Another bug catching contest, and in the summer! Alex decided to use the Cuteifly he caught last time to see her capabilities as he did not get to battle much with the Cutiefly. There were new additions this year as Bugsy had learned about a new region, so Alex can't wait to see those new Pokemon, if his luck would have allowed him to meet them! After the sound of the start of the competition, Alex quickly get himself a separate area from the crowd, like he did in the last competition. With the small Cuteifly flying next to him, he scanned the tall grass very carefully to see if anything was hiding underneath those grass. There had to be something in this bug infested field that would have a crowd of humans coming in twice a year!

Another bug catching contest. Another day for a little wurmple to run around horrified and not only avoid hungry birds, but now also crazy battle hungry trainers on top of that. It had managed to get out of the sandstorm, and it had almost got noticed by that a scary purple flame but another bug distracted them. It ran more or less into Alex leg before seeing them and its terrified expression softened a bit when it saw the small size of its potential opponent.

Thankfully for the Wurmple, Alex already had another Wurmple. Heck, he had two Wurmples who had achieved their final form Dustox and Beautifly! When the bug type crawled near his leg, he quickly stepped back away to give themselves space. Unfortunately for Wurmple, he would also have to train his bug type Pokemon. Without wasting time, he shouted an order. "Farbeez, use Draining Kiss!"

He had not seen this Pokemon move before, nor was he familiar with the fairy type Pokemon. The Cutiefly was even smaller than the Wurmple, but flew speedily toward the Wurmple for a good, comforting kiss on its cheek or its back, whichever it could get to first. This poor Wurmple seemed terrified, and maybe the Cuteifly's kiss could comfort it!

The wurmple quickly learned that size didn't matter, when Farbeez kissed it and it made it feel weak, it tackled her to get her away, only to succumb to the second kiss.

Alex watched as the move Draining Kiss was executed. It was quite interesting to say the least. This was quite different moves like Giga Drain or Mega Drain or Absorb, as physical contact seemed to be required. The Wurmple felt weak from such a speedy attack, and inched away quickly to hide and to recover. Then, before the fairy bee Pokemon return to hang alongside the human, she procured some honey as if from thin air. Alex hurriedly gather it in an empty jar, and stored it away. With the first bug encounter underway, he began wandering in the tall grass again to look for another bug Pokemon encounter.

The park was teeming with bugs planted for the contest so there was but a short distance to step before the Alex found himself another. Though, this next one was perhaps a bit more interesting than the last; both visually and from a rarity standpoint. The striking yellow of the domed shell of the galarian bug would likely have been enough to find it, but this bug was even more exceptionally unequipped for stealth with the reflective dots lighting up the vertices of its carapace.

It seemed happy at least. Perhaps it didn't quite understand what was going on, or maybe it just liked people. Either way, the dottler was moving with a happy jaunt before it spotted the trainer and afterwards it seemed to assume a happy bob instead.

Was this one of the strange new bugs in this year's BCC? The Pokemon had a gold yellow shimmer to it, and the non-yellow piece of its shell glowed occasionally like a machine glowing a light that it was on. Alex's facial expression lit up joyfully as he had encountered one of these new Pokemon added to the roster! Now, he would just need to weaken it to capture it! Thankfully, his Pokemon could get the job done easily.

"Farbeez, use Stun Spore on this one! And then use Draining Kiss!" He called out an order, and his bug began to get moving to execute the move. The Cutiefly circled around the Dottler and released yellow paralytic powders into the air, and then when she was ready, she would try to get close and give it a kiss.

The dottler jumped straight into the powders which filled the air, seemingly unaware of what they could and instead looked to be dancing in the pretty glittery of them. Right until its muscle began to spasm and it got a look of worry, it raised a shimmering shield around it, just in time for Farbeez's nasty kisses and it struggled to free itself from her grasp.

The alien looking Dottler ran into the paralytic spores. Alex wasn't sure what the opponent bug was thinking, but maybe it wasn't as bright as its carapace glowed. However, its next move of Light Screen had changed the trainer's mind again about this Pokemon's smartness. After the Cutiefly's witches kiss at it, it also used Struggle Bug which would lowered her special attack. So was this a smart one or a mediocre one or a dumb one? If Alex hadn't come across any other Pokemon during this contest, he would be able to find out.

First, he would still have to capture it. He grabbed a Sport Ball from his bag and quickly tossed at the brilliant colored bug. HE watched as the capture device did the wiggle dance.

The sport ball shook for a second or two before the yellow bug popped out, looking around as if it wasn't sure exactly what just happened to it. Narrowing its eyes at the trainer and his Pokemon, those same eyes started to glow a blue color before the fairy type would be bounced into the ground, injuring her slightly. 

Alex used poke ball, didn't work.

It was just his luck that the yellow bug wouldn't want to be captured, yet. Alex sighed as the ball broke opened, and the Dottler came right back out to use a little confusion on the Cutiefly. He grumbled and made a displeased noise, and grabbed another Sport Ball from his lot. This time it should hopefully work! He gritted his teeth and then hurled it at the opponent, crossing his fingers and hoped for the best. The ball sucked in the Dottler once again, and he watched patiently on the wobble shakey dance.

Once again the ball absorbed the bug inside and it wobbled a couple times each time making it seem like it might get out at any moment. Instead, finally, the ball stopped moving, a successful capture! Check one bug off the list of things that could be captured in the contest.

With the Sport Ball making a DING sound, Alex was relieved that this little yellow shimmer bug didn't take too long to be captured. He picked up the little bug's ball and kept it secured. He thanked his Cutiefly's work, and the little bug swirled around him and in the air celebrated. Then, the two continued wandering around the tall grass to look for the next encounter. He looked around to see if that "tree" he hanged out last time was doing well. When he finally identified it, it looked crowded at the moment, but it was growing very well.

An Illumise appeared from hiding in the tall grass, and Alex readily greeted it by calling out his Pokemon to attack with Draining Kiss. He knew what Illumise were, and he didn't need one. The small little Cutiefly was smaller than the Illumise, but that didn't deter her from this bug on bug combat. The baby bee flew up close to the Illumise and grinned maliciously before going up for some cheeky kisses or two. Even if the Illumise would try to fly away, Farbeez would chase her down, and the two would be flying in the air for a while.
