Ah, i'm sorry to hear this. D: I was hit by a virus pretty bad a month or so back. Stupid Vista Home Security 2011. That was a song and dance to remove. Any idea on what the virus itself is doing?

The virus was an MS Removal thing that wouldn't even let me access messenger or anything on my computer. It said that everything was infected.

Hm, if I was there i'd more than likely have a go at poking around at some things in safe mode. Have you got someone who knows how to fix it maybe?

There's my uncle who is a genius with computers, but he lives in Wisconsin and I live with my mom in South Dakota but I am heading out there to see my grandma so if I bring the computer with me, he might fix it

IF YOU LET SOMEONE FIX IT, THEY'LL STEAL IDEAS FROM OTHER SITES AND BRING THEM OVER HERE. Do so with caution.
Anyway, good luck and I recommend avast!

I had that one two weeks ago it was a pain in the ass to remove, I had to boot up in safe mode and download some anti spyware, it took three or four tries to get it all sadly.. but I don't have a problem with it now. I had to use anti spyware as well normally I would just delete the problem files but even in safe mode with UAC disabled and running with full admin privileges I still wasn't allowed to delete it :/

I download Malwarebytes. It was annoying as I had to do this on a seperate computer and also rename the .exe file. It seemed like the virus had some checks in place to not allow certain filenames through. Ended up renaming it to like "fck_you.exe" The worse thing is some people actually fall for the whole fake security thing and pay the money they request. I know they say a fool and their money is easily parted but either way sucks on them.

I had malware bytes first, it got rid of the problem for a few days but it came back out for blood.
I don't usually feel bad for people who are scammed, it is USUALLY of there own ignorance... usually not always

True, true. I just have horrible visions of my mum getting it and sitting there with her illiterate computer ways and thinking HAVE SOME DOSH and then realising the problem isn't going away. Then again, maybe I ought to give my mother some more credit. My dad would certainly on the case anyway. As for the problem, I do remember MalwareBytes sorting it out. Granted I did a system restore to a point before the virus hit but either way, everything is hunky dory down. Just shocked at how widespread at the same time this appeared. Must have found an exploit.

my mom is terrible with computers, but she's learning..slowly.. when she first got her laptop she wanted an anti virus, I told her I would get one for free and I spent three hours arguing.. because she had it in her mind a paid anti virus is better then a (possibly) pirated one ..
she calls me random times in the night asking me why she can't get to her email. I'll ask her what the problem is and she just says 'I can't get to it' over and over.
As for the problem..yea my laptop recently came back from MSI because of a hard drive failure and they for some reason disabled system restore points so when I went to restore I had nothing to go back to

Knew someone who had this virus a while back, and it was a ***** to remove. This guide REALLY helps. It tells you file paths for what the MS Removal Tool installs, and so you can find the files and delete them by hand, or use the steps they say. Remember, when deleting a virus's files, EMPTY THE RECYCLE BIN. It also helps to have someone who is good with computers as well as a fully functioning computer. Also, make sure your computer is not hooked to the network. Do you have AVG on your computer? It's an anti-virus program that really helps in blocking these sorts of things from editing your computer's registry.
