After hearing his roommate Alex talked about the bug catching contest a few times, Ethan decided this year he would go and give it a try. Brining along his Kricketune, he patiently listened to the rules and then pocketed the rental sports ball.

So this thing was almost like a Safari Zone. He didn’t know what to expect other than catching uncommon bug types here. He instructed his Pokemon to use False Swipe on anything that approached them. He would have to see who would be serenaded with his bug type’s lullaby and freedom to explore outside of this park with him.

In front of him was a long band of red, that Ethan initially mistaken it as trash or something blown by the wind had it not moved on its own. It’s quite a flat pokemon that would give stunfisk a run, since it got legs that stunfisk lacked. Thinking that it’s one of the newer Pokemon that Bugsy had introduced, he knew he had to catch it. The crawling red bacon bit back his Kricketune after the sharp bug struck it with his blade-arm first.

“Kricketune, stay put! If it broke free of the sport ball then use false swipe again!” He hollered and then grabbed a rental sport ball and hurled it. He watched to see if the capture was successful.

Ethan hurled a sport ball at the crawling bacon, and watched nervously as the capture device shook a little. The capture device momentarily shook to the left and then to the right. However, just as his hope was filled to the brim, the Pokemon broke out with a loud crash! The shattered ball fell on the ground nearby, and the opponent hissed out black smoke from its face. Then, Kricketune went forward and swiped the bug again, bringing it down to its silver of health. The opponent was panting and holding onto its life, and instead released yet another billow of charry smoke into the area.

"Hmm. So this is a tough one! Kricketune, stay put!" Ethan hollered out at his Pokemon, and prepared to hurl some more capture device at the opponent. With the additional smokescreen blurring the Kricketune's vision, he figured that using Sing would be basically ineffective or difficult now to put the spicy fruit roll-ups to sweet slumber. He watched to see what happened after the first capture device was thrown.

With two more Sport Ball, the Scolipede was successfully captured! Ethan sighed in relief and went to pick up the capture device after the victorious DING sounded. The Sizzlipede was quite relentless with the smokescreens, and the trainer was thankful to his earlier decision to not even have his Kricketune attempt a Sing.

"We did it, Kricketune! Thank you for staying put! Now, let's go look for other Pokemon in this park." Ethan thanked his Pokemon, and then continued walked toward some other tall grasses. There was literally no difference between the tall grasses. He looked around and saw a few people had already completed the contest, and some were also battling a Sizzlipede or some of the newly introduced bug type Pokemon. The musical Kricketune hummed, and followed after the trainer.

The Kricketune wasn't humming any particular beats or rhythm, just some sound to ease the chaotic loud noises of screaming children excited by their bug Pokemons or scared by their bug Pokemon. Either way, there were loud noises around, and the bug type was using its voice to find calmness and constant in this world of external chaos that it couldn't control.

In front of them was an unassuming Wurmple, crawling and inching, either toward them or away from other people. Either way, Ethan wasn't interested in this one, and decided to just have his Pokemon gained some training experience, even if it was minute. "Kricketune, use Struggle Bug!" He could have ordered his music Pokemon to use X-Scissor, but he didn't need to scar the poor Wurmple too badly. The bug glowed bright red as it prepared a Struggle Bug attack, as it would be less scarring than being slashed with a sharp arm that also would doubled as an instrument.

The poor wurmple went straight out into the false swiping which made it flinch, although it was hanging on by a thread. A quick tackle to defend itself but when the bug started to struggle, it became too much for the little worm. It was way out of its league and it turned tail to flee.

The Wurmple was defeated by a quick struggle bug. The weakling crawling pokemon scurried away to safety and hide amongst the crazy trainers as it recovered its health.

”Well, that was my second encounter, let’s see who’s next.” Ethan spoke to himself m, as it wasn’t like Pokemon themselves would understand the concept of what a contest or competition was. They might be able to trained to defend themselves with moves and battle techniques, but adhering to man made rules about an artificial contest was above his training skills.

Walking in the grass until he saw something, Ethan saw a yellow spot and stopped. Thinking it's one of the other bug Pokemon, he was disappointed when he saw that it was just a Kakuna. "Well. That's a Kakuna. Kricketune, use X-Scissor!" He quickly hollered an attack for his Pokemon. Since the cocoon Pokemon have somewhat decent exterior shell, he didn't think they would be hurt too bad by a powerful X-scissor attack.

The bug type moved hurriedly on the tall grass, and both of his arm-blade glowed bright as he prepared for an X-scissor toward the mostly immobile opponent. The Kricketune didn't say anything. Maybe he hummed a little, but he wasn't a talkative Pokemon, especially against a cocoon with only eyes. What was there to say? How's the metamorphosis?

With one quick efficient footsteps of X-Scissor, the Kakuna was knocked unconscious, or it declared itself defeated. The cocoon Pokemon quickly turned around and shot a sticky String Shot on a tree branch, and disappeared with some quick acrobatics like movements. The orange musician returned to humming like normal.

"Heh, I have two encounters left. If nothing else interesting shows up, then I will keep this Sizzlipede then!" The contest participant talked to himself, and then moved along the tall grass once again. This wasn't too bad for a contest so far, he thought to himself. He strolled as he listened more contest players being called out to head back to the waiting area, since their encounters were reached to the limit.
