Matthew had spent the better part of two weeks in Cherrygrove, both researching the area and receiving all kinds of new Pokemon. After returning from the Unova Festival with his new Purrloin, Felicia, he had responded to an advertisement at the local Pokemon Center. Some Trainer was giving away her Pokemon, and he had received a Zigzagoon she had named 'Chase'. Out of respect, he left the name alone. He had also been spent a Torchic by Roger, whom hoped that the young Pokemon would be of great help to Matthew. Naming it Winchester, he had also participated in a raffle and won a Surskit named Ophelia. Now with a team of six, Matthew exited the Pokemon Center where he had been staying to explore the town.
Cherrygrove was very calm, especially this early in the day. Not many people were out at the moment, though Matthew attributed this to the heavy fog in the city. Not that he was complaining. He had already socialized with enough people, and now that his research of the town was over, he could divert time to getting stronger. He was curious as to what kind of Pokemon lived in and around Cherrygrove City. If he found something that he thought would help him, he would catch it. If not, then he would just use it as training for his newer Pokemon. Winchester and Ophelia didn't have much experience battling under him yet, and Adonis still needed a bit more experience for their next encounter with Silver and his Chikorita.
The though of his last battle with Silver reminded him only of the adrenaline he felt in that battle. The first Trainer Battle that Matthew had participated in, and it had been with an antagonistic brat that abused his Pokemon. After the battle, Silver had sworn vengeance on Matthew. And Matthew was okay with that, because Silver would be a great example to use in his research of how a journey could affect a young man. And he also wanted to show that smug prick up just once. It also wouldn't hurt if he could punch him just once
Matthew shook these thoughts out of his head, focusing on his environment. If he let himself get too distracted, something could go wrong and he could get hurt. He had to be ready in case a wild Pokemon popped out at him. Reaching for one of the six Poke Balls on his waist, he squinted as he made his way through the fog and further into the streets of Cherrygrove City.

The feline woke up with a slight shudder, feeling the cold seep into its nerves and cold water soaking into its pelt. With an annoyed hiss, the cat uncurled itself, realizing the dampness was from the fogginess that surrounded the air. It let out a growl of discontent, giving its chest a quick wash with a few swipes of its tongue, cleaning off the tiny droplets of water that clung to its fur. A strangled yowling sound made the Meowth's ears prick up in alarm, wondering where the source of the sound was coming from. It came again, louder than before, and the Meowth realized the dying noise was coming from its hollow stomach. Hunger pains wracked its stomach, causing it to flinch slightly. The thought of food made the cat's mouth water as it padded out of the shelter alleyway, glancing around and sniffing the air hopefully. Ear pricking, it heard the sound of heavy footsteps belonging to a Trainer. The feline instantly spotted Matthew making his way through the street. A sneaky smile etched across the cat's face. Humans were always a sucker for cute cats like itself. Perhaps it could scrounge some food from this particular Trainer. Satisfied with its plan, the Meowth quickly bounded towards Matthew, making sure it will cross paths with him. Then, sitting just a little ahead of him, the Meowth tried to look as adorable as possible as it opened its mouth and let out a pitiful mewl, hoping it'll catch Matthew's attention. Wild Meowth (Lvl 8) appeared!

As Matthew walked down the streets of Cherrygrove, he encountered a Meowth. The Pokemon put on a cute face, almost as if it were begging. With a pitiful mewl, it looked at him sadly. The Meowth was scrawnier than the ones he had seen in Kanto, almost as if it hadn't eaten lately. Seeing the thing made Matthew feel sorry for it. He reached to his bag, looking for food, when one of the Poke Balls on his waist opened. Out came Felicia, one of his newer Pokemon.
Watching the wild feline Pokemon beg, Felicia figured out his game. Hissing at the Meowth, Felicia saw what her Trainer was doing. Leaping up, she slapped Matthew's hand aside. Mewling at him repeatedly, the Purrloin glared at the Meowth. "Felicia, what's going on with you?"
Felicia's noises continued, as she seemingly challenged the Meowth to a fight. Before Matthew could protest, Felicia lashed out at the Wild Pokemon. Seeing the 'catfight' begin, Matthew decided that Felicia was trying to warn him. Could it be that the Meowth was trying to trick him somehow? Matthew decided to sit back and observe as the Dark-Type and Normal-Type started their fight.

Although there was another story about to unfold for the Meowth as it saw Felicia in her glaring stance. The pokemon was nearly ready to back away at this point in fear of what may happen. But, it was already too late, the battle had begun as Meowth had no choice but to attack and defend itself. The meowth had to admit, Felicia was certainly an intimidating pokemon. The large eyes, the large ears, all something that the Meowth did not have. The ears on the normal pokemon's head stood up and planted forward to make sure that it'd catch every noise that Felicia was making and its eyes were fixed straight ahead as well, capturing everything that it had to in order to keep itself in the battle. The Meowth soon thought of a move it could make as it dashed forward at Felicia, it was a pokemon that it had never seen before. But it was cat like like it was. This made the pokemon a bit fascinated, but over all it was still fearful of the pokemon from the previous glares. As the Meowth came close enough the pokemon launched a heavy bite attack on the Purrlion making Felicia wince from the attack. Although being a dark type move, Felicia hung on easily from it as she glared back at the normal type. Just how many tricks did the pokemon try to make? Battle!
...er make that a cat fight! Wild Meowth | Level 8| Health : 24/24: 100%Status : Normal Successful Bite! Felicia | Level 5| Health : 15/20: 75%Status : Normal No Move was called!

Matthew had certainly screwed up. By standing back and trying to analyze the situation, he had left the Meowth an opening, which it did not hesitate to use. The Meowth had pounced, biting Felicia. As the Dark-Type Pokemon fell back, she cringed when she landed on her now hurt paw. Matthew frowned when he saw the pain his feline friend was suffering from, deciding he had to think of a plan of action.
He could see the smug look on the Meowth's face when it saw the Purrloin in pain. Matthew could almost imagine the Kantoan cat laughing at both Matthew and Felicia. Tightening his hand into a fist, the normally calm and apathetic boy became determined to shut the smug cat up.
"Felicia, are you okay?" Matthew asked. Receiving a tail flick as an answer, Matthew took it as a yes. Felicia was still young and inexperienced, and didn't know many moves, especially when compared to the seemingly experienced Meowth. He would have to work with what she did know, though. "Felicia, use your Scratch attack!"
Smiling, Felicia pounced, ignoring the pain in her leg, ready to enact some revenge on the cat that had just bit her.

Looking at the current battle, maybe Felicia wasn't okay at all, despite how Matthew might took that as a yes. Clearly the wild Meowth had an upper hand. For this kind of cat fight, maybe there's already a visible victor. For the next round of battle, the Kantoan kitty ran toward the Unovan Pokemon and greeted her with another bite. The bite was about the same intensity of pain as before, however, instead of biting the leg, this time was the back. The Meowth was wondering what was going on with this strange species of cat and what it was doing with this trainer. It could make a better kitty, the Meowth thought. Felicia cried sharply as another bite sent her body into pain. She was determined to avenge this wild Meowth. However, with her limited experiences in battling, she would have to do whatever she can do. With the Meowth in close distance, she obediently took her trainer's order and scratched the opponent with her claws. Her claws were not sharp nor hitting any special, critical spots, but those were enough to send pain to the Meowth to remind it that she would revenge the earlier assault.
The battle is ongoing!.... The weather looks clear! Wild Meowth- Level 8 21/24| (Unknown) Wild Meowth used a successful Bite! Felicia the Purrloin- Level 5 10/20| FFelicia used a successful Scratch! Meowth used Bite! Bite dealt 5 damages to Felicia! Felicia used Scratch! Scratch dealt 3 damages to Wild Meowth!

The Meowth had landed another hit on Felicia, its fangs sinking into Felicia's back. Releasing Felicia, Matthew's Pokemon had landed a meager hit on the Meowth before falling back. Suffering from two bite wounds, Felicia found it difficult to stand, let alone attack or move. She still had some fight in her, but it hurt to move. Even she knew that fighting for any longer wouldn't be wise. Turning to her Trainer, Felicia meowed somewhat pathetically.
"Felicia, come back. You've suffered enough," Matthew said, taking out Felicia's Poke Ball to call her back. Replacing the Poke Ball on his belt, Matthew dug around, trying to decide which Pokemon to use. The obvious choice would be either Watson or Adonis. Deciding to try using his Spearow, Matthew sent out Adonis to fight.
"Adonis, this Meowth tried to trick us and hurt Felicia. You don't like that, do you?" Matthew asked, the bird flapping its wings and squawking in anger. Nobody would be allowed to hurt the others on his team. As one of the first to join, it was naturally his job to help Watson keep the peace and protect the younger ones. "Good! Adonis, use your Fury Attack on the Meowth! Get some revenge for Felicia."

The Meowth's stomach growled loudly, rumbling just below its visible rib cage. It held back, unsure what to do. All it wanted was something to eat, and there had to be easier ways to get it. The trainer seemed to be under the impression that it was trying to trick them, even though the Purrloin had lashed out first and all the Meowth had been guilty of was begging for food and defending itself. How could its intentions have been so misconstrued? This wasn't a new experience though, nobody seemed to trust an alley cat. In turn it was starting to lose faith in the world. A growing spite was building up inside of the tawny kitten, its head slowly tilted as it focused one eye on the shiny Spearow that had just been released.
The scratch cat's medallion glinted in the fog as it suddenly pounced and dug its fangs into the bird, sending golden feathers flying. There was a small scuffle as Adonis tried to escape and Meowth held on tight, bringing out its claws to get a good grip on its winged opponent before biting down again. Adonis retaliated with a close quarters Fury Attack, leaving the feral cat in bad shape as it finally let go and dropped to the ground. Barely conscious.

Matthew watched as Adonis and the Meowth clashed. Adonis took two severe bites to the same spot on his back, but he had landed several strikes from his beak, a Fury Attack, on the Meowth's face. The alley cat had fallen back, injured severely and barely conscious. Matthew realized now, probably a bit too late, that the battle had gone too far. The Meowth could barely move anymore, and Matthew could see the sadness and pain in its eyes.
Adonis prepared to strike again, but before he could swoop in for the final hit, Matthew called for him to stop. Adonis perched himself on a nearby rock, turning his head to Matthew in wonder. He was so certain that Matthew had wanted him to finish off the Meowth, or at the least injure it so badly it wouldn't fight back anymore. His Trainer's sudden response to pause before going too far left him in an odd state. Suddenly, he saw Matthew reach for something on the back of his belt.
Matthew had realized by now that the Meowth had only come to him because it was hungry and possibly sick. It hadn't intended to get into a fight or seem like it was tricking him, and he and Felicia had jumped the gun. That, or Felicia was trying to start trouble again. Matthew would have to deal with that later. For now, he was done fighting the Meowth. He could practically count the ribs on the Meowth's body, and could see how badly its hunger had affected its battling skills. Removing a Poke Ball from the back of his belt, he lobbed the sphere at the Meowth. Leaving a Pokemon as hurt or starving as this Meowth in the wild would be the same as killing it. Maybe if it came with him on his journey he could make up for making such a huge mistake.

As soon as Matthew had called his golden Spearow to stop attacking, the alley Meowth had a faint idea what was coming. Since the wild cat was too tired and hungry, it could feel that it was about to collapse on the street, let alone seeing clearly with its last strength. Before the cat could take this opportunity to attack the trainer's Spearow, it found itself engulfed in a bright light and inside the infamous capture devise called Pokeball. The Pokeball wobbled to the right... Perhaps, the Meowth was too tired to move. The Pokeball wobbled to the left this time... If it was too tired to move, then why would it fight back the capturing? Here goes its fate in the Cherrygrove City streets. DING!The barely moved Pokeball stopped glowing, and rested on the concrete readied to be retrieved by Matthew. Perhaps with this capture, the Meowth could begin to live a healthy life as opposed to the struggle and the starving in the streets. And from the red haired boy's point of view, perhaps he could begin paying his mistake of battling this already starving Pokemon. CONGRATULATIONS! Meowth had been captured successfully! MeowthName: Aladdin "Al" Gender: Male Level: 8 Attacks: Scratch, Growl, Bite Ability: Technician Nature/Personality: Born on the streets and forced to survive off of scraps, Aladdin has long since lost faith in the world and has always been treated like a criminal. More straightforward and less deceitful than Felicia (with whom he has a bitter rivalry), he is wary of others and prefers to work alone, like he always has. Maybe Matthew and his team can change that one day. Matthew recalled Adonis to his Poke Ball, placing the sphere back on his belt. He decided to continue his little training trek, when something caught his attention. It was a loud noise, and almost seemed to be a scream. Matthew thought it sounded familiar, when he realized that he had heard the same noise moments earlier. He had been so wrapped up in fighting the Meowth that he had ignored the noise. Matthew paused, debating whether or not to go check on it. He was just about to ignore it, when one of his Poke Balls burst open. Out came his Surskit, Ophelia. The small insect looked around before skirting off to the sound of the noise. Matthew vaguely recalled Ophelia having a tendency to run off and help others, and he was right in his assumption that her moral compass would get him in trouble. Sighing, he ran after the Bug, not quite sure what to be prepared for when he arrived at his destination. (Putting this thread ON HOLD so I can do the Happiness Quest.)

Matthew had finally finished the...ordeal that was the troubled schoolkid. The Houndours were a particular pain in the neck, especially the douchey Coordinator he had been forced to interact with. He had elected to take a break from battling and traveling for a bit, relaxing in the Pokemon Center and getting more acquainted with the area. Plus, he was taking the time to get more acquainted with some of his lesser-used Pokemon. Ones he had acquired from raffles or ones that he bought from other Trainers. He made sure to keep Watson and Winchester, but had brought out RogerRabbit (A silly name for a silly Pokemon), Tybalt (Arrogant and battle-crazy little heathen that he is), Eleanor (Sweet little research assistant, that one), and Aladdin (Little thieving cat. Though Matthew would be lying if he said Al wasn't slightly amusing at times)
So that was the ragtag group of Pokemon Matthew had stored on his waist as he walked down the main street heading out of Cherrygrove. Route 30, they called it. He could afford to spend some time looking for a Pokemon to try and catch or a Trainer to battle. All research he had done pointed to the first Gym being in the next town, and he would need to be ready. No such thing as too much practice. Besides, he really did need to 'bond' and practice with some of his newer Pokemon. So Matthew stepped out into the grass in search of a fight, not knowing what to expect.

With the trio of Houndour and face of Schoolboy Jimmy well and truly behind him, Matthew was free to continue exploring the area of Cherrygrove City. Leaving the streets and following the dirt path which led him toward Route 30, the route may have had a number of twists and turns but simply following the path would lead him straight to Violet City, where the first Gym would await him. But before he could challenge Faulkner, he felt that a bit of training was necessary first. Thus, he had stepped into the cold winds in order to find some opponents for his own team to face. Only, the area seemed still and silent. Maybe the bone chilling weather had sent most wild Pokemon into hiding until the place warmed up some. But surely there was atleast something to face him in the meantime.
As he left the dirt path in order to explore through the tall grass, it wasn't long before his foot came into contact with something. Having tried it's very best to camouflage itself, as Matthew's foot came treading down over it, the Pokemon underneath the ground arose with an angered squeak. Forcing it's way out from under the foot of the trainer, the small Pokemon staggered away from him before turning and angrily chattering up at him. Upon closer inspection, the Pokemon happened to be an Oddish. Not usually found in this area, if he had listened to the local radio stations, then Matthew would've heard that they were currently swarming and therefore, quite rare. Only, his miss placed stepped had scuffed the leaves atop of the Pokemon's head, making it somewhat hostile towards him. Perhaps this Oddish would be a good starting point for his day of training!
A wild Oddish (Level 6) has appeared! Please select a Pokemon to use in battle or flee!

Matthew made a mental note to invest in a jacket in the next town he came to. Or at least a shirt with longer sleeves. Granted, he could always just use Winchester's natural body heat to warm up, but then that would mean subjecting what is basically a baby to the elements for his own benefit. Granted, he wasn't really sure whether or not the cold would even bother Winchester, but he didn't want to be stuck with a sick Fire-type should such a scenario be feasible. He would just suffer through it. Perhaps the weather would warm up by the time he made it to Violet City. Until then he would tough it out.
Matthew barely even noticed when his foot came down on an odd plant. Odd in the way that the thing sprung up from the ground and took a defensive stance. He had stepped on an Oddish, apparently. Normally these things couldn't be found here. Matthew would normally love to catch one for the sake of research, but as it was now he already possessed an Oddish in the form of Wiggles. The Oddish looking at him was a far cry from the naive and sweet little one resting elsewhere. Ruffling the leaves on its head, even if accidentally, appeared to have...offended it. Oh well, it was as good a place as any to start his training for the Violet City Gym.
Knowing he had at least one Pokemon with a clear advantage over the little plant, Matthew instinctively reached to go for either Aladdin or Winchester, but one of the balls on his waist started shaking and seemed to open itself. Out came RogerRabbit, bouncing around happily and cheerily. Evidently, he wanted to stretch his legs and fight. Considering Matthew had yet to use him in a battle, it was a fair desire. Oh well, may as well let the little bunny have his chance.
"So you wanna give it a go?" Matthew asked the rabbit, receiving more excited bounces and a nod in return. He didn't need Eleanor out to translate from RogerRabbit to him to know that meant, "Yes". Smiling, he placed his hands in his pockets. He would just have to swap out if Roger took too much of a beating. "Okay, Roger, proceed with Double Hit!"
((OOC: Using RogerRabbit the Buneary. Uses Double Hit on Oddish.))

Oddish was still furious that Matthew had dared to step on one of it's leaves and it's hostility was not about to be curbed any time soon. The plant Pokemon blended into the tall grass around Cherrygrove a bit too well but even understanding that mistakes like that were bound to happen this Oddish was tired of people making such an easy mistake. The aggressive Pokemon was already building up it's energy to attack before Matthew had not even selected a Pokemon yet planning on getting the first move in the match however the plant did not account for Matthew's Pokemon being fairy quick. Even with the initiative Oddish was still not able to make the first move. RodgerRabbit hopped into position ready to make his move as soon as Matthew issued an order. Thanks to his incredible reflexes he was able to not only acknowledge his order he was also able to hop towards the plant as it was still building up it's energy. Once he was in range of his target he cracked the plant with both of his ears as hard as he could swing them knocking the plant off of it's feet and in complete shock. Oddish had no idea a Buneary could hit so hard but it found out just how tough the little rabbit could be and it was not feeling quite so clever. The bad news for RodgerRabbit however was that Oddish had finally built up it's energy and it was finally able to launch an attack of it's own. Opening it's mouth as wide as it could go Oddish fired a green blob of energy towards him at a high speed. The blob surrounded the young rabbit and began to suck his energy for a few moments while transferring it back to Oddish who was in desperate need of more energy after the first attack. It did not give the plant very much energy back however it was enough that it could now take another hit without being knocked out which for now at least was a small victory for the grass type after taking such a large amount of damage in such a short period of time. Oddish could not afford to underestimate the rabbit again however as now it's health was barely above half and that alone left the plant very worried. It's aggressive apporach to this battle was beginning to backfire horribly as it faced the real possibility of being defeated in a short period of time. Combined with an awful move set Oddish did not have much to hope for as it waited to see how the next round would go. Wild Pokemon Battle
Oddish: | Level 6| Health: 60% (14/23 HP)Status: Normal I guess I should not mess with Rodger Rabbit! Move: Absorb
