Hades grinned wickedly as she was given the go ahead for attack. Sucking in breath that became superheated to give strength to the flames growing in her belly, the helldog fixed her eyes hungrily upon the sheep.

With a loud whoosh of heated air, the Houndour released a blast of tiny embers that crackled as they met the cooler air outside before colliding with the Mareep's face and some of its wool.

"May!" it bleated, shaking its head furiously to reduce the stinging it felt from the attack. Instead of relying upon its stronger Thundershock, the electric type took a running start and charged across the battlefield to Tackle Hades mightily in the chest.

The helldog wheezed as she recovered from the blow and let loose another savage growl. Leaping back to stand by Joey's legs, Hades glanced up at her master again, all the while letting a growl rumble in her throat.

[The REAL Joey]

The ferocity of Hades' enthusiasm was pretty intimidating to say the least. Maybe it was the slightly demonic appearance or the fact that Hades was particularly savage in attacking, Joey wasn't all that sure. Nevertheless, he didn't want things to get too out of hand. "Nice work so far, Hades! Remember, we're trying to capture this Mareep, not sic it to the point of fainting." Hades yipped and growled at the Mareep further. While it was not going to fail it's trainer, Hades was beginning to develop bit of a grudge towards the Mareep for how much that Thundershock stung. "Hades! Spit up some more burning hot coals, use Ember!" His hellhound complied and it wasn't long before another roasting hot batch of embers were spat at the electric sheep Pokemon.

When Hades spat out her second round of embers, the Mareep's eyes widened in fear. It recoiled as the smell of burning wool overpowered every other scent in the air. Hades winced and wrinkled her nose against the noxious odour.

Her opponent took this sudden opportunity to launch its attack. With a cry, the Mareep's singed coat crackled with electricity again before it fired off another Thundershock at Hades.

A furious snarl rent the stark silent air after the attack had worn off, and it took every bit of restraint instilled in her to not throw herself at the insolent sheep looking on at her quite smugly.

Hades' hackles rose, along with the hair along her neck. Joey had better hustle with the capture or else he'd end up with a fried sheep, and a furious helldog, on his hands. The Houndour's mind was besieged with images of her sitting on the Mareep's body and eating it. Wistfully, Hades licked her chops and grinned evilly at the Mareep, who shuddered in response.

[The REAL Joey]

Sensing the ever malicious thoughts of his pup, Joey was hasty in his grabbing of the empty Pokeball. "Yeesh! Not gonna get on her bad side... It's like she's a demon possessed." The lock of the ball was once again extended, causing it to balloon up in size. Hades looked at him curiously as if to question what Joey was doing. After all, Hades was patiently awaiting its chance to slaughter the poor sheep. Joey shrugged to his pooch and consoled it. "Sorry girl, i'm in need of this one. Tell ya what, when we get out of Union Cave and find out where those Rockets are..." A devious grin flashed on Joe's face. "...You can go as crazy as you like." Considering Joey's offer, Hades decided it would be wise to follow the advice of its trainer. The prospect of a large number of targets to maul sounded quite enticing. A swift flick of the wrist, and the empty Pokeball flew towards the Mareep. It enveloped it in a red light and was soon inside. The smell of burnt wool was but a fleeting memory now.

Just as Hades was waiting for her chance to be sicced on her opponent, the Mareep was fearfully watching the exchange between trainer and mutt. Almost burnt to a crisp and wondering if it was about to be lamb chops, it barely noticed Joey hurl his Poke Ball towards it until it was bumped on the head.

Its head tilted, eyes fixated on the ball, and the Mareep opened its mouth to make a noise. The ball silenced it as it absorbed the sheep into its contents and fell to the ground, resuming the usual shaking and rattling.

There was less fight in this opponent, it seemed, and sooner than expected, the ball dinged its successful capture.

Hades whined, staring at the Poke Ball sadly. Despite Joey's assurance she'd get a chance to wreak havoc, that Mareep had been so much fun to harass.

[The REAL Joey]

Success! Joey had pretty much caught all the Pokemon he was after in this area. It wouldn't be long now before he'd take his first few steps into Union Cave. The thought of stumbling around in some dark dingy cave didn't exactly excite Joe all that much but it was a journey he was willing to take to go ever further South and reach his destination. Those Rockets had best prepare themselves. With Mareep now safely stowed away in his Pokeball he shoved it into his bag to avoid any further confrontation between the sheep and Hades. Hades looked at Joey adamantly and perched itself in front of Joey. He couldn't help but laugh at how fierce his little doggy was. He crouched down and began making a huge fuss. "Well done girl, that was a pretty efficient take down. Now we've got some more stock to sell." His Houndour, pleased with the admiration it was getting leant forward and licked Joe's face. He flinched bck slightly but couldn't quite avoid it. "Hahah ohhhh! So much for not getting licked."

He stood up and returned Hades to her ball, keeping her there until a real fight was on their hands. "Okay... Let's look at this list once more." He picked it out and noticed only two Pokemon were left on the list. Bellsprout and Kricketot. He eyed both of them with scrutiny before turning to his Poketch. There wasn't much time left and he could only afford to waste a little more time catching one. "Bellsprout it is... Let's see... They like to blend in with flowers and hide their bodies underground..." Joey thought back to when he was mooching around the Pokemon Centre. At the side of the building was a lovely patch of flowers. "I'll go check there. There's got to be one lurking around." With a turn of the heels, he sped off down the route towards the Centre. After a fairly quick sprint he made it to the flowerbed which was decorated with an assortment of flowers. He yanked up the biggest looking yellow flower but it turned out to be an actual one. "Oops... Sure hope no one's lookin'..." He resumed pulling up the flowers until, he stumbled across a rather weird feeling plant.

As his grip tightened to yank, the flower began to wriggle uncontrollably, and managed to get out of Joey's grasp. He stood back and watched as the Bellsprout revealed itself. It looked at Joe threateningly before flexing its little leaf arms at him. A small sweatdrop ran down Joey's forehead as he watched the Bellsprout attempt to threaten them. "Riiiiight..." His hand inched closer to a Pokeball before an interuption from Eggbert, who was still sitting in his bag. "Eggscuse me boss? Mind if I have a crack at this one? We wanna get stronger!" Joey let out a small smirk and decided to give Eggbert another go. "Okay, let's see if we can wrap this up quick!" He unzipped the bag and out sprung Eggbert into the fray. "Start off with a Barrage!" Eggbert gave an understanding nod before lining up five of the Exeggcutes in rank and file order. The ringleader of the group began firing off them by number. "5, 4, 3, 2 annnnnd 1! EGGS AWAY!" The five Exeggcutes all jumped up into the air, hoping to go splat on the Bellsprout down below.

The Bellsprout was, understandably, angry at being disturbed from where it was sleeping!

It wobbled in a vague attempt at being menacing before it heard strange commands coming from the man that had ripped it from its earthy home. What was 'Barrage'? It soon found out.

5 eggs lined up in front of it and started shouting, what on earth was going on?

The first egg hurled itself at the shocked and taken aback Bellsprout and seemed to explode on contact. Yet it hopped away contently? This confused the Bellsprout even more!

The second egg hurled itself at Bellsprout. Bellsprout had been confused by the first Egg's apparent content with its explosion when suddenly another egg landed inside its Bell-shaped head and explode once more.

The third egg made an attempt to attack Bellsprout but it was ready! The moment that the egg jumped, Bellsprout batted it away with one of its leafy arms.

Infuriated, Bellsprout shot tiny particles into the air around the Exeggcute. It was using Sleep Powder! The band of eggs' eyes began to droop lazily as, all at once, they fell asleep and loudly began to snore.

Bellsprout looked up at the man towering over it, intending to make rude gestures at him but took a proper glance and immediately stood upright. It knew not to pick a fight with him!

[The REAL Joey]

The relentless barrage being stopped by the Bellsprout's Sleep Powder cut Joey and Eggbert's plans to a sudden end. Things weren't looking as hopeful as they first did. "And here I was hoping for a quick and easy end to this capturing run. Oh well, could do with a bit more of a fight before facing the Rockets..." However, as he turned to Eggbert, he realised that the whole hive had succumbed to the effects of it. "Gah! Must be potent...!" He whipped off his bandanna and covered his face with it. He had already had felt the paralysing effects of Stun Spore. He wasn't quite ready to take a nice big inhale of these tiring pollens. With Eggbert asleep this left Joey in a tricky situation. "Hang in there Eggbert... If you wake up and here my command, let's give the Bellsprout a taste of it's own medicine! Use Hypnosis!" Joey held on to his signature bandanna against his mouth and looked on intently as the events unfolded before him.

The Bellsprout wriggled around and danced close to the dozing Eggbert. A vine extended out from under the leaf that rested on its side, coiling up reflexively, and was thrown at the Exeggcute without preamble.

The loud whack, and the stinging pain that followed, was enough to wake Eggbert from his sleep. He grunted and each egg opened their eyes at the same time.

"Oi, skinny! We're gonna do more than eggsplode on ya!" the egg vowed, each set of eyes taking on a yellow glow. Pulsing rays of sleep were shot out invisibly at the Bellsprout, who looked aghast that its attack had woken up its quarry.

As the rays reached it, the grass type wriggled again before its large mouth opened wide in some morbid parody of a yawn and it flopped over backwards. Out like a light.

Eggbert chuckled. "We gotcha eggsactly where we want ya," he rumbled, looking pleased. The tables had finally been turned.

[The REAL Joey]

Having foolishly raised that whip against Eggbert, Joey's intense stare transformed into a smirk. "Haha... You're gonna regret that." Just as he mentioned that, Eggbert was awakened from his slumber. Psychic link or not, the timing was eerie. The sudden reversal of the wild Bellsprout now being asleep was even more music to Joe's ears. "Ohohoho this just gets better and better." He turned to his Easterly themed Exeggcute and gave him a firm nod. "I'm thinkin' another Barrage is in order." Eggbert didn't even give a reply, by the time Joey had thought of which move to do next, they were already in formation with the centre egg barking out their numbers to go splat on the sleeping Bellsprout. "Alright you hard boiled sonsofguns, that weedy little punk is asleep...! 5...4...3...2...1! It yelled as the whole troupe flew up into the air and hurtled down towards the Grass type Pokemon. Joey almost had to look away. Whatever happened, it was going to be messy.

As Eggbert's group descended upon the Bellsprout, it seemed only two had the right accuracy to strike. Both eggs exploded upon contact, barely ruffling the sleeping Pokemon, but causing a gush of greenish goo to fly out of the bell-shaped mouth and splash up on the remaining eggs.

The Exeggcute groaned in disgust. "Speggtacular," he grumbled, commanding the sullied eggs to clean themselves in a clump of grass nearby. They hustled back in case the opponent woke up.

Nope. The Bellsprout remained soundly asleep, a little trickle of green liquid still leaking from its mouth.

[The REAL Joey]

The splat of Eggbert landing over the Bellsprout and also, missing the Bellsprout, was a pretty nasty sight that made even Joey's stomach turn. They regrouped and panted slightly having been beaten into shape by the hard thud of the ground. "Haha... You guys got... Pretty erm... Scrambled there, huh?" Chimed in Joey who was starting to get the hang of this pun business. The Eggbert's immediately turned on the spot, wide eyed and began laughing raucously. So much so, that any command Joey thought of or issued verbally seemed to be ignored by the joyous Egg Pokemon. A hand slowly fell down Joe's face as he slapped himself over how Eggbert wasn't listening to him. "Note to self: Do not and I repeat do NOT crack any egg puns when in tough battle situations. It'll come back to bite me for sure..." Unable to issue any more commands and considering the state of the Bellsprout, Joey decided that it was high time for capturing. "Okay... Get in here you weedy little sprout!" He lobbed the ball, zooming straight towards the Bellsprout who was instantaneously absorbed inside, leaving the Pokeball to thud as it hit the ground.

The loud and contagious laughter from Eggbert seemed to barely disturb the slumbering weed, who merely stirred a little in response. Of course, by the time it would fully awaken, it would be in the Poke Ball now landing on its scrawny body.

As the ball dropped to the ground, the Bellsprout finally opened its eyes. And promptly freaked out. The ball began shaking in a violent fashion almost reminiscent of the rabid Rattata.

Eggbert stopped in his chortling and watched the progress of the ball's tenant try to escape capture. But the fatigue from having slept through most of its battle seemed to press upon it, and after a spare few moments, submitted to its future.

[The REAL Joey]

With the Bellsprout finally caught in one of Joey's pokeballs, the weedy Pokemon wasn't so tough. The ball, now in Joey's palm, was observed carefully by Joe himself. He let out a small laugh thinking of the Bellsprout inside, flexing its leaves around as if it were some pro wrestler. "Heh, well that wraps up that. I've spent long enough as it is hightailing it around this damned route... Best follow on the trail of that Rocket in Union Cave." His hand placed the Pokeball away in his bag and he thought over the ordeal of hiking through such a long winding cave. "Least it isn't pitchblack I guess." The tales of entering caves from some of his friends began circulating through his head. "Zubats, Geodudes... Everywhere apparently. I'll be surprised if the walls and floor ain't crawling with 'em."

Eggbert began bouncing up and down excitedly to catch Joey's distant attention. "Oh? Got a new move eh? Hm... We'll pass up on learning it for now. Can't have you not having any attack moves." Eggbert span around on the spot and agreed. "Guess so boss. *yaaaawns* Well, that's all for now yolks... We're gonna go retreat back to our humble abode. We're not used to scrambling all this much! " With a flash, the ball on Joey's belt opened and returned Eggbert. With a long stretch, Joey looked out to the horizon's sunset and let out a somewhat content sigh. "Not bad for an afternoon's work. I best get a move on otherwise things are gonna get dark." He moved away from the stump he was resting on and slowly trudged off to the Pokemon Centre.

A few moments passed before the rugged looking Joey moved out of the doorway. He craned his neck with a few clicks and let out a weary sigh. "Cave exploration time!" He followed the small path from the Centre and moved in front of the cave's rather oblivious entrance. Joey had never ventured into that many caves before but he was expecting something more grandeur. "I wonder why they call it Union Cave... Ah well... Here goes!" He carried on and eventually became enveloped in the darkness. His eyes gradually became adjusted but not soon enough for him to stumble over something unexpectedly. He landed on his front and grumbled. "Goddammit..." He eventually stood up, brushing himself down in the process. "Wonder what else this place holds in store for me?"

No updates on Eggbert's moves either. I'm okay with the way he is. But argh, that 4 move limit is becoming bit of a pain. >>

Oh and I will be swapping the Lucky Egg at some point but i've yet to re-arrange my party for Union Cave.

Plenty, it seemed it held in store. Joey's stumble had echoed out into the deserted entrance of the cave, coming back at him from all angles. As the noise dissipated into silence, a new noise joined it, a sort of faint cry.

It warbled for a moment before it too faded off. Then came the sound of shuffling feet, curious to see this new intruder in the cave. The Pokemon the footsteps belonged to were timid, stopping occasionally, as if hesitant to really show itself.

A flash of yellow peeked out from behind a rock. When it heard nothing menacing, the small Pokemon made its debut. It was a short little thing, square in shape and purple. Two huge yellow ears hung over its face, and its eyes looked almost like a bunch of lines.

Its W shaped mouth was quivering slightly as it took in the sight of Joey. Timid as it was, it could easily deafen the noise of a jet plane's engines if it wanted to.


A wild Whismur (Level 13) appeared!
