OOC: swap baltoy for shedinja
Just when Ethan was preparing himself to leave Goldenrod City, he caught wind of a Bug Catching Competition. He debated joining it for a while, but since he had a few bug types himself like his Shedinja and Ninjask, he decided to join the competition. He decided to sign up his Shedinja, as crazy of an idea as it was. He figured that the only thing that would hit his Shedinja would be a bug type Pokemon with flying moves like a flying moth or butterfly. Not to mention, if his Shedinja did get knocked out, he'll just wait for the competition to end in the A/C area.
He got himself ready for the competition with the appropriate attire for the long grass blades. He wore long pants, shoes, and light weight long sleeved shirts. He also brought a nice hat to block the sun, along with a full bottle of water. There was no rule about that. He let out his Shedinja with him, and prepared to explore the tall grass for some buggy interaction.

When the Kricketune jumped out, Cover turned around without moving its "wings". It floated creepily and motionlessly at the other bug. Ethan turned as well, and pointed at the Kricketune. Before he could have said a word, his Pokemon was already ready to attack. Then, the Shedinja used its Shadow Sneak on the opponent, as the shadow underneath its body moved toward the opponent with strange magic. The shadowy movement on the ground moved and chased down the Kricketune without a pause or hesitation.
"That was good, Cover. Hopefully this Kricketune don't know anything that would faint you. It doesn't look like it knows anything that would do that...." He thanked his Pokemon's quick reaction, but he was still observing how the match would go. He suddenly realized that sending out his Shedinja might be a risky and dangerous idea, but this could go in either direction of good or bad. he would only have the end of this competition or his Pokemon fainting to find out!

The large red cricket’s short feet slammed against the ground like war drums. It listened to the sounds of its own foot falls with a wild and almost malicious smile. How many trainers had chased after it? How many of them tossed those strange little orange balls to try and capture it? Didn’t they know that this was the Kricketune’s homeland and that it was sick of seeing so many children and adults trying to hunt it down and steal it away from the National Park? It would show this floating shell of a cicada just why Cover had come into the wrong patch of grass. It would slam the other Pokemon so far away from its homeland, that Cover would think at least five times before ever flying a single wing back into its area! Cover floated around in the air above it as a strange and wondrous guard seemed to cloak it from all sides. Even as the small bug clung onto a singular drop of health for all of its life, it managed to hold fast to its own strengths even within its weakness. When the large red Kricketune swung its arms wildly in every directions, Cover merely floated around the other bug’s large arms as though they weren’t even there. Thick black shadows lurked on the ground below and swirled around with strange, eerie faces. They would lung up behind the Kricketune as a strange and dastardly shadow. The shadow reached out with a long arm whose form shaped into a jagged blade and slashed the Kricketune in the back. What was that?! The red bug jumped back and spun around. Who was there?! It’s large dark grey eyes narrowed suspiciously and searched throughout the grasses surrounding them. Only kids screaming and laughing in the background, followed by bugs screaming out about how they wanted to stay where they’d grown up their whole life, greeted it. It spun back around and raised a blade in Cover’s direction and jumped at the floating/flying husk of a shell, knocking it down to the ground and biting down on the shell…to do absolutely nothing to Cover at all? How could this be?! BCC Encounter

When the Kricketune started stomping its tiny little feet on the ground, Ethan immediately knew that this bug wouldn't be one to stand still and wait. Soon enough the Shedinja was close to the Kricketune. The trainer watched the battle patiently as the Kricketune's effort was wasted on the ghost Pokemon, whose weakness would be its own weakness. His eyes followed when the shadow came from under the Shedinja to strike against the Kricketune. The opponent bug would try to resist, but nothing would happen.
"Wow, you can Scratch it if you want," Ethan ordered, noting that the Kricketune was on a silver of its health, but not as silver as Shedinja's paper thin health.
The floating bug would creep around the Kricketune until it was close again. It can technically used its shadow to give a weak scratchy scratch or stalk the Kricketune from behind and poke the opponent with its claws, which was stuck in its position of the hollow husk. Either way, the Kricketune would get one poke for its ticking tunes.

After the Kricktune fainted, Ethan and Cover continued. Ethan saw that a small group was heading their way, and decided to head toward another direction in the tall grass where there's less people. The floating bug followed after him. The sound of bug Pokemon buzzing their wings and clicking their claws or mandibles could be heard everywhere. In addition, sound of other people actually screaming at the sight of some bug Pokemon they haven't seen before, or looking for their own group because they were separated in the tall grass.
Thankfully, Ethan went by himself so there's no need to worry about getting lost with his own group. He wandered around until he felt a breeze of wind, swaying the grass. He looked around as the breeze swayed to see if there's a Pokemon around. He thought he saw one, but he also wasn't going to approach it himself. He pointed at where he thought he saw one, and the Shedinja floated to investigate.

The National Park filled with small footsteps that searched through the tall grasses with their loud, excited screaming. “SCYTHER, YES!” One kid screamed in utter delight, before being absolutely demolished by the bright green bug’s long scythes. The small kid broke down wailing loudly as he kicked and punched at the ground beside his immediately fainted Pichu. Why?! WHY?! How could any bug be strong or fast enough to take out his electric mouse?! WHY?! WHY?! Why did Arceus gift such deadly speed and long blades to the elusive mantis?! Why did it escape his ball?! Two guards immediately scooped the lad and his Pokemon up and escorted him out of the park. Something else stirred in the grass, though they would all run off in different directions. The small blue Pokemon with his black back and bright yellow stripes coursing down his round abdomen sat on the top of the tall fountain and watched everyone running around in the tall grasses with mild interest. It was amusing to see the bugs taking over their homes and kicking these thousand-and-one trainers back out of the park. He snickered, placing his small bug hands over his lips with amusement as another child immediately walked through the doors and left the National Park. Then something else caught his eyes. A small and beautiful blue buggy lass that cowered down in the tall grasses as Ethan walked by them with his partner. What?! What was worse than Ethan pointing towards the beautiful blue lass that remained hidden was that he was ordering a small ‘celestial bug spirit’ around. Volbeat had heard of the rumors of Shedinja and how their souls ascended to the great spiritual plains beyond their world where no flower ever wilted, leaving behind just their husk. No human deserved the right to control such a strong and powerful deity. Volbeat zipped down from the top of the fountain in a hurry after Ethan, flying up in the lad’s face with his ’hands’ on his ‘hips’. “Excuse me!” Volbeat screamed. “Just what do you think you’re doing with our Deity and Savior, Shedinja?! Free him at once!” It demanded. BCC Encounter

A Volbeat appeared. It was chirping and buzzing about something, but Ethan wouldn't understand. However, he thought that if the bug was a little more rhythmic, it would sounded nice. Ethan looked at the bug, trying to determine if it was worth catching, and then decided to decline that thought.
"Use Shadow Sneak!" the trainer ordered, speaking calmly. After seeing the Volbeat, Ethan wondered if he should have at least caught the Kricketune, but entering this contest with a Shedinja was already the wildest thing he had done, and he didn't want to add regret of not catching Kricketune as the second wildest thing. Hopefully, something else comes along in the future.
The bug did so again, using its shadowy influence to sneakily assault the chirpy and yappy opponent. Shedinja didn't want to reply to the Volbeat, but it felt good about being mistaken as a deity. The quiet bug Pokemon would have expressed its joy, if it could make a face. However, it enjoyed being quiet and sneaky and stalky. It hovered a little lower to close in on the other bug, so as to create a bigger shadow underneath its hollow shell. When it was ready, it would strike as many times as needed on the Volbeat.

Cover rushed in with sneaky shadows that slammed the small Volbeat outta the air! Volbeat made copies of itself that appeared absolutely everywhere. But sneaky shadowy Cover knew who the real Volbeat way. With another sneaky-sneak attack of shadows, Cover took its enemy out! BCC Encounter

After the Volbeat fainted, Ethan realized that he would have three more encounters to go, and he still haven't used a single one of his Sports Ball. He was pondering all of his rash decision so far, such as knocking out the Volbeat and Kricketune too early. Out of these two encounters so far, the Kricketune would at least be more worth catching than the Volbeat. However, there's no going back in time to fix that now, he might have made a bit rash of a decision, like a gambler.
He observed to make sure the Volbeat wouldn't rise again from its unconsciousness, and then headed toward a random direction in the tall grass, hoping to stir up another Pokemon encounter. He had three to go, and he should have picked one to capture. He told himself to not be too picky, this was not the time to be a picky bug catcher! His Shedinja followed him to wherever he went next.

Ethan felt something on his right foot that wasn't the texture of grass or dirt or mud. He took his foot back and examined the ground to see a Caterpie. Yikes. Not that he had anything against a weak looking bug like Caterpie, but when he was looking for interesting bugs, he did not meant one that would evolve into a moth or butterfly. He HAS a Shedinja and Ninjask, and he was looking for something... uncommon when one would think of the word "bug".
He felt bad for the small insect, but he had to do what he must do. He ordered his Shedinja to use Shadow Sneak. He didn't think he would need that attack to be continuous. The floating bug circled around Ethan-- instead of floating above him and then over the Caterpie-- and summoned shadow either from the ground that was covered from its own shadow, or from under its hollow shell. The sneaky shadowy attack would likely send the numb little bug to the shadow realm.

Down the Caterpie went into the shadow realm. Ethan took one last look before moving on. He would probably still forget about this small bug Pokemon, but it was a one last look of attempted remembrance. Then, the young trainer continued toward the "random" direction he had chose earlier. He made enough steps to be away from the crowd, from the place he was at earlier, and from stepping on a Pokemon. The quiet Shedinja followed suit, like a silent guardian or bodyguard. Since the bug Pokemon was actually fragile to a super effective move, it would be more like neither one of these.
Even though it would be a hot summer, he could still feel the continuous breeze in the area. The gentle breeze was cool enough to alleviate the sweaty feeling he felt. The floating ghost was unmoved by the wind, remaining in place like a static stone in a motion picture. Ethan sometimes wondered why were Shedinja acting so weird.
