It felt like it hadn't been that long, and yet it had since his prior arrival at the Bug Catching Contest. The effort of working so hard to get here had been topped off by one of the most idiotic experiences of his life. Well, this time he wasn't intent on making such a novice mistake!
...Thought the guy who was bringing the same pokemon he had last time, really.
Walking in alongside Veluzaur, Vartio could only be hesitant. Last time the Fish pokemon had been deranged from not being allowed to attack everything on sight. Thankfully it was at least obediant... for now. Vartio could only let out a sigh of relief at this fact as they walked into the grass.
Unknownst to Vartio, Veluzaur had thankfully a short term fish brain memory and was instead only looking forwards to Bug meat. The other other other white meat!

Vartio ran into a Pokemon he was slightly familiar with as he waded through the grass in search of a proper Pokemon to capture. The small beetle-like Volbeat was what he encountered before, even if a shiny version. And what he encountered this time was its opposite in basically every form - a standard Illumise.
Sadly for it, Vartio had little desire for this specific bug pokemon. If he hoped to win, he needed something rarer, or at the least, something he'd never seen before. That aside, he knew he would struggle to control Veluzaur if he kept using it. It was a tough choice to have to do, but Vartio let out a sigh. He had to make it up to Veluzaur for last time, didn't he?
"Veluzaur let's get the drop on that bug. Pluck it out of the ground!"
Vartio declared Pluck with Veluzaur.

Veluzaur was a happy fish, chortling and dancing about as the Volbeat had made Team Rocket look like a bunch of amataurs. Light Ball Pikachu eat your hearts out!
Vartio meanwhile let out a slight smile. At the least Veluzaur seemed to enjoy that. Not the best result, but it was a result that would help with keeping an amenable relationship. Walking over he lightly ran his hand over Veluzaur's side.
"Good job. I can't promise everything here's in your lunchbox, but we'll see what we get. Let's go." Vartio stated as he walked past and headed deeper into the grass, hoping to run into at least something interesting.

Vartio let out a sigh, recognizing the Dottler he ran up against. The small bug pokemon would have been more interesting before if he didn't already have one. Another dud in the competition, and Veluzaur looked about ready to hunt.
"Not this one Veluzaur. We'll find something that takes more effort for you."
Vartio let out a sigh of agitation as he turned and walked off, ignoring the bug. However Veluzaur didn't want to move until Vartio walked back over and lightly tugged its front top fin, resulting in hesitant growling as it was pulled away.
"Swear you need to learn to control these urges."
Vartio ran away from Dottler to find another prey!

Caterpie. This time it was a Caterpie. If there was a 0 on a 1-10 scale of interest, it would be this little guy right here. Even Veluzaur recognized it wasn't worth the effort, its face half-lidded as it stared at the Caterpillar-like Pokemon.
"What is my luck with this contest? I probably got a better chance of catching some foreign supervirus that my body's not use to in this world than actually finding something rare it feels like..." Vartio said, lowering his face to squeeze his nose.
"Alright, Veluzaur, let's g-" As Vartio released his nose to look at Veluzaur, it was gone, and swimming away.
"HEY! Holy damn never thought I'd say this but wait up!"
This time Veluzaur doesn't give enough a f. Veluzaur retreated!

The moment the Kricketune came into sight, Vartio didn't even need to make an order. Veluza had been tired of the lack of battle and moreso it felt this was somewhat more interesting prey. It even had the gall to sing! How dare it sing! Singing was something land creatures and Wailmer/Wailord did! That and Krabby but we don't speak of those few!
Veluzaur went pure rabid and launched forwards, its jaws opening wide as it attempted to just bite and yeet the poor little bug type around like it was some sort of cartoon scene complete with dust clouds and pulling it back into its doom!
Veluzaur used pluck, again. Poor bug.

With a "DE LE LE LE LE WHOOOOP!" the poor Krickutune was sent flying across the BCC. Poor thing might even accidentally hit something, but that was for another story. Veluzaur meanwhile looked downright proud of itself having committed Bugacide after running into so many useless whelps. Vartio walked over, having only caught the site of the Kricketune flying off, and looked at Veluzaur.
"You... were really pent up." Vartio stated with a light chuckle as he patted her on her head, nudging his head. "Come on, let's find our last encounter."

Thus encountered the Yang to Vespiqueen's Yin, after having ran into the other at an earlier point. The famous Bee of Blasphemy, known to terrorize mankind here and there. Vartio couldn't help but groan, knowing this would be the end of his contest to begin with. So why bother with coming out with nothing at all?
Vartio tossed a sports ball up and down in his hand while the Beedrill wasn't paying attention, thinking about how strong it was based on its early movements. Yeah, he was certain Veluzaur would be too much.
"Screw it, we end it if things go bad, get ready to defend, Veluzaur." Vartio stated as he opened up with an initial volley of balls.
Attempting to throw Sports Ball twice ala Running Shoes.
