As yet another Sport Ball met it's untimely demise at the scythes of the talented Scyther Marchbaby began to worry that he might not even capture it at all at this rate. This next ball would take him to only two thirds of his original stock and the Scyther still showed no signs of allowing itself to be captured at all. Though luck eas still clearly not on his side Marchbaby was not about to give up as Shocker still remained in very good health laughing off all of the Scyther's strikes like they were a spitball striking a brick wall. If only the rest of the battle was going his way he might feel a bit more confident.

" I think I can kiss winning the contest goodbye at this rate. Just capturing this Scyther is going to be enough of a prize for me at this point. What I wouldn't do to be allowed to use an Ultra Ball right now as thry would at least be slightly more useful in this situation." As the young dragon tamer quickly dug through his backpack frantically trying to find another one he had a feeling he would have to get creative with his throws if he was going to have any prayer of things going his way at this point.

As Shocker continued to stare down it's foe as determined as ever to buy Marchbaby as much time as he needed Marchbaby knew the Magnezone's efforts would be for naught if he ran out of balls before capturing the Scyther. He k ew he could try his luck with another encounter if things got bad enough but a shiny Scyther who put him through such a test was a hard prize to give up and he could not bring himself to run so long as any hope remained of getting it as a consolation prize.

" Still as tough as ever, I won't lie this is testing my patience but I am not about to let you win until all else fails. I still have a chance of capturing you and I will ride that chance to the bitter end if I must. Shocker stay vigilant as I have a feeling this is going to take a lot longer than I dreamed it would." He then tossed a curveball aimed straight for the Scyther's head hoping the angle might give him a better chance of getting lucky this time.

As yet another Sport Ball broke open Marchbaby started to wonder just how many times this Scyther had broken out of capture attempts in the past. He could tell that this bug was quite determined to stay free but Marchbaby knew such a determined bug could be such a great addition to his team. This latest attempt had been so close to a capture that he hoped maybe trying to repeat the previous curveball strategy as that seemed to be by far the most effective strategy so far. With him now going through a third of his stock he had to get lucky soon or else he would be in a lot of trouble.

" Argh so close, this Scyther really is something else. I do not recall the last bug type that resisted captures so well. It is trying to compete with Jelly for escape artist of the year at this rate. I have so much invested in this Scyther already I cannot believe I still need to try more but I will keep trying regardless." At this point he would be happy with any entry at all but this shiny Scyther was really making that goal super hard to meet at this point.

With his goal of winning the contest just about out the window by now all he could do was hope Shocker could keep enduring attacks so that he would not have to invest healing items in this battle as well. If he had to invest anything else in this battle besides the free Sport Balls he might have to resort to begging for handouts to replace his losses. As Shocker got ready to endure another hit Marchbaby prepared to toss another Sport Ball hoping Arceus would finally show him a bit of mercy after trying for so long.

" Arceus please help me, this battle has been a huge test of my patience by now and I would love to have such a determined Scyther join me. This Scyther would be a great partner for any of my dragons once they evolve with it's combination of determination and skill." He then tossed another curveball aimed right at Scyther's face as even Shocker started growing tired of all the failed capture attempts. The Magnezone could easily put an end to this battle at any time but it did not dare strike the impressive Scyther knowing how badly Marchbaby wanted to capture it.

As yet another Sport Ball failed to capture Scyther Marchbaby started to grow increasingly worried. He had nearly used half his initial stock and yet Scyther still had not been captured. To make matters even worse most the the sounds of other trainers in the park had gone away now making it quite clear his time to catch something before the contest came to an end was very quickly running out. Even with the very real threat of Scyther getting away Marchbaby kept hoping his luck would finally take a turn for the good again.

" This battle has been ongoing for such a long time, most of the others seem to have their entries already. At this point I might not even have time to capture this Scyther unless this awful luck finally goes away. Boy do I really regret not having more status moves in a situation like this." He then reached into his backpack to find one of the precious Sport Balls he still had left. If this attempt failed he would have used almost half of his supply in a single battle and that was not good at all.

Still he had zero doubt that he would catch anything as special as a shiny Scyther so he knew he had to keep investing in trying to capture this one. He had already used so much time and effort to get it that walking away now would be an absolute waste. At the same time not capturing the Beedrill or Dustox he had encountered earlier was looking like a bad idea as he would have at least had something to enter in the contest as a backup. It was too late now to undo that mistake but he could keep hoping that Scyther would decide to come along with him.

" I dare say I never thought you would put up this much of a fight. You have more than proven your worthiness by now but I am still going to keep trying to convince you to join me. A mighty creature such as yourself would be a worthy addition of any trainer. As strong as you already are I can make you even stronger if you come along with me." He then tossed yet another Sport Ball at Scyther before rubbing his arm which by now had grown sore from so many capture attempts. If things kept going this way he might need to use his other arm for a while.

Marchbaby was not shocked at all as yet another Sport Ball was broken out of. Scyther by now had easily claimed the title of hardest Pokemon for him to capture but that only made him want to capture the bug that much more. This next ball would put him under half his supply and with no way to get any more for the contest he really hoped that one of his remaining Sport Balls would defy the odds and finally capture this Scyther. He felt like taking bets on whether he would capture it at this point to try and make something of his awful luck so far.

" Lady luck must have a grudge against me right now. I do not know who I have angered to such a degree to have such awful luck but somehow I need to turn this awful luck around and very soon. Shocker you are still doing great but let me know if you start to take too much damage as at this point investing healing items is easily worth it if we can somehow capture this Scyther." As he dug around his backpack he took out all of the healing items he had just in case he needed to use them before he started to look for another Sport Ball.

He fully expected Scyther to break out again as Sport Balls were apparently not very good at capturing full health Scyther at all. Even with their terrible performance in this battle they were his only option until Shocker needed to heal and he had no choice but to keep tossing them hoping just one would finally get him a saving throw of the dice or he ran out and had to watch such an amazing creature make off after so much effort. He hoped it did not come to that but things were not looking very good for him at all.

" A Net Ball would be wonderful by now or even a Master Ball, even a Safari Ball would likely be of more use about now. I am so glad I did not bring a younger Pokemon this time as there is no way they could last so long against a Scyther like this." With almost no faith in the world Marchbaby switched to his other arm and tossed the Sport Ball in a curveball style aiming right between it's eyes again fully expecting yet another failure.

As he had predicted the Scyther managed to break free with almost no effort at all. He had officially used over half of his stock of Sport Balls and still had nothing to show for it. Despite his awful luck so far things were not entirely hopeless as he still had some Sport Balls left and he might still somehow defy the odds before he ran out. Despite the lowered defense Shocker was still in good shape as well so for now Marchbaby could afford to keep trying his luck for the time being. Ashe took a deep breath he started to look for two more Sport Balls in his backpack as Shocker still acted as bait for the shiny Scyther.

" I know this Scyther has the broken ball record now, if I somehow still manage to capture it that will only make it all the more impressive of a catch despite the contest being all but an afterthought by now. I am not even sure if I will capture it but with so much time and effort invested I do not care how I place in the contest now." By now he knew he was the last contestant left still searching but he was surprised by how much time still officially remained.

Time was flying by but not quite as fast as he first though. If he could get a lucky capture he might be able to encounter two more Pokemon after this battle but at the rate things were going that was a big if as Scyther the breakout master seemed to have other plans with every attempt Marchbaby made. Marchbaby finally found the two Sport Balls he was looking for and despite knowing if both failed he would be down to a third of his original stock his mind was fully set on riding this battle out.

" Like before I do not have much faith in these Sport Balls but I might as well try them back to back and hope one of them gets lucky. They are free for a reason as they do not work very well at all. I would not even want to pay a penny for these things." Now that his arm had stopped hurting for a bit he took advantage of that fact and tossed both of the Sport Balls fully expecting Scyther to break out of both of them as it had so many times before.

As if Marchbaby were becoming psychic as predicted the Scyther continued to break out of every Sport Ball Marchbaby tossed at the bug. With just 5 balls left, just a third of his original stock his hopes of capturing Scyther continued to spiral downwards. As bleak as things were looking now Shocker was still hanging in there and for now still did not need any healing so Marchbaby could keep trying to break his streak of awful luck. As much as he doubted he was going to break it he refused to stop trying so long as he had any hope of success.

" Boy, oh boy, this Scyther is the Houdini of it's species for sure. I thought my luck had been amazing encountering a shiny of it's species but so far this encounter has been nothing short of a curse. I sure wish we could select the balls we brought to the contest ad I would never touch these Sport Balls again." He then started to look for two more Sport Balls to use against the Scyther despite his faith in the balls being almost zero at this point. As he did that Shocker tried to maintain it's focus as it's physical defense had fallen quite a bit from two Leer attacks.

The experienced Magnezone continued to try and buy Marchbaby as much time as it could but if this capture attempt failed it might need Marchbaby to use some healing items on it as it did not know how much longer it would last if it's defenses dropped anymore. After a few more seconds Marchbaby finally found two more Sport Balls and got ready to throw them at Scyther. Before he did however he decided to change his tactics this time trying to catch Scyther off guard.

He decided to toss the first ball as a curveball like usual but then toss the second one aimed dead center as a fastball. Scyther were fast but he hoped not fast enough to break out of two different throws so quickly. " Shocker let's hope this time is the charm. If these Sport Balls fail we will only have three of them left to try and capture this admirable Scyther. I sure hope this plan works or we will need divine intervention to capture Scyther at this rate. He then tossed the first ball and readied the second one if the first one failed to capture Scyther.

The trick of two balls flying at it at once did the trick. The quick movement of the ball flying straight at it had the sycther lifting a claw to bat it out of the way, while the curve ball smacked into from the side. The ball only gave a single shake before falling still.

As the Sport Ball finally clicked shut Marchbaby thought a ghost type Pokemon was playing a trick on him as he did not think what he had witnessed was real. He was thrilled beyond words once he realized what he had witnessed was indeed real. After catching his breath for a moment he yelled out in relief that he had finally defied the odds and captured the mighty Scyther at least. " YES, FINALLY SCYTHER IS MINE" He then looked over at Shocker who was thrilled the madness was over as well. He still had time for two more encounters and dared nit waste them in case another miracle happened but he had already picked out a nickname for the Shiny Scyther in case nothing matched it.

" I am going to call our new friend Triumph as she was quite successful in both testing my patience and at destroying Sport Balls. I have a feeling her and Clamps will get along great. She should also be a huge help in the next trial so I think we will see just how strong she is soon. Now that we have finally ended that affair let's look around and see if fate will somehow hand us another jackpot before the end of the contest."

As he started to look for something else Marchbaby put the healing items back into his backpack for now as Shocker managed to regain it'a defense after the battle. Despite the drawn out affair Triumph had barely put a dent in it's armor and now it could focus on trying to help Marchbaby look for anything that might rival a shiny Scyther in the Bug Catching Contest. The good news was with literally no other trainers around it would be a bit easier to sneak up on any bug type who did not expect any trainers to still be out and about.

" Even if fate is not kind again Triumph is more than worthy as a consolation prize. Still I hope Shocker can get a bit more experience before the end of this contest. I can finally say skipping the Dustox and Beedrill earlier was the right choice in the end as I may have run out of Sport Balls had I tried to catch either of them first." As soon as he finished speaking he heard something in the distance and got ready just in case it was something that would rival Triumph's grace.
