Silas and Shinya had been at this for a while now and it was easy to believe and understand that they were getting weary. Ghost after ghost seemed to rise up and then fall before them, almost like a sick merry go round of attacks and defending. Even though the end was in sight, the ghosts still would not let up. Such was the case here as a Gastly faded into view, only to get blasted by the Dark Pulse that was formed in the maw of Mercenary. Without wasting a beat the second Gastly materialized from the gloom, only to be grabbed telekinetically by the Yanma. With a swell of psychic energy, the Gastly was literally picked up and yeeted through the forest, disappearing completely from sight. It was almost as if the ghosts had become an annoyance and a minor inconvenience, instead of an actual threat. Would the boss of the forest shrine be so easily discarded and taken down by the pair of strong trainers? One would have to wait and see, but based on their body of work so far, it didn't seem that hard to believe it would happen in such a way. Results here = Here

"Finally, this pointless quest is almost at an end," Silas muttered. He looked down at the pathetic, overgrown radish in the crook of his arm and huffed. He should have dropped this thing ages ago, but here he was, still hauling it and its shivering, sickly body around. But this close to the end, he wasn't about to just 'drop it and run'. Not when there was a potential encounter with a legend at the end of this.
Of course, all that talk of celebi and nature spirits could be nothing but a hoax. And they will defeat the great evil to no end. But he needed a little optimism to keep going.
"I think I see the path to the shrine up ahead. Mercenary, lead the way." He nodded to Shinya and soon he was forging ahead again. All of these ghosts they had battled had been nuisances. He didn't think this last one would be any different.

"Ahahahahahahahahahah! Is that the best you pathetic ghosts can do?! Is it?! You're weak! You're all just a bunch of weak, pathetic losers! Ahahahahahahahahah!" Immediately after the wandering spirit was sent flying right back to the afterlife by her Psychic attack, Yanma broke out into a fit of hysterical laughter, remaining atop Shinya's head as she taunted the spirit in between her giggles. And just like always, this laughter was a much-needed boost to Shinya's own sense of moral, causing him to chuckle a little bit himself. After their little fit of laughter came to an end, both trainer and Pokemon glanced over at Silas and Mercenary, listening to what the suit-wearing trainer had to say next. Shinya then watched as the two went on ahead, but before doing so himself, some prep work had to be done.
"So, how 'bout it, boss? Ya think we're ready to take on the big bad now? Can I do it? Please?" Yanma looked down at the Team Skull grunt with pleading eyes, very excited by the thought of getting to battle such a powerful opponent side by side with her beloved trainer. "Sorry, Yanma. You're strong, but I think we might actually need to pull out the big guns for this one." While Silas thought that this final battle would be another walk in the park, Shinya wasn't so sure, deciding to air on the side of caution for this one. "Oh fine. Go with him then. See if I care." Yanma's pleading expression changed into a pouty one, as she knew right away what Shinya meant by "big guns".
In response to Yanma's pouts, the green-haired trainer chuckled a bit more, calling her back to her Pokeball for yet another round of rest. "C'mon, Yanma. Don't be a brat. Ya know I love ya and all your antics more than any other Pokemon's." Shinya then put Yanma's Pokeball away and exchanged it for a different one. One that contained his currently most powerful Pokemon. At one point, Shinya had considered letting Yanma or Sizzlipede handle this last ghost, but something within him was telling him that this Pokemon was the right call. "But I know you'll destroy 'em. You'll destroy 'em real good." Shinya spoke to the Pokemon inside the Pokeball, then faced the path ahead of him, and followed Silas and Mercenary to their final destination. The Forest Shrine.

Leaving the shrine and the people praying behind, Adrian followed the sound of crying to find...well, a majestic grove. The trees were tall and more thinly placed apart. There were flowers blooming where light touched the ground, sprouting up through the leaf litter. Heimdal huffed and barked once, staring at a cluster of trees that were more densely packed together. Adrian dismounted and with his Arcanine and Gallade at his side, he slowly approached the trees.
He heard the crying grow louder.
"Tommy?" he asked quietly.
The sniffling quieted but turned into a whimper, "Don't hurt me."
Adrian peered up into the branches to see a young boy that matched the description of the missing child. Though he did look like he had a rough go of it. His blond hair was all dirty and tangled, like he had at some point pushed through some prickly shrubs. His clothes weren't in much better shape, with there being a tear on one sleeve and a patch of dried blood staining the skin of his upper arm. Both his knees were scraped and his eyes were all puffy from crying.
"Hey...I am Officer Adrian Hartt. I'm here to help you, bud," Adrian soothed, having a soft spot for youths, often reminded of the isolation he felt as a child and the desperation he had once suffered for lack of support. "You got pretty far, didn't you? But your parents are pretty worried about you."
"...I don't wanna go back," Tommy protested. "If...If I go back now...they'll think I'm a baby forever and...and...never let me go on a journey."
"Do you have a pokemon, kiddo?" Adrian asked.
"Yeah," Tommy rubbed his aching arm. "But it...it kinda scares me...Dad bought it for me so I wouldn't 'get ideas' or whatever...and wanna go outside in the grass to try to catch one. But I don't really like it...or want it. I only brought it with me so that I wouldn't be...um...alone. Professor Oak always says to never go into the tall grass alone!" Tommy sniffled.
"...I do have to take you home, bud," Adrian said softly, lifting his arms to help Tommy down, who complied reluctantly.
"I know. You're a cop. Gotta follow the stupid rules...like no pokemon adventuring under ten."
"Yeah. Cheer up, you can ride arcanine with me?" Tommy looked a little cheered up by that prospect. As Adrian helped Tommy onto Heimdal's back, he thought to ask, "Why exactly were you up those trees? Did something scare you?"
Tommy's eyes got real big as he peered back in the direction of the shrine with a shiver, "There is an evil spooky spirit that's hurting celebi in its own shrine. The lake whispered it to me like a warning and when I went to go see...I saw horrible red eyes and...and people fighting and it was awful! I don't wanna go back!"
"Are you sure you saw—" But before he could continue, Tommy glared at him.
"YES! I KNOW WHAT I SAW! Go that way. Go to the lake. I bet it will tell you the same thing about the evil spirits." He looked a little somber. "I...wasn't strong enough to help anyone though."
"Not even with your pokemon?"
"It's kinda weak and scary, like I said."
The discomfort made Adrian feel a pang of sympathy and pity, "Maybe I can help? There's lots of pokemon in this forest. I have healing items. Maybe I can help you two train on the way back to Goldenrod so you two can bond. How's that sound?"
"Stupid."
Well dang. Couldn't say he didn't try.
"Fair. Alright, let's go back to—"
"NO! The lake first," Tommy insisted. "I won't go back to the shrine or back home unless we go to the lake. That way you hear it whisper too."
Adrian was pretty sure it was just a fear induced auditory hallucination but there was no harm in side tracking a little. He took out his radio to report in and found that he couldn't get it to work. Weird. He clicked the button a few times and only received static. Adrian then took out his phone and...huh. No reception either. Looks like informing everyone he had found the child would have to wait a little while.
"Alright, let's go find this whispering lake." Adrian conceded. "The one that told you the shrine was haunted by an evil spirit." That said...he had felt a very ominous, unsettling sensation when he passed by it. Even if the kid had been imagining things, he understood why. That shrine was just creepy and left even him with the hair on his arms standing on end.
He nudged his arcanine forward. Towards the lake they would go, and then surely they would head to Goldenrod. —Word Count: 800 | OOC:(Adding an NPC and mini side quest for fluff) Coming from Forest ShrineGoing to Ethreal Lake

They were back in the Majestic Grove! The Forest Shrine was just up ahead. All they had to do was keep moving. Adrian was positioned low against Heimdal's back, searching around for signs of a spook that wanted revenge. Under one arm was the ill chikorita, and the other was holding onto Heimdal's harness.
Tommy, the young boy he found lost in the forest and was on a mission to get back to his home in Goldenrod, had his face buried in the arcanine's mane. Behind them, Zoro kept pace, barging forth like the literal bull he was, not even attempting to be quiet. There was a frantic sort of urgency in the air. Like they couldn't slow down or else.
Of course, then that 'or else' arose.
Suddenly, Heimdal skid to a stop and growled, flames blooming in his maw. He snarled at something ahead and looked ready to lunge. Behind them, Zoro was kicking up dirt, searching for a target.
But it was Tommy that saw movement first. And in a moment of bravado, he threw the ball.
"Byte! G-go! Protect us from the evil spirits with your psybeam!" he called out, startling Adrian.
"Kid, your porygon is—"
"You said it would be stronger now."
"I mean, yes, it will be a little stronger from the experience share but—"
The porygon burst from the ball, all sharp edges and eerie uncanniness. No mouth. Just angles and eyes and unnatural, jarring movements. Tommy shivered. Yeah, Byte still freaked him out. Bad. The porygon whirled its strange 'legs' as it lurched forward, blizting out colorful beams of psychic energy in different directions. Emotionless. Just following orders.
Adrian was on standby, grimacing a bit, ready to have Zoro take over if this went badly.

Another Gastly appeared, booing and making a hauntingly sound it only know to make. Thankfully, Tommy saw the apparition first, and then proceeded to send out his trusty Porygon. The strange looking Pokemon met with the strange looking ghostly Pokemon. With a menacing glint on the sharp eyes, the Gastly hovered toward the Porygon and opened its mouth, extending its tongue for a simple, chilling lick. Well, the Porygon did not computed what was happening, as it was completely unfazed by the tongue. Then, Byte blasted a close-ranged Psybeam at the opponent, which knocked the duo type a little away. The floating ball of gas was confused, since it normally would send a shiver down another Pokemon. The ghost floated forward and gave the Porygon yet another Lick, as it tried to figure out what was going on! Sadly for the ghost, the Porygon had the upper hand here, and sent it another Psybeam. The ghost groaned in pain and echoed its displeasure, as it faded into nothing. Now, the forest was slightly less cursed.

Two licks and two burst of psybeam later and the porygon was victorious! Adrian let out a sigh of relief and ruffle the kid's hair, "That. Was very stupid of you. Brave, but stupid." He thumped Tommy on the back and the kid smiled up at him nervously.
"Byte defeated the spirit!"
"It did. Does it seem less creepy now?"
Tommy looked over at the cyber duck and grimaced as it floated closer, "No. Still creepy."
"Even after naming it? And battling together for the first time?"
"Yeah." Tommy sighed. "It...isn't a bad pokemon. I just don't think it's a good match for me, y'know?"
"I get that. What kind of pokemon would you like?"
"Something like arcanine or gallade!"
"They are pretty cool."
"Your tauros is cool too. The litwick is...creepy."
"Fair enough. So you like tough pokemon, eh?"
"They're also really, really...Um...Expressive? Ghosts and porygon aren't...that."
Adrian pondered that, "Hm. So pokemon like solrock or bronzor are also creepy too?"
"Yeah!"
The kid was thumped on the back again, "Return Byte to its ball and lets keep moving." Tommy complied and even hooked the exp share back on. See. Look at him behave! He behaved so well!

"Oh, this part of the forest is usually so beautiful," Lola lamented. "Look at all these trees. I do hope the storm doesn't damage them too badly. These winds are terrible."
Freya had to agree.
"Hopefully this dust storm will pass soon and we can appreciate all the beautiful greenery."
Lola smiled.
There wasn't much to discuss as they moved towards the next landmark on Lola's list. The lake.

Finally, he was getting close to his destination. With all the same in his mouth, and hair and in his clothes...he was becoming quite irritable. Reaching his destination would be sure to improve his poor mood.
Absently he double checked his instructions and the warm notice. Yep. What he was sent to find was in theory just up ahead.
"I better get paid well for this," he grumbled. He wanted hazard pay. Sending him out into this mess, looking for the stupid thing with a deadline in THIS WEATHER. Bah. He would curse the names of every higher up he knew. Just get through this Silas, the grunt work wouldn't last forever.

"Whitney is a strong trainer," Lola mused, their conversation continuing as they journeyed. "How do you think a marill would defeat her?"
"Not really a marill, but an azumarill, and I suppose it would require some luck an over preparation compared to bringing in say...a fighting type. But, if you were high enough level with huge power, okay...and had a stirus berry to restore some health...you would use belly drum. You should have enough health to survive a stomp or something from miltank, but what you have to worry about then is flinch. Because while you can survive two hits...I think...from Miltank, even after belly drum, you ideally don't want to take a stomp flinch...or you could get stuck in a healing loop. THAT SAID, one belly drum and then a water fall and wooosh, miltank is washed away." Freya paused then laughed at herself. "Sorry, sorry. That probably was a lot huh? Most people don't care about that sort of thing all that much."
"On the contrary, I find it very interesting to listen to people talk about their passions," Lola assured her. "My husband is a very eccentric man, my dear. I have listened to him ramble for hours about head butting trees. I can listen to you talk about your adventures and the finer details of competitive pokemon battling." She waved away Freya's concerns. "You seem like you have a plan. What about Morty?"
"Have you seen how I have handled these ghosts? I got Morty covered, no problem," Freya laughed. "Assuming Adrian will keep letting me use Teddiursa after she evolves, I can probably handle that ghost specialist no problem."
"What about the Kimono Girls?"
"The who?"
Lola smiled, "Aha, something you haven't planned for I see. They are very skilled trainers who use the evolutions of eevee to battle and it is a mystery which one will be sent out to face you in their back-to-back challenge."
"Hm...I suppose normal types would be ideal in a battle agains them...if only to avoid getting walked all over in a type mismatch!" She frowned a bit. "That may be difficult. I haven't really diversified my team THAT well to walk into a blind challenge like that."
"Something to consider then?"
"I guess so. Huh."
As she considered that query, Teddi lunged at something lurking in the shadows.

Teddiursa may have picked up on the spirit lying in wait but this one had a bit of a trick up it's sleeve. Combined with it's speed even the great intuition Teddiursa showed was not enough to get the jump on the spirit as it appeared in front of her with a stern look on it's face. It's eyes suddenly started to glow blood red as it looked right at Teddiursa trying to induce a trance on the young cub and within seconds Teddiursa started to shut her eyes and fall asleep. Luckily for her the Lum Berry she was holding would allow her to snap out of it as she quickly placed the berry in her mouth to counter the trance before fully falling under it's effects. Once she was fully alert once again Teddiursa opened her mouth and made a mad dash for Gastly before the specter could try it's trick a second time. The specter could hardly believe how quickly the young cub not only snapped out of the trance but her speed at striking back as well as her fangs sunk down into the spherical body before her. Within seconds Gastly let out a loud cry before turning into a purple mist and making a beeline dash for another part of the forest. Just as the battle ended Teddiursa noticed a small green sphere on a bush near her and she grabbed it quickly realizing it was a Lum Berry that could replace the one she had eaten. Not only had she gotten stronger she had also replaced her Lum Berry for free making this victory all the more sweeter. CHOMP CHOMP! Another ghost down. Though what was especially interesting about the exchange was that when Teddiursa was forced to eat her Lum Berry to keep from falling asleep, she seemed to instantly find a new one when the fight was over. That was a nifty little ability! Oh she would have to keep note of that for the future. Though with how fast her Teddi was growing, she probably wouldn't be an adorable little Teddiursa for much longer. She'd outgrow that status and be an Ursaring in no time.
Then she'd have to give her back and...
Freya shook her head. Adrian was understanding. Even if this wasn't forever, surely he wouldn't force them apart until they were ready to say goodbye. After all, he let Star travel with her despite the clefable having no association with her before she became his guest. But she also couldn't steal from him just because she was fond of one of his pokemon.
So complicated. Adrian was constantly sending her messages and asking her questions. She liked working with him. And she knew more more pokemon would come her way for training as time passed so she couldn't get super fixated on just the one. But the heart wanted what it wanted, and it ached at the thought of one day letting go. For now, she'd just appreciate what she had and hang on tight, showering the cutie in affection.
"You're doing a great job there, Teddi. We're almost of here. I'm pretty sure the Shrine is just up ahead so we can help this Chikorita and take care of whatever it is causing issues. I'd say thank goodness that it would stop the ghosts, but you seem to be enjoying battling those...heh. Maybe one day we'll find a place where you can battle lots of them again. Like Morty's gym!"
Lola chuckled as they got all settled on Arcanine's back again. Freya tucked the teddiursa in her lap and peered back at the chikorita. The poor little thing was tired and feverish still, but hanging on. They needed to hurry and not loiter in one place, but surely they'd be able to rescue the poor dear before it was too late!
Steadying herself with a breath, Freya urged Arcanine forward and they all hurried towards the Shrine. Each of them was on edge, wary and searching for some answers out here. — Word Count; 400 | OOC:Heading to forest shrine! (Forest's Blessing Quest) (Adding an NPC to my journey for flavor)

ZAIDEN KABILA Aspiring Champion Bike Mode: On | Time: Day
Zaiden’s feet ached, their constant pounding echoing like drums of war in his ears. He raced through the thick overgrowth of the forest in a heated moment. There remained inside of his chest a need to escape the strange feelings that arose when he approached the large shrine. When he finally stopped, feet burning from the efforts and lungs nearly collapsing from their need for air, those same rich brown eyes searched behind him in with a quiet fear that they were being followed by the mysterious entity. They seemed to remain entirely alone through this wide and expansive forest, minus the telltale signs of life in the forms of footsteps that etched their way in different directions across the ground.
Zaiden managed to arrive at a strange place within the forest where the path verged in two different directions around a large grove of trees. He tried to bypass it entirely on the right but ran into a steep ledge that would send him to the next plane of existence. After slowly backing away with an audible gulp and a shiver that crawled down his spine, Zaiden tried to dodge around the grove around the left side. This caused him to run into a literal wall of trees that blocked the pathway as well. Though he now had a partner that would easily chop the trees away with ease, the work involved would take them eons just to get anywhere at all.
This meant that the grove remained their only pathway forward. Sighing and giving up, Zaiden would push his way into the thicket of towering pines and sprawling oaks wrapped around in a strange, almost circular pattern. Small bugs crawled through the heavily littered brown and dying leaves on the forest floor. Some of their cocoons clung to the low branches of younger trees, soft white hues and hidden greens blushing against the greyish-brown bark. Strange grassy Pokemon with black bodies wrapped in bright blue vines sat in the trees and watched Zaiden anxiously as he continued through the terrain. They were on a very set path forward, and a quiet need to put as much distance between themselves and the shrine as possible.

Yeah, yeah, pretty trees. He was done. He wanted out. He didn't care about the scenery any more. If he had an escape rope right about now, he'd use it to get back to Goldenrod. But no. He was stuck walking around on foot. He hated it. He hated everything. Since he had no appreciation for the scenery, he just kept walking his unhappy butt through the grove, cursing the name of his admin. They better appreciate his hard work getting that stupid morpeko in the rain and now this stufful in the depths of eerie. Totally doesn't feel worth it.

ZAIDEN KABILA Aspiring Champion : On | Time: Day
Zaiden walked quietly out of the glade and into a tight bundle of lookalike trees sprung up around him with such wide branches that only leaf litter covered the space between them. Their long branches choked out the once glorious light of the sun that pooled down just moments before in the glade, causing the ground to darken over with long shadows that seemingly never ended. Only tiny wildflowers fought against the current and pushed through the crumpled remains of leaves the larger trees once shed.
His team followed closely behind, with Goshikka still carrying on with her stories of strange and bizarre creatures made up in her own mind. Moyashi chased eagerly after the small spider whose body was covered in a thick bundle of sticky thread. Gena spat some of her web at her companion, managing to snag Moyashi’s rooted ‘feet’ and long vines, slowing down the plant’s advances. Her pleas for her companion to cease and desist fell on deaf ears, however, as Moyashi eagerly kept up her pursuits.
Zaiden watched them carefully like watching a cat toying with a mouse. Sometimes he intervened, by stepping in Moyashi’s path with a shake of his head as her vines wrapped around his legs and struggled in vain to lift him up into the air. A snap of his fingers and wave of his hand was enough to get her to release her grip, allowing them to continue their trek through the wilderness that seemed to stretch for eons all about them.
He paused only briefly as he noticed the telltale sign of purple fur against bright green grasses. Was there a cat hiding within the weeds around the area somewhere? Zaiden’s feet pounded against the low-lying wildflowers and crunched the discarded leaves as he raced after phantoms within Ilex’s Forest. The moment came and went as though it was nothing short of a dream, however, causing Zaiden’s feet to come to a screeching halt, hands clasped on his knees as he doubled over for air.
Whatever lurked within the shadows kept to their own mystery, unwilling and not wanting to be exposed. He composed himself in due time, dusting off his knees and straightening the sleeves on his shirt with a frustrated sigh. Small blue onions popped up, their heads looking in different directions, and hissed with long vines waving menacingly in the air. Zaiden backed up, turning around swiftly on his nimble feet, and raced off in another direction instead.
What was this jungle he’d lost himself within? The heart of Ilex ebbed and flowed with wild creatures that seemed to spur in and out of existence around him. Though as she moved or spoke, so to would they be spooked. Like apparitions whose forms could only be seen with enough belief, they vanished at the slightest hint of skepticism in a need for self-preservation. Zaiden shrugged, turning back to his team with a quick nod of his head. They were wasting daylight – though he couldn’t see the sun itself, he could just feel it in his soul. They needed to hurry along their trek.
Moyashi dropped Gena in an instance as she scurried after her trainer, roots ensnaring their way in and out of the ground to quickly pull her forward. Gena scuttled up to Zaiden in a hurry and jumped on his back, before crawling all the way up onto his shoulder. He was a safe refuge from the monstrous ‘partner’ the small arachnid who was forced to work alongside and whose hungry expression seemed to promise only bad things for herself. She nestled close to Zaiden’s head with a soft sigh and warm smile, happy to be out of harm’s reach for the moment.
