Basic Character Rules
1. Your characters must be:
- original creations, or
- a canon of the Pokémon universe
They may not based off of, be a mirror of, or be a canon of some other fiction or a notable real life person.
2. You can roleplay canon characters from either the anime or games. More on Canons further below.
3. You are allowed up to 3 characters (for more request permission from Professor Oak ). You gain a 'character slot' when:
- Your 1st character has obtained the Zephyr Badge
- Your 2nd character has obtained the Hive Badge
*It is possible to archive old characters & start new, just be wary of the loss of any badges in the process. Your '1st' character counts as the earliest made active character you have.
Similarly, you may unretire one of your old characters to fill a character slot. If you retire-swap characters, we restrict it to once a year. If we find you are continually retire-swapping some characters your request may be denied due to circumventing the character limit.
4. Your character may not start with a preset team of Pokémon or items. Pokémon/Items transferred from another of your characters is acceptable. This rule applies even to canon characters.
5. Only staff members can review and accept characters.
6. This forum hosts Human-only Trainers. No Pokemorphs, bestial half-breeds, Legendary avatars, shifters, natch. Have a problem with being boring old Homo Sapiens? Tough luck.
Now the good part...
Character Creation
Fill out the template below in a new thread for staff to review. It must have the following information:
Name: First & Last name
Age: All ages welcome!
Gender: Boy, girl, non-binary, etc
Trainer Type: Are they your average trainer, or do they have a bit of Breeder in them? How about a Co-Ordinator? Perhaps a hopeful Ranger? This can develop as they travel, and you may want to look at our Crime & Justice options. Otherwise, a full list can be found on Bulbapedia.
Hometown: An existing place within the canon Pokemon world.
Appearance: Picture optional, writing mandatory. Make sense. If your character is going to be walking around in full Mardi Gras costume for most of their waking hours they may draw unwanted attention.
At least 12 sentences in paragraph format
Personality: Your character is not a wooden plank therefore should have a definitive personality. What are they like? Strengths? Weaknesses? Likes and dislikes?
At least 12 sentences in paragraph format
History: Your character probably has a past, parents, some major events in his or her life and other things which made them into who they are today. Tell us the good key points. Avoid the bland 'video game playthrough' history unless there's something more to tell than 'they became champion and got bored'.
~18 sentences in paragraph format; don't fill with dialogue
Goals: What is your character heading for in their life? Do they have a preset mission to motivate them? Be creative! Try to avoid the "I wanna be the very best" or "Gotta catch 'em all!" rhetoric.
Other Info: If there's anything else to add to your character that might not fit elsewhere. Trivia, Pokemon Wish Lists, family members, etc.
How did you find us?: How did you get to ZapdosZulu? Please provide a link to the ad if possible, and definitely the name of whoever advertised! We like to reward our members for recruiting.

*While we look at length of sections we're not terribly strict as long as the app overall demonstrates an ability to provide enough material for mods to respond to when it comes to posts on your character's journey. Quantity ≠ Quality, but it's hard to reply to one-liners.
