I love how everyone just ignored Oshowatt(sp?)'s line. I thought the 1st was absolutely adorable, the 2nd was kinda cool and the 3rd was mental and I had no idea who pulled that one out of their arse.

I started with an Oshawott though I don't really like its design. I evolved him as quickly as I could because I love Dewott's design but I still boxed him away at about level 19 because my team was boring me. Samurott is meh.

Not just on this forum, I saw a surprising amount of people do away with their starters. More so than previous generations. People would generally keep the starter in their team but most initial playthrough teams I saw were totally void of their starting Pokemon.

I wonder if Game Freak/Nintendo will pick up on that? Probably not but it does seem very prevalent. Guess it just shows how horrible the starters are for this Gen.

I started off with an Oshawott, Saito and stuck through with him right till the end of the game. WeirdIknow. Given, the guy's nothing to shout about, but when you've got a team consisting of three glass ninjas, one special attacker and another ground-based specialist, you need all the backup you can get. Ol' Samurott's pretty much the go-to-guy if I need decent offensive and some stalling power. That and aesthetically when you've got things like this... ....Which I can't say no to. It's a dual-wielding mustachioed samurai lord of the sea and for all it's derp, I love it so <3

That picture you posted actually made me reconsider my views on Samurott. He would have looked a lot better standing up that's for sure. They also needed to emphasis his arm swords more in his sprite. I'm still of the opinion: Dewott > Samurott > Oshawott.
Oh lately i've bred a few Tepig and finally got some with decent stats (And little to no IVs and EV investment on speed), evolved it to Emboar and he is actually bit of a brute in a Trick Room team. Thinking of nicknaming that one Keroswine in honour of the initial name guesses when the design was first released.

I still have my Samurott in my Black team, actually, but the team as a whole is a bit wierd, admittedly. I've made some odd choices, and so my sweeper is an itemless Archeops with Acrobatics, and I've got the deadly yorkie as well as a Crustle wearing a Rocky Helmet (figure that one out...).
Samurott certainly doesn't have a special place on the team, he mostly serves as the team's primary water/ice fighter.
It probably helps that I replaced most of my Normal type attacks with Revenge for the nice base power and revengekill option- I think both my dog and my narwhotturai have it.
I initially disliked all the starters, went with Oshawott on a lark.
Kinda wishing I'd gone with Tepig, since I'm starting to like Emboar's design more, and really can't be arsed to care about the otter line.
Don't think I'll ever like Serperior, though..... sigh.
You know, I liked -all- the Gen4 starters, and most of the non-fire starters prior to that. Black/White had kind of a depressing start. Floating dreaming fetuses, derpy apes, SUPER-derpy fighting types, and lackluster visuals on the starters.....
At least it gets better as you progress, but srsly....

I wonder if ANYONE on the forum stuck with their starter(s)...? I must admit, for whatever reason I always feel bad sticking a starter in the PC Box but in this game I pretty much shoved the starter away, myself.
I pretty much loved Tepig instantly when I saw the teaser/leaked images aaaaaaages ago and I was set on picking that one when the game came out which I did. I kinda wish I chose either Snivy or Oshawott though. I mean, Tepig, Pignite and Emboar are good and all and their designs are pretty badass, but as soon as I got Darmanitan I really had no use for him.
Oshawott and it's evolutions really doesnt do it for me though, the final one is alright after I realised the things on its arms were like, swords, but it still didnt convince me to jump for it. I do want to start a new game and try out Snivy though, hopefully if I ship all my best pokes over to another cartridge and play through again with it, it wont just go and disappoint me. I'll probably end up using something like Lilligant instead.

Believe it or not on almost all of my games I still have my starter in my party. I have Samurott or however it is spelled on Black and it is great for both Physical and Special moves. I have Tepigs Final form on White which is OK but not as good as Samurott. On HG/SS I have a lv 86 Feraligator on HG and a lv 56 Meganium on SS. I do not know if I still have my starters on my team on Pearl but on Platinum I have a Torterra but I forget its level and on Diamond I have a lv 64 Empoleon who I use for both Physical and Special attacks. I do not know if my starters are still in my party in R?S?E but I do have a Shiny Swampert on Emerald which I plan on having an auction for here. In either case I have noticed most people dump their starter once they find stronger pokemon when Starters can be useful in Tournaments even if they are used correctly.

That's the sad, sad truth about choosing Tepig in this game. If you're looking to get something hard hitting, Darumaka/Darmanitan pretty much outshines the whole of the Tepig family with added brute strength and speed to boot. If I ever did do another play through of B/W I would definitely try and give a bit more spotlight for Tepig's family. It's just going to be hard not using one of my favourite Pokemon from GenV. By the time I had Darumaka, it was so much better than Pignite who was rather slow and cumbersome. From the time I made this thread to now, the starters have all generally grown on me though. Usage wise I doubt they'll be becoming firm favourites any time soon but I can see the little quirks to each and everyone of the starter's designs and at least positively identify them. Just a shame they need a lot of babysitting before they become alright. Emboar is still the stand out of the bunch. I've used him on some Trick Room teams and he's been a real nice change of pace.
