MEMBER OF THE MONTH
We Want Posts that Capture the Spirit of ZapdosZulu! But we can't search alone This works differently than the age old staff-decide-who's-best-this-month. Instead, any member is able to nominate any In-Character post made by another user. You can nominate for any reason you deem unique and worthy of the otM award. Sometimes a post stands out as creative, well-crafted, hilarious, inspiring, engrossing, attention-grabbing, or possessing that special pizzazz. There is no separation of mods and members either; all are equally eligible for nominations. And since we no longer look at activity, it means you could win this award simply by making a single post over the whole month! So get those nominations in and at the end of each month we'll all vote to decide a winner. Here are a few notes regarding this award: - You cannot nominate (or vote for) yourself
- The post must be dated for (or within hours of) the current month
- There are no limits to the number of nominations you can make, but be reasonable
- Multiple nominations for the same member are okay just really consider what makes each one different
- You may Second an existing nomination by quoting it and adding your own reasoning
- It is possible to win consecutive months

I misunderstood, so these posts aren't eligible for MotM since they are all from January! I will be posting my February picks later this month 😊
Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/153672Nominating: Tarlar Reason: I thought this post was very funny, the comment at the start of the post replying to the narrator really subverted my expectations and made me laugh out loud! plus Tarlar consistently does an awesome job of playing an older trainer. This post really brings Astrid to life! Super into Astrid's journey. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/153696Nominating: Hunter Reason: Hunter is a very talented writer, handling the hatching of a scyther egg, naming and describing a brand new pokémon while still managing to fill the post with action. The utilization of the item which the Charmeleon was holding, describing how it tangibly helped the pokemon in battle was really cool. Even though the newborn scyther isn't strong yet, you can tell it's going to be a player at some point in the story, its personality giving Maxwell King a new pokémon with yet another strong personality added to the cast. In addition, the description of battle is very 'show not tell', and I could visualize it really well in my mind. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/154270Nominating: Blackbird Reason: I really love when people use their pokémon in unconventional ways. The tone is so serious as Haley takes on a not-so-legal task, and her pokémon are like children, not all of them are sure of what their trainer is doing, but following along regardless. The different personalities of the pokémon shine through as each of them get a little blurb about how they are perceiving the operation. Love this post, think it's really well written and cool!

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/155184/threadNominating: LamontReason: I don't think I'll ever get tired of Lamont's eloquent ways of describing simple Pokemon battles. There's just something very clean and elegant about it. Writing about Rattata and Pidgey all the time can get quite boring for mods but each of her replies seem fresh and different and I come away with new ideas/perspectives each time. Great job!

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/thread/16561/mice-men-epNominating: Caramell Reason: I thought it was so adorable to have a young trainer agonize and spend so much mental energy on what to name their new partner. It made for a believable first installment to their journey.

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/155773/threadNominating: fylisfeReason: I was really intrigued by the name of Ulysse's Charmander and it seemed very fitting that she was named after a gemstone given Pierre's profession as a fashion designer. I also love that her Charmander has a surname as well, don't think I've seen that before!

Nominating: fylisfeLink to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/156887/threadReason: I like the glimpse into both the backstory and the otherwise well hidden worries of Ulysse, the failed attempt to ask for help was wonderful and sad at the same time. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158118/thread (mod thread) Reason: There was no holding back taking over this long story and continue to both build on the npc's backstory and present the next encounter skillfully and lively. ~~~~ Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/156932/threadNominating: Caramell 🍬Reason: I really like the realisme and uncertainty which is showed here. It is hard to be a new trainer and even something as simple as finding a fitting nickname can be hard, and your first battle is even more difficult. I also like the clear personality of the charmander.

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/157634/threadNominating: GoniReason: A one-of-a-kind way to obtain the running shoes! The description of Kellen washing Sara's hair was gross hilarious and I'm really starting to get a good mental picture of Sara's character now!

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/157975/threadNominating: GoniReason: A superb first Mod post! The scene was set perfectly, the scenario wasn't over-the-top complex but very creatively worked within the confines of what's there in NBT. It reminded me of Jigglypuff in the anime but with a twist! Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158054/threadNominating: fylisfeReason: A very imaginative Pokemon spawn. Linked things well to the previous battle with the Hoothoot searching for the fainted Wurmple and I was very curious to read what would happen with all of the owls showing up!

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158479/threadNominating: GoniReason: I really like the different ways of spending time for a trainer and their pokemon. It is inspiring to see the descriptions of one who is clearly new at this and all the troubles pokemon can cause in an environment they clearly know nothing of, nor how to treat. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158519/threadNominating: KatayaReason: A really interesting and different encounter that is spawned in the thread. Lots of character in the npc's and interesting plot.

Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158519/threadNominating: Kataya Reason: A really interesting and different encounter that is spawned in the thread. Lots of character in the npc's and interesting plot. I second both of these. Sara's pursuit for friendly pokémon recipes and attention to detail regarding the world and her situation, even the little things with how the pokémon act, are exemplary. And Kataya's post is a shining example of the imaginative off-the-rails adventures that can spawn suddenly in anyone's journey. Can't wait to see how it goes!
Nominating: fylisfe Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/156887/threadReason: I like the glimpse into both the backstory and the otherwise well hidden worries of Ulysse, the failed attempt to ask for help was wonderful and sad at the same time. I would also like to second this post as I thought it was a very well written and thought out post. The emotional whiplash and feels put into it is something not often seen here and with all the damaged characters we have around we really should.
Aside from those, I would also like to nominate some new ones... Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158661/threadNominating: Caramell 🍬 Reason: The literal reaction to Spearow dive bombing was executed wonderfully. It's a refreshing break from the typical trainer stepping aside and just executing a battle as if this was one of the games. I think we should encourage this much more, as we are an RP after all ^^ The beauty of taking things in an unexpected direction and rolling with it. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/157307/threadNominating: Sky Reason: The simple playfulness of Sigurd with his 'dinner' is an amusing read. Plus the bonus of expanding on the pidgey's backstory was an interesting addition and a good way to expand Amaryllis' character without focusing on her particularly; as a trainer's pokémon are just as important. Tarlar does this quite a bit too and it's wonderful to see this happening more. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/154497/threadNominating: Tarlar Reason: Tarlar has always had rich posts jam packed with so much going on it can be hard to feel like you're returning with equal quality. However, I thought this post was particularly worthy of a nomination due to the willingness to go off the rails herself and provide something more for mods to work off of. It makes it more of a mutual effort toward a more interesting adventure and the spin off that came from it is so far really great.

Link to Post: This Post in Fresh out of the GateNominating: KatayaReason: It's a nice read that helps you understand just who Blaine is. I like getting an inside-view of a character's inner thoughts and reflective memories. I also loved the acknowledgement towards the initial choice that a trainer makes between the three Starters, and what it's like to rethink your option as you're walking away with your new starter. Blaine feeling nervous about possibly meeting another trainer, and contemplating a way he could avoid a battle instead, also feels genuine and authentic for a new trainer.

I think we should encourage this much more, as we are an RP after all ^^ The beauty of taking things in an unexpected direction and rolling with it. I'd like to second this, although I think Lamont has said it all. I like how challenged Kogasu is with hitting the spearow (and that it isn't just copying Ash from the anime and letting the charmander attacking the trainer as well) Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158625/threadNominating: LamontReason: I like the realistic reaction from the dancer to the falling dunsparces XD It shows the character so well, and I like what it has set up with the use of surf down there, and what affect it will have on Lenore. Link to Post: zapdoszulu.proboards.com/post/158135/threadNominating: zenaReason: It is not often you see a trainer trying to help a wild pokemon after having beat it down, other than by trying to capture it. This was a wonderful opening for the mods to do something else than a normal encounter.

Link to Post: mod post in Kataya's Fresh out of the GateNominating: Lamont Reason: First off, it's funny. Easy to understand descriptions that doubles as a fun read, both in variety of words and the personality of an individual shining through. The balance between wariness and curiosity from the hoothoot is well played, and the introduction of Grandpa Noc is a kind of startling surprise that forces laughter. It's also an example of how encounters can be varied in different veins, and how to roll with a player trying out something else.
