Spearow tilted its head and blinked several times as it turned to follow Breeze’s beak. The small flame-tailed lizard didn’t look particularly strong. Some novice trainers that ran through the route with them from the nearby routes were easily thwarted when Spearow showed them whose boss a few times with such lizards. They spouted hot embers that were easy enough for Spearow to simply skirt around on its nimble wings and were such dense little follow-the-leader types they didn’t even react when it landed on them and began to mercilessly peck their brains out. “How? Why?” It tried to understand how such a simple looking Pokemon could have scared another bird Pokemon in a previous battle. When they switched around, Spearow flapped its one good wing and pointed it at Charmander boldly. “Don’t think I’ll be a pushover, regardless what my one wing says. I don’t care what your trainer has planned. I’d never travel with weaklings. Got it, bub?” It dared, growling as loudly as it could. Cindy nodded her head silently as she listened to her hero-turned-mentor and mentally took notes whilst watching the Pokemon tussle on the ground before her. “It needs to learn not to attack humans…right?” She tried to make sense of the ‘lesson’ that Crow was instilling in the wild bird. Maybe one day she could be a hero too, if she paid close attention to how Crow managed his Pokemon battles. That would be the dream! “Will you free it after you heal it or keep it?” Cindy asked her ‘quiet’ thoughts out loud. “So tell your friend there’s no deal!” As Smolder’s embers slammed into Spearow on its good side, the bird immediately flopped on the ground dramatically. It screeched and screamed, rolling around in the dirt and grass to try and rid itself of the worst of Smolder’s flames. That really hurt! Immediately, the wild bird hopped over to Smolder, flying up only a few inches at a time while flapping its good wing, and landed on the trainer raised Charmander. It would then peck as mercilessly as it could muster to try and knock its opponent out, though it would obviously take more than that to take Smolder down. “Take this! And that! And some of this, too, you dense little lizard!” Spearow retorted haughtily as it gave its all in the fight. - Yeah... that's right. - Crow chuckled a little, answering the little girl's question, all while not taking his eyes off the Spearow. Yet another bird with a fight in it, against all odds, knowing it stood absolutely no chance of winning this fight. The pokemon's aggression and fire impressed him and he saw an opportunity to use it in Team Rocket. He then heard little Cindy mumble underneath her nose. Did she just ask if he was going to release the Spearow? - What kind of question is that? - he glanced at her, perplexed. - Absolutely not. I'm not going to do that. Pokemon on its own will never reach its potential. It needs a strong trainer to give it a direction. - Crow explained. - You see it fight. Give it some training and it's going to be a force to reckon with. - he grinned just at the thrill of the thought of what kind of pokemon Spearow could become. A fearsome one, pun unintended. Spearow's screeching and screaming brought the green-haired trainer back from Fantasy land to the reality. It had attached itself to Smolder and pecked relentlessly at him, while the young Charmander ran around, crying and trying to throw it off him. This seemed like a good que for Crow finally to toss a pokeball at it, which hit the angry bird square on the chest, dragging it inside in a bright red light. It then went down like a (thankfully light) rock, hitting Smolder on the head with a " thonk!", then landed in the grass beneath the lizard's feet. While keeping an eye on it, Crow took out a second pokeball, just in case it found a way out of the contraption.

All eyes were drawn to the Poke Ball that had (briefly) struck both the Spearow and Smolder, watching as the ball fell into the grass and began to shake and quiver. Within the ball, the Spearow was putting up the fight of its light presumably, the ball shaking and trembling under the bird's strength and fight. Perhaps Crow had a point in calling out the bird as having some kind of inherent warrior spirit to it; it had definitely put up a fight in its own right against Smolder and Breeze, that was for sure. After a few moments of the ball shaking and fighting with itself in the grass, the ball stopped its trembling. Everything seemed to pause for a moment, as if everyone was waiting for the result of what was to come from the Poke Ball. Then, there was a sudden click and the ball at the center of it flashed red for a second, confirming the capture as a success. Crow could retrieve the ball at his leisure now, hopefully satisfied with the new addition to his group of fighters. Cindy could only look in awe, clapping somewhat excitedly to celebrate the Crow's capture. She then got an idea, running over to the ball and retrieving it, handing to Crow with a bright-eyed expression. "Here you go! That was amazing! Your Charmander was so cool!" she beamed at Crow. With that, the vegetation and wildlife of the Route seemed to come back into focus for everyone. With the battle done and over with, those involved would be able to turn their attention back to other things. Now that Crow and his Pokemon weren't focused on combat, they could have a chance to appreciate the nature and wildlife bursting into life around them. More birds heard cawing in the distance, bugs making their chittering noises from the trees and bramble nearby, and the sounds of people trampling through the trees in search of battle and adventure. In short, there were plenty of options for Crow and his team to test their mettle against, should they feel so inclined.

Crow instinctively held his breath while the pokeball was shaking, only exhaling when everything was done and good. But of COURSE, everything went rather smoothly, as if there were any doubts that had it in the bag. He retrieved it from the excited girl and briefly paused, his eyes on it, smirking. Her praise was nothing but a background noise at this moment. "You best not disappoint, bird. For the glory of Team Rocket." he concluded in thought, putting the pokeball inside his backpack.
- Yeah, awesome and all, but I'd rather we moved on now. - he said nonchalantly. The Charmander rubbed his head where the ball struck him, and then looked up, awaiting some sort of praise or a pat on the head. Yet, he received nothing again. He looked at the ground dejectedly, shortly before being picked up under the arm. - You mentioned a bat. What kind of bat we're speaking of? And what direction did it fly off to? - he hastily questioned Cindy, as he'd like to get to Cherrygrove before dark. Fumbling on the road after sundown was far from his favourite activities.

Cindy was so fortunate to find a Trainer so strong and so skilled. Clearly this Crow guy must be some kind of great hero, offering to help her find her pet bat. Momma and Poppa had gone to so much trouble to get these Pokemon for her, she couldn't just let them go and run away on her like this! This hero was gonna help her get them back, uninjured. All they'd have to do is find the last of her pets. Maybe when she was old enough to start the Gym Challenge she could be strong like him. "Oh, Mr. Chomps is a whaddya call it? A Soo-bat, I think is what Poppa called it?" she said, trying to think back. These Pokemon names were so hard to keep up with, but she remembered that it had come from the cave over near Violet City. She could at least remember what Mr. Chomps looked like, thankfully. "Mr. Chomps is blue, and he has a big mouth and real sharp teeth. He's really little, too!" she said the words very excitedly, practically bouncing as she walked in her excitement. As the duo were walking, Cindy's foot found itself falling on something a bit more fleshy and solid than the dirt pathways they had been stumbling down. A Rattata had been fleeing from the bushes and tried to dart between their legs to find a place to hide. There was a real roughneck of a Trainer deeper in the woods, looking for strong Pokemon and being a real bully about it. All the wild Pokemon in the area were doing their best to put some distance between the Trainer and themselves, and now that the Rattata had been stomped on by Cindy in her excitement, it was worried that it had found its way into the path of another Trainer. Would this one be as cruel? "Hoomans! Get back or get bit!" the rat hissed, taking a defensive stance. Cindy recoiled and released her foot from where it had landed on the rat's tail, the small purple creature dashing back and taking a defensive stance against Crow and Cindy. A wild Rattata (Level 6) emerged from the grass! What will Crow do? Shiny? fz9dYBVH1-421-42

Awaiting the little girl stammer through an explanation of what her bat is, Crow just kinda looked around at nothing in particular. The small amount of patience he had was steadily running dry, and he just started. This was his very first impression of Johto. Annoying kids, annoying pokemon. Where did he go wrong to end up like that? Short answer - nowhere. It wasn't his fault. But it kept reminding him why he was there to begin with. He searched for answers about why he had been abandoned in Hoenn and what had happened to Team Rocket.
Thinking got in the way of actually hearing. He heard exactly nothing what Cindy had to say. - A Zubat. Got it. - he kinda spat, unknowingly. - You are aware Zubats don't like sunlight? Probably why it fled, looking for a dark place. - he added. Sky was getting dim and a faint breeze picked up among the trees, ruffling his already shaggy hair further. - Either way, let's find it.
They slowly walked with sticks cracking beneath their feet. Crow was scanning upper trees for the sight of unruly pokemon, so far to no avail. In the corner of his eye flashed something purple - his first thought was Ekans. While these pokemon were hardly known to be deadly to humans, who knows how a kid would react to a bite? And yelling, crying and dying kid was the last thing Crow wanted to have on his hands. - Watch it, it's— he hopelessly watched, as Cindy stepped on the purple pokemon, ready to throw the Charmander at it in case it attacked. But it turned out to be a scared Rattata. - ... a rat. You sure are lucky. - he said, releasing a sigh of relief. Just another annnoying pokemon. He reached into his backpack, taking out a pokeball he stole earlier from the adoption centre. - Time for you to make yourself useful, Typhoon. - from it, a small Spearow emerged flying. It glared at Rattata with purpose. "Hah! Stand down, pitiful creature! Boss ain't playin'!" - it crowed arrogantly. - Go, attack it from the sky, while Smolder gets it from the ground. Let's make it short, sweet and easy. - the man waved his hand dismissively. "Gotcha, boss! Don't mess it up, lizard, ya hear?!" - Typhoon screamed at Charmander, then dived at Rattata talons first, while Smolder jumped down and sent a fireball at its feet.

Cindy’s eyes lit up when Crow seemed to understand exactly who her missing Pokemon partner was. She jumped on the tips of her feet and spun around while clapping her hands. “Yess! Sooobat!” She repeated, trying to imitate his words exactly like her dad had been teaching her to say. That’s why she gave them all nicknames, wasn’t it? To make calling them out easier on her in the long run? But when Crow asked her a simple question about Zubat’s behavior, her face dropped suddenly. “Mr. Chomps doesn’t like light?...But we sunbathe all the time in my backyard!” She protested firmly. The Rattata’s attack hurt. It caused large tears to swell up in the corners of her eyes. Cindy immediately darted behind her knight in shining armor and pointed from behind him at the small purple rodent. “Owweee owwwcchiiiee! Pease teach that meanie a big lesson!” She stated, trying to sound big and tough though it was obvious she was just a scared little child underneath. “It needa learn never mess with us! Right?” She asked, staring up for approval from Crow for her attitude. It didn’t feel like her though…but wasn’t that how heros reacted to bad guys? …Even bad Pokemon…? Rattata stared at its two opponents with confusion as the bird swooped down from the skies above it and the lizard appeared. Since when did these humans send out two Pokemon to fight it at once?! It turned to the lizard, half expecting Smolder to be nothing short of a distraction, and slapped its tail in Smolder’s face. When the flame-tailed tyrant shot out hot embers after the small rodent, it would dodge them at first and race around Smolder at the tips of its nimble feet. It slammed into the scaly orange reptile from the side, trying to topple Smolder over unsuccessfully, as it was evident that it would take more than that to take Smolder out. Then the flames came – burning hot fires that singed its fur from all directions! Owch, owch, owch! Hot, hot, hot! “That hurt, ya know! Why are you both fighting?! As much as Smolder tried, he just couldn't quite get a good aim at the purple rodent, himself being still quite inexperienced. His attempt was only partly successful - the flames definitely reached the Rattata, but a small spark made its way to Typhoon's tail, causing the tip of his tail-feather to catch fire. The bird panicked, flapping its wings and flying in circles in an attempt to put out the fire. " AHHH! Not my tail, not my tail! It's my favourite feather, too!" Spearow cried. Smolder put his little paws up to his mouth, shocked and embarrassed, lines of black smoke coming out of his every nostril. He glanced at his trainer - Crow was not happy. - What was that supposed to be?! Smolder! - he scolded the young lizard pokemon. He realized he shouldn't have been so trusting - Smolder was still learning, so he couldn't rely solely on Smolder's power. Yet, he was the closest to being competent thus far. Crow then glanced over his shoulder at little Cindy, who was cowering behind him and learning some of his bad habits. He was having a negative influence on a child... which is a good thing. Teach them early. - Damn right, teach the vermin to stay in its lane. - he murmured, then took his gaze back to the battlefield. Hysterical Typhoon eventually managed to put out his tail from burning, leaving one feather ruined. Everything was dandy. - Typhoon, hold the thing in place. Smolder, Scratch it. Aim. For. The. Rat. - Crow said, accenting each word slowly. "I'm on it!" Typhoon swooped in on the purple rodent, clutching its tail with his talons and tried to pick it up... but, as much as he tried, he could only manage to get the mouse's backside a bit off the ground. "Do it right THIS time! Idiot lizard!" Spearow crowed, signalling Charmander to attack. Smolder pounced towards them and slashed at Rattata with its tiny claws.

Typhoon's claws gripped tight under the leg pits of the purple rodent, holding it steadily in place. As much as the normal type Pokemon struggled, it just couldn't break the grip. After all, Spearow were predator Pokemon, it did make sense that her talons would be able to hold some kind of grip. <Leggoooo! Ya'll are cheatin'> the rat wailed, still in disbelief that it managed to find a human who was dishonorable in this kind of fashion. Unfortunately, Typhoon did just enough with positioning the rat for her teammate that when the rat looked up, all it saw was the glowing claws of the Charmander coming right at it. The sharp claws of the fire lizard raked right across the belly of the upraised rat, causing a red and angry slice to appear in the white belly fur. The reaction was so intense that it broke the hold of the talons, collapsing to the ground. Holding its belly, the rat moaned and cried for a second, before slowly getting up onto its paws. It wasn't steady at all, in fact it swayed quite liberally. However, credit where credit is due, the Pokemon got back up and didn't give up. Suddenly, the Rattata dashed forward and lowered its shoulder, plowing Smolder and knocking him to the ground. The rattata then used the moment to put some distance between both of the human's Pokemon, its hackles raised and its fur on end. Watching the whole time, Cindy was confused. Tugging lightly on Crow's pant leg, she looked up. "Um....Daddy says you fight one at a time. Are you cheating?" she asked, with all the wide eyed curiosity of a child. "Hah! Told'cha boss isn't playin'! Yer own fault!" Typhoon cackled joyfully. Smolder clearly wanted to be somewhere else instead, kinda shifting his tiny paws at his chest. "Hey, what's that look fer?! We're winnin'!" Spearow flew up to the young Charmander and tapped his head with his beak. Smolder just sighed and turned his gaze towards his trainer, awaiting the next move.
Crow snickered at Cindy's words. - Cheating? Hah, who's gonna judge, trees? - he turned with the look of pity at the child. - Wild pokemon constantly fight like that, it's a battle royale out there. - he grinned, taking out the red-white ball out of the backpack pocket. - Aight, hold it again, Typhoon. - the bird once more dived towards the wounded pokemon, putting his talon on the Rattata's head and forcing it down to the ground. "Yer lucky! Boss is gonna make somethin' out of ya! Ya should be grateful!" Typhoon said menacingly, with a low tone in the rodent's ear. Crow then threw the pokeball at the rat, aiming square between the eyes. He then paused, waiting for it to either lock itself or break - hopefully the former. Money didn't grow on trees and the way things were going, he might run out of the damned things.

"Hol--" The Rattata wanted to say something, but was quickly hit in the head by the Pokeball. It disappeared into a different dimension. The ball dropped to the ground and began rolling as anticipation built on the success of its capture. Surprisingly, it shook once before sounding a DING! to signal its success. The Rattata did not give much of a struggle against the capture. After the Pokemon was captured, Cindy spoke up again. "How do you know wild Pokemon fight like that? Are you a scientist?" She asked curiously, uncertain of the young trainer's answer. After Crow had picked up his newly captured Pokeball, the girl would ask again to follow up her quest. "Where do you think Mr. Chomps went? I hope he's not scared!" She questioned, concerning her Pokemon's safety.

Crow looked at Cindy, mulling over what to say. Had the stupid pride not gotten in the way, he'd just leave the kid alone and go his way, but nooo! He just HAD to prove what a skilled tracker he was! He just HAD to find the stupid Zubat. It started to become personal. - No scientist. I just caught a lot of pokemon before. - the trainer shrugged, rolling his eyes. He felt a subtle buzz in his pocket. Wait a second... - Frankly, I have no idea where Chomps is. Come'ere, Trojan. - a black-and-red Rotom phone flew out in the open and floated in front of Crow. Typhoon puffed up his feathers. " What the heck is dat?! I hate it!" his wings were spread menacingly, his gaze fixed on the unusual hovering object. Smolder opened his arms, unable to explain anything to the fuming bird. Crow in the meantime, was typing something on the phone. - Here's another fun fact - Zubats live in huge colonies, almost never alone. Alright, pop up Mewtube... Okay. So, here's the plan. - he positioned the Rotom high above his head. - If we can't find the Zubat, we'll have the Zubat come to us. I doubt he flew far in the daytime. I also suggest y'all cover your ears. - Typhoon and Smolder did so, with wings and hands respectively. Crow then looked up. - Blast us some Zubat noises, Trojan! Max volume! - he commanded, covering his own ears with hands. Trojan then began playing a video featuring a wild Zubat colony. The shrill noise made the grass and leaves move back. Even with ears covered, it was already quite piercing, but it was excruciatingly painful if heard it at full volume to anyone who was not a Zubat. Crow scanned the area, fully expecting Mr. Chomps to show up at any moment. Cindy's eyes grew wide as she saw the flying machine and for a moment fear and awe fought to rule her mood, but as Crow was with her and had summoned it, awe won in the end. "That's 'mazing! What is it? Did you make it?" She asked excitedly and bounced up and down, she reached a hand for it but then withdraw it as if it had burned her, before even getting close. "Is it dangerous?" she asked him a bit warily, with an uncertain smile. She was quick to do as ordered and cupped her ears with her hands, and grinned a bit uncomfortably as the zubat shrieks got blasted over the area. The sounds of the grass rustling was impossible to hear, and even hard to see as the noise sent the soundwaves rolling through, but something was approcahing. A bit too low perhaps to be a zubat, or else it should have been crawling on the ground. A purple nose stuck through the grass and twitched, a moment later the whole head through the tuff of grass. It's little squeak was lost in the blast of zubat screeches, and with its ears down and painful eyes it was clearly bothered by it, but it couldn't turn back. It's sister had been here just a moment ago, and she protected it and was its whole world. Hearing nothing but muffled screeches of several Zubats, Crow focused only on looking up, not paying much attention around him. No sign of the bloodied thing at all... Well, obviously, if he was that Zubat forced to sunbathe every day, he'd also want to run as far away as possible. But the job's a job and the potential of getting paid is too hard to turn down. That and pride. Admittedly, he was starting running out of ideas should this not work. Taking step after step, his leg has touched something soft, almost tripping over it, not expecting to hit anything. - What the-?! - he jumped away, taken by surprise. Another Rattata! What joy, as if he didn't catch one mere minutes ago. Oh well, a pokemon is a pokemon. - Typhoon! Get that thing! - he yelled out and awaited a reaction. Nothing. Typhoon sat in the grass curled up with its ears still covered and eyes closed. - Typhoon! TYPHOON! STUPID CRETIN BIRD! - his scream gradually became louder, but to no effect. - CUT IT OUT, TROJAN! - annoyed, he picked the Rotom phone from above his head after it stopped giving everyone a headache and walked over to the Spearow, still unaware of what's going on. Crow then put his foot underneath and pushed him, causing him to fall over. "Wut? Ha? Wut happen'd?" the bird looked around, confused. The trainer merely pointed at the purple critter. "Ahhh! I got dis, boss!" he flapped his wings and charged at the rat, beak first. [OOC: sending in Typhoon and using Peck 250 word to poochy egg]

Cindy watched in wonder at the way that Crow talked and interacted with his Pokemon. Was it normal for such experienced Trainers to behave with their Pokemon like this? Was this how they inspired such loyalty in their teams? Crow hadn't been proven wrong just yet, so he was clearly some kind of expert Trainer. Maybe if she started talking to her pets like this, they wouldn't run away or stop doing what she wanted them to do so often. All she'd have to do is figure out how to come up with all those clever words and sayings that Crow seemed to come up with. She had no idea what a cretin was, but it sounded like a lot of fun to say! Meanwhile, the Rattata continued seeking out its lost big sister. Big sis had always been the fighter and the protector of the two of them, and now she was gone. And now all it had found in her place was a human and his strange little bird. The Rattata charged forward at the bird, lashing out in reaction to what it was sure was some kind of declaration of war. Why were so many Pokemon jumping at the chance to listen to the humans? It made no sense that they would listen to these big, creepy creatures and their weird soft-looking pelts. This little Rattata had always let itself be lead by its sister, and things had been just fine...until she up and vanished, anyway. As the rat sank its teeth into the feathery body sitting before it, Typhoon was given ample opportunity to land an attack of his own. A series of quick jabs and pecks from his curved beak caused the rat to release its grip, screeching out in pain as it tried to put some distance between itself and the bird. It was surprised at the bird's speed being able to match its own, as it had expected the bird to be lazy and groggy given its slow-to-start demeanor. The Rattata lowered itself to the ground, hissing and letting its fur bristle as it prepared for the next round of combat.
