I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS After successfully obtaining her Bulbasaur from Elm in the sleepy little town of New Bark, she began the walk to the west side of the town which was in the general direction of Route 29. Although she had to leave her pet behind, it was a reason to start her own journey entirely on her own. She also decided that Freyja should be allowed to get some fresh air, so she pressed the button on her Pokeball. In a flash of red light and a silhouette of a Bulbasaur took its place, Freyja yawned and took a look at her surroundings. After a while, the duo arrived at the aforementioned route in which the cool breeze was relaxing on a whole new level. Freyja was amazed at the many patches of greenery and even more liking the kind of flowers that this route brought. For a beginning trainer such as herself, it was probably the most practical location to learn the basics of battle. There was also patches of grass in case her Bulbasaur wanted to play around which the little Seed Pokemon decided to frolic around. It was no surprise that Freyja had been attuned to nature as Amaryllis sat down with the Bulbasaur. She patted her on the head and made sure that Freyja was feeling safe with her trainer around. Just on the cusp of spring New Bark was certainly blessed with great weather. Already much of the snow had melted into the ground and left the matted stalks of grass able to breath and begin turning upward to the sunny sky. The thicker bundles of grass of course were more sturdy regardless of the elements, however, even they were left patchy from the ravages of winter. Arguably this left them all the more fun to play in as the slivers of shade from the large blades of muted green kept some of the snow cool enough to turn to ice. Not all were enjoying the day quite as much as young Freyja and Amaryllis. From above a pair of beady eyes glared down. A ball of stewing feathers it was. Hunched on a barren branch of a dying evergreen the little critter scrutinized every frolic from beneath bushy eyebrows. What did they have to be so happy about? Further mockery of the misfortunes that had fallen upon the grumpy bird perhaps? This day had been nothing but trouble for the young pidgey. Losing half its food to a rattata. Getting run out of its bath by a spearow. A sentret defacing its favorite tree with silly drawings. As the cheery pair below brought these reflections of the morning Pidgey only sunk further and further into a puff of feathers. Its talons gripped the branch tighter. No sooner had the avian decided to turn away and leave did a shuffle of snow dislodge from some higher branches. A pile of wet cold snow slapped right down upon the pidgey. It squawked in shock of the light blow and straightened right up. No doubt the noise and falling clump of snow would have drawn the attention of those directly below. Pidgey looked down and locked its gaze on the bulbasaur. With a quick shake Pidgey spanned its wings and descended upon the budding trainer. A battle may be just what it needed to improve its mood. I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS Just as the pair were enjoying their bonding time together, Amaryllis heard the flap of a bird's wings which could only mean a Flying-type Pokemon had interrupted this peaceful moment. Freyja noticed a Pidgey attempting to dive bomb her, so the young woman gave her Bulbasaur a command. "Freyja, let's start off with Tackle!" The Seed Pokemon immediately dashed forward towards the dive bombing Pidgey with the attempt to charge head on to her wild opponent. At the moment, the little Bulbasaur was feeling the heat of battle and such an adrenaline rush was encouraged during her very first battle with a wild Pidgey. She had no idea that some bird Pokemon tended to be a bit more aggressive than others though it was just her own experience with the wild Taillow she encountered outside of Rustboro. Then again, there were probably far more aggressive Pokemon which were a lot worse than Pidgey anyway. <p> The Pokedex described Pidgey as a normally docile Pokemon than Spearow which seemed to be true. Perhaps the wild Pokemon may have saw Freyja as easy prey to take advantage of, but this Seed Pokemon wasn't just easy prey to a smaller bird. [ OOC ] @staff MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Both Pokemon were wildly inexperienced at battling. The Pidgey in particular had been born in the dead of winter in this same little evergreen tree, but had been left to fend on its own as soon as it learned to fly. Winter was definitely not the best time for a hatchling to be introduced to the world and its experiences so far have been less than joyful with so many other Pokemon fighting for survival in the bleak wilderness. Frejya was an unusual looking creature from the little bird's perspective and the first bit of green plant matter it had seen. Instinctively, the Pidgey had associated her as food and tried to dive-bomb her. Ideally, pecking with its beak or even a gust of wind generated with its wings would have been a more effective attack, but the young Pidgey could only flop onto the Seed Pokemon's back but not until Freyja had launched an attack of her own. Seeing the Pidgey come down from the sky, she traced its movements and headbutted the helpless little bird when it was in range. I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS Fortunately, the Pidgey was sent flying through the air via Freyja's Tackle which meant that the young Bulbasaur was doing a great job. As the Seed Pokemon had finished her assault, she began sliding along the ground as if there was leftover snow making it so her movements were a bit erratic and hard to control. She tried to dig her claws into the ground in order to stop the inertia of her movements which worked. She would see it fit to wait for further orders from her trainer, judging by her opposition being inexperienced in battle as well. "Good job, Freyja. Let's use another Tackle attack!" As the order was issued, the little Bulbasaur began using the advantage of a slippery landscape to charge head first onto the vulnerable Pidgey once more. Perhaps the tiny bird Pokemon had a lot to learn about battling, especially since the young trainer learned that all Pokemon, whether they were big or small, had the natural instinct to fend for themselves in the wild to survive. Pidgey's damp feathers glistened in the sunlight as Freyja stood across it on the thawing field. Amaryllis' Bulbasaur had started to get the hang of sliding across the wet turf to gain momentum and the next Tackle was more impactful this time sending the ruffled bird hurtling backwards. Pidgey winced from the blow and there were clear signs it was tiring. Flapping its wings a couple of times, the bird responded by taking off from the ground almost instantaneously and staying low to the floor, it careened back toward Freyja, slamming into the Grass type's midriff at high speed. Freyja stumbled backward from the impact, trying to shake off the blow. I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS Once Freyja's Tackle had made its mark, she was sliding across the ground and only tried to stop her own movements to keep herself from bumping into a tree. The wild Pidgey had struck back with its Tackle which led the Bulbasaur to slide in the opposite direction. She was panting from exhaustion, but her opponent seemed to be close to passing out too. When she tried to go back to her trainer's side, she would slide across the slippery, wet ground to get herself away from the wild Pokemon. With the wild Pidgey weakened, Amaryllis procured an empty Pokeball from her bag and threw it at the tired bird Pokemon. The spherical red and white capsule would sail through the air as Freyja watched the whole thing unfold before her very eyes. Amaryllis knew how tired her Bulbasaur must be, so she could give her Pokemon some rest afterwards. [ OOC ] @staff MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Now a crumpled ball of fluff resting among the stalks of defrosting grass, the Pidgey could only watch as a round object fell from the sky and struck it on the tip of its beak. The little avian Pokemon had no idea what was happening to it as it felt like it was being sucked inside. From within it contemplated very many things. It's short but arduous life so far and the warm confines of the Poke Ball. It wriggled about a bit as it weighed all of this up. Once... Twice... Thrice... In the end though, what may have won it over was the thought that this walking birdseed dispenser seemed to be following this trainer around too so maybe this was its ticket to a free daily buffet!

I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS Once the wild Pidgey was caught, she picked up the Pokeball which held the confined Pidgey inside. At least now, Freyja deserved a rest and she could train her newly caught Pokémon this way. "Freyja, let's get you some rest." She pressed the button on the Bulbasaur's Pokeball as a flash of light sent her back to safety inside the spherical capsule. Putting the Pokeball inside of her bag, Amaryllis promptly pressed the button on Sigurd's Pokeball as the silhouette of a Pidgey came into view. The tiny bird Pokemon came to perch onto his trainer's shoulder while he seemed to be waiting for something, maybe he was looking for some delicious bird seed. She did remember to pack some before leaving to Johto, so she took out a bag of bird seed, scooped up a handful, and let her Pidgey eat out of her hand. As soon as he was finished eating, she put the bag away and continued on. There were much more wild Pokémon to catch, but she should also train the inexperienced Pidgey into a stronger team member. The road to becoming a Pokémon Master was long, but she was sure that she could accomplish it in some way. Route 29 | It was a fairly slow day on Route 29. Well, at least that was what Youngster Joey thought as he surveyed the area, The Rattata he owned dangling from his arms. Now Joey was sort of a braggart, or at least that's how other's on the route would describe him. He thought his Rattata was the best thing since the invention of sliced bread. He and his top percentage Rattata had dominated the route, in his opinion. Why would anyone else oppose them? The Rattata however, didn't feel quite the same way. While Joey thought the simple purple mouse had no limits, he was growing tired of the boy's antics. What Joey described as dominating the route and striking fear into the hearts of all new trainers who crossed them, was really just Joey...Joey losing a bunch of times and then insisting he won and annoying those trainers to the point of agreeing with him. To him really, it was quite sad. But he also supposed that it didn't matter too much. Everything would work out eventually, and Joey would get his butt handed to him and he'd finally realize he wasn't as great as he thought. Right? Riiiight? In a moment, the thoughts of the young rat would prove wrong. A young lady was walking down the path, minding her own business. But Rattata knew that Joey would seek her out. Joey had this weird belief. This weird thought that if you locked eyes with another trainer, that you had to battle. Who in the world that wasn't Joey did that anyway? It was preposterous. Absolutely preposterous. "Trainer ahoy!" Joey called as Rattata was suddenly launched into the air by his tail, shrieking in annoyance as he sailed through the air and finally dropped right in front of Amaryllis. The poor creature was now dusting himself off as Joey came up behind him. Indeed it was only a matter of time. A matter of time before the purple mouse bit one of his fingers off. But today wasn't that day. "Hey you, battle me! Rattata and I will show you who the kings of the route are!" Rattata rolled his eyes. Here they went again. Youngster Joey would like to battle! Youngster Joey sent out Rattata (♂, Level 5)! |

I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS No one prepared her for the worst that is to come. The strongest trainer that approached her was... A little boy and his Rattata. This little boy was heard bragging about his "top percentage" Rattata, so he seemed to fashion himself as the top dog of the route. The first and only Pokemon the Youngster sent out was of course, his Rattata. "Very well, I accept your challenge. Sigurd, you're on." As Sigurd would fly down and land on the ground, there was no running from a trainer battle. Once you lock eyes with one, there was no escape and winning was the only option. She would also assume that they had the first move, so she gave the very first order to the avian Pokemon. "Let's start off with a Tackle, Sigurd!" The tiny bird took flight and charged forward at the opposition in a dive-bombing fashion. Despite the tiny bird's size, he was putting in effort to get stronger himself. Perhaps he wanted to show this braggart that he was not the king of Route 29 as he fashioned himself to be. [ OOC ] @staff MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Ha-ha! A Pidgey! cried Joey triumphantly before the battle had even begun. We've squashed hundreds of these puny birds, haven't we Rattata? The Youngster's purple rat Pokemon rolled his eyes at his trainer. Let's get the jump with Quick Attack! This Rattata was nonetheless in tip top shape and rushed forward nimbly at break-neck pace and before Sigurd could make a move, his opponent had already pounced, striking the little bird with a glancing blow. Sigurd immediately fought back hurtling himself at Joey's Rattata. I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS The Youngster's Rattata used Quick Attack before her Pidgey made his move which was highly annoying, but then again, so was the Youngster's brags about beating a lot of Pidgeys. Besides that, Sigurd was really hurt and she wasn't so sure that he should be battling against a stronger opponent. For that reason, she would have to switch out her Pidgey if he needed a lot more training. Sigurd, let's get you some rest." Pressing the button to return him back to his Pokeball, she then sent out her Bulbasaur. Freyja was as energetic as ever as she waited for further orders. "Alright, start with a Tackle attack, Freyja!" The young Seed Pokemon charged forward with the intent of using her head for the assault. Amaryllis was made aware of how devastating Quick Attack could be, not being able to make a move before it hits was a bit detrimental to Pokemon training. Plus, she could always have Sigurd hunt down wild Pokemon to have him get stronger anyway. Perhaps she had a lot to learn when it came to Pokemon battles itself. It certainly wasn't going to be easy to a beginner, and the path to getting her first gym badge would truly be a test to see whether she could survive the world of Pokemon. She was in fact counting on Freyja to weaken the rat Pokemon before sending out Sigurd again, but he was badly hurt. Should she try to risk it? [ OOC ] @staff MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Joey saw that Amaryllis' Pidgey was tiring and sensed that his first victory was so close he could taste it. Rattata, we've got this now! Finish this with Tackle! commanded Joey pointing directly at Sigurd. As his Rattata accelerated forward, Amaryllis quickly withdrew her Pokemon and switched in Freyja! Rattata crashed into the Bulbasaur immediately following the switch in. Hey, no fair you can't just swap your Pokemon like that! Alright weaken it's defenses then with your Tail Whip! The purple rodent leapt into the air and slapped his tail into the ground in front of Freyja who winced slightly. However, Frejya carried out her trainer's instructions perfectly and headbutted the youngster's Rattata. I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS When Joey commented on switching not being fair in Pokemon battles, she reaponded. "Well, I just needed to get my Pidgey out of harm's way, so have fun with my Bulbasaur." At the very least, Freyja could handle Rattata with an equal strength to the foe. However, she should heal Sigurd afterwards, and Arceus forbid that she shouldn't send a weaker Pokemon against a much stronger one this time. So Joey decided to go with the weakening approach on her Bulbasaur, huh? Then she should make use of that sttategy, and claim victory that way. "Freyja, let's hit his 'top percentage' Rattata with Tackle!" The Seed Pokemon proceeded to charge forward again at the purple rat Pokemon. The slippery, wet ground provided the inertia needed for the attack to gain traction, courtesy of her attempting to master moving at such a faster speed. This Youngster was too cocky that he would gain victory, but he would be getting whatever number of losses soon enough. As a trainer who had just started out, Amaryllis wasn't too bad in the battling department, except that she probably needed to make use of those weakening moves soon enough.
