Vitra and Midori were both keyed up and looking forward to the contest, and Vitra hoped she'd find a decent pokemon to claim at the end as she had the previous one. Midori had helped her a great deal that time, and she couldn't help but put her trust in her very first pokemon, also easily the strongest pokemon in her team. They entered the park ready for the experience, Midori trotting along at her trainer's side and already scanning the grass and trees on both sides of the path for the first bug-type they'd come across.

A venonat! It was the same purple, fuzzy bug-type she'd first encountered in the previous contest, though it wasn't exactly surprising, she supposed. Venonat were common, after all. Briefly Vitra considered her desire to catch it, before deciding against it. She could always get one later, and she was sort of hoping for something better- rarer, to save the sports balls for.
That decided, she swept her arm toward the venonat and called Midori to the attack. "Use Take Down, Midori!"
"Saur!" the grass-type agreed immediately, and she was off in the next second, hurling herself toward the smaller bug with the intent of ramming into it with all her strength behind the blow.

The bad thing about using Take Down was the damage it did to Midori too; Vitra wasn't going to use it again. Instead, as the venonat pushed itself upright and Midori took another step toward it, hardly affected by the counter attack, she decided on using another of the Ivysaur's useful attacks. "Vine Whip, Midori!" This battle couldn't last much longer, but it would still do the Ivysaur good in the leveling she needed to obtain her last evolution.

It then called out its confusion but didn't managed to convince Midori of the strangeness of it.

The Vine Whip attack didn't do nearly as much damage as Vitra had hoped, but it had done something, which meant it wasn't a complete failure. Vitra watched as the Venonat squealed, but Midori only huffed, unbothered by the shrill noise. The young trainer scuffed a shoe across the ground, considering her options, and decided it couldn't hurt to fall back on a move she knew would take energy during each move. "Leech Seed, Midori," she called, and watched as her Ivysaur did as asked.

The venonat didn't try to dodge but instead walked closer, making Midori unsure of what it wished. It kept talking about how weird this was, that Midori went from hitting hard to do less and less and in the end the ivysaur had to agree that is was strange.

The seeds connected, burying themselves into the fluff surrounding Venonat's body and doing their work in returning health lost from her earlier attack by draining it from the bug-type. Midori was doing well, and with any luck another couple attacks could end this battle. The purple bug-type took a couple steps closer to the Ivysaur, squeaking whatever it was saying, which had Midori nodding along. Uncertain what was going on, Vitra called out to her grass-type. "Use Vine Whip again, Midori!" she called, waiting for the Ivysaur to do as directed.

Why would her trainer give her something like that? The confusion clouded her mind as she slowly got her vines out and stared at them for several heartbeats. Then she whipped them over the venonat who screamed and blabbered on, not thinking the confusion had worked last time and trying to convince the ivysaur about the strangeness of the situation. Midori didn't really hear it, she was busy listening to the wind blowing through the leaves which made a very strange noise, in her oppinion at least.

It was kinda funny watching Midori under the influence of her confusion; her movements were drawn out and she weaved side to side on her short legs. But she got the attack done all the same, one more blow against the Venonat's health, and as she tipped her head at the noise of the wind moving through the leaves Vitra couldn't help a quiet laugh. "All right there, Midori?" she called, and remained thoroughly ignored. She edged a couple steps closer and called again, hoping her voice was getting through to the Ivysaur in her confused state. "Midori, Vine Whip again, okay? You can do it!"

A fist pump and a cheer as Midori managed to attack despite her obvious confusion, and the Venonat fainted, though not before getting in a hit of its own. Not nearly enough to put Midori on the defensive, and then with a hard shake of her head she seemed to snap out of her muddled state and blinked around. Volbeat swarmed in, most of them quick to take the unconscious Venonat away to recover while one remained, and Vitra was quick to take advantage of the next encounter. "Leech Seed, Midori, and then Take Down! Let's wear this one down quick!" She hadn't seen a Volbeat before; it would make a good addition to her team, provided she didn't meet anything rarer in future encounters.

Disappointment was a sharp sting- Vitra hadn't meant to make the Volbeat faint, but it had. Take Down had been too much on top of the Leech Seed. She could only watch as other Volbeat hurried back to tend to their friend, but she brightened a second later at the sight of the Grubbin. Something else she could catch! And she'd be more careful this time. "Leech Seed, Midori!" she called out, not willing to risk another attack that might prove too effective against the bug-type. On success of the seeds landing, she prepared a Sports ball to throw, fully intending to claim this one for her team.
