Seeing that their recent attack had accomplished nothing was definitely not brightening Venom and Arbok's spirits, as trainer and Pokémon shot some rather angry looking glares towards Scyther. "Stubborn bug." Venom remarked, as Arbok nodded in full agreement. "Arbok." With time running out, Venom and Arbok's situation was looking a bit grim, but neither of them wanted to just give up on this Scyther and walk away, especially not after putting in so much work trying to capture it. Letting this Scyther escape now would mean failure for the trainer and his serpent Pokémon, so said trainer decided to take things up another notch. "With so many Sport Balls broken, we've probably lost out on first place again anyway, so no more holding back Arbok. All that matters now is capturing this Scyther. To that end, use Poison Sting again!" Admittedly, Venom would've liked to have won first place for the third time in a row, but he slowly but surely realized that there was almost no hope for that anymore. Never the less, the venomous duo wouldn't be leaving the bug catching contest empty handed, as Arbok shot another round of poisonous darts at the lone mantis Pokémon, aiming to finally weaken it to the point of capture. "Arbok! Ar!"

It was looking worse for wear at this point, and even it knew that it didn't have much chance of taking down the snake as things were. Scyther hung back this time, instead choosing to leer at Arbok in hopes of evening out her intimidating effect.

Unlike Scyther, Arbok was completely unfazed by the rather intense glare she'd received from her opponent, though she did feel her defense weaken a bit. Never the less, this would hopefully not matter in another minute, as Venom reached for his next Sport Ball. With Scyther still paralyzed, and more then half of its stamina having been drained away by Arbok's poisonous stingers, the opportunity for capture wouldn't get much better then now. Given how long this battle had dragged on for, it was very easy for Venom to see that this Scyther was a true fighter, but that only made him want to capture it even more, regardless of his placing in the contest. The only thing that mattered to Venom and Arbok at this point was capturing the Bug type Pokémon before them. "This time for sure. Sport Ball, fly! Get that Scyther!" Venom threw his next Sport Ball with everything he had, hoping that this Sport Ball would finally be the one that does the trick.

The ball lay silent and ready for the boy to scoop it up for safe keeping. But no sooner had that happened as the rhythmic rustle of a waddling pokémon would catch their attention. It wasn't in immediate proximity, thus giving any time for item use, and was at a very leisurely pace. If investigated they'd see the illustrious grey helmet shape that they had also been looking for. What luck! But they could only take one pokémon home. Shineh? rQtUQ7z21-421-42

When the ball finally stopped shaking, Venom and Arbok let out a sigh of relief, happy that the battle was finally over, and the capture complete. Given how many Sport Balls they lost, and how much damage Scyther had taken though, Venom was positive that they wouldn't be winning the bug catching contest this time, especially after Venom had seen another participating trainer capture another Scyther. Still, Venom knew that Shinya would definitely be happy with the Scyther he'd captured for him, as he walked over, knelt down, and grabbed the orb containing the mantis Pokémon. Just then, Venom and Arbok had heard the sounds of rustling, and they both quickly turned in the direction of the sounds they were hearing. The poisonous pair knew that they still had one encounter left for this contest, but with their mission for said contest already complete, they doubted the Pokémon that was about to appear would hold any real value to them. They were wrong. Of all the Bug types crawling and flying around the park during the bug catching contest, the one that had appeared in front of them was the one Bug type Pokémon that was still on their list of Pokémon for Shinya.
As soon as the wild Shelmet appeared in full view for the ninja and his serpent to see, they both went wide eyed with shock, slowly processing this turn of events, as well as the odds in which they occurred. After a full minute of silence, it was Venom that finally spoke up, clenching his fists tightly as he faced the sky, feeling more conflicted then he'd ever been before in his entire life. "Oh my Arceus! You've gotta be kidding me!" Arbok wasn't much better, slapping the front of her face with the end of her tail, shaking her head from side to side, and letting out a frustrated sigh. "Arbok…" It took another minute for the Poison type duo to calm down, but they both managed to do so after a few deep breaths, and some mantras from Venom. The trainer and his Pokémon then looked back down at the snail Pokémon before them, and Arbok turned to her trainer, questioning what they should do. "Arbok?" For once in his life, Venom wasn't entirely sure, so once again, he began to mentally weigh their options.
On one hand, they could just walk away and keep the Scyther they'd worked hard to capture. Venom knew that Scyther was a rarer Pokémon in the bug catching contest then Shelmet, and Scythers were also harder to capture, so if Venom let the one in the sphere in his grip go, he might not be able to find and capture another one during the next bug catching contest. On the other hand, they could choose to let the Scyther go, and capture the Shelmet instead. True, Shelmet was only slightly less rare then Scyther, so the odds of finding another one during the next contest were also fairly slim, they were easier to capture. So, with that, Venom was almost positive that he and Arbok could capture this Shelmet without injuring it, bring it back with them for a ton of points, and likely win the contest for the third time in a row. Venom knew from Shinya's emails that Shinya was also looking to add an Anorith to his team, and he also knew the one and only place to find their fossils, and what type of currency it would take to get there, as well as how much it would cost. The grand prize for this contest was more of that very currency, and that was very tempting to the ninja, especially since there were no guarantees that Anorith's fossil would be the one that Shinya would find on his first trip to the dig site.
Arbok was amazed that Shelmet didn't wander off during Venom's internal struggle, though it wasn't a very mobile or fast Pokémon, but she still kept an eye on it all the same, waiting for her trainer to come to a decision. After a good five minutes, Venom finally reached a decision, difficult though it was. Letting out a sigh, Venom put Scyther's Sport Ball into his pocket, then informed his cobra companion of his choice. "Arbok, we're done here. We're keeping Scyther, collecting what ever rewards we get, then leaving, sending Scyther to Shinya, then continuing on our journey until the next bug catching contest." Arbok listened to her trainer's words, but still wondered what he planned to do with the Shelmet in front of them. "Ar?" Venom quickly addressed that issue, kneeling down a few feet away from the snail Pokémon, knowing full well how shy Shelmet were.
"Listen Shelmet, I know we just met, so I don't expect you to believe or trust in a single word that I say, but one day me and Arbok will come back for you. So today, we're gonna let you go without hurting you. I don't know for sure if you'll still be here when we return, or if we'll be able to find you again if you are, but be sure to get as strong as you can until then. Trust me, you'll need all the strength you can get to work with the trainer whose got his eye on you. Well, hopefully we'll see you again Shelmet. Take care of yourself, until the next bug catching contest." With that, Venom stood back on his feet, put his hands into his pockets, turned, and walked off.
"Arbok. Ar." Arbok said her goodbyes to the Bug type Pokémon as well, then turned and followed her trainer out of the tall grass. Of course, both of them were happy to have captured one of the two Pokémon they'd come for, but having actually found both Pokémon during this contest, they both felt a little defeated as well. Be that as it may, their determination was stronger then ever after this turn of events. It would be a while before the next bug catching contest, and the odds of locating the same Shelmet, or at least another one next time were slim, but if anyone thought that would stop these two from capturing the final Bug type Pokémon they were after in this contest, they'd be wrong. Very wrong. At the end of all of this, Venom and Arbok will have captured both the sword and the shield.
OOC: Venom chooses not to battle the Shelmet, and to end his go around in this contest with the Scyther he and Arbok have captured. And no, Ill pass on Stockpile, Swallow, and Spit Up for Arbok. Thanks.

The perky lips of the shy pokémon poked out ever so slightly more and more as Venom explained his challenge to the pokémon. It was relieved. Surprise fights were never something it was particularly great at or really liked. But this? It was like it had found a rival. The wild bug looked up at the young ninja and gave a soft toot and nod of its helmeted body. It would prepare for next year.
