This is due to the fact no threat has actually been taken into action against him yet, so he has no sense of what a real threat entails (Martin will set this straight at some point). August is a capable battler, and enjoy the rush of drawing the opponent around by the noose with his trickery.

Zaiden gets +400 to the Seel egg; Sentret to Level 5 + Defense Curl; Spearow to Level 6.

The levels aren't quite right, but double battles exp are complicated ^^
Baunsu gets +3lvl from lvl4 wurmple, and +3 level from lvl3 wurmple. That has to be "shared" with the partner, so in double battles it is divided with 2: 3/2=1,5 & 3/2=1,5 -> 1,5+1,5=3 level
So Baunsu grows +3 levels from this battle, and still learns Defense Curl ^^

Hageshii gets +3lvl from lvl4 wurmple, and +2lvl from lvl3 Wurmple. 3/2=1,5 & 2/2=1 -> 1,5+1=2,5, we always round up in this cases to that becomes 3 as well. Still doesn't learn any new moves ^^

Note: From what I found from one of the old Pokemon Games, Fossils were stored in the Key Items. I wasn't sure, but since here fossils individually can be more than one item, I figured the catch-all "item" area may be better?
