The end of February marks a set of the new updates including a new "Moderator Reward System" as well as a new area in Violet City - Ruins of Alph.
Moderator Rewards
Although the system was introduced more than a week ago, I would like to formally announce its introduction here to encourage all staff and members to begin using the new system. There were essentially two things that I wanted to address when designing this system: Quantity and Quality of modding. In short, the sytem is summed up as follows:
Along with the new incentives comes a revamp of the entire modding profession. It is no longer a Moderator's duty to mod anyone and I would like to stress the fact that it is completely voluntary. In fact, once appointed to their position, a Moderator does not need to do any modding whatsoever as long as they remain an active participant of this site. This means that people can stack up on their rewards on a casual basis depending on their mood instead of there being a responsibility to mod everyday.
I foresee a day when nearly all the experienced members of this site will be involved in modding new trainers in some shape or form as the reciprocal relationship of modding and being modded is key to the survival of this site. Therefore more Moderator-exclusive Pokemon and items are expected to be introduced in the future in order to encourage new Moderators. Hence, I'd encourage everyone who believes they understand the ins and outs of the ZapdosZulu battle system to apply for a position here: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=926
Finally, I'd encourage members to start awarding points to Moderators by posting here: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=modcenter&action=display&thread=925
This could be used as a way of thanking others for replying to your thread and can greatly improve relations between you and the staff and thus encouraging them to reply to you more often!
Ruins of Alph
A new area has been discovered west of Violet City but requires the Zephyr Badge in order to gain access. Currently 2 chambers and the digsite are open to the public but another 2 chambers are still under development.
Future Updates
Firstly, specialist NPCs will be added to certain towns/cities. These NPCs will be much harder to defeat and the choice of battling them will be given. However, they will reward trainers with certain TMs if their tactics can be overcome.
A “Town Guide” thread will also be added to some towns/cities which will tell trainers precisely what order they should progress in the roleplay. For example, one in Violet City will tell you that you need to travel through Route 32 to reach Union Cave and a short description will also be given of each area. These will hopefully replace the “Pokemon found in…” and will incorporate both Pokemon locations and NPC trainers into one, easy to understand thread.

There were essentially two things that I wanted to address when designing this system: Quantity and Quality of modding. In short, the sytem is summed up as follows:
- For each mod reply, a Moderator earns one Mod Point.
- An additional point can be awarded by a member who was modded to the Moderator if he/she appreciates the quality of the posts (1 point can only be awarded every 24 hours).
