Aglaia slapped her hand to her face, how unlucky could you be? She knew there had been a risk of missing but she hadn't expected that everything had missed and that Saury took a turn for the worse when it came to the chance of finding his target. And they didn't really have anything in their arsenal to do anything about it, other than healing the confusion and hope for the best. "Tackle, do your best," Aglaia said after having applied the Full Heal to Saury.
Saury shook his head and felt very unsure of what of the many, many volbeat in front of him were the real one. they seemed to switch and jump around weirdly, and could there really be 20 or more all of sudden? He threw himself forward and half expected to run face first into a tree instead of a bug.
Volbeat: +2 EVA ... Used Tackle & Confuse Ray! Suary [Overgrow]: Confused (Turn 1) ... Used a Full Heal & Tackle!
Seconds after Aglaia got in there to clear Saury's head the real Volbeat swooped in for a tackle. It was sloppy. The bug severely underestimated how sturdy the bulbous pokémon was and ended up leaving himself open for retaliation even if only a brief window of opportunity. The fake doubles swiftly came in to cover for him but Saury was already in motion. With luck the colorful bee hadn't gotten too far and the tackle attack landed. The volbeat squeaked and let out an instinctive confusion ray in response.
The healing helped and Saury was able to get a proper tackle in but it did not last for long. Aglaia sighed as Saury once again succumbed to the confusion and looked at the volbeats like they had 3 heads and were on fire. It almost felt like that for Saury as well, he could see the pokemon in front of him, although hard to believe what he saw, it was like the volbeats multiplied and then combined again, it was really unnerving to watch. He felt pretty sure it was playing with his mind, but how to deal with it he had no idea.
He felt something touching him but he couldn't pry his eyes away from the volbeats, his mouth was forced open and some liquid made its way in and he swallowed. Almost instantly it turned back to normal and he could see that the volbeats was nothing but illusions, although he knew one of them had to be the right one. Aglaia sent him off to try another Tackle, and hopefully that would be it.
(ooc: Used the other Full Heal and a Tackle crosses fingers)
A repeat of the last round commenced, Volbeat charging in with a tackle just as Suary regained his bearings and thus leaving the bug more vulnerable to an attack. And just like last time luck was on the ivysaur's side. Suary managed to awkardly headbutt the tricky fly and send him tumbling into the thicker bushes. The illusions disappeared.
Suary gained 650 XP for defeating Volbeat!
A snickering came from a tree nearby. Apparently Aglaia and Suary had had a small audience as they battled with the annoying firefly pokémon. Whether they chose to engage with the mocking cicada was up to them.

Aglaia laid a hand on her chest and exhaled relieved when Saury had finally dealt with the volbeat, that had been much more challenging than she had ever imagined. She guessed that was one of the plans with the contest, to give people some respect for bug types which was often looked down upon.
Saury looked at where his opponent had disappeared and was unsure of what to feel about it, relieved the battle was over he guessed? Mixed with sadness that he needed to do it at all. He turned his head questioningly when he heard a ill hidden laughter but it wasn't Aglaia who made it. He looked around and noticed the nincada in the tree, he sighed as he knew what would come next and wished it had stayed quiet.
"A nincada! That must be a good training partner, try see if you can hit it in the tree with your Razor Leaf," Aglaia suggested and tried to stay alert and expect some tricks from it, but it was hard.
Nincada [Compound Eyes]: Normal ... Used Fury Swipes! Hit Twice! Suary [Overgrow]: Normal ... Used Razor Leaf!
The nincada was swiftly dislodge from its perch as the razor leaves came. It took a moment to compose itself after the fall, somewhat obscured from the light bush cover at the base of the tree, but soon it was scurrying along the ground and headed straight for Suary. It had steadfast determination glistening in its eyes as it skid to a stop and raised one of its claws to attack furiously. Though, it only managed two.
Saury looked apologetically at the nincada and could understand why it was angry, knocking it out of the tree like that. He wondered if he could possible to against Aglaia's orders in some way, Shadow had expressed surprise that he meant he couldn't and he had seen plenty of others pokemon disobeying their trainers. It wasn't that he didn't know it was possible but it was hard to go against his training. He was no wild pokemon caught and having to learn to work together with a human, he was a pokemon given out as their first and they needed to know they could rely, if they couldn't then they could be in big trouble. He had learned that the starter was the most important thing for a new trainer and a lot of their success was the pokemon's responsibility, Saury couldn't have that on him, that if he failed it would affect all the friends he had gotten with Aglaia, then he rather feel a bit guilty in instances like this.
Aglaia ordered him to use another Razor Leaf and he did so, hoping to end this quickly and spare the nincada for too much injury.
(ooc: I'd like for the scyther to be given to Lei by the way, since she is going to get it in the end anyway. Thank you)
It was certainly a quick end to the fight as the second set of razor leaves cut through the air. Nincada squeaked and balled up, hoping to minimize what damage it could, and in the process the force of the leaves slicing and bouncing off of its light shell was forceful enough to push the wild pokémon back a ways. Once the onslaught was finished the injured bug uncurled, considered a second, then scurried off into the underbrush.
