Aglaia waved to her cousin as Dorthea hurried into the park with Madam. She did her best to look cheerful and excited until the other one was disappeared, but then she sighed and looked around nervously. She had got so used to Dorthea always being around, that it was weird, and a bit unsettling to be all alone again.
Dorthea had managed to persuade Aglaia to join this year, mostly by the argument that Wystan was a bug type, and their partnership was precious to Aglaia. She still wasn't sure if it had been a good idea to go to this without him, but she knew Saury was stronger and with his Sleep Powder and Leech Seed he should do alright, even though he had type disadvantage.
Wystan was her most trusted partner, but he wasn't as strong yet. Aglaia were determined to make him though, one day.

Aglaia waited until most of the other trainers had ran off to be the first to find the special bug pokemon, and then exhaled as she called out her Ivysaur.
Saury looked around a bit bored. He had been surprised he had been chosen for this, but wasn't sure he liked it. It wasn't like he was going to do anything else than battling.

Aglaia lead the way into the park, following the stone path for now.

It was almost hard to find an area not currently occupied by a trainer searching for their first encounter. Luckily that would be fine for Aglaia, as a lot of the visiting bug types were scattering away from the active battles to try and hide. Unfortunately for one such skittering insect it just happened to cross the stone path in front of Aglaia. It hadn't been able to spot her earlier due to the tall blades of grass, but now that it was out in the open it had no choice. With a pitiful squeak it turned to face her and her partner.

Aglaia and Saury watched all the searching trainers and the battles that had already started around. Aglaia could understand why people hurried, but she had read (which she of course had done when it was decided she was going to join) that you often met the rarer ones a bit further in and when others had used up their sport balls on their first encounters.
A scatterbug was chased out and Aglaia quickly checked it on her pokedex.
"It's probably not going to be a winner, but if we meet nothing else, it can at least held Grandma out," said Aglaia and Saury couldn't help but sigh as he stepped forward.
"Start with a Leech Seed, it's a risk, but it is a bug type, so you'll need it," continued Aglaia thoughtfully and Saury did as he was told. Perhaps if he was lucky, he would get a chance to chat with the pokemon if it got caught.

The two stared off, trying to guess each other's next moves, but Saury was the first to act. Catching the wild bug's eye movements he launched a set of seeds anticipating the direction Scatterbug would dodge; and he was correct. The bug pokémon dove to the left across the pathway and nearly did so quickly the bundle of leech seed almost missed. By a hair they caught its back end and sprouted their tendrils to begin draining away. Scatterbug was belly to the ground but it wasn't out. With a wiggle of its head hairs the black bug spewed a sudden burst of yellow spores. Saury gasped and tried to escape the stream, but it came faster than he thought. As he jumped to the side he inhaled too much of the stun spore, allowing the paralytic effect to set in.

Aglaia smiled pleased when the leech Seed hit their mark. Saury was good at that, and it would help even though it was a little risk.
She could understand that the ivysaur attempted to avoid the spores that was thrown at him, as it was instinctive, even though it wasn't necessary. Or so Aglaia thought.
"What?" said she slowly as it really did look like Saury got affected by the spores. But she had read that they should be immune to it. She sighed, you couldn't trust anything these days.
She quickly found a cheri berry, which she gave Saury.
"Alright, that should do it," she said as the ivysaur gulped down the berry.
"Give it a Tackle," she ordered when he was done.

Luckily the tickling effect of the spores swiftly wore off; seeming to disappear completely after a sneeze. Declining the berry, the ivysaur immediately followed through with the Tackle command, and Scatterbug returned in kind before being sapped by the seeds.

Saury felt rather stupid for falling for the trick of the scatterbug, he wasn't sure why it had affected him that much, but now it at least was over. He made it clear for Aglaia he didn't needed any berry, even though it surely looked tasty and did as she had ordered him to.
Aglaia found his reactions strange, but assumed it was that instinctive urge to avoid what is thrown at you in a battle, why he had seemed like he had been affected she had no answer to, but at least they were now back on track.

Aglaia made sure to have a Park ball ready and narrowed her eyes at the scatterbug. It was a small one indeed, so they should probably be careful not to knock it out.
"Sleep Powder please," asked Aglaia and Saury shot a cloud of the sleep indulging spores at the bug.

(ooc: sleep powder. And it's alright, I only remembered since I had just looked it up, and I was surprised to see how many other types that has special cases like that as well. I'm certain to forget some of those as well )

Beginning to wear down, Scatterbug was unable to avoid the cloud of soporific spores. It yawned, blinked a few times as it tried to fight the effects, then teetered over into a light sleep.

Aglaia were ready with the park ball, and threw it the moment the scatterbug succumbed to the sleep. It was now or never, since who knew when it would run off again? Aglaia wasn't sure if she would meet anything else in here, even though everyone said there were plenty of bugs in the garden, then with this many participating trainers, they would be dwindling soon, or be scared off.
Better catch something while you can.

"Be ready Saury," warned Aglaia and the ivysaur held his focus at the wriggling ball.

The off-colored pokéball flew above the path and lobbed the snoozing wild pokémon. Scatterbug was quickly swept up inside, but even before the ball hit the ground it seemed to shudder in the air. The moment the sportball clattered to the ground its button flared red and the click of success sounded.

Aglaia smiled pleased when the pokeball captured the scatterbug, and she went over to pick it up.
"Well done Saury," praised she the ivysaur, who looked hopefully at her, until she placed the pokeball in her pocket. Then he huffed tiredly.
"I wonder if we can find a more secluded area, what do you think?" Asked Aglaia while she looked around. Saury waited for her to pick a direction, but when she didn't, he chose a random direction and walked in that direction.
"That way? Alright," said Aglaia and followed, a bit nervous about leaving the path.

It was time to go off the beaten path and delve into the thicker sections of bug pokémon territory. It didn't take long for Aglaia to stumble upon another contest pokémon. The wild bug had chosen the wrong moment to try and scale a tree to get out of all the other trainer's ways and had missed Aglaia's approach. Oh well. There was only one thing to do now that it was spotted. The nincada launched itself off the tree to face her grass type champion.

Aglaia looked around a bit wary but it did seem like they were getting into a more wild area of the park, and it seemed like it was without other trainers, so far at least. She wondered how Saury had known where to go.
It hadn't been difficult for the ivysaur to find a more suitable place to meet bugs than the middle of a path, he had been surprised to find anything out there.
They didn't get far before they got the next encounter, and Saury got a chance to give a quick greeting while Aglaia looked it up at her pokedex.

"Use a Leech Seed and follow it up with a Vine Whip, we're not going to capture this one," told Aglaia Saury, who sighed.
"I'm sorry," he told the nincada, before he did as told.

Nincada tried to such some nectar from ivysaur's flower! It didn't work out so well for it, getting a bunch of seeds to the face that instead sucked nutrients from it. Starting this fight out with the reverse of what Nincada wanted, Saury followed up with a wicked slap of vine whip. The bug pokémon responded by kicking sand in Saury's eyes.

Saury's greeting was not taken well and he had no problem attacking the after it had tried to eat him.
He sneezed as the sand got in his nose as well and paused momentarily to attempt to rub his eyes. He was unsuccessful but had tried it before and did not lose his pose because of it.
"Give it another Vine Whip Saury, It doesn't seem so strong," called Aglaia to him, and watched as he attempted to hit it again.
