The time had come once again, and just like his previous experiences, Venom was very excited. He'd always really enjoyed the bug catching contests of Johto, especially after meeting the one behind it all, Bugsy, and earning his second gym badge from him. That very same badge also ensured that Venom's trusted and loyal friend, Arbok, could join him once again on this search for Bug type Pokémon. The venomous duo had managed to win the bug catching contest the last two times they entered together, and both wondered if they'd be able to make it three this time, but that wasn't their main objective for entering this contest. Rather, their reason for entering this time is the same as their reason for entering last time. Venom and Arbok were searching for new Bug type Pokémon to give to their new friend, the last remaining member of Team Skull, Shinya.
They'd succeeded last time, managing to capture a Karrablast, and send it to Shinya to aid in his journey, but the ninja and his serpent had two new targets in mind this time around. Just like last time, they hoped to find a Shelmet for Shinya, but this time, they've added a Scyther to their mental list of targets. After witnessing Bugsy's Scyther in action and seeing what it could do, Venom knew that it was definitely a Pokémon that someone like Shinya should have on his team. Venom knew that both Scyther and Shelmet were present in the tall grass field during this contest, and as he and Arbok slowly entered that grass, he hoped that they'd be able to get lucky enough to find one of them, in the same way that they were lucky enough to find a Karrablast during their last go around in this contest. "Okay Arbok, we're after Scyther and Shelmet this time. You know what they look like, right?" Venom asked his friend, having shown her photos of both Pokémon before the contest, just wanting to make sure. "Ar. Arbok." Arbok gave her trainer a nod, knowing very well that they were looking for the mantis Pokémon and the snail Pokémon. And so, with the images of those two Bug type Pokémon in their heads, Venom and Arbok began their search.

With a silent hustle signature of ninja training the serpent and her trainer would approach carefully so as to not spook the promising target. However, to their dismay it wouldn't be the proud mantis standing there, but a little white cicada clinging to a healthy trunk.

As the poisonous pair began their search, Arbok was surprised to have found a Scyther so quickly, as she quickly alerted her trainer in a quiet tone, tapping his shoulder with her tail. "Arbok. Arbok." Having heard and felt her alert, Venom quickly turned, and nodded, slowly making his way towards the tree that Arbok had pointed out. "Good job Arbok." However, their celebration was premature, as the Pokémon they'd found was not what Arbok had thought it was. Arbok looked down slightly, disappointed, feeling like she'd let her trainer down, having used up one of their five attempts for this contest. "Arbok." Venom didn't mind though, as he gently patted the top of her head, trying to cheer her up. "Its okay Arbok. It was an honest mistake. Lets capture this Nincada anyway though. In case we don't find a Scyther or a Shelmet, Shinya should be able to get some good use out of this Bug type. So use your Glare attack on it." Venom's pep talks always worked wonders for Arbok's spirit, as she lifted her head once more, and did as her trainer asked of her, shooting a very intimidating glare at the cicada Pokémon as it clung to its tree. Like a lump of bricks it dislodged from the tree and fell to the ground. Focused on her gaze, the nincada haphazardly kicked up dirt to try and alleviate the glaring effect. ((No worries! Venom and Arbok had employed the same method they'd used since their first go around in the bug catching contest, and it was now time for Venom's part of the plan. It was a simply method, yes, but it still worked wonders for this trainer and Pokémon pair. The ninja reached into his pocket, and pulled out one of the Sport Balls he'd been given at the start of the contest, narrowing his eyes at the now paralyzed Nincada. "Good work as always Arbok. Now its my turn. Sport Ball, get it!" Being that Nincada was so close, Venom didn't need to use a lot of power in his throw, but his aim was right on target. The orb hit Nincada right between its eyes, and the cicada Pokémon was sucked inside, where it would likely begin its struggles to try and escape. All the while, Venom and Arbok watched from the outside of the sphere, waiting to see if this capture would work or not.

The bug type watched the ball flew overhead from a weak throw. He wasn't sure if he should be offended that he was trying to be caught and by a ninja and it's Arbok no less! But the ball gently tapped one of it's legs and the red beam sucked the pokemon up. Then the wiggling starts it fights to be free but...
 ONE... TWO... THREE... Caught! Venom had did it! he has caught the Nincada. As soon as the ball had stopped its shaking, Venom walked over, picked it up, and put it into his pocket for now. "Well, its not what we came for, but it'll do if we don't find a Scyther or Shelmet I suppose. Im not too worried though. We've still got four chances left to find one of them. So what do ya say Arbok? Wanna keep looking?" Venom asked, turning to his dear friend, and she responded with a good amount of sarcasm. "Arbok?" Her response was something akin to "Like you have to ask?", and it was all Venom needed to hear. The Poison type trainer and his loyal Poison type Pokémon shared a confident grin, then turned to another section of the tall grass field. "I know your always on board Arbok, and I thank you for it. There's still plenty to be motivated about, so lets go see what we'll find next." Taking a slightly less stealthy approach, Venom and Arbok moved onto the next area of the grassy fields, continuing to seek out the Pokémon they've come to find.

All the buzzing in the air made it difficult for Venom to pinpoint the sounds of the Pokémon he and Arbok had come to find, but he still tried his best, closing his eyes, and trying to focus as best as he could. However, the ninja quickly reopened his eyes when one buzzing sound in particular sounded like it was getting closer. Venom opened his eyes just in time to see the Illumise that had appeared before him and his Pokémon, much to their disappointment. "Ar. Arbok." The cobra Pokémon was the first to comment on this, and Venom nodded in full agreement. "You said it. I doubt Shinya had any interest in this one, so just use Crunch and wrap this battle up quickly, okay Arbok?" Arbok responded by quickly narrowing her eyes at her new opponent, and lunging forward, her jaws open as wide as she could make them. "Ar!"

 Arbok gained 650 XP and +1 Happiness! (+14) The purple of the serpent was a beautiful shade. Illumise couldn't help but be transfixed by Arbok, hovering just above the grass line staring at the venomous snake with naive intrigue. She hadn't noticed the silent coiling as Arbok prepared to strike, and fast as she was by the time the evolved pokeémon opened her mouth and lunged forward it was far too late to evade. Arbok snapped down and threw the little bug aside where it would deter them no longer. |

With Illumise out of the way, Venom gave Arbok another head rub in thanks, which did well to make the cobra Pokémon smile and blush. "Thank you my friend." With his keen eyes and ears, it didn't take long for Venom to hear the call of a Scyther through the tall grass. Unfortunately, he also heard the call of another trainer and her Ivysaur, meaning that someone else had found that particular Scyther first. Venom let out a small, but frustrated sigh at this, hoping that another Scyther, or a Shelmet was still lurking about. "Arbok?" Arbok questioned her trainer, asking if he was okay. Venom shook off his slight frustration, and nodded at his scaly companion, before turning and walking to another part of the park, away from where the other trainer and her Ivysaur were battling the Scyther they'd been lucky enough to find. "Its nothing Arbok. Come. We still have three chances left, and I don't intend to waste them." Arbok was still a little unsure, but followed her trainer anyway, hoping that things would turn out well for them in the end.

Venom and Arbok stopped as soon as they'd heard the sounds of music through the tall grass, and a faint memory surfaced in Arbok's mind, as she'd heard this very same music before, back when she firsted took part in the bug catching contest as an Ekans. "Arbok. Ar." Venom let out a sigh, then nodded in agreement, as he too knew that sound anywhere, and it was definitely not one of the two Bug type Pokémon he'd come to find. "I know Arbok. Be ready for another quick finish." At her trainer's command, Arbok readied herself to strike, as she and her trainer waited for their next opponent to show itself. And they were right. It was just as they thought. A wild Kricketune. "As I thought. Arbok, see if you can end this in a single blow again. Use Crunch twice." Venom had absolutely no desire to waste his time on a Bug type like this one, and Arbok was quick to repeat her actions from their previous battle. She lunged forward, mouth open wide, and fangs ready to bite down on any part of Kricketune's body she could get those fangs into. "Ar!"

Arbok gained 750 XP and +1 Happiness! (MAX) 76/77 HP An eeeep shrieked from the viola patterned bug, mustache turning upward in fear. The snake was upon it like a flash of lightning biting down hard and causing the evolved kricket's vision to edge white. Out of instinct it tried to absorb some energy back from Arbok but it was sorely ineffective, and the moment afterward was a complete whiteout for it. |

With another Bug type out of the way, Venom jumped over the defeated Kricketune, landing in the grass on the other side. He knew that he and Arbok only had two chances left to find one of the two Bug types they came for, but surprisingly, Venom didn't seem all that nervous. This was likely due to his and Arbok's most recent go around in this contest, when the very last Pokémon they found was one of the ones they were seeking. Even so, the ninja did have some concerns, wondering if they'd be able to get that lucky a second time in a row. Arbok looked at her trainer with concern, beginning to think that he was putting too much pressure on himself. So the cobra Pokémon slithered over to her trainer, and gave him a nudge on his side, doing her best to comfort him. "Ar. Arbok. Arbok."
Venom turned towards Arbok right away, and shook his head, snapping out of his inner conflict, as he took a deep inhale and exhale. "Thanks Arbok. Im lucky to have you with me. Your right. I need to calm down." The Poison type trainer smiled at his serpentine friend, making her blush, as she smiled back, happy to see her trainer in higher spirits once again. "Arbok. Ar." Venom and Arbok then faced the tall grass ahead of them, and Venom decided to try repeating his actions from the previous bug catching contest. They worked last time, and if at first you don't succeed, try trying again, as the saying went. Venom took a big, deep breath, then yelled out as loud as he could, making sure the whole park could hear his words. "Hey! Scyther! Shelmet! We're coming for you! Come out and face us!" This surprised Arbok for a moment, but then made her get a confident grin, as she joined in, yelling out too. "Arbok! Arbok! Ar!" After that, the poisonous pair charged off into the tall grass, running as fast as they could, making sure that their presence and location was known by any potential Scythers or Shelmets that heard their declarations.
