Finnian could just feel the irritation radiating from the other side of the field. He got it, actually. It was frustrating not being able to do anything. Somehow, though, he wasn't entirely sure that was the only reason for the agitation emanating from the stranger. Probably not, he guessed. He had a feeling that he was being annoying without really meaning to. Nothing he could do about it, since he wasn't trying to be an annoyance but was doing so anyway, and he wasn't about to change what he was doing because he didn't see anything wrong with it.
"I mean, I think you'd know more about that than I would," Finnian said somewhat hesitantly. Antagonizing people wasn't his forte, nor was being sarcastic, but he thought it was fitting here. While Finnian wasn't entirely helpless, it was accurate to say that he was naive and not the greatest on being on his own. It was also accurate to say that this man might be taking advantage of that, and was entirely aware of the fact.
Once again, though, he'd forgotten to pay attention to the fight. Luckily, Aislyn was quite capable of handling herself at this point, and continued her attack on the Zubat by wailing on him more.
The redhead didn't look too pleased with Finnian's answer, it was not what he had expected. He glared at the other boy and wondered if he was just too stupid or simply refused to see what he was doing. He decided to give him a helping hand. "Really? And why should I have that?" He asked acidly and waited for Finnians's answer and for Aislyn to have reached the sleeping zubat. "We agree that zubat is pretty much defenseless right now, so how does it feel when your pokemon is beating on someone whose already laying in the dust?" He sneered his question. "You just praised your dumb drowzee for doing so, beating up one who has no chance of defending itself, and you don't know how that feels?" The brat continued to point out while looking disdainfully at Finnian. "You goody two-shoes irking me, pretending to be better than anyone else and be nice, while you are just as coldhearted like everyone else and kicks the ones who's laying down!" The boy spat, "I don't care of how you are behaving but don't try to hide behind pretending to be an angel, because you certainly are not!"
It could be discussed how ethical it was to pound on a sleeping opponent but it certainly was much easier to battle when your opponent couldn't retaliate. As Aislyn finished her pounding Zubat stirred although it was uncertain if it came from the attack or from its trainer's harsh tone of voice. It was hard to say when it was it woke up as it has not eyes to blink open, but it lifted its head drowsily and the redhead sighed. "Finally!" He turned to look determined at Finnian and rubbed a knuckle. "Now you are going down!" He threatened.
"Because... you keep saying I'm pathetic and all that yet you're fighting me," Finnian replied, smiling faintly. He wanted to be friendly, preferred it honestly, but it seemed like no one around here except that one kid who had been so delighted to get an Ekans was on the same page as him. Did he just exude some nature that made everyone want to be mean to him? Apparently so. Honestly, at this point he was used to it because he had such a bad habit of getting underfoot.
"Of course I do, I've lived it," Finnian replied before he thought about it. He didn't exactly need to be spewing his life's story to this guy, who didn't even care anyway and would only turn it against him, and yet here he was doing just that. Man, he really needed someone in his life to just put their hand over his mouth and make him shut up. Could he hire someone to do that? "It sucks, I know," he concluded softly despite all those thoughts.
In the meantime, the Zubat was waking up and they didn't have much longer to figure everything out. Finnian wondered if Aislyn could finish the fight before the Zubat screamed at her again, but before he could ask her what she thought or even attempt to say anything she was moving in to strike again. Seemed as though she was going to do it or faint trying.
“Had a good nap, Zubat? Come on, get in its face!” He yelled at his zubat, his voice dripping with frustration. The zubat quickly got back into the battle, pushing off the ground and flapping its wings rapidly to soar back into the air. It wavered weakly for a moment- the physical damage it had taken was surely taking a toll on it, but not wanting to disappoint its trainer. Zubat rapidly made its way back down flying towards the drowzee, shrieking as it approached before smacking into the head of Aislyn.
Battered, but prepared for this attack, Aislyn grabbed the Zubat before it could fly away then jumped on top of the Zubat pounding it into the pavement roughly. Aislyn stood back up, though it was clear that this fight had taken its toll on them. The zubat remained on the ground, its breathing rapid, but completely unconscious. The boy’s face grew red with frustration, the color of his face matching the color of his hair. “I had just caught that zubat anyway. I didn’t expect him to do much. If you hadn’t used such dirty tricks this battle and maybe fought with a shred of honesty, I’m sure it would have crushed your drowzee. Maybe try to fight fairly next time!” He shouted, throwing out another pokéball without even returning Zubat to its ball. "Now to show you my good Pokémon. There's no way you beat this one." He said, the red on his face slowly fading as he calmed himself, attempting to regain his composure. "You're just lucky you got a chance to beat one of my pokémon, I figured a weakling like you would be perfect to train my zubat on, but now I'm going to get serious. Lets show this brat what we've been working on Chikorita."
Chikorita burst from its ball, and stood confidently, looking very capable. The chikorita trained its eyes on Finnian and growled lowly. Despite its cute appearance, this chikorita looked like it meant business.
Zubat used Astonish! Drowzee used Pound!
Zubat fainted, Drowzee managed to stay in the fight with 1 HP remaining!
Aislyn has gained 3 levels, and is now level 10! They learn Confusion!
The red-haired trainer is sending out a Chikorita (Level 12), would you like to switch pokémon?
Finnian let out a sigh of relief when Aislyn managed to bring down the Zubat. Things could have ended much, much differently and he knew it. They had gotten lucky, to be sure. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the man was going to walk away now either. Finnian had hoped that would be the result, but it seemed as though he was stuck with this stranger for a bit longer. Maybe this was his last Pokemon, since he'd mentioned it was his strongest. Oh boy, what was he going to do about this?
When the Chikorita appeared, he had to suppress a squeal at how adorable he thought the little Pokemon was. It didn't seem like it would take well to being called cute, though, considering that little growl it gave. Honestly, it would probably take it as well as its trainer would, which was to say not well at all. At this point, he was just steadfastly ignoring what the other man said. There wasn't any point in conversing with him, though Finnian knew well that he'd be sucked into it again at some point during this next battle.
Well, if he was going to send out his toughest Pokemon, Finnian thought he ought to as well. His best bet (his only bet considering the rest of his team) was Florus. "Okay Aislyn, you'd better get back!" he warned, not wanting the Drowzee to get sucked into another battle. She wouldn't make it through. "Let's let Florus take a turn."
He released the odd little Pikachu, who took one look at the Grass-type and thought he didn't really want to fight it. It was a plant, after all, and he wanted to protect the plants. Well, he doubted he was going to get the same treatment from the other Pokemon. So, he readied a ball of electricity and hurled it at the Chikorita. At least the poor Pokemon wasn't going to be burned by anything. Electricity surely didn't hurt plants as much as fire or ice would, right?
Finnian's held back squeel didn't go entirely unnoticed and both the red head and his chikorita narrowed his eyes at him, they didn't look pleased. The boy stared when he saw Florus and then he snorted. "You have dressed up your pokemon?" He asked disdainfully, "Why? Trying to get something special?" The chikorita tilted her head and looked expectantly at the pikachu, wanting him to explain to her, what her trainer asked Finnian. "I'm not going to hold back or promise not to tear your dress," she warned Florus flatly, she was tired if being seen as cute and a softie.
Florus answer first as to gather an electric ball at his tail and then fling it through the air. Chikorita tried to dodge it but was too slow and was sent sprawling to the ground. "At least you don't act like a stupid gentleman during battles," she said with a wry smile. "A fast one, even too fast for you to keep up it seems," the boy stated and looked at Finnian, "and as little control as usual."
"Tackle Chikorita," The red head said calmly as his grass type got back on her feet. "But I'm not going to hold back either, see yourself as warned!" With that she raced forward and tackled Florus head first, making him fall backwards. Electricity danced around her body, but she tensed and stretched and managed to free herself from the threatening paralysis. She looked triumphantly at Florus. "What do you say to that?" She asked proudly.

Now that was something Finnian would respond to. He didn't care if he was insulted, but the second someone came after his friends he had to say something. And his Pokemon were just that: his friends. He cared about them, unlike how this man seemed to feel towards his Pokemon. He hated to think what the guy was like behind closed doors, or towards his enemies. Finnian didn't really think he counted as the latter. They had never met before, and as often as he was able to annoy others that didn't mean he could immediately make someone hate him, right?
"He came to me like that," Finnian replied. "And he is special. He cares about all the plants we come across and he takes care of them." Finnian didn't have any Grass-Types currently, but he felt like Florus would like it if he did. They could hang out together, and he could help them take care of the plant-like aspects they had. Like this Pokemon's leaf.
"I wouldn't expect you to," Florus replied simply. Pokemon rarely ever held back, unless they were against one significantly weaker than themselves and/or they felt it was appropriate.
They clashed, landing apart from each other with a new appreciation for each other's strength. "Not bad," Florus replied. Not that he'd thought the Chikorita was going to be weak or anything. Plants might not look like much sometimes, but they had various ways of defending themselves that were quite impressive. But, so did he, and he had a feeling losing here wouldn't be good for Finnian or himself.
Bending down, he gathered up some dirt in his shovel and transferred it to his free hand, forming it into a ball that was quickly transferred back to the shovel and flung at speed at the other Pokemon. He wouldn't exactly be opposed if some got on the other trainer as well...
"So you bought him dressed up," the redhead stated and it was not a question, "Unbelievable." "You are as weird as the idiots dressing up as their pokemon to 'get a deeper bond with them'," the boy said and made quotation marks with his fingers in the air. "It's an electric type, not a ground or a grass type, try treat it like it and you'll see it will go much better for you instead of this stumbling around you are doing now, get a grip!" the brat snarled. The boy looked down his nose at the pikachu. "It looks ridiculous," he declared but still watched Florus thoughtfully for a few moments. "Chikorita, it might be a laughable opponent but it can still get lucky and paralyse you so keep your distance," he smiled maliciously, "Poison Powder!"
Chikorita beamed when Florus praised her, it wasn't often she heard things like that. She looked curiously as he scooped up some dirt and realized too late what he was trying to do. She tried to dodge but failed and the moist dirt splashed around her and stuck to her feet making it slippery and hard for her to move around fast. A bit fell on her trainer's pants but he didn't seem to care. His order came promptly and she swung her head-leaf through the air and filled the air with poisonous spores, her trainer covered his nose and mouth to avoid getting affected by it himself, a risk Finnian was facing as well. Florus was not as lucky, his apron was too small to help him and no matter how he tried he'd end up inhaling some of the spores and would quickly feel the result of it. The redhead looked smugly.
"Why are you not doing as your trainer says? Is he really that bad?" Chikorita asked curiously while standing on stiff legs in an attempt to keep her balance as she waited for her next order. "And why are you dressed up?" She added as she didn't think Finnian's answer was adequate, and Florus had missed her expectation of him answering it himself.

<Florus used Mud Shot, Chikorita used Poison Powder>
"I didn't buy him!" Finnian protested, somewhat offended by the idea. You didn't buy your friends! He couldn't imagine why anyone would want to do that, or why anyone would go along with it. Surely the other man was just being arrogant, and he didn't actually have to do that. Although, judging by his attitude thus far, Finnian wouldn't have been surprised. Was there even enough money in the world to convince someone to hang out with this guy on a regular basis? Honestly, Finnian didn't know how he managed to annoy people so much just by existing, especially when there was someone like this out there.
Since no amount of arguing with the guy seemed to make things better, Finnian returned to keeping his mouth shut. Let the guy talk then. Maybe he would get tired of hearing his own voice, or maybe he would realize that he was being a big meanie and stop. Finnian certainly hoped so, but he somewhat doubted that would happen.
Florus coughed as the poison settled on him and affected him. Finnian looked at the Pikachu worriedly but didn't say anything for fear of saying the wrong thing. He didn't want to give Florus the wrong command and have him get hurt.
"I don't need to be told what to do," he replied between coughs. Wow, that didn't feel good. He would have to finish this quickly so he could go back to his Pokeball, or get healed if that was possible. "I like looking this way. It helps me tend to the plants too," he concluded, even as he was gathering a ball of electricity in his paws. He raised it over his head and hurled it towards the Chikorita. Hopefully that would prove somewhat more useful.
The still lingering innocence of the grass pokémon watched the coughing mouse with a bit of pity. Or guilt? She couldn't quite work out which one, morals of her trainer muddling what she used to think was so clear before they met. The young chika didn't understand Florus, as was apparent by the expression she returned seconds before the spark of electricity shook her.
"Well at least it hasn't forgotten what it is," the red-head commented dryly. He placed a hand in his pocket and shifted weight to one leg as he observed the electro ball being hurled toward his own pokémon. There wasn't a speck of concern. Instead he looked down at the leafy pokémon like a father expecting the impossible.
The ball of crackling energy collided with her. The distance it closed was done in a flash. A snap slapped through the air like the young chikorita had just received a hand to the cheek; felt like it too. The area of contact burned. Veins popped to splay a dark webbing pattern across her side. She did her best not to cry out. Only the tiniest squeak graced her lips as she hopped to the side far too late.
Poised as a cool kid about to whip out a lighter from his pocket, the boy grinned mildly. "Hmph. If you can still move you can still fight, so don't waste any time," he paused for half a sigh. His being personifying the idea of an eye roll. "Razor Leaf. Now." His demeanor was unresponsive to the affirmative nod and chirp of the chikorita.
"If these two like grass so much who are we to hold it back? Show them what the real thing can do." His tone was threatening, but the boy didn't appear to take any pleasure in it. No wry smile or dark chuckle. His only interest was power; being powerful.
With a spin of her head the grass pokémon unleashed a pair of leaves straight toward Florus. They cut through the air with an unsettling swoosh. Helicopter blades careening right for the pikachu. He couldn't dodge. Each sliced across his body multiple times as they passed. The added pain of the poison burning within made for quite the combo. Everything seemed to turn on end for the plant lover. Even the red-head seemed surprised, but impressed.

??'s Chikorita [Overgrow]: -1 SPD... Used Razor Leaf! Critical Hit! Finnian's Florus [Static]: PSN (-5HP)... Used Electro Ball!
This was rapidly becoming a problem. Florus couldn't take much more, and Finnian knew he needed to be replaced, but with which of his teammates was the question. Talia was the freshest, but she wouldn't stand a chance against the Chikorita. Nor would his Magikarp, even if it hadn't been recently hatched. Aislyn was probably still tired from her previous match, which left... Cara? Well, it wasn't ideal, but it was all he had. And, honestly, if he lost here was it the worst thing in the world? Not really, in his mind. It wasn't like he knew what he was doing at this point. His Pokemon had a better idea of that than he did.
"Okay, Florus, you did good buddy," he said, recalling the Pikachu. Hopefully he had been able to soften up the Chikorita enough that Cara would stand a chance. The little Pokemon had finally evolved, leaving him with a ball of silk instead of the adorable little punching worm he'd initially gotten, but that was all right. She was still cute in his eyes, of course.
"Time for you to try, Cara," he added, tossing out another Pokeball. The Silcoon appeared, looking around for a moment before fixating upon the Chikorita and letting out an angry shriek. She hurled a poisonous barb at the Grass-type as though the other Pokemon had knocked over her favorite vase or something. Oooookay then, Finnian thought.
"Looks like this will be over soon," the redhead said smugly, Florus looked really tired. Chikorita looked excited, she was about to win another battle! She couldn't wait for that wonderful feeling she began to wave her head-leaf around, and she sent a Razor Leaf through the air just as Florus got recalled. It was timed well, Cara barely got to materialized before she was met with a barage of leaves that cut through her silky hide. No wonder she was angry, she was not the only one though. "Chikorita!" the boy exclaimed furiously and the confused look on the grass types face changed to a scared and guilty one. "Don't do anything unless I tell you to! That was a wasted move, now you might have jeopardized it all!" the redhead exploded furiously and Chikorita covered and bowed her head guiltily. The boy huffed and returned to his somewhat cold self, although he clearly still boiled inside. "Make some use of yourself and use Poison Powder," he ordered icy cold and Chikorita released a cloud of purple spores which drifted in Cara's direction. They slowly drifted past the silcoon and Chikorita began to shake while her trainer's face darkened.
Cara's furious shriek made Chikorita jolt from surprise, she had been too distraught to really pay attention and the needles burrowed deep into her skin. She shivered. The boy didn't seem to care, but some of Chikorita's determination came back. "What have I ever done to you?!" She accused angrily and began to try pluck the poisonous needles out of her chest. It was too late, the poison had taken affect.

<Cara switched in, Chikorita used Razor Leaf, Chikorita used Poison Powder (missed!), Cara used Poison Sting> (ooc: rng is with you this time )
Finnian had a feeling the other man was right; one way or another, this was going to be over soon. He still wasn't upset at the thought of losing a battle. What did worry him was what the other guy would do if he won. Would he attempt to take his Pokemon when he didn't have any to defend himself with? Finnian knew he wouldn't win in a fight, but he didn't want any of his friends to have to go with someone who clearly wouldn't be nice to them.
He felt bad for the Chikorita when she was scolded, because she looked like she felt really bad about it. Still, he doubted she would want his sympathy, so he gently bit his lower lip to keep from saying anything. It didn't work, though, and he found himself talking anyway. "Hey, she's doing her best! She almost beat Florus, I'd say she's doing pretty well." He realized that this likely wouldn't change the man's mind, but at least it might distract him and make him focus upon his opponent instead of his own Pokemon again.
The Chikorita wouldn't get an answer from Cara. The Silcoon wasn't one for conversation, fortunately or unfortunately. Instead, she bounded forward, closing the distance between them as quickly as she could. It wasn't easy, given her lack of limbs, but she gave it her best shot.
The red-headed trainer’s anger singed across the young trainer’s face. Anger boiled just below his skin, As he stared down at the grassy green sauropod Pokemon. The young Chikorita’s eyes softened, a sad note tucked away at the corners. She could feel her trainer’s wrath as it boiled just below the skin. She was worried, not about winning the battle anymore, but about her trainer’s anger and disappointment. “Chikorita!” His voice barked, burning its way into auditory cortex.
“Chi..chika!” Her words bounced determinedly. The grass type Pokemon stomped one hoofed paw down on the ground with indignation. There was no way this shell – this husk – would simply come in and wipe out her thunder. The battle was weighing on the sauropod heavily, and she could feel some of the effects starting to wear her stamina down. “Chikorita chika!” She barked at the other Pokemon, commanding it to lose to her, and daring it to try to defeat her at the same time.
“If she’d listen better, she would have already wiped your Pokemon clean out!” The red-headed trainer bit his words, which tasted bitter on his tongue. A lump clawed its way up his throat, causing the trainer to gulp. “Well then – do more than talk! Synthesis, now! Before your weak body collapses completely on you!” He barked, insulting the Pokemon in the way that he chose to describe his own Chikorita.
Chikorita focused on herself and the warming rays of the sun. It pulled in the energy that the bright burning ball of gas released on the earth. A soft, warm glow wrapped highlighted the green sauropod’s from, gently brushing the old battle scars and wounds as Chikorita healed herself over. That was a lifesaver for sure! But not long after, the bug Pokemon crashed into Chikorita.
With a powerful Tackle, the spiky cocoon rushed forward, bounding over and throwing its whole weight against it’s opponent. Chikorita cried out, in surprised pain as Cara managed to hit her. She definitely wasn’t ready for the quick reaction from the other trainer’s Pokemon! After stumbling backwards, Chikorita would bounce back on her feet defiantly, seemingly ready for the next assault. Chikorita could still feel the poison's effects coursing through her body. “Ya ready to lose to a real trainer now?!” The red-head asked Finnean mockingly. Of course we’re going to win! So long as Chikorita doesn’t get another wild hair up her butt and try to do her own thing.

[ALSO, MERRY CHRISTMAS]
Last Edit: Dec 26, 2019 3:39:38 GMT 11 by Caramell 🍬
((Sounds great! You have the cutest icon, oh my goodness. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!))
Finnian sighed softly. The answer he'd gotten was along the lines he'd expected, but it felt good to have tried. All he could do was try, in the end. Remaining silent wasn't something he felt comfortable with in this scenario, despite how many times he told himself it was for the better. At least he hadn't made the situation any worse, as far as he could tell.
The Chikorita could heal herself, which made things all the more difficult. Finnian didn't know she was poisoned, while Cara only suspected it. It would benefit them in the long run. Besides, if she was spending her time healing herself she couldn't attack, and that gave them an opportunity.
Cara briefly considered hunkering down and letting the poison do its job, but since the other Pokemon could heal herself she wasn't sure that was an option. She had no way of knowing how sturdy the Chikorita actually was, and therefore couldn't say whether or not she would survive the poison in her veins for the next couple of exchanges. If she healed herself more, all of their hard work would go out the window.
So, instead of battering down the hatches and riding out the storm, as it were, Cara hurled herself at the Chikorita again. They were certainly close enough to make it feasible still.
