The time had finally come yet again, and Venom walked into Johto's National Park with every intention of doing his very best in this contest. His trusty Arbok was at his side, the very same Pokémon he'd used in the contest before, and won. However, things were different this time. True, Venom thought that winning this contest for a second time would be nice, but winning wasn't his true reason for entering this contest for a second time. During his first go at this contest, Venom had entered with hopes of winning, and walking away with a new friend and teammate for himself, which he'd found in his newly evolved Whirlipede, but the ninja wasn't competing for himself this time. This time, he was competing for someone else. Someone he'd met about two months before he left on his journey through Johto.
On that day, the Fuchsia gym had received an e-mail from an unknown trainer from the Alola region. He never gave out his name, but he did mention that he was a former grunt from Team Skull. In his e-mail, he said that he was sending a mass e-mail to all well known Poison type trainers for some reason. Janine disregarded this message right away, but Venom's curiosity was peeked, so he wrote this Alolan trainer back. It turned out that Venom was the only trainer that answered his call, and the two ended up talking over their Pokegear for just over a month. Ordinarily, Venom would've been very suspicious of someone from an evil organization, but Team Skull wasn't really an evil organization at all. No where near as bad as Team Rocket. At least that was Venom's thought.
In any event, this former Team Skull grunt told Venom that he was striving to become a strong trainer, and to do so, he required rare and powerful Bug type Pokémon. Venom still had quite a few questions for this person, but if that's all he wanted from the Poison type trainer, then Venom was more then happy to lend him a helping hand. Sadly, since coming to Johto, Venom had yet to encounter any truly rare Bug type Pokémon anywhere, even on his first go around in this contest. Based on the information he got from his new Alolan pen pal, so to speak, Venom knew that not just any old Bug type, like a Caterpie or Weedle would do. As such, Venom's second go around at Johto's famous bug catching contest was for the soul purpose of tracking down and capturing a truly rare Bug type Pokémon for this former Team Skull grunt. Fortunately, Venom wasn't nearly as clueless as he was during his previous run in this contest, and he knew what he was looking for this time.
Unlike last time, Venom had taken plenty of time to familiarize himself with the list of Bug type Pokémon that were present in the National Park during the competition. While a Pinsir or a Scyther would both make great catches, Venom's chosen target's for this contest were the bugs from Unova, much like his Whirlipede. Karrablast and Shelmet. Although, given his previous experience with this contest, Venom knew that none of these Pokémon would be easy to find, as he'd found none of them during his last go around. Even so, that wasn't about to stop him from doing his best to find at least one of those Bug type Pokémon, and maybe even win this contest for a second time in a row. "Okay Arbok, we're looking for these Pokémon." The purple haired trainer showed Arbok some photo's of a Karrablast and a Shelmet, and the cobra Pokémon nodded, quickly memorizing the images she was being shown. "Arbok. Arbok." After Venom put the photo's away, he and Arbok got low to the ground, staying very quiet, and slithering through the tall grass like the serpents they were, searching for the Bug types they'd come to find.

It wasn't long before the duo had slithered stealthily up to the first rustle of movement that caught their attention. It took a few moments for Caterpie to even realize it had company. Once its eyes saw the menacing serpent it went stiff with the quietest squeak of fear. As Arbok's intimidate ability did its job, Venom let out a small sigh of disappointment, staring down at the small Bug type they'd found. "Well, I suppose they're some of the rarest Pokémon here for a reason." Venom said to himself, referring to Karrablast and Shelmet. He had hoped that they'd get lucky and find one of them first, but this outcome still wasn't all that surprising to him at all. This may have been pretty good as far as Caterpie went, but it still wasn't what they were looking for, nor was it good enough to win this contest. And so, the Poison type trainer made the order he had to. "We cant afford to waste too much time here Arbok. Hit Caterpie with back to back Crunch attacks, then lets get back to the search for what we came here for." This whole experience reminded Arbok of her previous go around in this contest as well, so after hearing her trainer's commands, she opened up her jaws, and lunged right for the small shaking Bug type, crunching down on it two times in a row. "Ar!"

Once Caterpie's struggling had stopped, Arbok dropped the small Bug type down on the grass, then turned back to her trainer. "Arbok." Venom walked over quietly, and gently rubbed the top of Arbok's head, making the cobra Pokémon smile and blush. "Great job as always Arbok. A shame this wasn't one of the Pokémon we've come to find though, and according to the contest rules, we only have four more chances to find one of them." The ninja knew that their time was limited as well, so the pressure was on high. Fortunately, Venom had Arbok there to keep his mind and body calm and relaxed. "Ar. Arbok. Ar." Venom took a deep breath, then smiled at his serpentine friend, grateful to her. "Thank you Arbok. Your right. We still have four chances, so lets use them and see what we can find." With that, the poisonous pair got down low again, slithering on through the tall grass in search of one of their two targets.

When they came upon this new section of the park, Venom didn't recognize the wild Pokémon they'd found at first, and just looked down at it with a puzzled expression. It took him about a minute to finally put it together, as he recognized this small Pokémon as a Sewaddle. A bug type from the Unova region. "Well, your from the same region as the Pokémon we've come to find at least." Venom said to himself, then turned in the direction of the child just as he was running towards them. The ninja and his Arbok didn't pay the child much mind, but hoped that he didn't scare away any Karrablasts or Shelmets that might be hiding in the area at least. However, as soon as the pair turned back to the wild Sewaddle, they could smell a fight coming on right away.
As the small Bug type's gaze locked on Venom and Arbok, they locked their gaze on it in return. "There's a major misunderstanding here, but I doubt this Sewaddle will listen to us." Arbok nodded in agreement, then asked her trainer what he wanted her to do. "Arbok?" The Poison type trainer took a moment to think about it, and quickly reached a conclusion. "I know its not what we came for Arbok, but just in case, I think we should capture this one. If we don't find a Karrablast or Shelmet, this Sewaddle's level of rarity might still be enough for us to win this contest at least. So show Sewaddle your Glare attack." Venom had decided to capture this Sewaddle as a stand in, just so he and Arbok would have something to present to the judges if their main goal for this contest failed. "Arbok! Ar!" Listening to every word from her trainer, Arbok gaze Sewaddle an intimidating Glare, trying to paralyze the Bug type Pokémon.

This made Arbok's various intimidating stares all the more effective. It became so wrought with fear it felt like all its muscles had turned to stone. It wasn't sure it'd be able to move at all. Sewaddle closed its eyes and put everything it had into just moving forward. Only once it started going did it open its mouth and lunge for where it assumed the snake to still be and bite Arbok. Rather ineffectively.

Arbok didn't even flinch when Sewaddle had bitten down on her tail, as she felt almost no pain from its attack at all. The cobra Pokémon almost felt bad for the small Bug type Pokémon, but she'd still fulfilled the one job her trainer had given her for this battle. Now that Sewaddle was paralyzed, Venom reached into his bag, and pulled out one of the Sport Balls he'd been given. "Excellent work Arbok. Ill take over from here." The ninja gripped his first Sport Ball of the contest, and Arbok shook Sewaddle off of her tail before moving aside, giving Venom a clear line of sight. "Sport Ball, get it!" With a quick motion of his arm, Venom threw the orb right at the paralyzed Bug type, hitting it right in the side of its head. Once Sewaddle was sucked inside, Venom and Arbok watched closely, waiting to see if their attempted capture would be a success or not.

SUCCESS! The sport ball rocked back and forth violently as the bug pokemon fought against the capture. There were a couple small snaps throughout the process but eventually it quieted. Venom breathed a sigh of relief once the capture was complete, relieved that he didn't waste too many of his Sport Balls trying to capture a Pokémon that wasn't one of his two designated targets. The ninja walked over, picked up the ball containing Sewaddle, and put it away for now. It wasn't the Pokémon he'd come to find, but it might come in handy if neither Karrablast nor Shelmet makes an appearance. However, before moving on, Venom took a moment to turn to his faithful friend, Arbok, getting an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. The venomous trainer was happy that his Pokémon had leveled up and gotten stronger, but with only one badge on him, he knew what this meant. The next time they battled together, Arbok would likely disobey his orders, and act on her own accord.
Idealy, Venom would have Arbok use her Glare attack before anything else to make the Bug types they encounter easier to capture without hurting them, and in a contest where HP mattered, Arbok's new defiance would definitely complicate things. As her trainer stared at her, Arbok stared back, looking puzzled, and wondering what exactly her trainer was thinking about at this time. "Arbok?" Hearing the sound of the cobra Pokémon's voice, Venom snapped out of his thoughts, then smiled at her, and gently rubbed the top of her head. "Its not a big deal Arbok. Don't worry. Winning this contest again would be great, but in the end, that's not why we came here. All that matters is that we put forth our best effort to find a Karrablast or Shelmet, injured or not. We may not win this contest if they get hurt, but at least we'll have them, and we can always heal them after the contest. So lets get going. Our window of opportunity hasn't closed just yet my friend." Arbok wasn't really sure why Venom was telling her all of this now, since she already knew all of that herself, but she was more then happy to do her very best, just as Venom was. And so, the two sunk into the tall grass once again, and slithered along silently, continuing their hunt for the two Bug type Pokémon they'd come to find.

The poisonous pair continued on through the tall grass, dead set on locating the rare Pokémon they came for. However, they both stopped when they heard the sounds of wings beating through the air above them. Venom and Arbok looked up to see a wild Beautifly fluttering around above them, trying to get their attention, which seemed to work. It was at that moment that Venom began to think fast, deciding on their next course of action. This was encounter number three, so going by the rules of the contest, he and Arbok only had two more shots at finding a Karrablast or Shelmet. But for now, they had to deal with this Beautifly. While its rarity was the same as the Sewaddle's they'd captured earlier, and would probably score them more points with the judges of the contest, Venom decided against capturing this Bug type.
For one thing, Sewaddle was a much rarer Pokémon in Johto as a whole. And another thing, Arbok was now disobedient. This meant that they would likely damage the wild Beautifly before capturing it, thus, lowering its point value in the contest. So, after taking a few seconds to ponder all the factors involved, Venom made his choice. "We cant just run at our current level, so Arbok, use your Crunch attack! Back to back!" Venom was well aware that Arbok would now act on her own during battle, but he still gave her an order, and hoped for the best. Things might not go the way he ordered them to, but Venom wasn't too worried about Arbok herself. After all, disobedience was also a sign that a Pokémon was strong.

As Venom watched Arbok defeat the wild Beautifly, he was rather surprised to see Arbok carry out his orders without any rebellious actions at all. However, this was a good surprise, as the ninja smiled at his serpentine friend, walked over, and gently rubbed the top of her head. "Very good. Thank you Arbok." This treatment once again made the cobra Pokémon blush, as her heart raced inside her scaly body. "Arbok. Arbok." Despite the outcome of his battle though, Venom was still rather cautions. Luck was on their side this time, but the contest was still not over yet, and their big prizes still alluded the poisonous pair. And with only two shots left at finding one of them, Venom was starting to feel the pressure, as he grit his teeth.
Arbok looked at her trainer with concern, asking him is he was alright. "Arbok?" Venom didn't turn to her, but he still calmed down for her, not wanting her to worry about him. "Im okay Arbok. Thank you again. We cant afford to waste these last two shots though. The other Bug type Pokémon here keep finding us before we can find Karrablast or Shelmet. I know it seems rash, but I think we should try a more proactive approach for the rest of the contest. What do you say Arbok? Are you with me?" The Poison type trainer looked at his Pokémon with sheer determination in his eyes, to which Arbok gave a confident nod in return, more then willing to follow her trainer anywhere. "Ar. Arbok." Venom nodded back at her, giving her a confident smile, before turning to the tall grass that lay spread out over the land before them. "Good. Then lats find one of them Arbok. Its crunch time." After those words, Venom and Arbok darted off into the grass, not even trying to be stealthy anymore. They just ran as fast as they could through the tall grass, trying to locate, or at least get the attention of a Karrablast or Shelmet before another Bug type Pokémon could get the chance to interfere again.
