Once more, the time had arrived for Johto's seasonal insect capture expedition. This time around, Kricketune chirped lovely melodies in the background, Dustox fluttered on the autumn breezes, and if one were to look hard enough, they might also see a Durant or two roaming around outside their nests to gather food and other supplies for the upcoming winter months. By this point, most of the other contestants had begun hunting and catching Bug types, and the competition was really heating up. But if any of them thought that their victory was assured, they'd have another thing coming. In this case, the Team Skull grunt known as Shinya Stinger, accompanied by his trusty Joltik, which clung to his right shoulder.
Due to some unforeseen personal issues that had suddenly arisen not too long ago, Shinya and Joltik were running late to the contest, much to their combined annoyance and anxiousness. But as soon as the taxi they called arrived at the National Park, Shinya kicked the door open and bolted out of said mode of transportation faster than Joltik's Thunder attack. Running straight into the tall grass, Shinya's goal was simple and uncomplicated this time around. Track down a strong Bug type Pokemon, capture it, and claim first place in this season's competition. Last time, he and Joltik succeeded in finding and catching a Nymble for their team. But this time, they were simply in it to win it.

Given their goal of winning the whole competition this time around, Shinya and Joltik's first encounter didn't exactly instill them with confidence, to say the least. For the first few seconds, they both looked down at the lone Cocoon Pokemon with one eyebrow raised on each of their faces. Clearly, they weren't even the least bit intimidated by this Cascoon at all. "Uhhh...This guy knows that it can't physically put 'em up itself, right, boss?" Joltik asked her trainer in a knowing tone, jumping down from his shoulder afterward, expecting the order to attack to come very soon. Perhaps this Cascoon was so confident because it was bigger than Joltik. But it would soon learn that underestimating Shinya's Joltik was a dangerous mistake to make.
In response to Joltik's question, Shinya merely shrugged his shoulders, not really bothering to take the wild Bug type seriously either. "Meh. Who cares anyway? This thing ain't gonna net us nearly enough points to win this contest, Joltik. Just blast it with your Thunder, then let's keep lookin' for somethin' better." At Shinya's command, Joltik's tiny body immediately began to surge with massive amounts of electricity, while all four of her eyes locked onto her target. "You got it, boss! This one ain't worth our time, but maybe it'll make some good experience if nothin' else!" The Attaching Pokemon's electrical energy continued to build up, until it was all release in one massive burst, heading straight for the foolish Cascoon that had decided to call out Team Skull.
OOC: Running Shoes used if needed. Two Thunder attacks.

Cascoon let loose a sound not unlike popping open a soda preceeding the swift thunderous strike of the heavens that came down upon it. There was a mild sizzling silence around the park for a moment following the empty scorched space now blackening some of the grass. A tumble of tall grass around the edges had been flattened. Presumably from the rotund cocoon being forcibly ejected from the scene.  Joltik gained 650 XP! (2273/2437) |

And just like that, Team Skull's first encounter of this season's Bug Catching Contest had come and gone almost as fast as the bolt of lightning that did the job. Being that the Cascoon was so weak and underwhelming, neither Shinya nor Joltik dwelled on their victory for very long, turning towards another stretch of tall grass. "Well, that was borin'. I really hope the next bug we find will be more interestin', boss." Joltik commented, hopping back up onto Shinya's right shoulder, as Shinya himself began to walk towards the new area he had selected. "You and me both, Joltik. Things like cocoons and worms ain't gonna win this contest for us. But whatever. I ain't worried. We've still got four more left here. Not to jinx it, but the odds are definitely still in our favor." The Bug type trainer declared, hoping that he was right and that their next encounter would be something more substantial.

Given her incredible eyesight, Joltik caught sight of the glistening shed shell right away, turning towards it and immediately pointing it out to her trainer. "Hey, boss! Over there! Lookie!" Being that she was still clinging to his shoulder, Shinya heard her loud and clear, coming to a stop and turning in the direction that she pointed out himself. Growing curious, the Team Skull grunt narrowed his eyes slightly and ventured closer to the shining light his Pokemon spotted. "Well, well, well. What do we have here?" Shinya questioned out loud, as he and Joltik were just a few feet away from their latest encounter in just a few short seconds. Unfortunately, this encounter still wasn't anything special in Shinya's eyes. "Hmmm...Better, but still not what we're lookin' for. Though, I gotta admit, this does pain me on a certain level. Just a little bit though. Joltik, ya know what to do." Shinya spoke in an uninterested tone as he looked down at the wild Venipede before him, then glanced at his trusty Attaching Pokemon as he gave her another set of orders in his own way. "Yup! I know exactly what to do, boss! Don't worry! This shouldn't take too long at all!" Still as enthusiastic as ever, Joltik happily nodded at her boss, then leaped right off of his shoulder to meet the Poison/Bug type in battle. And anyone who knew these two would also know what was coming next, as Joltik's entire body quickly sparked with high levels of electricity. All aimed right at Venipede. OOC: Okay, I'm a little confused. So, help me out here. Since the shiny roll for this encounter was 42, doesn't that mean that this Venipede should be shiny? Or is it only shiny if the roll was 1? I'm not entirely sure how it works. If it IS shiny, then Joltik will use Thunder Wave. But if it's NOT, then Running Shoes used with two Thunder attacks. Much appreciated. EDIT: Got it. Thanks for the clarification, Professor Oak. In that case, as I said before, Running Shoes used. Two Thunder attacks. |

Watching as the wild Venipede suffered a devastating Thunder attack right after it shed its skin, Shinya couldn't help but cringe, imagining the pure agony that the Centipede Pokemon must've been enduring. But at the same time, given his nature, he couldn't help chuckling a little as well. "Hehehe...Never gets old. Impressive work as usual, Joltik. Now, we've still got three chances left for a decent catch. So, c'mon. Let's get back to searchin'." Shinya reminded his Bug/Electric type, then turned to walk off in another direction, while Joltik quickly skittered up his right leg and onto his right shoulder once again. "Right on, boss! I hope we find a Durant! Or another Scyther! Either would be SO cool!" Joltik stated with high levels of excitement and anticipation in her voice, already looking forward to Team Skull's third encounter of the contest.

Having been born and raised in the Alola region, Shinya had seen more than his share of Cutieflys over the years. And althought they were indeed Bug types; they still held no interest to the Team Skull grunt. After all, Team Skull was supposed to strike fear into the hearts of their adversaries, which would be kind of hard to pull off with such an adorable and harmless-looking Pokemon around. As such, Shinya once again made no attempts to even reach for his Sport Balls, and instead commanded Joltik to strike down the Bee Fly Pokemon with yet another Thunder attack. Once more, Joltik happily obeyed, jumping off of Shinya's shoulder, generating massive amounts of electricity, and sending it all towards the wild Cutiefly.
OOC: Running Shoes used again if needed. Two Thunders.

With Joltik's incredible eyesight, thanks to her ability, it really wasn't fair. Normally, Thunder was the kind of move that often missed its mark and never struck the same place twice. But thanks to Compound Eyes, Shinya possessed a truly devastating weapon in the form of a small, fluffy, and adorable little bug. "I've said it before, and I'll say it a million times more. I'll never get tired of watchin' ya do that to chumps, Joltik." Shinya remarked, chuckling to himself a bit as he enjoyed the Attaching Pokemon's latest display of power. "Only the best for the future leader of Team Skull! Now, let's hurry up and go! We've only got two chances left to win this thing, boss!" Joltik excitedly replied, then skittered back up onto Shinya's shoulder, as they both resumed their search for a good enough Bug type to show the judges. OOC: lol I know, right?! Easily one of my favorite abilities, Tarlar!  |

Needless to say, both Shinya and Joltik were disappointed with their fourth encounter of the competition, looking down at the insignificant Bug type in front of them with disapproving looks in their eyes. "Seriously? Is this really the best fate can do for us right now?" Joltik questioned this result, having lost most of her excitement in her current state of mind. Clearly, the heat was now on for Team Skull, but Shinya was never one to give up easily. "Well, this little scrub is still good for one thing. Joltik, zap it into next week and feast on its experience." Just like the last three encounters, Joltik leapt off of Shinya's right shoulder, face the wild Weedle, and built-up high levels of electrical energy before sending it all towards the Hairy Bug Pokemon.
OOC: Running Shoes used yet again. Two more Thunder attacks.
