Magnet Vs the Swarm (BCC)

As Marchbaby reached the entry gateway to the National Park he was quite excited to get started in the Bug Catching Contest. He already knew he wanted to bring Shocker along as the Magnezone was quite sturdy and was such a high level few of the bug types could pose a threat to it allowing Marchbaby to focus on trying to capture a good bug type. He already had a number of bug types but he figured something from the contest had to be useful. As he left his other Pokemon at the gate Marchbaby started to walk towards the grass with Shocker by his side.

" I am quite curious to see what bug types we will encounter. It will also help you grow even stronger as there is quite a bit of time for us to find a good prize. Just be ready in case something unexpected does jump out." Once they reached the grass the sounds of other ongoing battles echoed through the air and Marchbaby hoped the loud noises would not scare away too many of the good bug types. He could make out a few of the bug types by the sounds they made in the nearby battles and by the sound of things he would need a really good bug type to have any hope of winning the contest.

" I have no doubt a few trainers have already ran into quite an impressive find so we are going to have to get lucky to have any real hope. Thankfully we have a number of tries to encounter something strong so we do not have to get lucky right away. Still hitting the jackpot on the first encounter is never a bad thing if we can get lucky enough." Just as he finished speaking Shocker started to spin it's magnets to build up power in case their first encounter was not worth capturing as the battle hardened Magnezone could still gain experience from a battle if luck was not on their side.

As Shocker got ready the sounds of numerous bug type Pokemon got closer and closer and Marchbaby grabbed one of his Park Balls so he could throw it if the first encounter was worth it. Either way he knew the first encounter could come at any moment and he did not want to be unprepared for any scenario as he stood and waited to see which bug was going to be brave enough to jump out first.

Several bugs did came closer, but the moment they spotted the big and imposing magnezone they turned tail and fled. Much better to try their luck somewhere else with something not as god-like looking as this contestant!
A dustox, half blind from a sandstorm started somewhere else in the park fluttered over by accident and didn't notice Shocker before it had practically bumped into them. It did not look happy with its find.

As the Dustox practically bumped into Marchbaby and Shocker the dragon tamer had little doubts it would take something stronger than it to win this round of the bug catching contest. It was certainly not the worst encounter he could have hoped for but as he still had a decent amount of time to find something better he had no desire to capture the unlucky bug. On the other hand Shocker could still get some valuable experience from battling such a foe and Marchbaby was not about to let that opportunity go to waste. He signed to Shocker to float over to him as he went over the plan.

" I have zero doubt this Dustox is feeling very lucky after bumping into us by mistake and it almost seems cruel to make it's day worse however I doubt we are the only ones who will battle a bug type they do not capture and the stronger you can get the better. Try and take it down in one hit so it does not have to suffer too much." Shocker then floated back over and got ready to strike the terribly unlucky Dustox as it prepared a Thunderbolt befpre waiting for thw order to fire.

In the midst of waiting the aounds of other bug types off in the distance kept Marchbaby hopeful that his ouck would make a turn for the better and that one of his other encounters would be more worth his time. He knew how cruel luck could be but he was still happy contestants got more than one chance to run into a bug that they could enter in the contest. It was a bit of a shame he could not enter bug types from outside the National Park as he did have a strong Pinsir that would likely get a high score if he could.

" Shocker go ahead and fire your Thunderbolt. I truly hope Dustox does not suffer too much but the sooner we defeat it the sooner we can look for something else. I can only hope that somewhere out there one of the stronger bugs is just waiting to take us on." Shocker then fired off it's attack and waited for the results as Marchbaby kept looking around for any sign that another bug was going to approach soon. Time flew by quickly during the contest and every encounter that he did not catch made it that much harder to find a bug that might be this contest's winner.

Shocker seemed to use almost no effort at all as it quickly took down the Dustox in a single blow. As quick as the victory had come it had still taken a good chunk of time that Marchbaby had to try and find a worthy bug to enter into the contest. The good news was that he still have every one of his Sport Balls left and Shocker did not take any damage so he did not have to use any healing items yet. On the other hand he now had to find another bug as he could not enter the poor Dustox especially given the poor thing's condition after the battle.

" It is kind of scary just how powerful that Thunderbolt of yours is Shocker, I sure am glad it is not aimed at me. I feel bad for that poor Dustox but we cannot stand around all day with a chance to still win the contest. Let's see what else we can find." Marchbaby then headed deeper into the grass as he heard Pokeball's click around him and talking from other trainers battling other bug Pokemon. He knew he was falling behind as others had already captured a bug of some kind which was better than nothing at all. Regardless he was not ready to give up as there was still enough time to try and find an amazing bug.

" Too bad this contest is not for causing the most damage to bug types or else we would likely be in a better spot right now. Hopefully our next encounter is something special but if it isn't I know you can at least win against most bug types pretty quickly minimizing the amount of time lost with each dud encounter." Just as he was about to speak again he could hear rustling in the grass up ahead. With so many trainers around he did not know if it was a human or a Pokemon but he was going to be ready either way.

" Shocker get ready again just in case. I do not want to hit another competitor by mistake so do not fire yet but be prepared to do so. I have my Sport Ball ready as well just in case lady luck shines on us again." He then waited along with SHocker to see if the noise was from a legitimate target or another competitor who nearly got themselves fried on accident by stepping out on Shocker.

As the Beedrill appeared Marchbaby was at least thankful it wasn't something less impressive however he also seriously doubted it would be even a long shot chance of winning the contest. Time was still ticking and though he had yet to even capture a bug type.he still felt as though he could find something better in time. Like the Dustox before he was not about to let the chance to train Shocker a bit go to waste as the magnet Pokemon moved into position to strike as Marchbaby held onto his Sport Ball still clinging to hope.

" I do not think this Beedrill will be enough to win either. It is a shame as it would likely be a useful Pokemon in other regards but I cannot waste any sport balls on a Pokemon we have no hope of winning with unless we are out of time and have no other choice. Shocker please take care of this Beedrill for me so we can keep looking for another potential candidate to enter." Wasting no time at all Shocker sent a jolt of electricity towards the Beedrill as Marchbaby watched the bright glowing Thunderbolt. He hoped this battle would be quick as he knew time was starting to work against him by now.

With the Beedrill easily taken care of Marchbaby started to look around for another bug type. His luck so far had not been the best but he still had some time left to try and get lucky just once. He could still hear the sounds of other trainers in the distance and knew if he did not waste too much time he would still have a few more chances to capture something worth his time. " If I am correct we should have enough time for 3 more encounters at this rate. Not the greatest of news but at least we have not quite used up half of our encounters yet."

So far Shocker growing stronger was the only thing he had to show for his efforts as most of the bugs seemed to be scared off by Shocker's presence. Though he was starting to doubt anything tough was going to try their luck against Shocker he kept hoping something would prove him wrong. He was glad Shocker still had not taken damage but that small concession would hardly be worth it if he did not bump into a bug that was more than cannon fodder for Shocker to train against.

" Let's keep looking and hope our luck gets better really quickly. Time will not stop because we are standing around and I do not want to miss out on getting in as many encounters as I can before the contest ends. I can only imagine what else will jump out at us as I know a number of odd bug types like to appear during the contest here and I highly doubt we have seen every species known to be here." He then started to frantically push around every blade of grass he could find hoping to score a once in a lifetime find.

As he did Shocker got ready to strike just in case. Most of the bug types would likely get knocked out in a single blow like Dustox and Beedrill and the Magnezone did not want to grow bored by just floating in place doing nothing meaningful at all. It hoped something that would give it a real challenge would jump out next so it could put it's armor to the test. Shocker was already strong but the stronger it could get while also trying to secure a strong bug type the better. It certainly was a nice change of pace from battling water types in the middle of the ocean.

Just as Marchbaby's hopes of finding a bug worthy of winning the bug catching contest seemed to dwindle the next encounter filled him.with joy as the strange colored Scyther appeared before him. " Thanks to Clamps I recognize that coloration anywhere. A shiny Scyther is indeed a bug type with a great chance of winning the contest. Whatever you do Shocker please do not launch a single attack at this magnificent specimen. It is worth it's weight in dragon blood if we are able to capture it. Just try and keep it distracted for me."

He knew from his experience with Clamps that distracting a Scyther was no easy feat however if one was able to catch one off guard to allow for a capture they were a formidable bug type along the likes of Heracross and Durant. If he was not mistaken he could also evolve it into a Kleavor and complete the shiny collection of Scyther's evolutions as Kevin had already evolved Clamps into a shiny Scizor. Shocker also had terriboe memories of facing Bugsy's Scyther as a oowly Magnemite so holding it's fire was not something that came easy for the magnet Pokemon. Despite the urge to fry the speicla Scyther Shocker still obeyed orders and watched the bug for any signs of trouble.

" It will take an absolute miracle to capture a Scyther at full health in a single Sport Ball but luckily I have 15 chances so long as your defenses hold Shocker. We do need to hope it does not break out too many times as that will hurt our point total as well but all we can do is try. Hopefully one of these two Sport Balls does the trick so that we can get a very high placement to go.with our amazing luck with this encounter." Marchbaby tehn took aim with both of his Sport Balls hoping to find the right moment to toss them.

After studying the bug for a few moments he decided to aim right at the abdomen of the bug as it was a fairly large target and if he could aim low enough Shocker might prove enough of a distraction that he might get lucky. After taking a deep breath he tossed the first sport ball as hard as he could and got ready to toss the second baring an insane stroke of luck with his first attempt.

Seeing the Scyther break out of two Sport Balls was of little surprise to Marchbaby. Scyther were quite good at escaping from most capture attempts to begin with and as a shiny one this was likely not the first time someone tried to capture it. The good news was Shocker barely felt a thing from two attacks and Scyther did not run off so his chance to enter it in the contest was not lost though the penalty he would suffer from two failed attempts was a bit of a shame. After taking a moment to regain his composure Marchbaby tried to plan out his next move.

He knew Shocker would knock the poor bug out in a single hit of any of it's damaging moves and Flash was not going to be super useful at the moment. Though lowering Scyther's accuracy could come in handy at some point for now all he could do was keep tossing Sport Balls hoping one would defy the odds and succeed in capturing the beautiful shiny bug. " As expected you saw that coming, I should have known better than to expect getting lucky against you so quickly. Breaking out of two Sport Balls is pretty impressive but a shiny Scyther like yourself is worth investing every one I have hoping to get lucky just once."

He then grabbed another Sport Ball out of his backpack knowing that he will have gone through one fifth of his supply in a single encounter with nothing to show for it so far. Given how badly he wanted a shiny pair with Clamps he had to keep trying no matter how much the odds of captuing a full health Scyther were stacked against him. After taking a deep breath he thought about where to aim next as the abdomen was clearly not working. Though it was a riskier move he decided to aim right between the eyes hoping to stun the Scyther with such an unexpected tactic.

" Good work so far Shocker, a shame this Scyther is so hard to catch but so long as it's attacks keep doing so little damage we can afford quote a few capture attempts. Hopefully this next one is the one which catches it by surprise so we can get Clamps a friend. Be ready to take another hit for the team just in case." He then tossed the ball right at Scyther's eyes and hoped for a miracle to occur one more time.

As the Scyther broke out of the third Sport Ball Marchbaby really knew he had his work cut out for him. He was not too shocked by the bug being a master escape artist however in times such as this he really wish Shocker knew Thunder Wave to make the task of capturing Scyther easier without causing any damage to it. " This is really going to be a test of patience as well as not running out of Sport Balls. I am already down a decent amount of stock and still no dice at capturing this magnificent beast." Scyther was one bug that had earned his admiration long ago and this shiny one only made him respect the species more as he dug around his backpack for another Sport Ball.

He could only imagine if he got to have a rematch with Bugsy and brought a shiny Kleavor and Scizor to the party. He had little doubt the bug specialist would be impressed with such a pair. Not only that but such a pair might prove useful in future gym battles alongside the rest of his team. " Scyther certainly share the same fighting spirit of even the toughest of dragon types. I really hope luck finally swings back in our favor so we can add this one to our team. Convincing it to come along however so far has been quite a challenge."

As he turned to face Shocker who had shaken off yet another attack like it was nothing he was quite impressed by the Magnezone's resistance to even the razor sharp arms Scyther had. Though the level difference helped as well it was still the only thing going his way so far and he hoped that he could keep relying on Shocker's defense long enough for a sport ball to finally do the job of securing the elusive mantis Pokemon. With another Sport Ball firmly in his grasp he took aim at the bug type again. This time he aimed straight for the bug's neck hoping Scyther would somehow misjudge the incoming ball. He doubted it would work but the only way to know for sure was to try.

" Shocker just keep doing what you are doing, I know this is a long shot but I have to keep trying to capture this Scyther. Maybe this round we will finally beat the odds and capture it." He then tossed the ball and waited to see what would happen.
