He'd gotten distracted by the quest he'd been sent on, but it had been well worth it in the end. Now he carried with him a Goldeen egg, which was an entirely new experience for him. Yes, he'd seen his mother raise Pokemon from eggs, but usually that wasn't her calling, and he'd never been allowed to look after one himself. It was going to be stressful, he imagined, and he had no idea why the professor had decided he'd be good at it, but he was going to take the praise and trust to heart and hope for the best.
Making the trip back to Cherrygrove had been much simpler than the initial one. In fact, Finnian barely saw any signs of life along the route. Perhaps it was because he was too preoccupied with keeping a careful watch on the egg he kept cradled in his arms, or perhaps there simply weren't as many Pokemon and people wandering around at the moment.
As it turned out, the city was just as peaceful as the forest had been, likely because it was so tiny. He felt right at home there, slowly moving along, pausing every once in a while to smell some of the flowers. Talia trotted along beside him, often running ahead, while Florus lingered behind, enamored by all the plant life. Finnian was torn by the pair, trying to keep them both in his line of sight. He had a feeling it was going to be more difficult when they got to the water on the other side of town, imagining Talia was going to want to go for a swim. They hadn't gotten there yet though, and it was likely to take them a bit at the rate they were going.

The Cherrygrove City Streets were deceptively peaceful, usually the small city was bustling with activity. It was the middle of the day, fog had started to set in on the area and the wild pokemon that would usually roam the open streets were off attempting to find a meal. Starving would be an understatement for one particular wild Ekans that had bad intentions on its mind if it wasn't able to find a delicious meal soon. Ekans thought that maybe a Tailow would do the trick for his next meal.
The thought of Ekans preying on a wild Tailow was not one for the feint of heart, however that train of thought was soon forgotten about as the wild snake Pokemon captured a glimpse of what appeared to be an egg cradled in a male human's arms. Ekans begun salivating at the mouth, the prospect of eating an egg was all too exciting to it at this very moment. With no regard for the fact that the male human appeared to have a pokemon partner in Squirtle nearby, the wild Ekans slithered across the surface between it and its soon to be meal, the fog that had littered the city had been annoying for most, this time however Ekans was moving deceptively fast and relatively unseen, this pokemon's entire state of consciousness had shifted to a focus upon rectifying the insatiable hunger that it was currently experiencing.
A wild Ekans (Level 8) is after Finnian's Egg! Who will Finnian choose to help him stop this snake fiend!?OOC: +295 Words to Goldeen Egg

The city was quaint and homey, but Finnian had to admit the fog he could have done without. It gave everything an almost creepy atmosphere, and he didn't do well with creepy. What he really wanted to do was find a place to go inside and wait for the fog to leave... but it didn't seem inclined to do so anytime soon. Apparently, he'd picked a bad time to really get to see this place.
Suddenly, Talia froze, looking around intently. "I hear something," she said softly, holding up a paw to Finnian, who had also stopped abruptly.
"What is it?" he asked worriedly, unable to see anything through the thick fog. Talia wasn't sure herself, having never heard the strange slithering sound before, but she knew that it was getting closer, and that couldn't be a good thing. She merely shook her head, wanting her trainer to be quiet so she could figure out where the sound was coming from and perhaps figure out what it was before she actually saw it, because by then it would be upon them.
For his part, Finnian stifled a whimper and cradled the egg closer to his chest instinctively, both from a desire to protect it and a natural desire to guard his midriff from attack.

(OOC: We recently started a new modding option for members without their first badge. You may opt out and return to the original method at any time with no penalty. To do so just leave a OOC note and we will gladly respond as normal.) I did not happen to see an attack selected this time but if you were trying to attack let me know and I will gladly update this post. IC: Ekans was still starving even as Finnian was notified of its presence by Talia. The snake Pokemon knew it had to strike fast but it did not want to break the egg by accident as the fog made it hard to see anything and as such the snake held its fire until Finnian gave his Pokemon the order to attack. Ekans just hoped it would not have to wait too long or else it might starve. It was in striking range however and hunger might force it to strike if Finnian did not order his Pokemon to attack. Ekans holds its fire as it gets within striking range. It may attack freely if your Pokemon does not make a move soon.

As the intense standoff drew on, Finnian got more and more nervous. Okay, he couldn't handle this. Time to figure out what was going on. His curiosity was overwhelmed by a sense of dread, probably because he couldn't see what was going on around him. Instead of just trying to ask questions, he released Aislyn, sending her forward into the mist.
Fortunately, it didn't take long for her to spot the Ekans hanging about, staring at her trainer. Oh, she didn't like that look. Immediately, she raised her hands and made a complicated gesture, hoping to lull the Ekans to sleep. That would make things much easier, for they could then simply slip past it or, since she thought it would just keep following them until it got what it wanted, they could do something more effective about it.
Finnian saw the motions Aislyn was making but stayed back, waiting to see if she was successful or if something would lunge out of the mist at her. Either way, at least they would know what they were dealing with.
Aislyn was sent out and used Hypnosis!
Drowzee Name: Aislyn Gender: Female Level: 4 Moves: Hypnosis, Pound Ability: Insomnia Nature/Personality: A dreamer at heart, Aislyn is often daydreaming or otherwise lost in thought. The terrible weather worked in Ekans favor as it was able to get so close to the egg it was after it could almost taste it. As it noticed Aislyn trying to prepare a move however the snake Pokemon quickly fired a Poison Sting at the Drowzee. Aislyn endured the hit and despite the pain and awful weather she was able to put the snake to sleep with her Hypnosis attack. VS. Wild Ekans

Aislyn yelped as the Ekans struck her, though she knew she ought to have expected that. Now that she'd succeeded in putting the Ekans to sleep, she backed up to be closer to Finnian, waiting to see what he wanted her to do. He stepped forward at the same time and finally got a good look at what she had been facing, and shuddered slightly. He thought a lot of Pokemon were cute that other people really didn't, but Ekans wasn't one of them, and it was clear that it had been trying to sneak up on him.
Well, Aislyn wasn't a good one for this particular battle, and Finnian knew they would have to battle if he wanted to help this Pokemon. If they could faint it, then he could haul it off to the Pokemon Center where it could get some help and maybe some food, whatever it wanted.
So, instead of having Aislyn continue to struggle, he motioned for her to join him again and had Florus go out instead. While he wanted Aislyn to get more practice in, he knew there wasn't a point in having her fight a pointless battle. Better to let Florus handle things, since he could more easily deal with the Ekans. It only took a moment to explain things to the Pikachu, and he immediately gathered up some dirt from the ground around them and tossed it in a low lob towards the slumbering snake.
Aislyn was replaced with Florus who used Mud-Slap!

Ekans continued to sleep as Aislyn was swapped out for Florus allowing the young Pikachu to avoid taking a free hit from the snake Pokemon. Now that Florus could attack he scooped up a small amount of mud and flung it towards Ekans scoring a direct hit on the snakes face. Ekans could hardly see between the weather and the Mud-Slap lowering its accuracy and it totally missed its Poison Sting attack. Ekans was still in pretty good shape despite taking a super effective hit from Florus but it was clear that Florus had the upper hand now. VS. Wild Ekans

Man, he'd never thought this place would be dangerous! Finnian ran one hand over the egg he clutched protectively as he scanned his surroundings, wishing it wasn't so darn foggy right now. Thank goodness he'd gotten into town before this set in, because being out in the wilderness and not being able to see would be horrible. It was making everything more difficult, especially battling!
Thankfully, Florus was able to avoid getting poisoned just as Aislyn had, so he managed to get a free hit in. What was unfortunate was that his attack didn't do as much as he would have hoped. At least, it didn't seem to for the Ekans appeared largely unphased. Great. He could have told Finnian and Aislyn that the Ekans wouldn't remain asleep for long, but he realized they hadn't known what they were facing and therefore couldn't have guessed at its ability. Therefore, he couldn't blame them for their mistake.
What he knew was that he couldn't keep tossing mud at his opponent and hoping for the best. Instead, he allowed electricity to build up in his cheeks before sending it coursing at his opponent. Attempting any kind of targeted attack in these conditions was foolhardy at best, but it was all that Florus could do. Getting closer to the snake could easily lead to him getting bitten or wrapped up in its clutches and unable to move, neither of which would be good.

Thankfully between the shifting fog and a solid electrical shock the pikachu was able to deter the snake. Ekans still made a desperate attempt to lunge forward and get its long body encircling the mouse but it ended up finding just a tuft of dead grass sticking out of the snow. +877 words to egg (since Jan 14)

Even though he'd been expecting it, Florus was still startled when the snake lurched out of the fog towards him. Thankfully, the snake latched onto the wrong thing and he didn't find himself tangled up in its clutches. If he didn't finish this quickly, though, he probably would find that happening regardless. Since they were close, he tried to throw himself at the snake and kick at it, risking getting so near in order to have a better chance at finishing things off. At least closer quarters would make it easier for him to hit his opponent... though the reverse was also painfully true.
Florus used Double Kick!

Used Wrap! Missed again. Florus [Static]: (+1 SPD, -10% ACC). Used Double Kick! Ekans hissed its annoyance while it unraveled itself from the flimsy stalks. Just as it turned around to eye its true target though it received a set of little yellow feet to the face. The poor slithering pokémon's tongue was sent to the side and nicked with its teeth as it was kicked aside. The wild pokémon's rattling intensified. Ekans' anger flaring to new heights it made another hasty attempt at wrapping the crafty mouse in its scaly coils. But alas it missed again, though only barely. Nearly six feet of venomous rage whipped by Florus and nicked his apron as he managed to dodge the springing lunge from his opponent. ((Nah, let's keep current moves.))
Florus kind of felt bad for the snake at this point, but he wasn't going to back off now. It was obvious to him that this snake wasn't going to let them go unless it had no say in the matter, and the only way for that to happen was to make him unconscious. At least the weather combined with his previous mud slinging had made it all the easier for him to avoid getting hurt by the snake.
That being said, it came way too close for comfort with its next lunge, brushing the edge of his apron even as it missed. Florus let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding as the Ekans missed his attack, relieved that he was doing so well at staying out of the snake's way. Granted, it wouldn't be so easy if he hadn't made things even more difficult for the snake with that mud earlier. He was grateful that he'd gone with that attack above any other, and was tempted to do it again in the hopes of making it even more difficult for the snake to hit him. Instead, he wanted to try to definitively finish this off, and he hoped it would be more useful in stopping the snake so they could get him somewhere that he could get some help.

The bolt of thunder which eminiated from Florus's glowing red cheeks crackled and lit up the white fog as it hit its target. The ekans let out a soft whimper as it collapsed on the ground, but it did not feel worried nor was it angry any longer. The thunderbolt had lit up the scene in the fog so brightly that as the ekans saw the strike coming towards it, it was also able to see the eyes of the pikachu and its trainer. Something in their eyes told the ekans that their intentions in this fight were kind, they wanted to help it. The ekans accepted its fate and wondered if when it next woke up, it would be fed a full meal... it would really love that. VS. ((Aislyn would like to learn Disable!))
Florus succeeded in bringing down the snake, and Finnian breathed a sigh of relief. "Good job buddy," he said, recalling the Pikachu to give him a break for a little bit. "Okay, let's find the Pokemon Center," he said, approaching to try to pick up the snake, wanting to take him to the nearest healing center, hoping they could revive the Pokemon and also give it whatever it was that it needed. Clearly, it wasn't doing well here. Trouble was, he didn't know where anything was around here. Maybe someone would be able to tell him.
"Hey, does anyone know where the Pokemon Center is?" he called out, looking around. Or, maybe someone would be interested in taking the Ekans from him and save him the trip!
