Alex's jaw dropped in awe and disbelief as the duskull disintegrate the pokeball in thin air. That does not make sense in his head! He took a few more steps back to avoid being targeted and destroyed. It would be terrible to die in this desert with no trace of corpse for funeral and eulo--
His thought wasn't even complete in his mumble jumbo as he tossed a rock at the ghostly pokemon. He wondered if the pokemon would dust this rock too, with ease perhaps?
--funeral and eulogy and console and grieving process.... He stopped to think as he focused on the rock flew in the air toward the duskull.

Unlike the Safari Ball that had been thrown, the Duskull wasn't going to attempt to disintegrate the incoming threat. Instead, the ghost merely bided its time and remained on the spot as the pebble phased right through its ethereal body and skimmed a few paces before settling in the dunes of the sand behind it. Glaring at Alex with its single eye switching between the two holes in its skull, it appeared that even though it hadn't truly affected it, the very act of having a ROCK being thrown at its being was offensive enough to become hostile towards Alex's presence. Stretching out its arms, the Duskull slowly (And by slowly, we're talking the pace of a Slugma here) moved closer in a rather half hearted attempt to claim Alex's soul for his own. Safari Encounter
The Duskull (Level 12) stands its ground. Duskull is currently angry at being lobbed at by x1 Rock. Please select one of the following to proceed:[ Throw Bait ] [ Throw Rock ] [ Throw Safari Ball ] [ Flee ]

OOC: oh joe, i am laughing for no reason on the last sentence. ok, not really no reason, but the mention of Slugma and imagination of the creepiness in blazing hot desert makes me laugh
IC: Stunned by the fact that the rock had gone through its body, Alex wanted to scream as he was terrified of this ghostly thing. But then, he can't really scream since he was sweating all over from the heat, so he let loose a light yelp.
But nobody would be coming to rescue him, since he was having a mental injury of horror right now and not a physical one that needs immediate attention.
Yet strangely, he still wants to catch this pokemon. Perhaps he could trade this pokemon for some other rare grass or bug pokemon for his studies... or non-grass and non-bug types also for his adventure/study. Er, "adventure-study".
Eager to test out how this rock fares with the duskull, Alex tossed a second safari ball at the Duskull. One to put the creepiness at peace, and two, to capture this pokemon, hopefully.
Who knew ghost can be terrifying in broad daylight!

Curiosity is arguably the greatest ally when it comes to exploring new research. So it was ideally fortunate that Alex had a lot to spare as he began selecting a spare Safari Ball to lob at the ghostly desert wanderer. A rock had been enough to rattle this demented soul's spirit but had it weakened it sufficiently for capture? Of course, there was infinite ground to pontificate and speculate but the only way to truly find out was to just do it. As Alex lobbed the Safari Ball forward, it was certain to at least solve one of his problems. If he had wanted to exorcise the ghost's terror from the area, it might have been an idea to ask for some crucifixes at the front reception to throw as opposed to bait, rocks and balls. Nevertheless, soaring towards it, the Duskull didn't seem the least bit pleased as the Safari Ball had its way with it and scooped it up inside its confines. Plunking to the sandy desert floor, the ball began rocking ominously... Oh wait. That was just the capture process. Or not. Getting angrier and angrier in its movements, the Safari Ball split open once more and disintegrated into nothingness. Free to do as it pleased, the Pokemon began its slow moving march onto Alex's soul. All this busting out of Pokeballs and having rocks being thrown through it was making its appetite hungry. Safari Balls Remaining: x23 Safari Encounter
The Duskull (Level 12) stands its ground. Duskull is still bitter at being lobbed at by x1 Rock that one time ago. Please select one of the following to proceed:[ Throw Bait ] [ Throw Rock ] [ Throw Safari Ball ] [ Flee ]

Alex slapped his hands covering his chins as he waited anxiously for the capture....
The usual wiggle, wobble rolling of the safari ball on the sand.
Nope! He felt this was like the Lombre again. Except this thing doesn't seemed to make a single noise except that introductory wail. He found this ghost strangely too noiseless. Even that Lombre growled with its trachea. This.... was worse than the silent Zubats, which from what he heard and learned as a child and teen, was a different matter.
Taking a few more steps back as the Duskull S-L-O-W-L-Y approaches, Alex watched as the safari ball was disintegrated again. Hopefully nobody get these dust on their eyes, he thought. Metallic sand would feel different from sand-sand, huh?
Reaching into his pocket, he threw another rock. He knew the rock would probably go through the Duskull again, but this time, he added a shout of slightly feared "Don't move!" as the rock squealed "Wheeeee!" in the air. Not literally.

The Duskull slowly hovered towards Alex, its ghostly cloaked arms drifting forward, as if trying to reach the human. Suddenly, Alex shouted out and threw a rock at the Duskull. Startled, the Duskull didn't have quick reaction time necessary to make its body untangible. Therefore, instead of the rock passing through his body like smoke, the pebble smacked it right at the center of its skull head, causing the Ghost Pokemon to retreat back from the impact. Instantly, malicious, furious emotions seemed to come off the Duskull like a heat wave. The rock that had hit it instantly disintegrated as dark purple fire enveloped it, leaving charred ashes as it distinguished. The dim, ghostly light inside the Duskull seemed to glow brighter and grow bigger as the ghost continued to float towards Alex, though slowly to add to the suspense. Perhaps it will slowly torture Alex's soul before devouring it. Alex was surprised this time that the rock didn't phase through the ghost pokemon... and also disintegrated in a dark purple fire thing. He was a bit disturbed. The sweat from the heat, or his fear, were mixed together, but he could at least tell that most of the sweat should be from the heat... He watched as the Duskull's eye socket glowed a strange color, and hastily reached and tossed a safari ball. He thought, you'll stay away from me... you floating skull cloth necromancer! OOC: I think you two have too much fun playing with this ghost

This interloper had really done it now. It had been thrown everything at it now bar food and it wasn't going to be sticking around to have a food fight break out. Advancing a millimetre closer, the Duskull snickered to itself as it started to think up all the different curses it could place upon this individual's life. Wrapping itself up in its daydreaming thoughts, the Duskull's singular red eye shrunk as it noticed the man was readying up for yet ANOTHER throwing. Hoping to dodge, the Pokemon instead failed by moving too slowly and was instead sucked up inside the Safari Ball, falling to the floor. Given how much effort Alex had put into this, it was suffice to say he might have a promising career as a ghostbuster. Once... Twice... Thrice...

OOC: Blox for now, thanks! I think I am at 5th encounter... wooper, lombre, houndour, luxio, duskull IC: Status: 22 safari balls, 5 encounter(s), Desert Alex sighed in relief as the Duskull was caught successfully. Why did that just feel like his encounter with the Luxio and Lombre? Maybe something about L-lettered pokemons, but that would not make sense for the pokemon that ENDS in "L". Alex's heartbeat slowly faded into silence as his frightened mind calmed down. Now all he could hear was his feet-- shoes-- brushing against the grainy sand of the desert. He deposited the safari ball into his "captured" bag. Walking with ease and comfort, he walked casually on the desert and looked downward this time, hopefully to avoid those ghosts again, now that he knew that they reside in the desert.

As Alex moved through the desert, a little shaken up by his encounter with the Duskull a larger non ghost type pokemon was making it's way slowly through the sandy area. The sun and heat did not effect it's body at any time nor did it bother it. The heat was actually where it liked it the most as it would let off heat and steam from itself from it's nostrils and shell.
It had seen Alex's capture of the Duskull and decided it didn't want to have any play with this boy, it had to many close calls before in it's other accounts with trainers. Though minding his own business he hadn't noticed he had put himself in front of the young trainer. The turtle looked up and sighed, might as well get this over with, the best thing this trainer could do would flee and leave the lava turtle alone.
A wild Torkoal (Level 8) has appeared! The Torkoal is currently neutral towards you. Throw a Rock, lay some Bait, use a Safari Ball or Flee? Encounter Limit; 6 out of 10
Note by Joey: The level for this expedition is tailored down to the area Alex is currently in, that being Violet City which is 8 - 12. Adjusted accordingly from 20.

OOC: Pretty sure I have 3 points to give to Joey
IC: Just as Alex was walking, he noticed a sudden stream of smoke approaching. He quickly moved backward, thinking the smoke was caused by a stampede of pokemon incoming.
A few seconds have past, and the smoke seemed to barely moved. Intrigued by this, the boy walked forward to investigate this startling matter.
A TORKOAL!
A TORKOAL!
He gasped with his mouth, but hardly any voice came out. He gulped down some water to re-quench his thirst as he debated what to do with this.
First of all, he can tell from the appearance that this pokemon was a fire type. It may have secondary typing, but he would have to go home-- a pokemon center-- to look up this. Second, the name is related to something about coal. He imagined getting warmed up in the winter with this pokemon. Not to mention, warm up the area in general with this pokemon.
Aside from all these potential usage, the little warmth could help cure hypothermia. After all, wanting to be a doctor was the first reason he started adventuring! He aimed to improve himself! At least intellectually, but then, he could improve his other area too!
Not wanting to frighten this pokemon too much, Alex threw a safari ball at the furnace pokemon, hoping he would capture and befriend this pokemon.

Alex's mind may have been boggling with the medical appliances this Torkoal presented but the Pokemon itself was rather contrarily cool in its demeanour. It hadn't wanted to get caught up in a trainer going catch crazy in the safari but with the impressive fires the Pokemon commanded, perhaps it could just as easily melt off any capturing devices that came towards it. Chuckling to itself over how easy it would be, it understandably came as a huge shock to the fiery tortoise when it saw a camouflaged Safari Ball hurtling towards it from out of the palm of Alex. Wriggling its eyebrows, the Torkoal let out a small stream of smoke from its nostrils as the ball nudged into it and began to cover it in the bask of its light. Scooping up the Pokemon into its confines, the Pokemon fell to the sandy dunes and began to rock back and forth. Sitting tucked up inside the Safari Ball, a look of wonderment struck the Torkoal's face. Perhaps adventuring along wouldn't be so bad after all. Once... Twice... Thrice...

Status: 21 safari balls, 6 encounter(s), Desert oh noes, four more XD
IC: As the pokeball snap shut with a loud ding, Alex was extremely surprised and elated with the surprise capture. Now he can battle in winter with a fire pokemon instead of shivering in the cold, and possibly freezing hail and chilly wind.
Looking at the pokeball, he wondered what to name it. He picked up the pokeball and stared at it, wondering how this pokemon would behave and act, as well as interact with other pokemon.
(box since I have no room lol, name blank for now) Torkoal Name: [choose] Gender: Male Level: 8 Moves: Ember, Smog, Withdraw Ability: White Smoke Nature/Personality: Adamant Filled with pride, he always think that he is right, and will blow steam angrily when disagreed.
However, for now, he would need a name. Alex stared at the pokeball intensely as he tried to think of a name, completely lost the awareness to his surrounding. Should the name include turtles or tortoise? coal? furnace? heat? lava? smoke? steam? Should it be short with little syllables or long?
OOC: also note to self, 4 points to Joey and 1 point to Megan in this thread.

A sudden thundering sound could be heard echoing through the desert land. The ground underfoot seemed to rumble, as if an earthquake had siezed the land. However, the rumbling, growing louder, can actually be distinguished as the sound of hundreds of hooves pounding the earth. A stampede of what looked like giant bulls was hurtling towards Alex, there pounding hooves causing the earth to shake and clouds of dust were billowing through the air after them. Suddenly, the lead Tauros spotted Alex and let out a warning bellow to the others. Many other pairs of angry eyes turned their attention to Alex. Their paces seemed to slow a bit until the lead Tauros broke away from the herd and swerved to face Alex, snorting. It mooed something to the other, clearly telling them to go on ahead. With some reluctant replies, the rest of the herd continued on, leaving Alex and the one Tauros behind.
This Tauros was clearly the leader of the herd as it glared warily at Alex. It had decided to stay behind to judge how much of a threat Alex was to the whole herd. The bull Pokemon let out a challenging bellow, pawing at the ground as it watched what the Trainer would do next.Wild Safari Encounter--------------------------------------------------------- Wild Tauros(Lvl 11) appeared!Tauros is neutral towards youPlease select one of the following to proceed: [ Throw Bait ] [ Throw Rock ] [ Throw Safari Ball ] [ Flee ]

As the ground rumbles and tumbles and quakes, Alex quickly hid the torkoal pokeball in his pockets and looked up. He nervously surveyed the land, hoping he would not be fallen into a sudden sandpit or sand-trapping event.
He also rotated his head left and right slowly, making sure there were no duskulls around. Then, as he heard the deep voice of moo, he saw the angry Tauros.
Tauros?
He tried to recall something. Didn't someone wanted to exchange Tauros for something else? He can't remember, but committed to catching every pokemon he haven't seen anyways, like he had been doing ever since the Lombre.
He reached his hand into the bag on his bag and carefully select a small rock based on the feeling imprinted on his hand. After shuffling through about three rocks, he selected the fourth rock he was holding and tossed it.
