Pokémon found in Sombre Valley Note: Pokémon levels range from 8 to 15. Its bark is etched with arcane markings; possibly magic curses or the ramblings of a madman. The hollow trunk appeared to serve as a small shelter for someone or something not too long ago. Shards of glass from smashed glass jars and the acrid smell of dried herbs and fungi suggest that at one point, the hollow had been inhabited. But whoever or whatever lived there, they appeared to have abandoned it in a hurry. A small ash-covered pit in the centre appears to be where countless fires burned on winter nights. In the centre of this fire pit, a stick had been driven into the ground. A tag can be seen nailed to the very top of this stick and it too carries strange markings and symbols. Do you dare remove the tag from its resting place?

"Spirit, we can slow down!" Sandy called as they finally rode into Sombre Valley. It was a quiet place, but not quite as smelly as the area that they had just left behind. However, it also looked like a place right out of some horror movie. Sandy shivered as she slid off of Spirits back. Deciding that what she was looking for was around here somewhere, it'd be okay for her to walk. Spirit followed at her side as she wandered through the cold forest. The feel of the Valley made him a but uncomfortable, if one would believe that.
"We've made it this far but...I wonder where it could..." she paused as they made it into the clearing. She could see the sky poking through in spots where the leaves didn't cover, something she couldn't see in the thick of the forest, and it had an even eerier feel to it. In the middle of the whole clearing, she could just make out something looming in the darkness.
"Over there." she motioned. Spirit walked ahead of her, his light guiding her so she wouldn't trip over anything. When they got to the center, they stood in front of a grand tree trunk. Sandy squinted a bit as she tried to read what appeared to be on the trunk. it was something she couldn't quite figure out though, none of the markings made sense. Spirit stamped his foot and she turned her attention to him. Just as she did, he disappeared.
"Spirit!" she followed the light of his flames into an opening in the tree, one she had not spotted at first. He was standing inside, examining the inner area. Looking by his feet, she spotted a lot of shattered glass, and the whole place smelled of...some kind of medicine.
"What is this place?" She wondered aloud, stopping by an ashen pit. Someone had to live...or, had to have lived here.
"Uh? Spirit, look at this!" Spirit walked a little closer, observing the stick driven into the fire pit. At the top, was some strange looking tag.
"Think we should take it? I mean...something's telling me this is what we're looking for. She said 'you must travel to the melancholy valley and seek out the cleansing art.' if this place isn't melancholy I don't know what is." She mentioned. Spirit shrugged. If she was going to take it, she should take it already. So, Sandy swiped the tag off of the stick, holding it in her hand to examine. However, something was telling Spirit that they should get out and fast.

It was quite unusual. In the middle of this labyrinth like forest was a unnatural ash covered pit that looked as if it had burnt endlessly many moons ago. However, what was even stranger yet was the stick warningly poking out of the pile. Now and again, a fettered breeze would blow through this melancholy valley and agitate the strange paper like note affixed to the top of the stick. The way it rattled back and forth was almost as if some unseen entity was desperately clawing away at it with the tips of its fingers in a bid to remove it. Why this was so was completely unbeknownst to anyone who would pass by through this area. Should they have an idea of what the tatty bit of paper was then perhaps they might have had more caution in approaching the pit. Sandy on the other hand had been indebted with a task most important. Having been directed to Sombre Valley of all places to acquire the cleansing art, it was clearly her way forward in unravelling the bloodied history of Ilex. Unfortunately, the clue she had been given had failed to make aware of the danger that the cleanse tag was keeping at bay. As Sandy acquired it and examined the tag, the repercussions of her action were soon to make themselves known. As if the ground itself began quaking with hell beneath trying to break through, the sky too reacted vehemently at the tag being removed. As the trees swayed back and forth to reveal fragments of the sky, it appeared a dark, foreboding cloud had claimed dominance over the peaceful sky blue. A tremendous rumble from the heavens gave way to the indigence of what Sandy had done. With the tag removed she had allowed the most vile of demonic entities bar the malevolent force behind the illness of the Chikorita to pass through into the world of the living. In other words, Sandy was in deep trouble. As the ground convulsed one final time, everything seemed to settle back into place. If only that were true. A huge explosion from the ashen pit later and something wicked sprung out from beneath the ground, leaving a whimsical trail of ash behind it as it flew higher and higher into the air as a means of ensuring it really had broken past its prison seal. Cackling with malice, the floating spirit like figure looked back down at the unfortunate soul who had given it free way to return. Staring down at her with bloodshot and insidious eyes, the spirit opened up its mouth as if trying to sate a long suffering hunger that it had endured while sealed away. Right now, Sandy looked like the nicest breakfast it had seen in a while. Encounter

Sighing, thankful that the battle was over, Sandy was happy that Spirit had managed to take care of things quickly. There was no telling what the Pokemon would have done if it had gotten much closer to her. She looked down at the tag in her hands, wondering what kind of power it actually held. Leading Spirit outside, she looked to the Pokemon that was once again in her arms. Placing a hand on its forehead, she frowned deeply.
"This isn't good, it's got a really bad fever Spirit..." she mentioned. Spirit looked over her shoulder, watching the shallow, pained breathes that the Chikorita seemed to be taking. She was right, if they didn't hurry it was going to die soon.
"Er...which is the fastest way back?" Sandy questioned to herself, not wanting to go back in the direction of the Putrid Swamp on accident. An idea suddenly making itself known, she pulled out a Pokeball.
"I should have thought of this earlier! Hiro, come out here a minute!" Tossing it up into the air, she released her little mole Pokemon, who seemed sleepy for a moment before springing to life.
<<Sandy? Whatcha' need this late?>> Hirioki questioned, looking around at the strange forest setting.
"Hiroki, I need you to find a safe path for us to go through. Burrow around underground until you find a clear one and come straight back, you hear me?" Hiroki nodded, but his stomach suddenly growled.
<<Heh...well... can I have something to eat first?>> Sandy chuckled and shifted through her bag until she found a piece of candy wrapped in blue foil.
"All I have is this thing my Mom gave me Hiro. Think you can live on that?" She questioned, unwrapping it and holding it out to him. Hiroki sniffed at it before chewing on it, eventually finishing the whole thing.
<<Wait...wasn't that a rare candy?>> Spirit questioned, looking down at Hiroki. Hiroki let out a slight burp and blinked.
<<I dunno. But now I feel kind of funny.>> A bright light overtook him suddenly, and Sandy caught it out of the corner of her eye, turning in time to see Hiroki start to change form. By the time the light had cleared...
"H-Hiroki! You-" she seemed to realize now what it was exactly that she had given him. "You're evolved!" Was all she could manage, a momentary happiness taking her before she had to turn her attention back to the sick Pokemon.
<<Haha, aw yeah! Evolution rocks!>> Hiroki cried out in a somewhat harmonized voice. Spirit sighed.
<<Great...now he's got surround sound.>> Quickly, Sandy ushered Hiroki to go find a good path to take, and it wasn't long before he came back.
<<There's a hill that leads down to these really creepy woods! But, it seems safe there.>> Hiroki reported. Spirit decided that's where they needed to go and got Sandy onto his back again, rushing after Hiroki as he led them down the hill.

Coming from the Putrid SwampAs Marchbaby followed the dirt path he came to a rather sombre valley deep in the Ilex Forest. As he reached the valley he did not feel any evil presence unlike the other areas as if the area was protected by a magical spell of some kind. As he walked along for the next clue in his journey he came to a large hallowed out tree that looked like it was someone's home. In the center there was a stick with a tag nailed to the top with writing Marchbaby was not familiar with but he got the feeling that it was what was protecting the area he was in. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a Cleanse Tag nailed to the stick which putting two and two together Marchbaby was sure this was the item he needed to save both Chikorita and the forest guardian. As he approached the stick however he could not help but fell an evil presence pulsating around the stick as if the evil spirits were trying to get rid of the tag so they could take over this area as well. Marchbaby was in a dilemma at this point as he knew he needed the tag to be able to complete his quest but at the same time if he took it the evil spirits would be able to take over this area as well. He knew the spirits had been trying to stop him from reaching this point and that if he grabbed it they would get even more desperate but as Marchbaby was running out of time he knew he had to make a decision and fast. Not wanting to fail in his quest Marchbaby placed his hand on the stick. He carefully removed the nail from the stick as he grabbed the tag that was nailed to it. As he examined the tag the evil energy seemed to reach a boiling point and he realized that another evil spirit or spirits must be wanted to battle him now that he had a weapon that could be used to stop all of their evil plans and save the Pokemon that were in trouble. " Are you spirits afraid now that I have this Clease Tag that I can use to help banish you all to hell. With the combination of this Cleanse Tag and Kamikaze I will massacre anything that opposes us. He said hoping his words would draw whatever spirits may be in the area out so he could banish them and get on with his quest. Staying to battle the Misdreavus that attacks as part of the Forest Blessing quest.

Right in thinking the evil feeling that had seeped into the rest of the inner forest sanctum March had been exploring was non-existent in this area, it would be thanks to a special cleansing tag that had been blessed and pinned to the hollowed tree in order to stave off a far more malevolent spirit than what Marchbaby and Kamikaze had seen thus far. With the intrepid Pokemon trainer examining this, a faint, fettered breeze would slowly blow up, as if warning him not to proceed any further in removing the seal which was keeping a vile entity at bay. Hesitation settling in with Marchbaby as he realised there would be grievous consequences in removing this protective seal, it would be a case of plunging yet another section of the forest to the evil curse or saving the life of an innocent Pokemon. Clearly deciding the life of the Pokemon to be more valuable, the cleanse tag was taken, removed from the stick pinning it to the hollowed out tree. No sooner than he had done, the fettered breeze from earlier picked up, almost corrupted with the surging of evil spirits being carried on it, distorting it into a disgusting blackened gale. As this black wind began congregating around the hollowed tree itself, the build up appeared to be powering the wicked soul which had been banished in the tree. With the ground rumbling and what seemed to be a catastrophic bolt of lightning crackling high above in the sky, it became very apparent what Marchbaby had done was not going to be without a price to pay. Convulsing one final time, everything seemed to settle back into place. If only that were true. Moments later all hell broke loose. A huge explosion from the ashen pit surrounding the hollowed out tree sounded off and something wicked sprung out from beneath the ground, leaving a whimsical trail of ash behind it as it flew higher and higher into the air as a means of ensuring it really had broken past its prison seal. Cackling with malice, the floating spirit like figure looked back down at the unfortunate soul who had given it free way to return. Staring down at him with bloodshot and insidious eyes, the spirit opened up its mouth as if trying to sate a long suffering hunger that it had endured while sealed away. Whoever had removed the seal was either brave, stupid or plain desperate. No matter what they were, they would surely satisfy as a tasty snack for the entity to devour. About to try and rip Marchbaby's soul straight from his body, there was a sudden exclamation from behind them in the form of a loud, terrified squeak. Hiding behind one of the many trees encircling the closing, it appeared a special creature had gone through hell and high water to try and reach March. Having been selected for his incomparably good deeds and having risked his life in this current quest to save the afflicted Chikorita, it seemed the male's kindness had bought upon him a gift from the Easter Lopunny itself. Dashing over hurriedly, the Pokemon plucked a navy egg from its basket, pushing it into his hands. before The Easter Lopunny has arrived! She hands Marchbaby a navy egg! With the evil Misdreavus vanquished Marchbaby began to feel rather superior to the spirits as Misdreavus had been the best they had thrown at him so far it was still no match for Kamikaze and himself. Despite the great theatrics Misdreavus had displayed neither Kamikaze or himself even broke a sweat. The good news about winning the battle so quickly was that this area of the forest had avoided the fate that had befallen other areas of the forest. The bad news however was that Chikorita and the forest guardian were still in trouble and there was quite a trek ahead before they would be at the forest shrine. Despite the great distance to the forest shrine Kamikaze and Marchbaby were pretty optimistic about whatever may lie ahead. Most of the evil spirits had been dealt with on their way to obtaining the Cleanse Tag even though the pair had a feeling there may still be a few stragglers. Kamikaze welcomed any of the spirits who may still be lingering to battle her as she wanted to gain as many levels as she could before reaching Goldenrod City as the next gym leader would likely prove to be a tough challenge. For the time being however she was quite proud of the beatings she had delivered onto the spirits for what they had done. As things seemed to be calm in the valley now Kamikaze begrudgingly knew that she would have to take a long walk to vanquish the remaining evil spirits. Sure she loved to be out and about but she was hoping the spirits would have been willing to come to Marchbaby and herself instead of the pair being forced to play hide and go seek trying to find them. Seeing no other option Marchbaby looked over at Kamikaze as they began to think of which way they should go next. The path heading to the left side of the forest looked rather calm while the path leading back to the swamp did not look very keen as if the spirits were trying to regroup in that area. Marchbaby and Kamikaze were still sticky from walking through the swamp but they did not want to waste any more time looking for another path back to the forest shrine. The pair sighed as they accepted that the swamp was their only decent choice but there hoped they could at least avoid a battle there this time around as it stunk pretty badly there. -coming from putrid swamp-Following his Pokemon's helpful communication, Alex arrived at a place that was finally different, and well, felt like a valley. After walking for a while, he found a hollow tree with strange markings on it. Could this be the area that the lake spirit thing was talking about? Not sure what was going on, he set the Chikorita down by the tree trunk but nothing happened. Then, just as he was approaching the Chikorita to picked up the sickly Pokemon again, his foot steps revealed an ashen pit in the middle of this strange location. Even though it was dark, he could felt the texture was different underneath his feet. Then, after picking up Chikorita and turning around, his knee hit a stick, which wobbled it and making a sound. It turned out, the stick was holding onto a strange tag, and perhaps this was the tool to save the Chikorita. Though since he was in a new area, he was surprised that he haven't met a ghost yet, or was he wrong about this? -la wait ghost-

Sombre Valley was not the place you would want to set up camp for the night. Even within the presence of potential spirits, the area was just plain spooky. As if a fire had torn the whole area ablaze, all that was left were black trees, each and every one with barely any branches, let alone foliage sprouting. It was as if the entire area was dead. As his footsteps took him deeper in, Alex found himself being drawn to a hollow tree which had numerous carvings that looked similar to arcane signs or curses. There was likely an old folk tale behind the etchings but it still felt creepy seeing it up close. Alongside the ash pit, which was likely a spot for numerous fires, the final thing to truly catch the attention of Alex was a strange bit of paper which had been nailed to a stick.
Thinking back to what the spirit of the lake had told him, at that moment, the mysterious tag he had found was the only real clue. If he took this with him back to the Forest Shrine, would he be able to lift this curse once and for all? There was only one way to find out. With Chikorita held in his arm, Alex used his other hand to pull the Cleanse Tag off of the stick. Only whilst this was the key to helping the sick Chikorita, it had also unleashed something which had been sealed away for one reason or another. A quiet thump echoed from close by and then another followed swiftly after, the thumps were close by and they began raising in volume each and every time, the speed becoming faster and faster. If he had already noticed, the ash pit he had recently walked across was also moving in time with the sounds, ash clouds rising and falling with every beat.
All of a sudden, when the thumping had reached it's climax, a banshee like shriek bounced between the trees and amidst the ash clouds, yet another spirit emerged. Looking akin to that of a floating female head, the creature known as Misdreavus wasted no time in heading straight for Alex, ready to feast on the sick soul of Chikorita.

Even though the Misdreavus was defeated, he could still feel something unsettling and uncomfortable, even though he had fought a couple of ghost type Pokemon already. Was there supposed to be another step that he had forgotten? He can't remember but he figured that continue moving wouldn't be a bad idea. Tyler had finally reached his goal. The Sombre Valley was home to his first objective and all he had to do now was find the item he was after. Both Mania and him could feel something was not right about the area but unlike the other areas this place felt a bit different. There was no fog keeping them at bay though an overwhelming sense of evil was still upon them. They had no clue what would happen here but they were not going to stick around long at all. Once they had the Cleanse Tag in hand they would book it to the shrine and end the curse once and for all. Mania even caught wind of something as she walked towards a hallowed out tree.
" I smell it, someone was here long ago. Hang on I am also getting the faint scent of your brother as well. He must have gone through this area long ago as his scent is almost as old as the other scents I am picking up. Still I wonder what he was doing here?" As they looked around for clues a small tag started to flutter in the middle of a pile of what seemed to be junk in the center of the tree. The sensation of pure evil surrounded the tag and Tyler had no doubts that this was the Cleanse Tag. He was no genius when it came to curses but he even understood that removing the tag could release the evil surrounding it. He had come so far however that there was no other choice.
He looked over at Mania who was more than ready for whatever would come after them for removing the tag. He still wanted to have her clearly understand how deep the rabbit hole could go once he removed it. " Though it is troubling that my brother was here I am more concerned with the present. I do not know what shall oppose us once I remove this Cleanse Tag so be ready to face an army of the damned. The energy here feels a bit stronger then that of the spirits we fought previously." With the danger laid out Tyler ripped the tag from the pile and a few seconds later a thicker version of the fog there were used to appeared.
" There is no denying this fog, we have awoken another spirit. We have another fight on our hands Mania so give it hell."
OOC: Tyler takes the Cleanse Tag and awaits the spirit encounter.

The "Sombre Valley" most certainly lived up to its name. This dark and dank area of the forest gave off quite a solemn, almost scary vibe. The Pokémon, if there were any around here, were unusually quiet, with only the occasional chirp from what sounded like a Kricketot in the distance. Not even the new frost on the ground could lighten the area up, though it did add a bit of noise to Tyler's surroundings as it crunched and cracked underfoot. The entire area felt spooky enough, but there was definitely something watching Tyler as he travelled through the Valley. As Tyler got to what was presumably the centre of Sombre Valley, he came across a small clearing. Most peculiarly, this clearing had a small pit in its centre which was absolutely smothered in a fine, greyish dust of some kind. A closer look would reveal this powder to be some kind of ash. Apparently, someone had taken to living in this forboding part of the woods in the past. One could only wonder where said person had left to, though, as the whole site seemed to have been abandoned for years upon years. As if to reinforce the idea that this was a dwelling once upon a time, Tyler might have noticed a tree just beside the long-dead campfire. Even in this dark setting, he'd be able to tell that it had been hollowed out as a makeshift shelter. What's more, the bark itself was covered in the strangest of scratches and markings. They appeared to have some kind of meaning, though divining that would be quite the challenge to anyone. The final clue was what looked like smashed glass littered across the ground beneath the trees. Yes. This was certainly a home for someone in years past. Someone who spoke the most alien of languages, perhaps, but someone nonetheless. Though the most important part, and the part Tyler was drawn to, was a slip of paper fluttering in the small breeze. Stuck on a stick in the centre of the ash pit, this tag was certainly a little eyecatching to say the least. Even more notable, though, was the incredible aura that was emanating from it. Whatever this thing was, it positively exuded ghostly energy to the point where anyone could sense it. This sensation only grew stronger as Tyler approached the tag, along with a distinct feeling that something was watching him. Waiting for him. Perhaps even trying to talk to him. As Tyler finally ripped the tag from its home, this aura grew to immense proportions. Within seconds, the entire clearing was covered in a thick, purple fog. A high pitched voice cackled in the distance, circling around Tyler quicker and quicker. The glass strewn across the floor clattered together and the ash began to dance across the landscape. A spirit had been roused from its long slumber, and it was ready to play. A pair of eyes appeared in the fog in front of Tyler, their owner chuckling away while the fog began to subside. Once it had died down just a little, Tyler would be able to make out the rest of this creature's body. A small, gaseous form was now before him, getting closer by the second. The Pokémon didn't seem remotely intimidated by human intrusion; in fact, it seemed to want something from Tyler. And not in the nice "I have a quest for you!" way, either...
A malevolent Misdreavus (Level 19) is here to claim Tyler's soul! Please go here to ward it off.

The Misdreavus that attacked Mania was only slightly more powerful then the other spirits which left Tyler somewhat disappointed. Mania was unstoppable in her current shape and only a few areas remained before he could rescue the Chikorita. " Flora should have warned us how weak these spirits would be. It feels depressing to wipe the floor with them like this." Mania still felt no pity at all as these weaklings had not earned her mercy in the slightest. As she retracted her claws the evil presence in the area faded though Chikorita was not out of the woods yet. They still had to return to the shrine.
As much as they hated it there was no other way to the shrine then the Putrid Swamp. They all dreaded returning there but there was no other path. Unlike the last time there would be no spirit to slow them down but the stench there was bad enough anyway. " There is no pleasant way to say this so I will just say it. We have to go back through that cesspool of a swamp in order to reach the shrine to save Chikorita and end this nightmare of a curse. I do not like going through there again as much as you all hate it." Mania snarled at the idea of going back however she reluctantly agreed with him that there was no choice.
" That swamp is utterly disgusting and it should be condemned but you are sadly correct about it being the only option. This whole place is a puzzle but I know that swamp has to lead us the right way." Hollenhund on the other hand still did not care which way they went if it meant getting out of the forest sooner. He was throughly fed up with all the spirits and fog and wanted to find a big city to explore. The group started walking back towards the way they came until they saw a sign saying the Putrid Swamp was right ahead. The gnarly smell only further established that they were close to the swamp.
" We are not here to waste time at all. Once we make it to the swamp we will be looking for a place called Twilight Glade. It should take us bback to the Majestic Grove and from there the shrine. We are getting so close to completing this mission, I want to tell Flora myself that we kept our word." He said as they reached the swamp.

Coming from.the Putrid Swamp
As Kevin and his Pokemon reached the Sombre Valley Oracle and Samantha startes to react to a signal they both picked up on.The spell they were looking for was right up ahead. " The spell is right ahead of us. I can feel a very strong magic clearly designed to chase off evil spirits. I know this has to be what that kind spirit told us about." She said as they approached the remains of a settlement. Seeing a tag attached to a stick in the middle of a ash pit Kevin approached the item and grabbed it.
