I was just browsing through some Pokemon artwork earlier and I came across a load of Champion pictures and it got me thinking. There's been a few champions now throughout the games' series but who exactly is the best one?
Personally i'd have to go with Cynthia. Not only has she got a pretty formidable team but there's just something that exudes confidence and has an almost regal air about her.
Having said that though, Lance had one of the best atmospheres. His Champion room was fit for a champion and he had a pretty fitting theme tune when you battled him. Gary/Blue also gets a mention as it was pretty surprising to see he made it to the champion spot before you did.

I'm going to have to go with Lance. I always enjoy my battle with him. The last Dragonite is always tough to take down. His style really suits the place. His room is also really great. I love everything about it.
I have to agree that Cynthia is just plain awesome - definately a close second for me. She has a great team and she really suits the part in the game.
Blue/Gary is one of my favourite characters. I love his design and how he's always one step ahead of you up until the very end.
The three of those champions were perfect.
On the other hand, I have to say that Wallace was the most disappointing. He was still tough enough but compared to the others, he really lacks something. Maybe he'd make a good Elite Four member, but Champion? I don't think so.

I never actually played Emerald so I never experienced Wallace as champion first hand so I can't really comment on that but I will say that it seems really out of place. Could they have not just stuck someone else there? Oh well, what's done is done.
I'm so looking forward to HG/SS just to see Lance's champion room and face him once more. ;D

I only had experience with facing the Champion in Emerald and didn't even know that Steven existed as the champion in Ruby & Sapphire for some time. Wallace was a big let down to face. The last gym leader of the region was Water and then to face the form gym leader? You just don't have repeat specialty types in the game. He also made me never choose Torchic again since it was never useful against him.
I have to go with Lance being the best Champion ever and Cynthia definitely comes in close second. The aspect I think that makes them both so great is that they interact with the player outside of the Elite Four battles, helping them in the story. Lance just comes out higher because he has this history coming from Blackthorn, leading the Elite Four before ultimately taking over as Champion. You also just can't beat the Dragon type as the final challenge and he got creative by using dragon looking Pokemon.
Blue was also great since he has a multi-type team like Cynthia, thus making it harder to deal with him with just a few Pokemon. You would think a Champion would only make it that far if they trained all kinds of Pokemon. Then even though I never faced Steven as Champion, he seems like a cool choice with the Steel type. His demeanor is that of an adventurous aristocrat who doesn't just sit on his duff but instead sees the world.
In conclusion: Lance > Cynthia > Blue > Steven > Magikarp > Wallace

I picked Cynthia, personally I think Lance fails because he specializes in dragon's sure they are awesome and stuff but there also very over rated. Honestly Lance was one of the easiest to beat, at least for me. Cynthia I picked as the best, because she had a actual well built team and she knew how to use them. Though I main gain a little more respect for Lance in HG/SS when he is not using only RANDOM MOVES LOL everyturn. Also I am biased against dragon's because everyone is so in love with them. Also Cynthia is pleasnt to look at

@ Joe: Yeah, Wallace was totally out of place. That's like making Bugsy the Champion in HG/SS. You just don't do it. They should have made a new character if they wanted to replace Steven.
I really want to see Lance in HG/SS too. I love entering his room, knowing I've finally gotten somewhere. :3
@ Trent: Haha, Magikarp. Yeah, I completely agree with your choice. That's exactly the way I'd put it. Steven was good enough to be the Champion. His Pokémon were pretty good. He's not as good as the other three, but he's not a complete disappointment either.
@ phoenix: Lol, I like that Lance has Dragon Pokémon. I think they're overated too. I don't actually use them a lot but I think they really go well with Lance. I can't wait to battle Lance in HG/SS.

Can you imagine how awesome a 4 way battle between Gary, Lance, Steven and Cynthia would be?
Without a doubt I think Cynthia would beat them all. Thoroughly. After they're all done drooling over her. Bwahahah!

Cynthia was the hardest (what with her pokémon with perfect IVs) but I found Blue a brilliant surprise when I first met him plus I felt sorry for him with no votes so VOTE TO BLUE!

Bwahahah! lol Joey. I have to agree with you on Cynthia. She was defently cooler then the others. Not to mention she could destroy them in more then one way. Although I hated her Garchomp with a BURNING passion.

I had to vote for Gary. The little prick... always magically one step ahead of you. I remember that I borrowed my brother's action replay and walked through walls to the Elite Four. I was little then and I thought that I would be Champion if I got to that room before Gary. But noooooo, that dick was MAGICAL and HE KILLED ME. I only had... I dunno, Bulbasaur then.
Gary Oak. Always one step ahead of you. Even if you cheat.

lol Joey. I have to agree with you on Cynthia. She was defently cooler then the others. Not to mention she could destroy them in more then one way. Although I hated her Garchomp with a BURNING passion. The fact she had perfect IVs for her entire team was a nice touch to adding some more difficulty to the Champion. I believe the programmers followed a similar route with Lance's Pokemon as some of them were unbelievably stubborn. Her Garchomp was pretty devastating given the chance. I think I always Iced it in fear of being bent over and taken for a ride. D: I had to vote for Gary. The little prick... always magically one step ahead of you. I remember that I borrowed my brother's action replay and walked through walls to the Elite Four. I was little then and I thought that I would be Champion if I got to that room before Gary. I am swayed. Even only by a slight amount to agree with you there but when I think back to how formidable and elegant Cynthia is I stop myself. But Gary was so awesome being that one step ahead of you. I think for that Champion battle, it set up the most aggression as this was it. The final battle with Gary. For too long had he taken one step ahead of you. This was it. He was going to get him and his team served on a silver platter. There'd be no comebacks from having your Champion title forcibly removed from your prestige.

I think Cynthia looked the best too. Always thought Lance was lame, Blue was too typical for my tastes, and Steven was some where in the middle.
Btw Wallace is a gym leader not a champion. I don't care what they made him in Emerald. He will always be the guy that frustrates me to no end with a Milotic.

I know, it felt wrong putting Wallace in as I always knew him as a Gym Leader and not a Champion due to never actually playing Emerald but I figured SOMEONE might object so I included him for the sake of it. I wouldn't actually mind tracking down Emerald and seeing what it was like. I can imagine it being bit of a let down as the whole lead up would just feel like an extended Gym Leader trial.
