Joey was about to have an outburst over the hag's indifference to what he was saying but was promptly stopped as the old bag began being seemingly straight with him. Joey was not a person to be one upped all the time so he was usually able to judge whether or not what a person was saying was genuine but in this case he decided to follow what she was saying as the truth. "So the Rockets, being the criminal scum they are are holding somebody hostage... Figures." He spat on the ground and narrowed his eyes at the thought. "They've been around for years now. Years! Yet they're still pullin' this kinda bullcrap."
He carefully deliberated over her words and got the general gist of the plan. "Right, let me set this straight. You can't go as they'll kill your grandson, so instead you send a rather ravishing thief such as myself, to go in their and beat the stuffing outta that Rocket?" He hummed to himself as he nodded his head from side to side and grinned. "Alright, sounds good. I wanna rescue my Doopliss AND seek some retribution for that stunt he pulled with the spores on me... I'll show him you can paralyse someone without such cheap tricks..." He cracked his knuckles, more so loudly than ever and stopped before he realised that one day he is seriously going to harm his fists.
As the hag proposed a battle he raised an eyebrow and decided to question what she was doing. "Sure... I wouldn't mind settling a quick payback and in turn strengthening my abilities but... Is that a wise move considering that Rocket is making his way through the cave? Don't get me wrong, i'm a fast bugger when I want to be so I can likely catch up..." He paused and shrugged nonchalantly. "'Kay, battle it is." His hand reached for a certain Pokeball which he had used in the previous match and sent it forward. "Cynda, go!" His Cyndaquil released itself from the ball and twitched its eyes at the hag. Slightly unsure of what turn of events that had just happened. Deciding to thwart his Pokemon's confusion, he ordered a command to focus its mind. "Prepare an Ember for when the old gal sends out her Pokemon!"
OOC: Sure, up until Goldenrod works fine. After Joey catches up with the Rocket and whatever the result of the ensuing fight, I wouldn't mind have a quick backtrack in Route 32 as well as the Cave to just grab some wild Pokemon. There's a few here which tickle my fancy. ;_;

The Hag reached into her sleeve and withdrew a black pokeball with large green spots. A thin orange line wrapped around the crease, where the typical black was. "Prepare for battle my Misdreavus!" The old woman said as she threw the dusk ball in front of her. With a flash of black light, Misdreavus danced out.
"Misdreavus, stop that ember with you're confuse ray!" The Hag ordered her ghost pokemon. The screech pokemon danced around Cyndaquil. The ember mouse tilted it's head in confusion, "Cynda?" it whispered to its self, as it tried to track Misdreavus' movements.
A small gas orb emerged out of the screech pokemon's head. The deep purple orb clumsily floated towards Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil, curios to see what it was, reached its head towards the ball. The gas orb floated inside of Cyndaquil, causing it to become confused. The ember pokemon stumbled back wards in confusion, tripping over a rock in the process.
"Cynda...." Cyndaquil cried in pain as it hit its head on a rather large rock. The Hag had a smug look on her face. "Lets see how you handle confusion youngster!" The Hag taunted, trying to enrage Joey.

Joey watched carefully as the hag unleashed her Pokemon for the battle. He faltered slightly at her using a Pokeball that he had not seen before. He had come across her Sableye which had an entirely different ball and her Roselia was currently perched on the old woman's shoulder. So what could this new Pokemon be? He gulped quietly to himself as what flew out of the Pokeball was a Misdreavus, a pure Ghost type Pokemon and something Joey had never encountered before. As it performed the move Confuse Ray, Joey watched in an almost mesmerised fashion. The confusing ray flashed in front of Cyndaquil and left him looking out of it almost completely. As Cyndaquil took an unpleasant trip and whacked its head on a rock Joey slapped his forehead.
"Oh Cynda... Bring it together! Try and concentrate...!" Joey paused, almost as if the advice he had given was useless. Just from peering at the ray sent forth by the Misdreavus, even HE felt slightly whimsical. As the hag taunted Joey he looked at her all dopey. "Huuuuuh...?" He paused with his mouth ajar slightly before snapping together and realising the ball was now in his court. "Dammit... Next time, i'm gonna have to avoid that move." He looked to Cyndaquil who was now barely holding still on the spot and announced his orders. "Okay, pal. I know you're confused but just cough up a fiery Ember and aim it at that ghostie thing over there." Cyndaquil nodded and began coughing up an Ember to pelt the illusive Ghost type with.

"Ho ho ho!" The Hag said, covering her mouth with a paper fan that she pulled out of her sleeve. "Now Misdreavus astonish that Cyndaquil!" The Hag finished, clearly proud of her favorite pokemon. Misdreavus turned its head away from Cyndaquil, preparing it's attack.
Cyndaquil saw this as its oppurtinity and began to build the firery embers within its mouth. Before the ember pokemon could fire it's attack, Misdreavus turned around revealing its new twisted features. It looked as if some one took a surgical knife, quarter a pound of red play-do and went crazy on the screech pokemon's face. Cyndaquil's eyes widened in horror as it exaimened it's opponents face.
Seeing Cyndaquil's reaction, a wide tooth grin appear on Misdreavus' face. "MIIISDREAVUS!" The ghost pokemon shouted out at Cyndaquil. As Misdreavus cried out, invisble sound waves emerged from its body. The waves then lashed out at Cyndaquil, slamming it into the ground. Cyndaquil struggled to get up, but it was still trying to over come the horror that was Misdreavus' face.

OOC: That's not so good to know. I guess i'll just have to bide it out. As the hag barked out her next move, the peculiarly named Astonish attack, Joey raised an eyebrow. This was yet another move that he was unfamiliar with an was unsure how to proceed. Deciding it was best to experience it first-hand, he focused intently on the foe's Misdreavus. As Cyndaquil was slowly readying its attack, the Misdreavus saw this opportunity and made a pre-emptive strike. The eerie Pokemon thrusted its contorted face at Joey and Cyndaquil, leaving Cyndaquil flinching in terror and making even Joey quake in his boots. The ghastly sight was still lingering in Joey's mind even after the Misdreavus had finished but he did his best to steel his nerves. He clenched his fists and tried to snap Cyndaquil out of its confusion and fear. "Come on, Cynda! Don't fail me now. Remember how we teamed up and beat the odds against Sprout Tower?" Feeling as if he was onto something in an attempt to rouse the Cyndaquil's spirits, Joey continued. "It was thanks to both of our teamwork that we managed to take down your life long rival. The fact you could do that shows you have the ability to overcome anything!" Joey pointed to the Misdreavus. "If you can get just one good Ember on it..." The Cynda nodded in a dizzy manner, still feeling particularly confused and began preparing another batch of embers to attempt to burn its enemy with.

The Hag's eye narrowed as she carefully observed her opponent's pokemon. "Now Misdreavus, wait for Cyndaquil's attack. Then use Spite!" The Hag commanded. Misdreavus nodded to let it's trainer know that it understood her orders.
Cyndaquil howled as it fought through it's confusion. Finally managing to gain enough of it's sense back, Cyndaquil fired off a round of embers. The embers flew through the air, hitting Misdreavus in the chest. The ghost pokemon floated back a bit, and cried in pain.
Misdreavus fought through the pain in order to deliver it's attack. A wicked smile spread across Misdreavu's face as it grew in size. Cyndaquil looked away, afraid of it's opponent. Little did the ember pokemon know that it's energy was being sucked away.
The Hag let out a wild laugh. "Ho ho ho! Spite is one of my Misdreavus' specialties. It takes away the power behind an attack. Soon Cyndaquil will be unable to use ember. And from what I be tit has no other attack that can harm my precious ghost!" The Hag said, confident in her abilities as a trainer. Battle

OOC: It's perfectly fine. Still, i'm curious how you're going to work Spite into this forum's battle system. We don't have the system in use so mind explaining to me how you're gonna make Spite work? I don't want to overlook something and slip up. BIC: Joey felt at unease at the battling style of this Misdreavus. Up until now he had faced trainers who preferred their attacks to be that of a direct nature but Misdreavus was showing there was strength to be had in confusion and status problems. He shook his head in order to try and clear his mind. " No... Pull yourself together. This is your first time battling a Ghost type. Of course its gonna be weird..." Ironically, it was about get much weirder. The move Spite seemed to work oddly, with the Ghost Pokemon being hit by the opponents attack and then draining the very move it was hit with in power. As Misdreavus' spite dampened Cyndaquil's efforts, Joey felt the belittling effects himself. The bitter situation the hag had been forced into by the Rockets was now becoming all too clear. "Dammit... Who knew these attacks would have such an effect on me too. I need to keep focused..." He muttered under his breath as he morosely looked at the floor. He lifted his eyes and looked directly at his Cyndaquil. "We can keep this up. You just have to build some faith in yourself, Cynda!" The Cyndaquil nodded, impartially. Everything Joey was saying seemed to be gobbledegook. "Show 'em how our hearts burn! Ember!" Joey pointed yet again at the Misdreavus with the same old attack. Cyndaquil took the order on board and immediately began preparing a round of embers at the phantom like Pokemon.

"Oh ho ho! You have much to learn Joey! Now Misdreavus, seal Cyndaquil's fate with another spite!" The Hag said, she knew this match was in the bag.
Screcching loudly, Misdreavus repeated it's earlier attack. Only increasing Cyndaquil's tears. Misdreavus let out a wild laugh as it sucked away the last of ember's power. Cyndaquil tried to retaliate with ember, yet it could not summon it's fire. The ember pokemon looked back at Joey in confusion. "Cynda?" The pokemon asked, trying to get an answer from it's trainer.
Misdreavus and the Hag laughed widely. "Although my precious Misdreavus lacks any strong attacks, she has mastered the art of crippling the opponent!" The Hag said, easily summering her strategy in one simple sentence.

As Cyndaquil's primary move was crippled Joey let our a roar of dismay. "WHAT THE?! That's no fair..." His face was beginning to redden from how angry he was getting. All the while this crazed old loon was spamming these ridiculous status problems, the longer the battle would drag on. Meaning the chances of Joey catching up with the Rocket were fading rapidly. "You know what? This is gonna come back to bite you. Literally." He looked to his Cyndaquil and sighed that his only other move would have no effect on a Pokemon that was intangible. He thought over the other possible moves for Cyndaquil and decided he'd give them a shot instead. The possibility embers strength returning was always on the cards.
"No fear Cynda! The fact you can't hurt it doesn't mean you've automatically lost. At times like these all you can do is... Leer at your opponent!" Cyndaquil looked oddly at Joey. Was he ACTUALLY ordering a move that wasn't an attack? Despite being in a state of confusion Cyndaquil seemed to think that Joey's order was also part of this confusing state. Nevertheless, whether Joey had decided to stop going all out or the fact the voices in its head willed it, Cyndaquil leered threateningly at Misdreavus. For some reason, this Leer was unlike any other. Despite the fact Cyndaquil had no direct move to hurt Misdreavus with it seemed to be just as effective. Joey looked on for the Misdreavus' reaction as Cyndaquil launched its stare.

Cyndaquil's lethal gaze pierced the will of Misdreavus. "Miss...." The screech pokemon cried out, now afraid of its ember opponent. Although this attack didn't hold the Hag back.
"Now Misdreavus, while the opponent's offense has been removed, attack it with you're Shadow Ball!" The Hag order, her voice was calm. She had already won the battle.
Misdreavus opened its mouth wide. The shadows from the surrounding area where ripped from there resting places, and sucked towards Misdreavus' mouth. The shadows slowly formed a dark purple ball. With a battle cry, Misdreavus fired the shadow ball towards the ember pokemon.
The ball of shadows zoomed through the air. Then with a loud crunching sound the ball slammed into Cyndaquil, sending it flying backwards. The ember pokemon landed at Joey's feet. Looking up at him the Cyndaquil cried to it's trainer in pain. Battle

Joey sneered as the Shadow Ball devastated Cyndaquil and left him in dire condition. "Great... Who knew she was packing such a destructive move... Nevertheless, this could work out for me..." Mused Joey as he thought over something that could be used against the hag. "So, she has two offensive Ghost type moves. What are Ghosts incapable of hurting?" He looked down to his Pokeball and a small glint flew across his eyes. In split second dexterity, Joey picked out Cyndaquil's ball while also using his spare hand to pick his replacement Pokemon. "Cynda! Good job buddy, you did what you could. Return!" Ordered Joey as Cyndaquil felt the comforting feeling of being back inside his little protective home.
Before Joey sent out his next Pokemon he looked to the hag. "Remember how I said these things will come back to bite ya?" He let out a small smirk and threw his Pokeball into play. As the light dazzled, his feline thief of a Meowth jumped out, ready for battle. His fangs and claws bared. "Meowth! Let's take a nice chunk out of this trickster ghost with a Bite attack! Meowth nodded eagerly and leapt towards the ghosts with its mouth open, readying itself for a tasty bite out of its opponent.

Seeing that her opponent was changing pokemon, the Hag followed suit. Return Misdreavus to it's pokeball, the Hag threw out a second duskball. "Now Absol! Finish this battle!" The Hag called out as her pokemon gracefully lept from it's now opened pokeball.
"Absol whip up a whirlwind!" The Hag commanded. The Absol proudly held it's head high, as wind started to form a small tornado around it's scythe like horn. Meowth saw his chance and ran foward, and bit Absol on the neck. The disaster pokemon started down at Meowth with it's piercing red eyes. Absol pitied Meowth, for such a weak attack. Battle

Joey snarled to himself as the hag produced yet another rare Pokemon from her roster. "Sheesh... Where's she gettin' these all from? So far I know she has a Roselia, Sableye, Misdreavus and now an Absol..." He shook his head slightly as the Bite attack seemed ineffective against the enemy Absol. "Dammit! That did barely anything... Okay time to think." He looked at the Absol and raised an eyebrow as it seemed to be charging up an attack. While Joey may have had little experience in the realms of Ghost type Pokemon, he knew full well that charged attacks usually hurt like hell upon connecting. His eyes darted around frantically, from his Pokemon, to the hag's and then to the granny herself. This was all becoming a game of bluff. At any point could both trainers swap out and render each of their Pokemon's moves ineffective.
He thought over his Meowth's moves and grumbled. "This WOULD be a Pokemon with half of its move set being Dark type in nature." He longingly thought on what to do next but eventually came down to two possible orders. "Fury Swipes or Bite again... Fury Swipes can deal a lot of damage but i'm not feelin' all that lucky so I doubt Meowth would hit the full 5 blows... Bite on the other hand... While it's not doing all that much damage I could get a chance of making it flinch and thus preventing its charge attack." His eyes sparked slightly with the possibility of some hope. "Meowth! Your a fast limber cat! Use that to your advantage and let's hope we can make the Absol flinch in fear with how vicious your fangs can be! Use Bite!" As Meowth reared itself up for the blow fearlessly, Joe let out a small gasp in wonder as to what would happen next. From what he knew, Absol may have a fairly intimidating appearance but it was nowhere near as fast as a Meowth.

[[Sorry, hatching your egg. I want to get these done, y'know? And with Arz not as active, someone should get to work on the egg hatching.]]
The pink egg that Joey had placed in his bag began to shake violently! In shock, Joey dropped his bag and the egg rolled out, still shaking. A small chip appeared in the pink egg. A large, muffled squeak emanated from within the shell as another shake caused the egg to roll slightly. Another squeak. Another roll. Whatever was inside wanted out!
With a sharp cracking noise, a small, yellow fist escaped the egg then retreated back in again. Then a louder squeak came from it and a long foot shot out. Small pieces of shell were flung in all directions as a Plusle jumped out of the egg, gulping oxygen. It was getting stuffy inside the egg! It turned to Joey, acknowledging its new trainer. Joey, who was so intently focused on the battle at hand, didn't quite release that his egg was in the process of hatching. As it began to wriggle about, his bag fell to the ground and Joey's attention now swivelled from the battle to his bag. "What the...?!" He jumped slightly at his bag writhing about and looked discriminatingly at the granny. "Are you playing tricks on me or somethin'?!" He knelt down quickly to unveil the disturbance inside his bag and almost slapped his own forehead for his forgetfulness when he realised that he had stuffed his egg out of harm's way in there. With hurried zeal, he excitedly opened one of the many zips on his bag. As the zip flew across, it didn't take any time at all before the Electric Cheering Pokemon flew into Joey's arms adorably, happy to see it's trainer. Joey, surprised by the Pokemon's happiness, couldn't help but give it a warm cuddle back. "Heeeey! Calm down little one. I get it. Your happy to be out that stuffy egg. Okay, okay." He plopped the Pokemon on his shoulder and looked at it warmingly. "Just warnin' ya, i'm not your mama or papa ok?" The Pokemon looked saddened by this but soon became distracted as it started tugging Joey's bandanna. With his new Pokemon safely hatched and under his watchful gaze, he refocused on the match.
