A Shopkeeper's Best Friend
Have all this inventory for sale and no idea what it's all worth? Well juggle no longer! This handy guide will be your new best friend in figuring out what's what so neither you or your customers will be left a pidove flapping in the wind.
Keep in mind that these are all just suggestions and you are free to price things as you please; just keep in mind the effect it will have on the forum rarities -- and that the minimum transaction amount is $150.
GENERAL
A majority of the items on ZZ follow the prices in games, which can easily be referenced on Bulbapedia.
There are a few exceptions to this due to the massive inflation of some basic one-time-use items in the recent generations, items that we have had to modify the effects of to suit the play-by-post format, or ones that we have placed into our RT Shop (RT Items are touched on further below). The general-exclusives can be referenced at the bottom of our Exclusive Differences thread. This list also includes costs for our custom items.
You may want to deviate from these a bit based on how the items are otherwise obtained on the forum. Such as non-basic berries like Enigma/Micle/Lansat/etc. for example can only be gotten through events, which are often then multiplied in Estate Plots. On the Exclusives list they only sell for $100, but in your shop it'd be more reasonable to ask for $500 or more.
In general, when deciding what something should be worth in your shop take a look at the Buy/Sell Cost in the most recent Generation of Games, be cognizant of how difficult something is to obtain on the forum, as well as of our differences list. It is recommended not to go below the Sell Costs established in these resources, since your customer could turn around and resell them to a PokéMart for more than they bought them from you.
RT ITEMS
These are a bit trickier and much more wishiwashi. When selling an RT Shop item you need to keep in mind the value of an RT. 1RT is roughly estimated between $2000 - $3000 ea. Based on a Rare Candy sell cost of $5000, and the Special Poké Balls buy cost being ~$3000 in the PokéMarts throughout the forum.
You can also consider that, on average, members will obtain about 3RT per month ignoring any special events and assuming at least one of our regular monthlies is run (like Buena's Password). So keep in mind how much time and effort goes into obtaining the RT value, as well as how popular an item it is. Don't be afraid to charge a premium for highly sought after, or somewhat difficult/rare, items.
POKÉMON
By far the most difficult to figure out fair pricing with how varied it can be to obtain them. The ZZ community is very friendly so it can be easy to fall into that mindset of not wanting to deny a customer one of their favorite pokémon and practically give it away. BUT! That is dangerous. By doing this you potentially harm the value and rarity of that pokémon.
Out of all the categories of things you can sell, pokémon require by far the most attention to how difficult it is to obtain on the forum. Make sure you are referencing the Availability list and our Egg Tiers when pricing them.
For added assistance, below is a basic chart to help give an idea of what to sell things for.
The below is based on (new) Common/Uncommons in the noted areas, so you may want to go higher for Rares and take into account any added popularity or progression based tax ;D
*Keep in mind quest difficulty/length, such as Dying Wish. Scatterbug is trivial to obtain and low tier but requires breeding time/money to finish the quest; so it could probably sell for $1000 - $1500 ea while the end reward (ignoring T5) would be a $10,000+. Larvesta itself, as a Tier 5 pkmn, would be more suited for $30,000+.
They are without a doubt the most difficult to obtain pokémon and are treated as sort of end-game rewards. By giving out any Tier 5 pokémon you are removing an incentive for that member to continue progressing through the Johto boards; keep that in mind when considering breeding and/or selling Tier 5s.
This guide may be expanded upon in future editions. We'd love to hear any requests on what you'd like to see in the next update!
