After many months of waiting, the time had finally come once again. A time when all of Johto a buzzing with activity. Literally. Yes, everyone truly enjoyed the Bug Catching Contest, whether they took part in it or not. However, for some trainers, this competition had run its course and had nothing left to offer them. One such trainer was Venominon Ouroboros. Highly trained ninja and expert on all things poisonous. He had entered the Bug Catching Contest several times in the past, and except for the possibility of winning some nice rewards, Venom had no real reason to compete in this event.
Even his good friend, Shinya Stinger, who specialized in Bug type Pokemon, didn't have a reason to compete in this competition. At least, that used to be the case. Not too long ago, Shinya got in touch with Venom and informed the ninja that he had met with a broker just a few short weeks ago. Shinya didn't give him all the details, but the gist of it was simple enough. In short, Shinya was looking to acquire a Sizzlipede for his team of Bug type Pokemon. Unfortunately, that particular Bug type Pokemon was not native to Johto. Not even during this event where Bug types gathered.
However, the broker offered Shinya the chance to trade for this fine and rare Bug type Pokemon. And what the broker was seeking was the Butterfly Pokemon, Butterfree. Neither Shinya nor Venom was sure why such a common Bug type could be exchanged for such a rarity, but if that's what they wanted, then they'd get it. Unfortunately, Shinya was a bit tied up dealing with Team Rocket to compete in the contest himself, so he asked Venom to do it in his stead. Naturally, Venom agreed, headed for the National Park, and called out his trusty Salandit. The Toxic Lizard Pokemon crawled up onto her trainer's shoulder, then the two headed off into the tall grass in search of a Butterfree. Or at least a Metapod.

With so many Bug type Pokemon roaming the area, it didn't take long for the poisonous pair to find their first foe. Unfortunately, as close as Caterpie was to their target species, it wasn't quite close enough. Still, with only five encounters per trainer in this contest, Venom didn't really have the luxury of being picky. So, the ninja grabbed one of his Sport Balls, narrowed his gaze on the small Bug type Pokemon, and threw it with all of his strength. Venom's aim was straight and true, but Salandit was still ready to act, should this capture fail. Hopefully, luck would be on their side moving forward.
OOC: One Sport Ball used on Caterpie.

SP26 Caterpie breaks out and uses String Shot!While caterpie was certainly not what he had hoped for, it could certainly have been worse. Caterpie was at least a part of the evolution line he was looking for, and he could have been so unlucky to just run into weedles and wurmples all the time. the caterpie in question had been as quiet as it possible could, loving to see the trainers walk straight past them without even knowing it was there! Venom was no ordinary trainer though and he quickly spotted the hiding bug, who couldn't completely suppress its giggles, and he flung a sport ball at it. Caterpie's eyes widened and with a grin it popped up from the grass and spewed sticky threads everywhere, it stopped the ball which really got tangled into and stuck to the grass, but as the caterpie had just sent it out randomly, some of it landed on Salandit as well. This was definitely not the outcome Venom and Salandit were expecting, as the two stared at the wild Caterpie dumbfounded for a moment. It seemed as though the element of surprise sometimes had its downsides as well. However, Team Toxic was tenacious to say the least, and weren't about to give up. They came for a Butterfree, and they weren't leaving without one. And since this Caterpie was already at a fairly high level, it was close enough. So, after literally burning the threads off of her body, Salandit narrowed her eyes at the Worm Pokemon and tried giving it some extra incentive to stay in the next Sport Ball her trainer threw at it.
"That was a lucky shot, Caterpie, but if I were you, I'd stop resisting. It's either the Sport Ball, or this." The orange pattern on Salandit's back and tail lit up, as some flames could be seen inside her mouth, ready to fire right at the wild Bug type. "So, take your pick." Not wanting to waste anymore ammo, Venom quickly took advantage of Salandit's intimidation tactic, grabbing another Sport Ball from his bag. "You heard her, Caterpie. I don't wanna hurt you, but we have a mission to complete, and it involves you. Besides, if you come with us, we'll help you evolve into a Butterfree. So, let's try this again!" Before Caterpie could regain its focus and fire another round of String Shot, the ninja threw the red and white orb right at the small Pokemon, hoping for a successful capture this time around.
OOC: Let's give the Sport Ball another try.

Upon witnessing another failed capture attempt, both Venom and Salandit were beginning to get a little annoyed. Just a little though. "Rgh! Are you kidding me right now?! Master, what the heck are you doing?!" Salandit yelled at Venom, while the purple-haired trainer was taking some deep breaths, trying to regain his composure. "I'm sorry. I'm just not used to hitting such small targets, especially in such tall grass." Salandit let out a sigh, burning all the threads off of her body for a second time, before she and Venom listened to Caterpie's plead for mercy and saw the tears in the small Pokemon's eyes. Admittedly, Venom did take at least some pity on the Bug type and let out a sigh of his own before addressing it.
"Believe me, Caterpie, I take absolutely no pleasure in this. I really do wish I could just look the other way and let you continue on with your everyday life. Unfortunately, as I told you before, I have a mission to complete. So, unless you can point me in the direction of any Metapods or Butterfrees in the area, I'm afraid I can't just let you go." The ninja explained to the Worm Pokemon, then grabbed yet another Sport Ball from his bag, taking one more deep breath as he gripped the sphere in his right hand. "One more time! Sport Ball, go!" Once again, a Sport Ball flew right out of Venom's hand, heading straight for the wild Caterpie. Venom and Salandit watched with bated breath, hoping that this one would do the trick.
OOC: I've never been one to give up so easily. One more try.

Caterpie tasted Salandit, and it was spicy and bitter and dry with a hint of salt-- that's probably sweat-- but technically worse than a jerky. BCC Encounter

Even though Salandit barely felt Caterpie's attempt at an attack, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon was definitely starting to get annoyed. And if Venom was being honest, so was he. Was this contest rigged or something? Since when were Caterpies so difficult to catch? True, this one wasn't weakened at all, but surely it didn't have this much fight in it. Still, this may have been a bad move on the Worm Pokemon's part. If Venom's luck was proving to be this bad, then he was definitely more inclined to capture this Pokemon than he was to try his luck in searching for another one. So, once again trying his luck, the ninja tossed another of his Sport Balls at the wild Caterpie.
OOC: Oh, come on! How can a person's luck be THIS bad?! Gimme a break! Here's another Sport Ball! Now c'mon, low number! Work with me, RNG, ya jerk!

It was strange so much resiliance this caterpie showed, especially since it was shaking like a leaf and kept begging to not be burned. Perhaps it was simply pure adrenaline that did it? Or perhaps it thought the pokeball would burn it too? Whatever the case time was on Venom's side, and finally, finally! It stayed inside when he threw the ball. If kept at the end of the BCC it will be added to Venom's PC. When the latest Sport Ball finally stopped shaking, both Venom and Salandit breathed a heavy sigh of relief, glad that this ordeal was finally over. "Urgh!...FINALLY! What the heck was up with that Caterpie? Was it actually a stronger bug disguised as a Caterpie or something?" Salandit questioned, crawling back over to Venom and taking her place back on his right shoulder. Before answering, Venom watched as the Sport Ball was transported to his PC, then gave the back of his head a few scratches. "Nope. It was a Caterpie alright. Either we were just really unlucky, or the Bug types around here have been getting a lot stronger as of late."
The Poison type trainer really hoped that it was the latter, rather than the former. If so, that was good news for him and Shinya as well. "We can ponder that later though. For now, let's just focus on the contest. We've achieved our goal, but there's still plenty of time to search for a Metapod or Butterfree. So, assuming the worst of our luck is behind us, let's keep looking." Venom continued to walk around the tall grass, searching for his and Salandit's next insectoid adversary. "Okay, but if any of these bugs give us even half as much trouble as that Caterpie did, then I'll show them the true meaning of extra crispy." The Toxic Lizard Pokemon commented, with some very obvious frustration still present in her voice, and some embers present in and around her mouth.

The sound of another wild Pokemon's voice captured the attention of the poisonous pair almost immediately, as they both turned in the direction of the voice and eyed their second encounter of the day. And as soon as he laid eyes on the wild Poison/Bug type, big sparkles filled Venom's eyes right away, as he quickly approached said Poison/Bug type. "Wow! A Venonat! You certainly are a fine-looking Poison type! And you've got a lot to say, don't you?!" There was some very obvious excitement all over Venom's face, as well as in his voice, as the rest of the world seemed to disappear at this very moment. Fortunately for the ninja, he had another Poison type Pokemon on his shoulder to pull him back to reality. Which is exactly what Salandit did, tugging on Venom's ear and shouting into it too.
"Hey, master! Snap out of it! I know how much you love poisonous Pokemon, but don't forget about the mission! We still have to take that annoying little Caterpie to the broker!" Thankfully, Salandit's reminder did the trick, as Venom shook his head, returned to his senses, and jump backwards, putting some distance between himself and the wild Venonat. "Right. Of course. Sorry, Venonat. I do love your kind, but sadly, you're not the Pokemon we came here for. Even so, we're always ready for a battle. Salandit, use Ember!" Still frustrated after their bout with Caterpie, Salandit smirked, very eager to blow off some steam. "With pleasure. Have a taste of this, furball!" Opening her mouth up wide, Salandit channeled all of her frustrations into her flames, then let them all fly straight towards the Insect Pokemon.

Although the victory came easily to the venomous duo, they were both still pleased with it, especially after Salandit gained a boost in power as a final result. "Ah! Heck yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about! It's been way too long since my last level up!" The Poison/Fire type said with a satisfied tone and smirk, crawling back up onto her master's shoulder. The two then continued on, searching the National Park for more Bug type Pokemon, since they still had plenty of time and all. "That was nice work, Salandit. You should be close to evolving by now, but you'll have to keep battling for that to happen." Venom commented, very excited by the thought of gaining a Salazzle on Team Toxic. "I'm ready for anything! Bring it on! Who's next?!" Salandit replied, licking her jaws with her toxic tongue in anticipation of day when that moment will finally arrive.
