Once again, Ellie felt like she was relegated to the role of "side character". Ellie's meal ticket and the stupid ginger jerk were going back and forth again. Though Ellie didn't have enough time to come up with any strategy more sophisticated than the one she'd set on from the beginning. If her last battle had become a brutal slugfest, this was armageddon Shelbert gathered speed, just as he had against Indy. Chikorita though, was prepared. Razor sharp leaves pieced Shelbert up. More than Ellie was even prepared for. Even though Shelbert landed a clear hit, the poor guy had suffered for it. As soon as this is all over, I'll explain it to Shelbert. Tell him he's my top guy. Tell him he did great...
All that momentum Shelbert had gathered...It was possible for one last hurrah. Squirtles, when pushed to the limits could do some pretty amazing stuff. All starter species could. This...This seemed like one of those times. This jerk may have had the type advantage, but maybe Shelbert could overcome that. Maybe not. There was only one way to find out. "Shelbert...WATER GUN!"
With that momentum gained, Ellie hoped Shelbert could outmaneuver this stupid little plant-thing, and blast it with so much force the type advantage wouldn't matter. A deluge of mythic proportions, like the mighty Kyogre...

"Oh look, you're watering my chikorita again. Adorable," the boy mocked. "See that, you old hag, you're not getting this bag back when you depend on losers like THAT. Look at her, using a water type to fight a grass type. It's like she doesn't know that, no matter how hard that stupid turtle tries, it won't be doing any worthwhile damage that way. Heck, maybe she wants you to get robbed." Now he was just rubbing salt in the wound. Hard. As that powerful, torrent-boosted water gun blasted across the battlefield, striking the chikorita and pushing him back, it was evident that the battle between them was over. The chikorta had too much of an edge. He swung the leaf on his head, around and around, sending more leaves crashing into the turtle. Two hits and out. Silver snorted and then started to laugh, "That was pitiful! You barely did anything to my chikorita!" The deluge subsided. Chikorita had weathered the storm, and cast back the leviathan into the dark. Shelbert, that great pillar of her team had fallen. Ellie knew Shelbert wasn't some creature of folklore. Not some monster. He was real. A tiny guy who trusted her and now he couldn't take anymore. Ellie knew that. She really did, and yet...She began to laugh. "HA...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!" Ellie laughed until she could hardly breathe. "Y-you think you've won? That box hair dye must have seeped into your brain! I have something you don't! REINFORCEMENTS!!!!"
Ellie didn't know, certainly, but she had a hunch. If this guy was stealing handbags in the woods, he probably wasn't high-minded enough to complete the pokedex, assuming he even had one. Considering his edgelord persona, he probably didn't care to waste his time on rats and small birds. That was going to be his downfall. He had to get lucky every time. Ellie only had to get lucky once.
Considering that Indy was still down and out, Ellie had to rely on the new capture. Ellie grabbed the recently occupied pokeball and sent its occupant out. She hadn't given the little guy much in the way of introductions. She hoped the senret's special eyes would allow him to catch up quickly. "WHAT? WHERE AM I?" Senna squeaked in sentrish (sentret speak). The lil critter quickly surveyed the battle field. It was much the same as it had been, minus the rat. Now there was a peeved looking abomination, and a second human holding...
"THE BAG! THE BAG! THAT'S MY BAG!!!" Senna charged the green leafy thing guarding the human, claws bared.

The rich lady gasped horrified when Shelbert was knocked out. "Oh no! I really need that bag back! It's worth a fortune!" She wailed, clearly more worried for her bag than of the pokemon's fainting. Silver looked unimpressed when Ellie laughed maniacally and he rolled his eyes, "I sure hope not, otherwise you'd be a pathetic hero. Throwing useless pokemon out to be punching bags, I thought you planned on trying to stop me? If you don't step up with something better you're wasting my time and I can find better use for my chikorita elsewhere.""Nonononono! Don't you dare to leave with my bag!" The lady whined and fanned herself with a hand, "pull yourself together!" She snapped at Ellie, "you promised me to get it back and I will pay you for it!"Silver looked at the woman with a smirk, "I wonder why your bag is so valuable, and why you can pay when you get the bag back," he said with a glance at the shoulder bag slung over his shoulder, and with a malicious smile. The lady gasped and snapped her mouth shut. "That's your reinforcements?" Silver asked disdainfully at the sight of the sentret who looked around frantically. Then he suddenly bolted straight at the redhead and he stumbled back shocked, "Stop it!" He snapped and Chikorita jumped forward and into Senna's path so he rammed into it. As they flailed around in a heap of arms and legs, Senna's claws scratched up Chikorita's side and it in turn got lots of spores knocked out of it which filled the air and made Senna feel queasy. The two pokemon got to their feet, and now it was Silver's time to laugh, although his was quiet and mocking, "how pathetic, don't you have anything better than that?"Well, Ellie at least now knew that the grass dinosaur knew other attacks than razor leaf, perhaps she could trick or convince her opponent to use other moves than that tough hitting one? She could also try see if she could make her own pokemon's attack hit harder, she was the trainer after all and would have to make a tactic to win this, if she was the type who did that. If nothing else, she at least had some stuff in her bag which could help her pokemon if needed, hopefully her opponent didn't have the same, or was too proud to use things like that. Poison powder? POISON POWDER?!? SINCE WHEN COULD CHIKORITAS DO POISON?!?!??!? THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DELICATE LITTLE FLOWERS AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHGGGG! Ellie screamed internally. She wanted to hit herself for being so stupid. How could she not know that? Ellie stared at the battlefield. Senna's claw left a solid mark on the plant-dinosaur. Tough as it was, Ellie could see its injuries starting to catch up to it.
A fool might have thought that was a good sign. Ellie knew that if pushed a little farther, it would become more powerful than she could possibly imagine. She saw what it did without its contingency boost kicking in. If she was going to take it out, she had to do it quickly. Better still, if she could keep her opponent from using razor leaf, that would be even better. On both counts, there was one 'mon for the job.
Indy was probably still tired from the last fight. Though if everything went to plan, Indy wouldn't be out for long. All Ellie had to do now was hope this kid would take the bait. She was already upset. All she had to do was a bit of method acting. "AHHHHG, YOU MONSTER!" Ellie swiftly withdrew her sentret. Ellie's breathing was a ragged wheezing sound. She coughed a bit for good measure. One could almost be forgiven for thinking some of chikorita's poison powder was blown her way, and the poor scrawny little girl was all weak and helpless.
"INDY, GET IN THERE QUICK!" She sent out her handy dandy rat friend. She had seemed to have bounced back from her previous bout. Standing strong despite her open wounds. Now, the thing about most status effect moves, the poison passed through unbroken skin. That was why moves like toxic and spore weren't secondary effects relying on an attack. They could do their job effectively without creating an opening.
Still, any trainer with a modicum of cunning or tactical acumen would know it was better to pass through broken skin. Especially a certain sadist who wanted to prove a point and toy with his opponent...

The young teenager chuckled as Ellie grew more and more frustrated by the battle. Even with some degree of holding back and being outnumbered he had gained the upper hand though Chikorita was slowly being withered down from all the damage she had taken. He watched as she switched out her Sentret for Indy the Rattata and started to grow bored of the who swap fest going on. " Chikorita that rat isn't even worth using much energy on, just use Tackle and I bet it will topple over." The young grass type dinosaur then rushed towards Indy before the young Rattata could make a move and delivered an average Tackle. Seeing Indy still standing the young man thought maybe Indy had just gotten lucky and he ordered a second strike to bring the Rattata down. " So you got lucky the first time, Chikorita use Tackle again and make sure that rat doesn't get back up." CHikorita then ran straight into Indy a second time but the young Rattata was tougher than it looked as it shrugged off the second strike before using her tail to clear up some of the pollen and to lower the Chikorita's defense as well. Though quite annoyed that Indy was still standing the man felt pretty confident in his victory rtegardless. " Ok we really need to work on your tackling skills but I think we proved our point nonetheless. What will you do now pest, will you try and keep squirming in desperation or will you give in to save your Pokemon from further pain?" He asked while waiting to see if Ellie was ready to yield yet. Ellie's heart sank. He didn't take the bait. He didn't do poison again. Now Indy had caught a vicious beating, and for what? Ellie wanted to cry, to run away. Why wasn't she good enough? Why wasn't she strong enough? Surely there had to be some way to win this, but she wasn't able to piece it together. THINK, ELLIE, THINK!!!! She racked her mind, until suddenly, it hit her. Like a bolt of divine inspiration, a plan came together. Here she was like a total idiot, focusing on the pokemon. Really, there was another layer to this. She had items. Potions! A revive! This wasn't over! Not by a long shot!
Then, like a bolt of divine inspiration, it hit her. Elm had given her a nice little starter pack. In that bag, she had a few potions. Ellie reached into her bag, and pulled out the spray bottle. Like some kind of quickdraw artist she began spraying indy over and over like she was unloading a clip into some poor fool. Suddenly, her manic energy was back. She could still win this thing! Even if she had to empty every drop of healing juice on this fight!
"You act all big and bad, but at the end of the day you picked a CHIKORITA! Mathematically, I can prove that's the worst starter, like ever! Only stupid girls pick it cuz they think its cute! You're a third rate trainer with a fourth rate starter!" If Silver got mad and did something stupid, or if his chikorita broke ranks and did something stupid, that was all the better.

The young man easily brushed off the insults as he felt as though he had this battle in the bag. As confident as he was however Chikorita seemed to be quite insulted by Ellie's words as it looked at both her and Indy with a face of pure disgust. The young grass type had totally lost all control of it's emotions as it suffered from the verbal abuse. It could not believe the horrible things this trainer was saying about it's kind and it wanted to scream at both her and her Pokemon. As Ellie used a Potion Chikorita approached without saying a word before letting out the most aggressive growl a member of it's species could make. Had this not been a battle the noise would have been adorable but despite the lack of intimidating sounds a Chikorita could make it was just strange enough for Indy to lose a bit of courage as he attack dropped a bit. Chikorita;'s trainer was livid that the poor thing had wasted a turn without his orders and could barely contain himself from screaming at the young CHikorita. " You fool, how dare you waste a turn like this. If your stupid emotions cost us this battle I will have your hide. Now shape up and do what I say when I say!"He did not even dare to respond to Ellie's insults further as his temper was already sky high and he knew if he got anymore hotheaded he might make a mistake. For now all he could do was try and undo the mistake Chikorita had made hoping the error would not be too costly in the long run. Ellie's lips curled into a grin. It was an ugly smile. Like hooks tugging at the flesh of a corpse. Weird. Creepy. She knew that. She'd been told as much, and she didn't care. The redheaded punk never gave into her provocations. Not really. His Chikorita though? There. That was the weak spot she'd been looking for! The small green critter snarled, as though it had never before hated quite as much as it did right now.
Ellie's heart was beating like a drum. The loud, fast, rhythmic thumping was almost too much for her to handle. She'd been afforded an opening. Now it was up to her to not waste it. Thus far, the only pokemon that had been poisoned was Senna. The redhead didn't seem keen to use that move again. Even her previous coaxing had proved ineffective on that front. If Indy could get poisoned, she'd have the boost to merc this stupid plant.
Ellie tried to think back. What caused Chikorita to do poison last time? Senna landed a clean hit, and then...The pollen. Could it be more of a passive defense rather than a true attack? Ellie supposed it was possible. After all, it had just now disobeyed orders and growled. Clearly it had a lot to learn. If that was true, maybe what worked before would work again! If Indy could score a solid hit, maybe even on the same area Senna did, history would repeat!
"INDY, ATTACK ITS RIGHT SIDE, QUICK!" Senna closed the distance at breakneck speeds. She saw the scratch left by Senna and lunged for it, hoping to cause as much damage as possible. Maybe that Chikorita would slip up and hand Ellie the keys to victory.

Silver could hardly stand another second in front of this pathetic washup of a trainer. He needed to make Chikorita tough and invincible. That required a lot of diligent training in the field, finding weaklings to wallop and letting Chikorita gain valuable experience from the altercations along the way. Here he was, instead, babysitting a sore loser in a match she obviously wouldn’t win, who kept having to find yet another Pokémon for Chikorita to defeat before he could help to see the improvements take hold of his Pokémon. “That stupid move won’t help you.” Silver smirked, eyes spinning in their sockets to lock down upon their Pokémon. “Chikorita, you know what to do.” The words were cold, callous. There was no room for error. “Don’t react with your emotions, you overgrown houseplant. Act on your intuition. Hit the stupid rat with your hardest Tackle. Think you can manage that? Hmm?” Silver taunted. The small plant Pokémon looked up into her trainer’s eyes and whipped her leaf around her head with a firm nod. She couldn’t let another screw up slip up underneath her belt. Chikorita’s feet pounded against the ground as she raced through the tall grasses after Indy. Indy was quicker, however, and totally knocked her opponent off-course. The attack came out of nowhere. One minute, the furry purple rodent stood before Chikorita, giving her an easy target to focus on. The next minute, the rodent seemingly disappeared into the tall grasses, around large oak trees, and possibly underneath rotten logs, to sneak out from seemingly nowhere and everywhere at once. Indy’s head made direct contact with Chikorita’s side, causing the plant to scream out painfully. Where did Indy even come from?! Poisonous pollens floated up all around them both as Chikorita’s natural defense mechanisms kicked in, poisoning her opponent in one single breath. “What did I just say, you….Ugh! At least it wasn’t a total waste!” Silver snapped, crossing his arms over his chest. Rival Battle Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Chikorita LV 9 HP 24% [7/29]

In the middle stages of the battle, it seemed like all Ellie's strategy rested on a central pillar. All actions she took from then on were in service of that one goal. Getting Indy poisoned. She didn't know if Indy knew about the iconic rat power boost. If not, she'd be feeling it real soon. With this boost, Indy could go toe to toe with a starter, no problem. Even if that starter had a boost of their own. The redhead seemed blissfully unaware of what his chikorita had done. Not a total waste, he'd called it. "Oh I wouldn't be so sure!" Ellie could hardly contain her excitement. Victory was hers to grasp, all she had to do was reach. "Indy, when you close the distance, don't back off. Stay put. Trust me on this." Ellie tried her best to sound sure. This was the end game. One last tilt would decide the match. She wasn't going to let this stupid jerk take her spoils of war!
"NOW, INDY, NOW!" Ellie threw her arm out to indicate her attack plan. Indy juked through the grass, ducking and weaving to avoid view until it was too late. Indy charged for another wounded part of Chikorita, its front. Where Shelbert had knocked it around a few times before kicking the bucket. That spot. Having the speed advantage, Ellie built off Indy's assault with an offensive of her own. "I'd be careful using razor leaf if I were you. In close quarters, there's no telling where the leaves will go. Why, it could hurt itself, the poor thing."
If Ellie could plant the seed of doubt, Chikorita's ability would be useless. No mater how certain victory seemed, she knew when push came to shove that chikorita was dangerous. She couldn't leave anything to chance. If that meant she had to play mind games, she would.

"Don't tell me what to do you stupid girl. Finish that weakling off with a razor leaf!" Silver snarked. Chikorita looked ready to start steamrolling again with those sharp leaves, panting a bit from tiredness and eyeing Silver with a little distrust after he screamed at him. But at least he knew that his razor leaf's were strong! Probably even stronger now that he was tired! Except...that rat. It moved lightning fast. He braced himself, ready to swing but— BAM! The rat slammed into the chikorita and sent them both tumbling from the powerful impact. The poison coursing though her veins left her trembling and desperate. She had to hit even harder when weakened like this! And...it was enough. That last hit resulted in the chikorita tumbling to the ground...and not getting back up, even when Silver started to cuss and kick at nearby rocks in frustration. "YOU USELESS—" he grit his teeth, returning the chikorita. "Whatever. I'm out of here." Ellie didn't matter to him when he had a useless chikorita to PROPERLY TRAIN. He didn't even notice a few bills falling from his pocket as he ran off. What a sore loser... Guts boosted quick attack KO's!

Ellie knew about rattata behavior. They were a common enough sight in the city, and popular enough among kids. Of course, she was one of the few who did a little extra reading on the subject. When they got backed into a corner, they would enter a state of heightened power. Having seen it close up, it was everything Ellie could have hoped for. It was one of those things one didn't fully appreciate at first. It had happened so fast.
Indy, that small purple rat destined to be pokedex fodder was quickly proving to be one of Ellie's top guys. The quick one two punch, and the indomitable Chikorita had been laid low. The redhead had very nearly gotten the better of her. Maybe he didn't fully appreciate how close he was to victory. Maybe he did, maybe that's what made it hurt so bad. Ellie looked over at the unconscious chikorita.
Ellie wanted to feel proud, but instead she just felt empty. She wanted to win, but she knew that Chikorita would be raked over the coals for this failure. It would remember Ellie's taunts and jabs. "Great job, Indy. I...I mean you were amazing! I owe you twice over. Come on back now and rest. I'll see you right as soon as I attend to this..." Ellie's words were stiff and awkward. She had the bag, her spoils of war, perhaps she'd even have closure in regards to the bags contents.
She felt awful for what she'd done, but she did not dare show it. That weakness was unbecoming of a trainer. What am I supposed to say? I feel bad for doing the exact thing battling is all about? Ellie would need to kill that weak part of her. Ellie had little time to stew on that. She had precious few moments to secure the bag.
With Indy resting inside her pokeball, Ellie ran to collect her trophy. The bag and the pocket change the redhead had dropped. After all the trouble she went through to secure this lady's bag, she was going to make sure she got her cut. "See? I told you I'd get you your bag!" Ellie smiled. Ellie held it up, like it was some prized magikarp. Though she did not bring it back to the lady just yet. "I think I deserve an explanation first. What could possibly be worth all this trouble? I mean that guy...he seemed to know something..."

"OH, thank you child, now hand it over." The lady said, her expression pleasant up until she realized that Ellie wasn't coming forward to hand it over like a good child. Then she scowled nastily and stomped a heeled foot, fists clenched in bratty frustration. "Do you have no taste?! As I have been saying this whole time, that bag is of the finest materials and I spent good money on it. That little thief wanted to steal it and sell it, I bet. And on top of all that, it has my medicine in it, which I need, so do give it back, child." Her face was flushed and she took a moment to breathe and settle her temper. "Come now. It its white, 100% genuine tauros leather and designed by a top bag maker in Kalos. It would break my heart to see it damaged..." She approached and reached out... Only for mother nature to have a sense of humor. A streak of red and brown swooped down to steal that 'magikarp' Ellie held, swiping the leather bag out of her hand and flying off. Sorta. The bag was heavier than the bird anticipated and its flight lagged, forcing it to fly low to the ground. The lady shrieked. "Noooo! Not again! It is going to drag the bag in the dirt and ruiiiiin it!" she wailed. And thus the bag saga continued.

"W-wait...so there isn't some grand conspiracy?" Ellie's cheeks flushed hot with shame. She wanted to believe there was more to all this than met the eye. There was something between the lady and the redhead. Ellie was fairly certain she hadn't imagined that. She seemed sensitive about what was inside the bag. Medicine? Yeah right. She was probably pedaling...illicit substances! Ellie wanted to believe, but looking into the woman's eyes, Ellie knew the truth. Things were as they initially appeared. This lady was dumb and rich. Not so dramatic, but that was just the way of it. The girl held the bag out. She embarrassed to bother trying to force the lady to pay up. Before the femme-not-so-fatale could grab her bag, something swooped in and stole it. "OH COME ON!" Ellie shouted, as a brown and red bird made off with her quarry. "THAT'S NOT FAIR!" The spearow cawed as it made its getaway. Could she even catch it? The little thief was airborne! Think, Ellie, think! You know this...what's the airspeed velocity of an unladden spearow? Take that and subtract the weight of the bag, and... FORGET THIS! I BECAME A TRAINER SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO HOMEWORK!"
The small bird was weighed down. Ellie's only flyer was an unproven, unreliable spearow. She did have ranged options though. She only hoped Shelbert had recovered at all. Without fanfare, or any kind of hesitation, she let her starter out again. The turtle stood on unsteady legs, looking around confused. "Shelly, no time to explain, I need you to blast that bird out of the air! Can you do that?" Ellie pointed at the spearow, making a clumsy getaway. Shelbert looked at the bird, then back to Ellie, and ran after the spearow.
Having gotten close enough, Shelbert let out a blast of water, ready to make this bird regret its life choices.
