Wren listened to Timmy as he described his circumstances. It's tough being young. They sympathized. The teal haired trainer gave Timmy a reassuring smile. "That's the spirit. I just know you'll do great!"
"I haven't seen that one yet! Maybe I can show you some of what I learned these past few days," The trainer readied a pokeball from their belt containing River the Azurill. "River! Come out and use Bubblebeam!"
Something about that moment an encounter in the wild starts fills Wren with adrenaline like electricity rippling through their veins. Being a trainer was all sorts of excitement, especially with an audience!

Timmy grinned shyly to Wren, "thanks! I really hope I'm getting a good pokemon to start with!" He looked thoughtful for a moment, "How old are you? Is.." He looked down at Vera and frowned as he tried to remember what Wren had called the bulbasaur, "..Sera? Your starter?"The kid really hoped it would be easier with a pokemon by his side, it had been scary out here on his own, especially with the flood that had come. Now with an adult with him who had pokemon it was all safe again and the thought of traveling began to look exciting once more. "A chatot!" Timmy shouted excited, "they are so cool!""Cha cha chatot, so cool, so cool, Maybe I can show!" The bird mimicked what it had heard and puffed out its feathers proudly, preening them a bit. "Are you going to catch it?" Timmy asked eagerly and glanced at Wren. The bird tilted its head when it spotted the pokeball, "Ching!" It mimicked the sound of a pokeball catching a pokemon, which it continued to do until River appeared at which it changed to the sound of the creek's mumbling water. Chatot spread its wings and glided down to land beside River, it leaned forward and whispered something to her, which made the azurill shy away in shock. The Chatot took a step forward and leaned in again, but that was it! River wouldn't have it and she blasted it back with a powerful Bubble Beam which clearly took the bird by complete surprise. "Yeah, Vera is my starter! She's a wonderful Pokemon, and very sweet." Wren replied before the initial battle started. ---
The tiny Azurill shivered as it heard the Chatot's chatter. It seemed to distract her, making her less apt to deal damage. She shook it off best she could, but the effect still remained. "River! Bounce up and use Slam!" The tiny blue Pokemon bounced several times to gain momentum to knock the Chatot out of the tree.

"I hope I get a sweet Pokemon too! I don't like the mean ones..." Timmy commented, thinking and daydreaming a little about his first Pokemon. "SLAM DUNK! TIME'S OUT! SCOOOORE!" The Chatot blabbered something seemingly randomly and unrelated, mocking the way the young trainer was calling her attack, as the Pokemon recited sounds that it had heard when it recognized the sound "Slam". River continued bouncing until she felt enough momentum was built, then, the normal type hare bounced rapidly toward the Chatot and slammed it hard. The bird cawed in pain as the impact hit its body. It's starting to look weary, and one more attack should conclude this battle. "This one sounded mean, maybe I don't want a Chatot." Timmy mused out loud after hearing the way the Chatot spoke. Wren couldn't help but chuckle at the situation. The chatot's nonsensical gibberish, Timmy's reaction, and the positive position of the battle made them smile. "Yeah, they have quite the personalities."
River's confidence bolstered with the strong hit thanks to its ability. She bounced to her rhythm and kept momentum, waiting to strike once more. "Let's do it again, River! Slam!"

"Mean! I don't like the mean ones! Slam! Slam dunk! Score!" parroted the Chatot before it swooped down and pecked at the azurill who had already whittled down its HP pretty significantly. The light pecks were pretty ineffective, and while it was ground, it was quite literally a sitting ducklet. River saw her opportunity and BAM! She slammed her whole body weight down on top of the bird and squished it. This time the chatot stayed down in a daze, mumbling incoherently as it laid there.
"Woah. Your pokemon are so strong," Timmy exclaimed. "It took out that mean bird so fast. I think...I think I want a pokemon that is sweet AND strong. That way it can keep me safe when I camp. I...I don't think I'll go camping alone again. Not when there's wild pokemon that can destroy my camp or chase me if I leave my tent." He looked a little guilty. Wren listened to Timmy's realization and nodded. "From what I understand," They began. "...Pokémon can take advantage of your fear and turn it into power over you if you're not careful. Stronger trainers have a developed attitude that commands respect from their partners. They don't necessarily have to be mean and strict, but you can't fear them." They spoke in relation to Pokémon in general. "I watched a lot of matches back in Ballonlea, Galar. Opal, the Gym leader there, had that attitude that commands respect." They had a lot to learn, but they imparted what they know to the future trainer.
After sharing their wisdom, Wren walked over to River and happily picked up the sweet blue baby. River cheered for herself proudly with a resounding: "Azuuu!" The trainer shuffled over to the Chatot lying on the grass, defeated. They gently provide a Pokéball from the bag with one hand, knelt down, and gently pressed the trigger button to the forehead to catch it. River was cradled in their other hand.
"I'm sorry, love." They provided to the conked-out Pokémon, feeling a tad guilty. They had gotten swept up in the heat of battle and the fact they had an audience. The bird will get a healthy meal when they all get back to the Pokémon Center.

Sirens wailed in the distance as police cars tore down the open roads in hot pursuit of the lates burglar. Spencer delighted in his recent scheme with a bag chock full of randomized Poke Balls slung over his back. He cut through the back alleyways and hopped over tall fences, racing across the ground on the tips of tis toes. The police were so slow and sluggish that Burglar Spencer was positive that he would be far away by the time they finally managed to catch up to him. And all the beautiful and rare Pokemon he’d recently pilfered from the Poke Center would be all his! Racing through Route 30, Spencer jumped over large bushes and spun around wide oaks in his haste. Anyone that got in his way was immediately shoved to the ground or kicked out of the way with a gruff, “Watch where you’re going, idiot!” He couldn’t be slowed down for anyone or anything. His heart raced inside of his chest and though he knew he was almost out of the clear, the sounds of police sirens hot on his tail kept his legs thumping against the ground as he raced against the clock. He wouldn’t notice Wren in the midst of his path, though, and would come colliding into them headfirst. “What the…?! Hey! Watch where you’re going!” Burglar Spencer snapped angrily. His beg fell out of his hand causing the many Poke Balls he’d stolen to spill out on the grassy ground around them. Spencer’s eyes bugged out as though they might pop out of his head. Noo! He’d worked so hard stealing them all! Now this idiot had gotten completely in his way and might cost him everything! “You’d better apologize and help me all my goods back in my bag or I’m going to make you pay!” Burglar Spencer threatened angrily. Burglar Spencer challenges Wren! He'll send out his Level 8 Koffing. Who will Wren send out? As Wren is knocked down by the stranger, River bounces on her tail and catches herself as her trainer his knocked down on the grass. The trainer immediately sensed bad vibes and the type of hostility a robber would carry. They had their fair share of experiences with shady folks while working customer service. "No." They put plainly. "I don't think I will." They brushed themselves off and looked over to River, who was ready to rumble. Wren flourished their hand as their pokemon got between them and the stranger. The background serenade to his recent act rang in the back of the burglar's brain. Palms sweaty he reached for one of his pokeballs, missing the button the first time. "You wanna have a go?" he half shouted rhetorically, fumes rising. Literally as his koffing was thrown onto the scene. "Koffing, Poison Gas!" he ordered as he fumbled the ball back into his pocket. "You can suffer through this or help me get all these back in the bag and I'll get out of here," he continued as if a second offering would convince the girl. She hadn't even winced. It was like she had dealt with this sorta thing before. She made him nervous, as could be apparent by the slight fidgeting as he debated his situation internally. "She a cop..?" One of those citizen cops could be. Whoever she may be didn't matter, he needed to scoop up what he could before those sirens broke the corner. Good chance he'd lost them with his clean break and they'd go the wrong way but... As the barrage of bubble and gas met each other in the impromptu battle field the burglar skittered to his bag and began best efforts in hurriedly rolling and grabbing the scattered devices back into his possession. River's bubble beam did well to help provide some break in the ever expanding swoosh of poison gas, but Koffing was well known as such a dispensary. River coughed as the poisonous gas descended onto the field. The little Azurill struggled to bounce as she lost health, but she had faith in her nonbinary trainer; they haven't let her down yet!
Wren ignored the burglars' threats in exchange for instructing River to Bubblebeam one more time. "Hit 'em with Bubblebeam!" Wren hoped that the commotion was enough to draw attention to their battle. "Timmy, can you inform Officer Jenny?" They asked behind them to the child, who was precious cargo to their mission back in town.

Timmy found himself frozen behind the trainer, stunned by the unfolding situation. The aggressive intruder was shouting and trying to push the trainer around while hastily gathering stolen goods. Timmy had never encountered such blatant rudeness before and felt unsure about how to react when the situation escalated into a battle. Wren's voice broke through his paralysis, and he looked up, clearly flustered. " Um..." Timmy hesitated, his fear of going off alone resurfacing. But he knew that if he wanted to become a trainer, he had to face this fear. This time, he resolved to put on his brave face. After all, Wryn had helped him, and now it was his turn to assist Wryn. " Okay! I'll go get Officer Jenny!" With determination, he hurried off along the path in search of assistance. Meanwhile, the burglar frantically snatched pokeballs one after another, attempting to grab several at once and only succeeding in creating more chaos. His trembling hands and reddening face betrayed his growing frustration and anxiety. Time was slipping away, and the uncooperative kid only added to his aggravation. As the Azurill unleashed another barrage of bubbles, striking the Koffing and sending it teetering, Spencer erupted in fury. " Gah! It's all your fault! I'll teach you a lesson!" he shouted, glaring at his struggling Koffing. " You useless ball! Smother that rat, use Smog!" With a command hurled, he returned his attention to gathering Poke Balls while keeping a wary eye on the battle. The Koffing obediently inhaled deeply before releasing a dark cloud of noxious gas, enveloping River completely. The foul odor alone caused discomfort to everyone nearby, let alone standing directly in its midst. vs Burglar Spencer Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Koffing LV 8 HP 23% [6/26]

Galar used to have its own fair share of hooligans, back when Wren lived in Ballonlea. Not super-coordinated like the Team Rocket they hear in the news long ago, but people itching with greed and general bad Applins in the bunch. The trainer tried not to roll their eyes at the sad excuse in front of them blaming their pokemon for his own incompetence. Though it really wasn't their style, violence via pokemon battle is probably the only plausible solution for buying enough time for the feds to show up.
River wasn't doing too hot; she could take another hit, but the poison was slowly doing its work. She bounced vigorously, trying desperately to give herself a second wind as she bounced on her tail. The small prey-like pokemon had a delicate courage much like her trainer did, and in the scene of adversity she knew that her opponent wasn't going to last much longer. With another high bounce leading to a tailspin, Wren ordered River to shoot one more Bubblebeam.

Spencer's heart raced as chaos continued to reign around him. The foul stench of his Koffing's Smog lingered in the air like a dark omen, a tangible reminder of his own failures. His fingers trembled as he fumbled with the stolen Pokeballs, each one slipping further from his grasp. With a snarl, he watched as River, that pesky Azurill, launched another assault with her Bubblebeam, striking true and sending his Koffing spiraling into defeat. Spencer cursed under his breath, his frustration bubbling over like a boiling cauldron. "Damn it all!" he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "You useless sack of gas! Get out of here!" With a frustrated swipe, he recalled his fallen Koffing, the Pokeball shimmering with a sense of defeat. But Spencer was not one to give up easily. No, he was a survivor, a scrapper, and he still had one trick up his sleeve. With a sly grin, he withdrew another Pokeball from his belt and released his next contender: a Fletchling, its feathers ruffled with a fierce determination. The bird Pokemon let out a sharp cry, its eyes glinting with a fierce intensity that matched Spencer's own. This was his chance for redemption, his opportunity to turn the tide and emerge victorious against these meddling trainers and their irritating Pokemon.
River gains 1 level and is now level 15. River can learn Bounce buts he already knows 4 moves. Would you like to forget a move so she can learn Bounce? HP is 21/44 after levelling up! Spencer sends out Fletchling [level 10]. Will Wren select a new Pokemon?

The way the crude man talked to his Pokémon made Wren sick to their stomach. They felt disappointment in this man that they have only seen today. Disappointment festers into anger, despite Wren knowing that there was obviously a tragedy to the man's life if he is to stoop this low to steal pokéballs and assault strangers.
"Don't you dare call them that! What is wrong with you?!" They exclaimed, enraged. River glanced back in surprise at her trainer's outburst. "...Sorry, River. You did great; return." They shriveled in embarrassment as they extracted River from battle. "Let's do this, Mina!" As the pokéball flew high in the air, it released the ethereal essence of the fluffy Flaaffy, Mina. She unfurls herself from a napping position and smacks her tail against the ground in excitement. "Flaa!" Her wool crackled with light and electricity, displaying the control of her powers she mastered after she evolved. "Thundershock, please!" Wren ordered, demanding confidence in their stomp against the ground. I'm not gonna lose. Not here, and not ever. _____________________
