Now, you've all hopefully read my segment on color coding. Now, we're going to discuss regular coding. Now I know what some of you are thinking.
Why are we going over this stuff, when all the important stuff is right above my post?
Personally, I prefer to use the code rather than the buttons. I find going to click those buttons takes away from my attention. I also find that I make less mistakes when I do it by hand. There's also lots of codes that aren't up there. So.
Replace the brackets () with square brackets when actually coding!!!!! []
First, is bold. It makes text more pronounced. The code for it is (b)texthere(/b).
Italics. Used to emphasize a word or something. (i)texthere(/i)
Underlining. Doesn't really need explaining. (u)texthere(/u)
Color is a funny one. The basic code is (color=colorhere)texthere(/color), where colorhere could be any color, such as blue, red, green, purple, etc. The more complex way, or if you want to have a specific color, you can use hex codes. They're all nicely listed in this post by myself: Here
USUALLY, text's size could be modified by the use of (size=sizehere)texthere(/size), but it appears as if some boards report issues with this.. The size could be anywhere between 1 and 5, where 1 is smaller than default, 2 is default, and 5 is obnoxiously large.
SIZE=1
SIZE=2
SIZE=3
SIZE=4
SIZE=5
(center)texthere(/center)
Next is URL, or a hyperlink. The basic usage is to just put the link itself, such as zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi. But, say, you wanted to make a different word appear in it's place (like the 'here' used to link to my post above), this is the code you would use. (url=urlhere)texthere(/url). For example, this is the code I used to link to my post. (url=http://zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rarea&action=display&thread=509&page=1)Here(/url)
Images are placed onto the boards with the Img code. Using it is quite simple. (img)Direct image URL here(/img.) The direct url of an image usually ends in a .jpg or .png, not a .html or .com. Remember, using the Center code along with pictures makes them look that much nicer.Here is an example, using my signature (img)http://i29.tinypic.com/140hfgk.jpg(/img)
On a side note, it is best to avoid pictures wider than 500 pixels, as they stretch out the page and make everything all ugly.
Posting youtube links is easy, and the code is what you'd expect it to be. (youtube)youtubeurl(/youtube). The URL is the page the video is on. For example, here is one of my favorite videos: (youtube)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y-0whbqmRk(/youtube)
On another side note, Youtube videos are usually posted with an advertisement, and as far as I know, there is no way to avoid this. Also, it ALWAYS stretches out the page and makes it look all ugly. Keep posting of these to a minimum people, and don't post them in actual RP threads.
Last in this list are lists. (lololololol I made a funny.) They are used to list stuff. Go figure. The base codes for this are (list)stuff(/list). Simple. The actual 'stuff' within it are easy to do, just make a new paragraph for every new list thing. To make it all fancy looking, put a (*) in front of every new list item. Example...
(list)
(*)stuff
(*)morestuff
(*)holycrapstuff
(/list)
Would look like this...
Now, combining codes together is what makes things a bit tricks, I'm going to go over two examples.
First, we want to make some crazy text. All you have to do is use multiple codes.
(b)(u)(i)(color=red)AWESOME(/color)(/i)(/u)(/b)
AWESOME
How about, we make it so the picture in our signature actually links to our profile when you click it? That's something I believe everyone should have, so here is a little tutorial type thing. First, get the image URL of your signature picture... mine is i29.tinypic.com/140hfgk.jpg, as listed above. Then, the URL of my character's profile is zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=achars&action=display&thread=465. All we have to do is combine the two using the IMG and URL codes. As before we first make a URL...
(url=http://i29.tinypic.com/140hfgk.jpg)(/url). Then, we place the IMG codes inside the two URL brackets, like so.
(url=http://zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=achars&action=display&thread=465)(img)http://i30.tinypic.com/25z7706.jpg(/img)(/url)
Oop, can't forget that signature pictures should always be centered. Just wrap the (center) tags around the whole thing.
(center)(url=http://zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=achars&action=display&thread=465)(img)http://i29.tinypic.com/140hfgk.jpg(/img)(/url)(/center)
This gives us the result of...
Click the picture, it links to my profile! Go drop that sucker into the signature field of your proboards profile, and voila!
Now go experiment and have fun with these codes!

(left)texthere(/left) Not really useful, as this is the default.

Next is blockquote. It is something you can use to make your posts look waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than they actually are. It's supposed to be used when quoting somebody, but you rarely see it used that way. (blockquote)texthere(/blockquote)
