Skye's smile began to fade slightly as he was taken aback by Silver's harsh words. The entire time he was battling he had a Spearow roosting on his head, she was watching the battle intently.
'All you are is experience for Cyndaquil'
How cruel. How blunt.
This kid was really saying this to an actual human being before him. At first, it made him sad, but then he started to wonder... What experiences led Silver to think like this? What choices did he make to get to this point? Why was he so intimidating for someone so young?
His skill with battling was prevalent, the Cyndaquil he raised was strong as hell. Too much for this barely-trained Lovey Dovey Cat to handle. The first attack left her fur singed, and the cat looking weak. But, she did her job. Even if she didn't know it just yet.
"Interesting.." he comments out loud, though this was mostly for himself. A ball is raised up, and is it pointed at Skitty, "Sorry, my sweet baby. Take a rest." he says whilst recalling the creature in a beam of light. A moment is taken to think about his strategy, the next move that he needs to make.
"Come on, Sunny...!"
Bulbasaur is selected and sent out in response, a bad choice, but a calculated one given his position. Likely he is throwing them into an attack, probably another Ember if he had to guess, but he'd respond.
"Leech Seed!"
He was setting up. OOC: Notes:N/A Word Count: 249 Pokémon On-Hand:

"Gotta rethink my earlier observation. You clearly don't know the basics of battling," Silver snarked with a smirk. "That bulbasaur will be even better than that pipsqueak skitty for making my cyndaquil stronger. So lemme show you a little lesson. Grass types are weak to fire." His tone was mocking, thick with a sneering disdain of someone riding high on ego and overconfidence. Someone who thought they were superior and would walk away from this battle the victor. Even if his foe had more pokemon, HIS was stronger. That made him better. Ha. "Cyndaquil, burn it away with ember." And unfortunately for Sunny, who was switched into the fight in Skitty's place, the bulbasaur was suddenly in perfect position for the cyndaquil to near blast them away with a searing ember. The slower plant pokemon tried to orient itself and scatter seeds around the cyndaquil's feet, but before it could even do that, another wave of fire scorched across the battlefield, rendering them unable to continue the fight! Silver started laughing. What a cruel boy.

Skye sent out Bulbasaur with the intent of landing a Leech Seed. It was all Sunny had to do to help his strategy. The rookie trainer thought Sunny could take a single hit of fire—after all, he had done so well against the Spearow, surviving the brutal, super-effective peck attack, right?
Wrong.
As soon as Bulbasaur entered the battlefield, the furious flames of Cyndaquil brutalized the poor plant Pokémon, sending him skidding through the dirt with ruthless force. Suddenly, Skye's confidence was shattered. His eyes widened, and he wore a look of shock and awe. For a moment, he was stunned, unable to react. It took him a few seconds to collect himself and reach for Sunny's capsule to return him to the ball.
"Return..."
Any chance of victory now seemed bleak. Defeating this single Cyndaquil felt like a mountain in the face of his undertrained Pokémon. The importance of type match-ups was drilled into him in this moment. Too many of his Pokémon were weak against Flying and Fire-types. He needed to train more options if he was to be successful as a trainer. This boy was cruel, confident, and powerful, making him all the more interesting to Skye. Instead of giving up, he resolved to go out fighting. A smile crept across his face again, and he laughs //with// Silver.
"You're really strong!" "My Dad would like you a lot!"
Think, Think...
Whisper was young and hated battling. Hope was a Bug-Type...
All that remained was an injured Skitty and an Elderly Rat... His strategy must change.
The Lovey Dovey Skitty's capsule is selected and opened, "Fake Out!" he calls to them. Maybe he can get them by surprise again? OOC: Notes: N/A Word Count: 282 Pokémon On-Hand:

A singular pale hand raised up and pressed its palm against the redheaded boy’s lips. He managed to stifle a yawn that caused his jaws to stretch so wide, parts of his whitened teeth poked just over the edge of his fingers in hint. This battle would be boring if all Skye had were a bunch of types weakened to his flaming blue echidna, and yet he’d sought Skye out specifically as soon as his eyes landed on the other lad in hopes of finding another strong trainer. “Please save the weaklings for the Bug Catchers that proliferate the area.” Silver snapped firmly, a stern gaze cast at the twenty-something year old man. “I know I’m strong and I’m obviously younger than you. What’s that say for the life you’ve wasted so far?” Silver sneered, a quick nod to his Pokemon as soon as Skye recalled his pink puff of a kitten. “This atrocity again? Please, have your Pokemon lay off the Pinkan Berries. That’s just…wrong, man. Man to man, that doesn’t win you any favors.” Silver scoffed. That cat managed to catch them off-guard the first time, so there was absolutely zero doubt in Silver’s mind that it would perform the same trick twice. It seemed his opponent was a one-trick-pony sort of person, anyways. “Cyndaquil, it likely won’t matter what you do. Just try to leer at them to show our superiority.” Silver shrugged, nodding expectantly as soon as the call was made. Nailed it! He thought quietly to himself. Sure enough, Aries rushed after his opponent with claws outstretched, managing to smack Cyndaquil roughly across its cheek several times as if to put the fire type back in its place. Cyndaquil flinched with a downtrodden gaze shifting up to his trainer, hoping Silver wouldn’t scold him too harshly. “Hm? Oh, you couldn’t be helped this round, Cyndaquil.” He scoffed when he’d caught the sympathetic look in his Pokemon’s eyes. Rival Battle

Skye observed Silver's bored response, maintaining his confident facade and smile despite the insult. Even so, there were many lessons to be learned from this battle. Skye's weaknesses had been exposed, and he realized that he needed to grow much stronger to stand a chance in even the smallest of battles. Especially when a single Pokémon felt like a giant bulwark that was impossible to get through. Eye contact is made towards the boy, for someone younger, his gaze really did feel that intense.
The next comment touched a nerve, how could it not? His eye widen for a moment as he couldn't actually believe someone this young would actually be saying stuff like this to a stranger. It spoke to possible issues that this young man might be facing, and possibly the events that built up in his life. Skye's expression twitches then settles, becoming calm. His smile is broken. He will save his comments for later.
"..."
Silence filled the air as the insult settled in Skye's mind. He refocused on the battle. Aries was injured and weakened, but her confidence seemed endless. Despite her singed fur, the kitten rushed with all her energy towards the blue echidna, determined to give it another nasty surprise, only to be smacked back. The rookie trainer noticed the look of fear and remorse the Cyndaquil gave its trainer, and he felt nothing but sympathy for the Pokémon. He could see that the Cyndaquil cared deeply about what its trainer thought, sensing a roughness and callousness in Silver's approach to training them. Abuse was likely, even if it wasn't physical abuse.
"Tickle." was the order given. If this attack could connect, then Skye might be in a good spot again. But, he knew this was a long shot.

"You honestly think that slow, pitiful thing can outspeed without a priority move?" Silver mocked. "Honestly, that thing is useless without fake out. Why are you even bothering? You would have been better off just letting it stand there as you healed something in your party capable of taking a hit. As it stands...Cyndaquil, end this with ember. This weakling is clueless. At least you're getting plenty of experience from stomping them into the dust." He started to laugh as his partner let loose a series of little embers that just set the poor skitty's tail on fire. It ran around for a while helplessly before falling over, defeated. "2 v 0. Man. You got anything actually worthwhile in the back?" This kid was mean. Very mean. He was clearly enjoying mocking his foe and reveling in the feat of his pokemon. Rival Battle

Skye now found himself growing quite bothered when Silver implied that the Skitty was useless without Fake Out. Sure, she was not quite as experienced as Cyndaquil, and needed more training, but it was a stretch to say there wouldn't be a situation where she was useful. Now this child was growing increasing aggravating, which was a hard thing to do to someone like Skye. His smile continues to grow through the pain, even if his eye might twitch.
Exhale....
The man makes no comment to the egging as he silently retrieved Aries' Pokéball from his pack. A crimson beam extends from the capsule and reclaims the Kitty. A silent, small prayer and thanks is offered in his mind to thank her for trying her very best. She was most helpful in this new strategy since the critical hit derailed his original tactic.
Defeat was almost certain, but he maintains trying his best to the bitter end. He has two Pokémon left that are willing to battle...
Atop his head Whisper was observing this battle and could feel the frustrations of her new Trainer. She slides down his head and perches on his shoulder, leaning forward to get a better look at him, she lets out a small squawk, a question being posed at him.
Skye's eyes move toward the bird finding himself surprise as he makes an assumption of her question, his left arm curl upwards and he caresses her head meaningful giving a few pat-scratches as he quietly mutters something to her, "No dear, I won't make you..." was spoken softly to her. Odds are she would only end up hurt for nothing, and he couldn't possibly ask that of her. Not after everything she has been through.
A decision is made. The Elder Ratatta is called out into battle, clicking open from his capsule and facing off against the Fire Mouse.
<"EH?! WHAT'S THIS?!">
The Old Rat glanced around with confusion as the battle he had just experienced had happened so fast. It took a few moments for him to remember what he had gone through. That he was now owned by a Trainer at his age. With his advance age he assess the situation, and realizes he is in a battle.
<"Eh?! Who's this Whippersnapper?!>"
"Quick Attack!"
Grandpa Fang looks over his shoulder, giving Skye the most foul look a Rat could possibly give someone. Skye starts to sweat, "P.. Please?"
Grandpa Fang scoffs at the boy then turns to face the opposing Pokémon and his Trainer, he will take his rage out on these two. His joints audibly crack as he gets himself into position, then he races forward with tremendous speed and experience, curling his body slam him with the good, strong side of his body against the enemy Cyndaquil. "Oh, so you've figured out what priority is finally, huh? But now you've sent some decrepit old rodent with a bad back by the look of it. Man, you scraped the bottom of the barrel when you picked your team," Silver mocked before laughing. That old rat did hit pretty hard, enough so that the cyndaquil's flame sparked up, hotter than before. "Tch, well, how about we put the end to you being able to even hit us before we wipe the floor with you, hm? Cynaquil, use smoke screen and make sure that senile old thing doesn't even see you to hit you again!" The mole was happy enough to do that. Breathing in deeply, its flames flare big and bright before it breathed out a hot cloud of smoke. The battlefield vanished into a plume of sooty darkness that stung the eyes and lungs and made it difficult to see. "Just give up and admit you've lost already." Rival Battle

Grandpa Fang was an experienced, elder rat—at least when it came to Route 29. However, in a battle against a trained Pokémon, even with his advanced age and wisdom, he still had much to learn about the ways and little intricacies of Pokémon battles under the guidance of a Trainer. His back was actually fine today; now it was his hip that was bothering him, especially with the sudden racing and blitzing hits.
Silver was so brazen, so blunt, that it left Grandtatta entirely speechless. His jaw dropped at the audacity of what this boy was saying. The gall to say such things! While he didn't really care about the kid or his team yet, Silver's actions felt unforgivable to him, especially the parts about himself. It took getting smothered by the smoke for Grandpa Fang to snap out of this. A slight coughing fit occurred, then he raised his voice, yelling at the redhead with all his might while doing the whole condescending pointing.
<"YOU PREPUBESCENT PUKE."> <"YOU WILL SHOW SOME RESPECT TO YOUR ELDERS."> <"HOW DARE YOU TRY TO LECTURE THIS KID, I WAS GONNA DO THAT!"> <"RAAGHGHGHHHHH!!!">
Skye couldn't help but let out a tiny chuckle at the antics of the elderly rat. Adding him to the team was not a decision he could see himself regretting.
"If I'm gonna go down, I'm gonna go down swinging!" "Grandpa Fang, another qui-"
Grandpa Fang began to pick up speed once more before Skye could finish his sentence, blitzing forward to land another Quick Attack on Cyndaquil. They were simply in the way of him getting to Silver so he could yell at him further.

As Fang rushed towards Cyndaquil Silver had been growing bored of this battle and looked forward to putting an end to it. He quickly ordered Cyndaquil to strike hoping it would convince Skye to finally throw in the towel. " Cyndaquil do me a favor and burn this ancient, wrinkly, smelly rat to a crisp with your Ember before it keel hauls over from a heart attack. We are honestly doing the old geezer a favor." What he had not accounted for however was Fang getting an unusually high boost of speed allowing him to strike harder than usual. The oversight would cost him dearly as Fang scored a CRITICAL HIT knocking Cyndaquil out before the fiery rodent could strike again. " I cannot believe you lost to such a dried up, worthless Pokemon. I swear if you ever fail me again you will rule the day we ever met. As for you enjoy this lucky win while you can. The next time we meet I will make sure to get my revenge. This should cover a bus ticket to the airport for you to fly away and never return." After throwing the money on the ground he recalled CYndaquil then ran off before Skye could make his day any worse. Skye wanted to go down swinging if he was to go down; surrender was not an option. Mama didn't raise a quitter! (She raised a procrastinator.) As such, he would battle with all his might, until he was down to the last Pokémon willing to fight. He wouldn't force Whisper to engage in something she didn't want to do; he would respect that boundary of hers. Grandpa Fang was roaring and ready to fight. His anger was so focused on getting back at Silver for his words that he didn't even complain about being ordered around the second time. The Grandtatta was already prepared for the attack and rushing in.
Silver's words made Grandpa Fang's rage that much more potent. With a vicious snarl and growl, he began moving his little limbs faster, audible cracks resounding as he channeled more of his ferocity, wisdom, and experience into this quick blitz of an attack. Silver had pushed this rat too far, and it would cost him dearly. Grandpa Fang used all his fury into this Quick Attack, overpowering this Fire Mouse and sending him skirting across the grass into a quick fainted state with all the power behind it.
<"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR UNDERESTIMATING ME!"> roared the Rattata, though he soon got into a coughing fit because of the smog that still covered the battlefield.
Skye's eye went wide, even the Spearrow on his shoulder was baffled at the sight she was seeing. The titan of a Pokémon that took down many others was toppled by an old rat, which in her community would've been laughable, unheard of. Spearow's do not fear Ratatta, but she just might respect this one. A smile is growing, the boy is overwhelmed with the taste of victory... For just a mere moment. Silver just had a way of draining the wind from his sails with his negativity as he was utterly abusive and cruel to his Cyndaquil that had taken out three Pokémon on it's own. Such a performance should make them proud.
The rookie had many things to say to Silver, but the impatient boy was off quickly, leaving behind money... Skye was not stupid; he was for sure going to collect. Instead of staying angry, feelings of pity were invoked for this young man. Skye could only wonder what pain and rage led up to a personality such as this. Such a person needs help.
<"DON'T YOU--"> The rat tried to sound off to Silver as he made his exit, but the char and ash in the air made it difficult. Skye jogged over towards his Pokémon, scooping him up with a single hand and patting him on the back for his efforts to try and calm him.
"Now, Now... Let him go, you already won. You did better than anyone could ask for. Just get some good rest."
<"GRHHHH.. YOU DARE TRY TO TELL ME-">
Skye counter-attacked by using his thumb and index fingers to massage the rat's lower joints, where he thought pain and pressure might have built up. This proved to be very effective, as the old rat sighed with relief, lessening his rants and talking to a satisfied grumble.
<"I'll allow this... This time... Whippersnapper."> Grandpa Fang grumbled happily before shutting his eyes, likely to be napping within minutes while his new trainer walked. Skye had a way with the elderly sometimes. He trudged onward, Cherrygrove spotted in the distance. He finally made it... OOC: Notes: Would like to move onto Cherrygrove City please ♥
