Eh… DS is old hat and it's time Nintendo moved on to place their foothold in the handheld market once more from rival competitors (Rumours of a second PSP and this new Apple iPad don't help). There just seems to be this generational shift approaching; after all the DS is now six years old. SIX YEARS OLD. That's a HUGE amount of time for a piece of technology to still be selling. While i'm aware of the DS' sale momentum I just know they won't support the DS over a newer portable console. It’s like saying Diamond and Pearl should have been released on the Gameboy Micro or something. Either way, I’m sure Nintendo sees it that once the next generation of Pokemon games are released the 3DS will definitely become a mandatory buy for a huge market of Pokemon fans. Plus the other bit of news that is leading me to believe that GenV will be for the 3DS is… GameFreak have their hands on the 3DS. If they have it, and a new generation of Pokemon games is coming out… At around the same time the 3DS is scheduled to launch… It just seems all too obvious. The coup de grace of course is this little tidbit: Click. “The Pokemon Company are getting special attention” with the tilt function of the 3DS. Using this 'tilt control' or perhaps as it is better known as now as the 3D gimmick of the 3DS seems to add weight to what was made in that statement from Gamefreak, Arza posted. After all, isn't 3D parallax scrolling (or whatever the hell they're using) entirely 'unprecedented' in the Pokemon universe? I know I’m banging on a bit now but I’m 90% sure of this.

It could be like the gold and silver games. Although they where released for the game boy color. You could also use them with the original game boy.

Only Crystal version you couldn't play on the normal GB, I believe. Gold and Silver? Yeah, they could be played on a normal GB or a GB Pocket.

I suppose that is a possibility. Especially with the rumoured (or was it confirmed the other day? I can't keep up with all this news updating at the minute) that the 3DS would have it's own games media slot as well as a slot for DS cartridges.
Still, it all rests on how vastly different the gameplay/visuals will be between the generations. If it involves any sort of 3D effect and becomes integral to the gameplay, that's the cross-DS compatibility out the window.

Hmm... I don't know if the 3DS will have seperate slots or not. But then again, look at some of the stuff you can shove on a micro SD card!

I know the 3DS is backwards compatible with the DS games. A diffrent slot would be nice, I liked migrating pokemon over to my ds games.

I wouldn't be surprised if a specialised SD card would be employed for their cartridges. I know the 3DS is backwards compatible with the DS games. A diffrent slot would be nice, I liked migrating pokemon over to my ds games. I'm with you on that one. If they don't include a migratory option I am going to be making some heads roll over in Japan. Do they seriously think i've spent all this time breeding and raising Pokemon just to have to start all over again and ditch my virtual buddies?

I'm not sure since it'd be kind of a waste. With the wireless trading and all, wouldn't it be easier to simply do what they did in GSC and have a sort of time machine trade function where you can't trade new Pokemon and Pokemon with new moves into past versions?

That would never work. The coding for the new moves and pokemon didn't exist, and you cannot add new data to a ds cartridge. Thats why when you play on wireless you can only use the original Giratina, and Rotom forms, because there alternate forms didn't exist.
Even with the wireless it would be a pain to transfer all you're new pokemon in. Trades take forever, and are unexciting. And you also have to have two 3DS or DS to do that. It would be so much easier to just keep using migration.

That would never work. The coding for the new moves and pokemon didn't exist It can work. They did it in the GSC days with the RBY games where they could trade. And did you overlook this part of my last post?

I think I completely misread you're post. Migration seems like it replaced the Time Capsule thing.

Heh, there's a reason for that. Nintendo/GameFreak don't like the fact you're playing an outdated version of Pokemon. It's time to rise and shine and join the new generation of Pokemon playing. Thats why the new transfer option of Migration is a one way ticket only. A sad, sad fact.

Actually. If the 3DS has a slot for both ds games and 3DS games then we will have migration. If not we will have the time capsule.

Time machine is so paltry in comparison to Migration. I'm not particularly enthused over the idea of catching X amount of Pokemon just to be able trade over the exact amount I want onto the newer generation. I know some people will be only trading over a couple but I can't leave behind all the various Pokemon i've reared over the years. ;_;

I prefer the Migration feature to anyt time machine. It's easier to play about with and if I want my Torchic I don't have to bother going out to get some Hoenn/Johto/Kanto pokémon, I can just get it.
