Of what I know of the Masuda Method that sounds like it should work. From what I recall it just involves two Pokemon which are from different regions than the other. So one that's from an English speaking game and one from a Japanese cartridge should definitely do the trick as you said. Best of luck with the breeding.

He hasn't had much luck from what I've been hearing.

It's just one of those things you have to be persistent with I guess. From what i've just read it sounds like the odds are 1/1366 in B&W. And in all honesty that's a LOT better to what it used to be. I remember hearing from a friend who got one within 6 eggs and another who said it took him the better of the day cycling about and hatching eggs for a shiny.

I'm pretty sure Kode has been at if at it for a few days now off and on. But yeah odd based things are never fun to deal with, especially if they drag on for a very extended period of time.

Is it just the shiny colour he's after or a specific set of IVs and natures etc?
I can just imagine how antagonising it must be to finally hatch a shiny but it has a Modest nature and virtually no worthwhile IVs in the right places. D:
With things like these you can really invest a huge amount of time into them. Part of the charm with the games I guess for those in the know. After all, there's few and fair between in terms of games that can boast keeping people using it in this day and age. *pokes all the 6 hour games with zero replayability with a pike*

At the moment I'm pretty sure he's looking for the shiny color, if he's looking for the others he hasn't said or been specific about it. Although It wouldn't sound like him to settle for crappy stats.

One of the reasons I don't go for shinies. Heck, I don't even go for specific natures and IVs- I breed one full box of whatever I want and sort three times- at levels 1, 10, and 20- to get whichever 3 or 4 are best for the things that breed is good for, and release the rest. It's netted me an entire family of max-speed crobats and my teams do just fine against my friend who uses his AR to handcraft his pokemon to all have max IVs and the nature he desires.
I think it's more a matter of personal threshhold for grinding- which is what this is, anyway, just grinding eggs instead of levels. I wouldn't go to the trouble of hunting a shiny with perfect stats because I'm not concerned about squeezing out individual HP of damage or damage sustaining.
You use whatever method you can stand and take the results you're willing to go far enough to get.
