[[OOC: The RNG and Damage calculator were feeling generous. O.O My brain, however, wasn’t and this post is barely worth reading. :/
EDIT: Ooh, awesome. x3 I was gutted I couldn’t do an evolution. I’ll take it you want him to evolve then? :] All fixed in any case.]]
Roland frowned at Tanya, insulted by the trainer’s words. Who did she think she was answering him back like that? She’d regret it all when her Skarmory was his. Tanya’s arrogance wasn’t going to get her anywhere. “You’ll pay for calling me little,” Roland roared, obviously insecure about his height.
“Show that Torchic what you’re made of– Poison Sting, now!” the boy ordered. He was taking this battle very seriously and for some reason thought that the other trainer would hand over her Pokémon once he’d beaten her.
Nidoran♂’s speed was the only thing that kept him going. The poison pin Pokémon quickly rushed at his opponent, directing his horn at Ignitus’s body. The Torchic cringed as he felt a small amount of poison rush through his body. Roland was going to have to do a lot better than that though.
In retaliation, Ignitus unleashed a powerful Flamethrower attack on his opponent. The Torchic had raised its chances of getting a Critical Hit and in the end it paid off. The fire-type move scorched the Nidoran♂’s body and did enough damage to knock him out in one go.
“B-but, this can’t happen!”” the Camper yelled. He hadn’t even gotten a proper chance. The boy was ready to let Tanya have it but realising he was out of Pokémon; he decided to make a run for it. Things had definitely not gone to plan.
As Roland dashed off, not looking back for a second time, he tripped over his lace and landed flat on his face. Not realising he’d dropped some money; he proceeded to run off again. The £144 he’d dropped wasn’t anything he’d miss so Ignitus figured it’d be some nice prize money for his trainer.
Camper Roland was defeated and Tanya received £144 for winning!
Ignitus grew to Level 16 and wants to learn Peck! Forget an older move to make room?
Congratulations! Ignitus evolved into a Combusken!

(Dropping Scratch for Peck, and Double Kick will replace Growl, 'cause I just remembered Combusken learns that when it evolves xD)
Even with Roland letting his immaturity clearly show when he shouted back at her, Tanya couldn't keep the grin off of her face as Ignitus sprayed the air with fire. The boy's Pokémon was able to strike first, but once the scorching flames reached it, the battle was sealed.
She snorted wildly with barely suppressed mirth as the poor Poison type was burnt to a crisp. It hadn't even lasted a moment against the deluge of super-heated flames her Torchic unleashed. When Roland panicked and turned to run, Tanya felt a momentary twinge of pity, replaced by humour again as the boy tripped in his hurry to flee the scene.
It had been his fault for challenging her, and she wasn't going to feel bad for beating him. Ignitus padded over with her money that had fallen from the boy's pocket, which she bent gently to retrieve. As she straightened up, she got the shock of a lifetime.
Ignitus had taken on a bright white glow, shining brighter and brighter until it forced her to close her eyes against the intensity. When it faded, the girl was no longer looking down on a small chicken, but a tall, lanky bird.
A crest of feathers rose from the top of his head in a reddish orange color, while his head and torso were clad in yellow-orange feathers. His legs were the same orange-red color as his head crest, and they ended with a pair of powerful looking feet, each tipped with strong looking talons. Ignitus blinked his dark orange eyes and looked down at himself, letting out a squawk of surprise as he saw he'd sprouted a pair of arms, both sprouting three claws on the end.
"Combus?" the newly evolved Combusken asked his trainer, confused at what just happened. He noticed her exuberant grin and nearly yelped when she dropped to her knees and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.
When she managed to speak, her voice was full of nothing but pride. "Oh wow Iggy, you evolved! This is awesome!" Tanya gushed. The Combusken relaxed a little, understanding the concept of evolving.
Slowly, he began to feel proud that he'd accomplished such a feat and made a squawk of happiness. Tanya withdrew her arms and beamed at him again, her emerald eyes dazzlingly bright. She gently plucked the barely hanging Lucky Egg from his neck and stowed it in her pocket, patting Ignitus on the shoulder. "This has been a really good day, hasn't it?" the girl said to herself, still feeling rather giddy. Ignitus smiled and poked his trainer's shoulder.
Jolted, Tanya looked at him questioningly. He yawned widely as if to enunciate his point, letting her know he was feeling rather tired. The girl recalled him without hesitation and stowed his ball away, still feeling extremely energetic now that she'd witnessed her first evolution.
As she rose to her feet, her head tilted to the sky. It was streaked by rose and orange hues, speaking of incoming night. Biting her lip on a disappointed sigh, Tanya began to trudge back towards the city. She wouldn't be able to train Starscream at this time if she wanted to get to the trading center before sundown. As if sensing her plans, her phone beeped in her pants pocket and made her pause. Pulling it out, she flipped it open and smiled lightly as she read the offer for her Shellos. Well, that was one less thing to worry about now.
"Give in my friend, give me good good times around the bend," Tanya sang softly under her breath as she walked into Violet City once more, hair swishing behind her with the skip in her steps.
It had been a really good day.

WHOEVER PUNTED THIS TO THE ARCHIVES, I WILL FIND YOU AND RIP YOUR SOUL OUT YOUR NOSE. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The last few days had been exhausting as all hell. The gym battle alone had drained her, but the training she'd been doing on the sly had just about knocked her on her butt. Even with summer in full force, she had been out with her team and done some rigid training to prepare them for the road to Azalea Town. They'd have to pass through Union Cave to get there, though, and that meant that scaredy-cat Saphira was the only one allowed out of her ball.
Of course, there was always the one.
After throwing a hissy fit that would put a candy-starved toddler denied their requests to shame, Tempesta strolled in front of her trainer as Tanya's little posse departed the city. As requested by Fulton, she'd locked up his apartment and put the key in an envelope that now sat in his mailbox. "I hope he reads the letter I left too. Painting over Starscream's scar was a cheap thing to do," she muttered furiously under her breath, ignoring the slightly alarmed look of a morning jogger passing her in the opposite direction.
She was dressed in her favourite long-sleeved shirt again, paired with her usual jeans and black boots combo. Playing dress up was fine, but this was a style that was comfortable and familiar, and didn't attract any unwarranted attention. Her hair, however, was slicked back into a neat pony tail that rested low on the back of her head, leaving the swept-back auburn hair to tickle her shoulders and rest snugly on top of her bouncing backpack.
Her bangs remained untouched and framed her face, keeping its heart shape intact. But it was morning, what did she care how she looked to other people? Most people looked like crap when they woke up, but that was only if they hated the time of day. Tanya found it refreshing, after some caffeine mind you, and liked how quiet it could be.
Tempesta, still a fair distance ahead of her trainer, perked up as she saw a looming mass of gray and brown not far from where she walked. Excited, the Buizel sped off without so much as a warning, leaving Tanya and Saphira to shout and run after her. Both were wheezing as they caught up to the orange otter, doubled over just before the looming darkness that opened up like a maw. A signboard nearby proclaimed the vivid darkness as the entrance to Union Cave. Recovering herself somewhat, Tanya stood up properly and gazed into the gloom, squinting her gemstone eyes as if the gesture could help her see. "Well dang. Saphira, you're up," the fiery-haired girl declared, glancing to her left to find her Fire type partner.
Only to see Saphira's head in the ground. It was excruciatingly hard not to let her irritation show through on her face. Kneeling down, Tanya tugged on the lizard's shoulders and freed her from the ground, spinning her Charmeleon around to stare her dead on in the eye. "It's time to... nut up or shut up," the girl said after a moment, her face completely and utterly serious. Saphira's eye twitched, causing her trainer's facade to shatter and leave a snickering and giggling girl in its wake. "Ah c'mon Saphy, it's just a cave. Plus, Tempesta's gonna be the one doing all the fighting, so just stick close to me and we'll be through it in no time."
Her impromptu pep talk seemed to cheer Saphira's spirits, making her nod and smile meekly. "BUI!" came a loud voice, making trainer and Pokémon to jump. Tanya's Buizel jabbed a paw impatiently into the yawning darkness and padded closer, waiting for the light source to walk in. Steeling their nerves, Tanya and Saphira squared their shoulders and walked in behind Tempesta, letting the blackness swallow them whole.
After a while of walking, Tanya really appreciated having her Charmeleon nearby. Though the cave was easy enough to manage, the lack of light could really get at you and make one real paranoid fast. "Darker than the dead of night on a new moon in a blacked-out city," the girl murmured quietly, keeping her eyes roving. She didn't want any booger monsters leaping out at her from the darkness without seeing them first.

Even with the gentle glow of Saphira's tail, Union Cave was dark, very very dark. The light only stretched a few feet, leaving the rest of the cave a black enigma. Although it was almost impossible too see more then a few yards ahead the cave was full of noise. The echoing sound of droplets of water falling from the ceiling provided a gentle background sound to the soft cooing and murmuring of the rock pokemon. On occasion the a pokemon would make a eerie grinding noise, that echoed through out the cave.
It did not take long for the denizens of the cave to notice Tanya, she stood out like a sore thumb in the cave. She was bright, she had a source of light. The local zubat avoided the girl like the plague. They where creatures of the night, and the bright light from Saphira's tail offended their sense. The zubat would occasionally cry out in defiance of the light. Their ear piercing screeched echoed through out the cave.
A wild Onix was aroused from it's slumber by the cries of the zubat. The chain of living boulders was not amused. It thought of itself as the most powerful denizen of Union Cave, and as such saw itself as the sole ruler of the cave. And to be awoke from it's nap by some lowly Zubats was an annoyance it could not ignore. Onix slowly stretched as it uncoiled itself, and slithered towards the source of the commotion.
Onix raised an eye brow as it saw some human girl with two strange pokemon. The Lord of Union Cave never saw either of the pokemon before, one seemed to be made of fire, and the other was this awkward looking orange thing. Yet it didn't care about the strength of Tanya or her pokemon. It was confident it could crush them and drive the three out of his domain with his own strength.
The Rock Snake let out a shattering roar. The cave shook in response, lose debris fell from the ceiling causing a thick layer of small rocks and sand to fill the air. The Onix barreled forward, intent on taking out the girl and her pokemon. The ground shook beneath him as the Lord of Union Cave charged towards Tanya. It was intent on taking out the trainer first, so that the pokemon would be harmless.
Tanya encountered a wild Onix!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - While her trainer and comrade walked on quietly behind her, Tempesta kept her senses alert and at the ready. Perhaps it was simply good intuition, or some sort of forewarning of what was about to rear its ugly head. The otter's nose twitched as she walked, finding a faint scent that overpowered those of the screeching Zubat overhead, whose odour was most abundant throughout the cave. This scent... this one was different. And it was enough to have her concerned.
Saphira stuck close to her trainer, tail held as straight as possible to keep the light from dancing everywhere. At least it held the Zubat at bay so that they didn't come fluttering in and bite her or her trainer. Tanya was fine with bats when they weren't trying to bite. She wasn't the sort to freak out over the mere thought of having a bat tangled in her air. The consequences would be amusing, actually, but annoying - getting the bat out of her hair would be a gigantic pain in the ass. So amused by her own train of thought, the girl didn't even noticed the ground and walls begin to quiver with the arrival of their next battle.
A small stream of dust from the ceiling erupted in front of Tempesta, who sneezed and paused, looking ahead cautiously. Hot, stinking wind suddenly blasted her back several steps, followed by a nearly deafening, earth-shaking roar. Saphira yelped loudly, immediately driving her head into the (thankfully) soft earth wall. Tanya jumped at the roar, holding an arm up over her face to stifle the smell of the creature's breath.
The flickering light cast by Saphira's shaking tail shed enough light for the girl and her Buizel to discern the origin of the roar to be a rather pissed off looking Onix whose bulk seemed to take up most of the tunnel. Staring at it, Tanya could only raise her eyebrows in surprise.
"Well, hell."
It was big, made of rocks, and pretty angry. That usually equaled a terrible mess for people. But it was a Rock and Ground dual type, which meant that what could have been a big problem was as simple as one, two three. Tempesta stood before her trainer, her entire posture screaming defensiveness, arms held slightly away from her body. The otter's tails had started drumming against the cave floor, rotating gently as the Water type stared down the large rock snake. Her trainer had promised to give her some training, and it looked like that promise was about to be upheld.
Tanya smiled faintly, trotting forwards and reaching into her jeans pocket, withdrawing the familiar Lucky Egg from its depths. Kneeling behind Tempesta, the fiery-haired teen fiddled around with the knot at the back of her Buizel's bandanna, securing the Egg into it before patting it gently and hurrying over to where Saphira stood with a certain amount of haste.
Not even batting an eyelash, Tempesta began to jog on the spot, throwing mock punches in the air, as she oft did before firing off an attack. The habit caused a full grin to cross Tanya's face as she raised her right arm and splayed her fingers in the Onix's direction. "I don't think this rock knows what it's dealing with! Tempesta, douse its fiery spirit with a good ol' Water Gun!" she called out, keeping her voice modulated. The last thing she wanted was a cave in on her head.
Tempesta leapt forwards, her mouth open wide to expose a pair of sharp little fangs that became obscured by a pressurized blast of water that she fired right at the Onix's face. Perhaps if the move didn't take it down, it would help slow down the rock beast's reaction time and let her get in another quick blow.

Onix watched with an Icy stare as Tanya tied the lucky egg to her Buizel, securing it before stepping back. The air in the cave was still and hard to breath in for most people and Pokémon that didn’t dwell in the cave day and night, but Onix had no problem with it. Its tail clattered as its entire body rattled impatiently, waiting for the Trainer and her Pokémon to make a move. Though, it kind of wished it hadn’t been so eager to meet the Buizel’s attack as Tanya ordered a water gun from her partner. Tempesta summoned the water from the giant core of liquid in her body, the blast obscuring her fangs as she allowed the water to leave the confines of her small body. Onix screeched as the water hit its face with all the force of a hose turned on to full blast. For any Pokémon that wasn’t made of rocks, the attack may have done less damage, but it did a lot more damage to Onix than it would have liked. Tempesta had already taken out over half its HP in just the first attack! It obviously hadn’t been getting enough battles in. Tempesta was satisfied enough however, as she landed back on the hard ground in front of Tanya. Looking back at the Onix, she scoffed quietly to herself. Obviously, that move had done a lot of damage, but the fact that it didn’t take the Onix out was sort of vexing. Maybe one more attack would do it, but she noted that she had to try to add more force to her water gun in the future. “Onnn…” The giant rock structured Pokémon rumbled out. It was becoming very annoyed by the Buizel’s state of thought and now decided to launch its attack. Lifting its giant tail, the Onix gave it a slight twist before smashing it into the ground, rock on rock. The rock below its tail broke up, and was flung promptly into Tempesta’s direction. Tempesta, eager not to be thrown back by the giant rocks, dug her feet into the ground. She covered her face with her arms and took the hit as it came, rock after rock smashing into her form. A smaller rock made a nick in her bandana, and there was no telling (from Onix’s perspective) if that would have made her angry or not. Once the rocks stopped coming, Tempesta uncovered her face, glowering in dissatisfaction at the cave dweller. _____________________________________________________ Battle!Wild Onix |Level 14| Health: 39% (13/33 HP)Status: Normal Attack: A successful Rock Throw. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was naive to think that a simple squirt of water could bring down the rocky leviathan, and Tanya was right in guessing that it still had enough pep to ***** at the sharp decline of its health and hit back. And when something as big as a city bus with enough strength to punch through cars had a tantrum, it was a pretty interesting, and dangerous, sight.
Tempesta landed firmly on the ground, her sky blue eyes keeping tabs on the hurt Onix's movements. She allowed herself to feel a moment of brief smugness at having already dealt enough damage to nearly knock out the beast. The smirk had barely crossed her face when she thought hard about the force of her attack, and it vanished.
Next time she'd do better. It wasn't about proving her strength to her trainer, but to assuage her ego. Not being able to down everything in one shot stung. Tanya raised an eyebrow at Tempesta's apparent lack of concern about the progress of the battle and made a mental note to have some sort of talk with the otter later. Her attention was drawn by the Onix's groan, and the girl looked up in time to see the snake slam its tail on the ground to punch up some rocks.
And then they were flung in Tempesta's direction, although it didn't stop them from whizzing right by Tanya's head. Yelping, the auburn-haired girl ducked and put her hands over her head, gaze held steadily on the back of her trusty Water type. The Buizel had managed to stave off any severe injury by flinging up her arms, but the attack had still hurt enough to leave her snorting gently in pain.
"You okay Tempe?" Tanya asked, rising to a sitting position on the cave floor. The light from Saphira's tail flickered as the Charmeleon shuddered and withdrew her head, gasping for air. The shock hadn't quite worn off, and the lizard crouched down behind her trainer, sapphire eyes staring worriedly in the Onix's direction. The girl patted Saphira on the muzzle, still watching Tempesta's back as the Buizel shook herself, scowling in the rock snake's direction. Her head turned towards her trainer and dipped down once, assuring the girl that she was hale and hearty.
(Good. Now let's drop this beast before it drops the ceiling on our heads.) Tanya put her hands on the ground and pushed herself to standing, brushing the dust from her pants off before returning attention to the Onix. There was no point in breaking down the situation when she knew perfectly well that one more Water Gun would easily end this.
"Same as before, darling. Once more with Water Gun!" Tanya ordered with her signature hand flick. Taking a deep breath, the orange otter centered herself before leaning forwards ever so slightly, mouth open. Drawing out the moment as long as she could, Tempesta held the pose for just a little longer before a jet of water arced through the air, directed at the leviathan's face once more.

Tempesta gave a flick of her pronged tail, and once she received Tanya’s orders, she crossed her arms and examined the Onix momentarily. If she fainted it, the Onix would be sitting there, obstructing their path and preventing them from moving any farther. That would be a shame, though she also could have been wrong. She stayed in place this time, but the arch of water came into view once more. Onix saw it coming, yet it was too big and too slow to avoid the move. It raised its tail, hoping to kick up more rocks to avoid the blunt force of the water, but the water got to it before it could even make a move. Soaking through the hardened gray rocks of its body, the water thoroughly tired Onix out. It loomed above Tanya and Tempesta for a moment, before falling backwards and hitting the cave floor with a loud bang. Tempesta had an easy time taking out the rock type, and her type advantage was certainly to thank for that. The Buizel flicked her tail again, staring at the knocked out Onix now obstructing their path. She had to wonder what there was to do now. Onix blocked their path and there wasn’t really another wat out. That was when Onix’s eyes snapped open. It panted heavily, lifting its heavy body back off of the floor. Momentarily, it stared down at Tanya and Tempesta, giving both of them a final fleeting glance before slinking away slowly, the energy loss getting to its head now. It needed some rest. Now the path was clear, and Tanya was free to either wander around the cave some more, or leave and continue on her journey. Tempesta felt a newer power inside of her, like some kind of new move she couldn’t unlock just yet. Maybe another battle at some point in the future would drag that move out, but for now, the weasel looked up at Tanya, waiting for her decision. ______________________________________________________ InfoWild Onix has been defeated! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The wait was fairly short as her Buizel studied up the Onix and puzzled out something. Seconds later the same thought occurred to Tanya - that great rocky snake would become a big road block if they took it down right there. But something nagged at her from the back of her mind, something she'd read in one of her many study sessions...
It failed to appear in time before Tempesta's attack struck down the mighty serpent, causing it to rear up over their heads, head scraping the ceiling before it collapsed in a heap in front of them. Saphira winced and clutched at her trainer's legs, totally certain that it would instantly rise from its slumber and gobble them up.
Tanya stared long and hard at the Onix, her emerald eyes assessing the size of its body. Climbing over it would be a fairly novel idea, but Saphira wouldn't do it, and given that she possessed the only light source, the idea became moot. She bit down on a sigh, casting her eyes elsewhere and trying to think it out some more when the Onix groaned again and slunk out of their way after a momentary glance in their direction. Tempesta spat on the ground and crossed her arms again, though this time her face was plastered with a big smirk.
Stretching, the otter wondered about the gentle surge of power that promised something sweet, but seemed to be just out of reach. If she got another battle in, perhaps she'd learn, but sticking around in this dank, musty cave wasn't something she was keen on doing. Tanya, if she could read the Buizel's thoughts, would agree wholeheartedly. Something about the cave unnerved her.
(I wanted to train Angelus a little, but that can wait until we get closer to Azalea Town. She doesn't have as many advantages with Rock and Ground types like Tempesta does.) Her drama queen Buneary would only throw a tantrum if she were expected to battle under such conditions anyways. The auburn haired youth shrugged her shoulders and beckoned to Tempesta, who obeyed and trotted over to her trainer, looking curious. "Good job out there hun. I'll take the Lucky Egg back," was all Tanya said, not meeting the inquiring gaze of her Water type.
She wasn't going to press the issue of getting the impatient, stubborn Buizel back into her ball. A long walk would do Tempesta good. The otter turned around and allowed her trainer to reclaim the experience boosting item and store it safely in her pocket. "Okay Saphira, you big chicken, time to keep moving. Tempe will make sure no great, hulking beasties get the better of us," Tanya informed her Charmeleon in highly amused tones, curling her fingers in towards herself to call the timid lizard over. Tempesta puffed out her chest proudly and spun on her heel to lead the way as the trio of girls proceeded through Union Cave to make landfall in the cheerful Azalea Town.
