'We are all rowing a boat of fate.
The waves keep on coming and we can't escape...'
Name:
Ace Corbett

Age:
14
Gender:
Male
Trainer Type:
A normal trainer, but he has a preference towards grass and psychic-type pokemon.
Hometown:
Olivine City, Johto
Appearance:
Ace is a short, almost feminine-looking, boy. He is exactly 5'1" with a rather petite frame for a boy. Due to this, however, he is very light on his feet and not very strong. His skin is some of the palest around, and he gets sunburned incredibly easily. To make it worse, the sunburns don't go away for a good month or so, leaving him in a rather unhappy mood. The scent of suncreen often lingers around his body, and certain areas such as his arms and neck have small white spots on them from which he hadn't rubbed it in well enough. Ace's eyes are a very deep shade of gold, and often hold a rather spacy and quiet look in them. His hair is a bright shade of blond, making him a good target for the bird pokemon that seem to hate him so much. They often peck his head till it's bruised. Small discolored spots near the back of Ace's head can account for this.
Ace's outfit is simple, mainly worn for protection from the sun. He wears a pair of light blue pants, always making sure they cover from his waist to his ankles, which are the sun's favorite targets for his sunburns. Over his pants is a large, white polo shirt, a hand-me down from his father. Is has been bleached well over a dozen times in its lifetime and remains stiff and bright white. Despite its constant bleaching the dark black rim around its collar has never faded or disappeared, something that Ace and his family have given up trying to figure out. Ace always wears a blue scarf around his neck that matches the shade of his pants. It it always worn loosely around his neck, to prevent any sunburns.
Around his right wrist Ace also wears a pokemon charm bracelet with three charms on it. A silver pokeball, a green Bulbasaur, and a gold ditto. He hopes to put his earned badges on it, if he ever gets them. His shoes are simple pure white tennis shoes. Though they are slightly grey from being worn so much, and rainbows of doodles are scribbled across them from when he gets bored. He sits and colors in his shoes.
A bright silver earring hangs from his right ear in the shape of a Capricorn symbol.
Personality:
Ace is a quiet and shy boy, and isn't willing to talk much unless someone talks to him first. He tends to take to the shadows in largely crowded areas. He his rarely ever noticed by anyone except for bird pokemon. For some odd reason, they dislike him and attempt to peck him to death. He's developed an undying fear of the pokemon in return, and will often turn tail and flee at the first sight of any birds in an area. When someone does get Ace to speak, his voice can never go above a whisper and has a constant, nervous stutter to it.
Despite his quiet voice, Ace has quite an opinion on things. When he talks, he expresses his opinion bluntly. He doesn't care what others think of it, as long as they understand that it is his opinion and not theirs. He is afraid to stand up for what he thinks, however, and often tries to stay out of arguments and remain neutral in situations. He listens to each side of an argument, trying his best to simply be a moderator in them. It's easier for him to solve problems rather than start them.
It doesn't take much to make Ace happy. Giving him a Popsicle or simply saying that you like his scarf would make his day. Keeping in mind how this makes him feel, he often tries to do minor things to make people's days better. Quietly complimenting them or returning an item they had dropped behind them. He is a very patient person, and can put up with things for a rather long amount of time. He'd rather be patient and have a pokemon or person earn his trust rather than forcing them on the spot. As long as they remember that, if they don't trust him then he doesn't trust them. This makes making friends a difficult challenge for Ace, and he doesn't have many of them.
Ace has a bad habit of misjudging things, and basing them off of the way they look. Though he dislikes it when people judge him on what he looks like, thus making him a very large hypocrite. If you do manage to make friends with Ace, be prepared for an amazing amount of clingy-ness. He loves his friends to death, and will do just about anything for them. Even something awful and/or illegal. Without any friends, Ace has a tendency to mope about forests and deserted places. So normally it's better for him to have friends. Luckily he counts pokemon as friends.
Ace has a love of herbs and plants, and enjoys collecting them in his journeys. He also has a soft spot for grass-type pokemon, and loves studying them from afar. Sometimes they seem like his only friends, though like him they run when bird pokemon appear.
History:
Ace was born in Olivine City to his parents, Jade and John Corbett. He was born on a cold, windy winter evening just off the coast of the city. Even when he was born he was a quiet baby, and he never cried. The doctors only sure way of knowing he was alive was that his eyes were peering around the room curiously, and his chest was rising up and down in slow, even breaths. He was the second child next to his sixteen-year-old brother, Ivan.
Ace's birth presented a problem for his parents. With Ivan being old enough to go off on his own journey, and eager at that, they were planning on heading on a cruise on the S.S. Anne. Jade didn't want to leave the newborn alone, but John didn't care. He wanted to go on the cruise, with or without his wife. This cause agitation within his family, and John ended up leaving on the cruise, leaving Jade to take care of Ace. He was never seen by his family ever again.
With the absence of a father, Ace looked up instead to his older brother. Ivan taught Ace everything there was to know about their city. Certain places to buy things, perfect areas to watch the sunset. His favorite place to watch the town was from the top of the lighthouse. Life seemed perfect to Ace for most of his life.
He used to love the sea when he was younger, living in a town like Olivine it was hard not to. That changed when he turned 5 years old. On his birthday he and his family went to the beach. It was fun at first, building sand castles and playing volleyball. Then Ace decided he wanted to go into the water. He went in too deep, and the current dragged him out to a series of rocks. He hit his head and almost drowned. His brother went in after him and saved him. Ever since then, Ace has kept his distance from the beach. He refuses to go in water, no matter what.
When Ace turned 10, however, things seemed to change. His brother became more violent, and he could often hear him and his mother arguing. There were incidences where his brother would try and hit her. But for some reason, Ivan could never hurt Ace. Physically anyways. He beat Ace's self esteem and energy down into a pulp. Soon Ace became nervous, shy, and afraid to say anything in front of his brother. Scared that his ideas would only get shot down again.
From then on, Ace found comfort in going into the forests and gathering and studying herbs and plants. They fascinated him to no end. He learned good places to hide when it rained, which herbs were poisonous to people, what kind of berries were good for pokemon, and where to get things to eat. He felt more at home there then he did in Olivine City. He realized that a long time ago, but never wanted to say anything.
Until he turned 14. On his birthday he finally called up the courage to tell his family that he wanted to leave and start a journey, with pokemon. He wanted to see the world, learn about different herbs, and earn enough money to start his own business one day. His mom was sad, but willing to allow him to go. She had left her home when she was younger than him, after all. She wished him luck, and made him promise to write and visit. His brother was more reluctant. He simply stated that he wished his little brother luck, and gave it a week before Ace would come crawling back to them.
Ace left his home with a heavy heart, and a small determination to prove his brother wrong.
Goals:
Ace dreams of one day owning his own herb and garden shop along a route and selling herbs to whoever wants them and see the world. He also wants to, one day, go back home and ask his brother why he became so mean. The first goal seems easier to him than the second.
