Thoughts on the Egg Move Pools?

EMs/HMs are always passed down [or should be] cause they're free so mods should be checking those all the time. It's only TMs which are optional.

I debated the idea of making them cost something small to breed but the pools aren't really as deep as TMs and tend to be given away for free all the time unlike TMs sooo... We can just change it so Members are responsible for communicating EMs if they want them. That will be a change from now where mods handle/check it.

Would modify the Egg Spawn code like:

There will also need to be some mention of it in the NJPBF Guide. Thinking Section 3.2, 4th bullet? Adding last sentence:

If either parent knows an Egg move of the baby's species, that child will be born knowing the move. These moves fall under the "by breeding" category on Bulbapedia. EMs follow a Gen 4⁺ allowance, so any Egg Move from Gen 4 onward is valid to learn.
*The parent must have known the move before the day the egg would be generated

Note that there’s a lot of high level moves in the level 50’s to even breed down and the time to get there is high enough to cost money

But it's not really different from what is already available for free. Sure Gen 5-7 to now had maybe double the EM pool size for mons on average, but that's still only like a dozen moves. And when we were following those as latest Gen they were all free then. The only reason to suddenly make those same moves, which were previously free save for your time and daycare investment, cost something now is cause they'll be available forever. Which, I don't think that's really a point anyone didn't consider when the cost breakdown was initially made or revamped previously.

Like most things that revolve around member-to-member sales, it's kinda up to Members not to destroy the value of the things they're producing. Hopefully anyone breeding down Hurricane and such aren't selling those babies for a pittance.

I think those tiny adjustments to the forms will communicate things perfectly! <3 I just dunno why Game Freak wants to gut the movesets of certain so bad. Like they love them one gen and the next they cant have any type coverage anymore. It is crazy! lol

Some moves are available as egg move (previous gen) or tm/ reminder in current gen

It’s both going to cost something (heart scale or money/ levels to grind) but it’s matter of which cost you want to take

There isn’t an input to this post but I see no difference. The move isnt free

I getcha. I meant that currently it's always been free to breed an egg with any EM (aside from usual daycare costs); not necessarily free to acquire initially. MotM EMs and Event EMs, like the Spring Surge for example, I suppose you could consider them costing your time if nothing else.


Opening up EMs as Gen 4⁺ could potentially remove a good few steps of chain breeding, which is the officially noted reason for EMs/HMs being free compared to TMs. I've no time to dive in deep and analyze how much it changes, but that could be an aspect in favor of charging for EM passing. Such as, EMs over a certain power cost something, but under that or status moves are still free.

Or, maybe it's not something that should cost the breeder but something we as a community agree to not undersell. The Seller's Guide could be adjusted accordingly. Right now it's just a blanket 'Minimum +$500' suggestion.

By the sound of it, folks are eager to have 4+ egg movepools open and Tiki is concerned about the economy of it. TBH, folks already do charge for EMs usually, esp if they are harder to get (chained/rare pokemon req.) So I am personally not too concerned about it. I just want some pokemon to have a prayer of a chance to get coverage moves. xD Esp mons that I would love to use but their level up pools are as shallow as a puddle and useless without extensive tutoring or TM use. Also, I see a bunch of people who mentioned they had projects they had to suspend out of frustration because they had to give up due to a gen change. It seems silly these pokemon, who could learn these egg moves two years ago, cannot any longer because they were added to the gen 9 dex.

Maybe the best option is just to trust the economy for the time being and adjust if it seems like craziness ensues?

Uh, Tiki, people already pay RT for TMs. This part of a larger whole of the sellers guide. Only the bottom two bits are about egg moves/inherited moves cost.

Yeah, that's a good callout and a nice separation / divide in costs from junk EM moves (looking at you, Tail Whip) and powerhouse EMs everyone would want.

Tiki honestly the cost of RT for a TM move to the breeder (unless the breeder passes that cost onto a customer) is usually enough to have them charge their customer for the trouble. I don't think we need to mention per Seller's Guide since it hasn't been an issue before on people giving away TM babies. Unless I've been sleeping on these giveaways x3
