It had been a while since Venom had set foot in the National Park, and he was very happy to be back, smiling as he looked out over the tall grass field. However, underneath that smile was quite a bit of tension, as the memories of the ninja's previous bug catching contest were still very fresh in his mind. It may have been several years ago, but there was no way Venom could ever forget what happened last time around. And today, during this season's bug catching contest, he hoped that this would be his chance to finally finish what he started back then. Before setting foot in the tall grass, Venom took a single deep breath and clenched his fists tightly, determination filling his eyes slowly but surely. "Here we go. The time has finally come. I just hope you're still here and that you haven't forgotten me."
Venom continued to look out over the grassy field as he spoke, as the memories of his previous bug catching contest played on repeat in his head. Or, more specifically, the memories of the Pokemon he met at the very end of his previous bug catching contest played on repeat in his head. All the while, Salandit clung to Venom's shoulder, staring out at the grasslands too, before turing to face her trainer and questioning him. "Refresh my memory. Who are we looking for again, master?" Being such a young Pokemon, Salandit's memory wasn't as good as Venom's, so she was a bit confused, but knew that it must've been important, nonetheless. Thankfully, the ninja snapped out of his own little world and glanced at the one and only Pokemon he had with him at that moment, providing her with the answer she was seeking.
"The last time I competed in the bug catching contest, Arbok and I caught a Scyther, which is one of the two rarest Pokemon in this entire competition, next to Pinsir. But then, almost immediately after that, we stumbled upon a wild Shelmet as well. Though not as rare as Scyther and Pinsir, Shelmet are quite rare in this contest too, but the rules of the contest state that each trainer can only keep one of the Bug type Pokemon they capture. So, we were forced to leave the Shelmet behind. I hated to do it, but keeping the rarer of the two was the smarter decision. I did what I had to do. I promised that Shelmet that I'd come back for it, but that was several years ago."
"For all I know, that Shelmet has moved on to a new home, or has been captured by another trainer already. And even if it is still here, it's still very rare, so there's no guarantees that we'll even find it again at all. Still, there are other wild Shelmet here too, and we won't know for sure that the one from before is gone until we venture into that tall grass and see for ourselves. It's a long shot, but that's our mission today, Salandit. To track down that Shelmet, and finish what I started." Venom's voice was brimming with determination, and there was even a hint of excitement in there as well.
It was crystal clear that this ninja wasn't about to give up. No matter how narrow the odds against him were. And as it turned out, his determination was very infectious, as Salandit started to smile too, putting her own game face on. "Well then, what are we waiting for? We've gotta find that snail before somebody else does." Venom nodded right away, then got down low, slowly making his way into the tall grass and letting his ninja stealth skills take over. "Good attitude, Salandit, but we have to be quiet. Shelmet are skittish and we don't wanna scare it away if it's close by. Plus, we only get five encounters in this contest, and if we make too much noise, almost every single Bug Pokemon out here is gonna swarm all over us." Salandit returned her trainer's nod, as the two quietly made their way through the tall grass, searching for any signs of the Pokemon they had come to find.

As soon as the Trainee Pokemon came into view, Venom immediately jumped back from it, putting several yards worth of distance between them. The ninja gritted his teeth in slight frustration. Not because Nincada wasn't the Pokemon he was looking for, but rather, because he failed to see this coming. Especially after his recent tag team battle with a young wannabe ninja and his own Nincada on route 33. Pokemon themselves couldn't get much closer to an actual ninja than Nincada, and this one seemed to be highly skilled in the art of stealth. One of the three most important traits of the ninja.
Still, even though this wasn't the result that Venom was hoping for, he of all people knew just how impressive it was for any living creature to get the drop on a trained ninja like this Bug/Ground type did. Plus, given how rare Shelmet was, Venom knew that there was a pretty good chance that he and Salandit wouldn't find one at all. Be that as it may, Venom didn't want to leave the National Park empty handed. So, after Salandit climbed down off of his shoulder to meet their foe in battle, Venom reached for one of his Sport Balls and got ready to throw it. "You may not be the Pokemon we seek, but you'll do for now. Alright, Sport Ball, get it!" Using all of his skill, the ninja threw the red and white orb at the Trainee Pokemon like it was a shuriken, hitting it right in the middle of its back as a result.

SUCCESS!
Perhaps beneath the pale carapace there was a shared admiration for the duo, as once the sport ball clasped shut barely half a second passed before it chimed its success. If kept at the end of the BCC it will be added to Venom's PC. Once the capture was complete, Venom picked the Sport Ball up off the ground and Salandit crawled back onto his shoulder. "Looks like it worked. What are you gonna do with this Nincada, master?" The Toxic Lizard Pokemon asked her trainer, as he tucked away the Sport Ball containing the Trainee Pokemon into his bag for the time being. "We'll hold onto it for now, but if we find a Shelmet, we'll let it go. Either way, at least we won't leave here empty handed. That said, we still have four encounters left. So, let's see what we can find." With that, the ninja repeated his actions from earlier, kneeling down in the tall grass and trying his best to find a Shelmet before anything else found him and his fiery companion.

As Venom and Salandit made their way through the tall grass, they could hear the sounds of other trainers and their own Pokemon battling and capturing their own Bug type Pokemon for the competition. Thankfully, Venom didn't hear any Shelmet's among them. So, for the moment, it seemed like the poisonous pair were in the clear. At least, until a new, and far stronger Bug type descended upon them from above, blocking their path. Seeing that hiding was pointless, Venom rose up from the grass and eyed their second encounter of the contest. The sight of the Butterfly Pokemon made the ninja grit his teeth in frustration, but not simply because it wasn't the Pokemon he was looking for.
"Damn. A Butterfree at this level will definitely know how to use Psybeam. Not to mention Stun Spore and Sleep Powder. And it doesn't look like it'll just let us walk away. This'll be a tricky battle, Salandit." The Toxic Lizard Pokemon knew the dangers, but she still leaped off of her trainer's shoulder and stood ready to face her foe in battle. "Who cares? We can't just give up. Not so soon. Team Toxic was made for stuff like this. Isn't that right, master?" The words that came from his beloved Pokemon were all Venom needed to regain his cool, as he quickly thought up a battle plan for them. "Well said, Salandit. Our work isn't done here yet, and we're not leaving until it is. So, hit Butterfree with your Dragon Rage!" Upon hearing her trainer's command, Salandit grinned, then built up a large amount of dragonic flames in her mouth and fired them all at the Bug/Flying type.

Exactly what Venom thought would happen did happen, as Salandit lay snoozing in the tall grass. However, despite the rather difficult odds he was now facing, Venom didn't falter. Before this battle began, he had taken the time to run through several different scenarios in his head, and this was one of them. So, with that scenario in mind, he reached for another of his Sport Balls and took aim at the weakened Butterfree. "Hope this works. Sport Ball, get it!" The ninja tossed his second Sport Ball of the competition at the Butterfly Pokemon, hoping to capture it and end this battle before Salandit took any real damage. Thankfully, even though his target was in the air, his aim was still perfect, as always.

As soon as Butterfree broke free from the Sport Ball, Venom started to grit his teeth in frustration, which only grew when Salandit was hit by Butterfree's Psybeam. However, despite being hit by a super effective attack, Salandit continued to snooze away, but that Venom was surprised by this. "Damn. I thought for sure that would work. This Butterfree is tougher than I thought." The ninja said to himself, doing his best to maintain his composure. He hated to waste another Sport Ball, but at this point, he didn't really have much of a choice. So, he grabbed yet another Sport Ball, and threw it with all his might at the Bug/Flying type. "Let's see if you can handle another one!"

The growing levels of frustration were the only things that Venom and this Butterfree seemed to have in common, as the two took a moment to glare at each other after that last round. "Tch. You're certainly a stubborn one, aren't you? I don't suppose it would help if I told you that I planned on releasing you after capturing you, would it?" Venom asked the Butterfly Pokemon in a calmer tone, and he was indeed speaking the truth. While it was true that Butterfree was rarer and stronger than Nincada, the injuries that it had already received from Salandit meant that it wouldn't be worth as much as Nincada when it came to judging for the bug catching contest. Venom knew this, and only wanted to capture the wild Butterfree to end this battle and move on.
However, at this rate, Venom began to wonder if maybe Salandit would wake up before then. If it came to that, then the two of them could hit Butterfree with another Dragon Rage and end this battle that way. Still, seeing that Salandit was still sound asleep, Venom decided to give it one more try, and grabbed one more Sport Ball from his bag. "This is your last chance, Butterfree! Either this Sport Ball or another Dragon Rage! It's your choice! And Salandit, if this next Sport Ball fails, then I want you to use Dragon Rage again once you wake up!" Having made his declaration, and given out some orders, the ninja threw his next Sport Ball at the Bug/Flying type, hit it once more, then waited to see if the result would be different this time around.
OOC: One more Sport Ball used on Butterfree before the attack.

Once Venom's latest Sport Ball finally stopped shaking, he breathed a sigh of relief, glad that this encounter was finally over and done. Venom then walked over to the Sport Ball, picked it up, and stayed true to his word. "Farewell, Butterfree. Enjoy your freedom." The ninja tossed the Sport Ball up into the air, released the Butterfly Pokemon, then watched it fly off and leave him. Despite the level of frustration it caused him, Venom couldn't help smiling, happy to see that this all worked out in the end for everyone. Then, a few seconds later, Salandit finally awakened from her slumber, quickly getting back on her feet and looking around once she did. "Huh?! What happened?! Where did the Butterfree go?!"
Venom kept his smile, also happy to see that his friend was awake and well, kneeling down beside her and pulling a single Oran Berry out of his bag. "I caught it, but then I released it. I couldn't have done it without you though, Salandit. In any case, here. I know it's not much, but eat up. We still have three more encounters to go." Salandit was still feeling some pain from Butterfree's Psybeam, even though she was asleep for it, and happily devoured the Oran Berry her trainer had given her, regaining some of her lost strength. Once the berry was gone, Salandit climbed back up onto Venom's shoulder, and the two continued their search for a wild Shelmet.
OOC: Oran Berry used on Salandit before moving on. And I'm gonna choose to keep the Nincada. Thanks.
