The man didn’t look up until a few seconds after Tanya had spoken to him. His Vulpix bounded up to Tanya’s feet, sniffing before letting a pleased cry of its name. Angelus looked down at the creature from Tanya’s shoulder, noting that it looked strong and was probably trained well. If they were to battle, she’d need to be super careful. The boy’s warm gray eyes studied the girls form a moment, before they disappeared behind his eyes lids. He stood up before holding his hand out to her. “Hey there, the name is Porter. So you want a battle huh? I don’t see why me and Pepper can’t give you one. What do you say girl?” He asked, shifting to look down as his peppy little Vulpix. Pepper jumped up onto Porter’s shoulder and cooed. “Guess that’s a yes, we’ll try to give you a good battle then little lady. You see, there isn’t much to do in Azalea town, so me and the other residents are always happy to battle!” He explained as Pepper jumped down to face her opponents. “By the way, if you need any directions after we battle, I’d be happy to take you to Azalea. I’m sure the other residents would be happy to meet you!” He said politely, allowing Tanya to get ready for the battle herself. ______________________________________________________ InfoYou have challenged Hiker Porter to a battle! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Tanya was enraptured by the cute little fox gamboling about by her feet. She'd always had a rather fond spot for the Fire type and wanted one of her own, though the last one she'd encountered had nearly tainted her view. Helga wasn't totally at fault though, considering the ass she had for a trainer - or hopefully no longer had. Angelus looked back at her trainer and scowled, annoyed that the spotlight wasn't on her. She was the cutest one around here!
The fox's trainer introduced himself and his Pokémon then, leaving Tanya to bow her head politely. "Sorry for not introducing myself - that was rude. My name is Tanya," the girl smiled before gesturing to her impatiently waiting Buneary. "Angelus is the sweet little Buneary I'll be using."
At her trainer's compliment the rabbit perked up visibly, blushing gently. Her Soothe Bell twinkled merrily as she bounded around her trainer, punching the air in a manner that spoke of readiness. Tanya tried not to laugh and offend the little drama queen unnecessarily. She tightened her pony tail while listening to Porter talk about how Azalea didn't see much in terms of action. She nodded sympathetically, unable to claim the same of her home town. Blackthorn was a hotbed of activity, whether it be tourists or raring trainers aiming to battle Clair. "Then Ang and I will be glad to liven things up!"
His offer of directions made her smile widen into a grin as she took a few paces back to make room for the battlers. "That'd be great, actually. I'm not all too reliant on the map function of my PokéGear, and I think I'm more inclined to trust a local who knows their way around," Tanya replied with an amused tone to her voice. She then lapsed into silence, delving into her memory.
Most Vulpix preferred the route of special attacks, rendering Defense Curl useless, and the fact of being a Fire type nixing Ice Beam in the bud. Both Pound and Quick Attack scored boosts by being the same type as her Buneary, though the distinction between the two was only which one hit first. She was damn sure Angelus could outspeed the fox without having to move the quickest, but one never knew what could happen. Smiling confidently, Tanya raised her arm and flicked out her fingers as Angelus hopped into a ready position. "Go in with Quick Attack!" the auburn haired girl commanded.
"Neary!" Angelus responded, bouncing once before turning into a tan-brown blur, exploding forwards in a burst of speed. The ribbon-free ear on her head coiled against her skull, aiming to strike out once she got within distance of Pepper.

Pepper shifted uncomfortably as the little brown Buneary came charging at her, so quickly that a bright light streaked behind her as she did. Porter watched the Angelus as she moved, his gray eyes flickering with a thought train that seemed like it couldn’t be followed. Pepper squeaked in pain as she was thrown back by the Buneary’s attack. The Vulpix frowned as she struggled back to her feet, and looked back at Porter for an order. He gave his thought train another minute before answering his Vulpix’s looks. “Alright Pepper, let’s start thing’s up with a Tail whip, you got it?” Pepper gave another pleased yip and turned around, so her pretty little six tails were facing her opponent. “Vul!” Her tails shook as she moved her tiny orange body, a blue light radiating from them. For a moment, Angelus seemed to be locked in a trance, only coming out of it when the Vulpix flipped around suddenly. Her defense stat had dropped, and that was something the Buneary wasn’t exactly pleased about. “Good job Pepper, just keep up the good work, as always.” Pepper was pleased with the simple praise she had received from Porter, and held her head up proudly. Porter then warmly directed his attention to Tanya. “I hope me and Pepper can show you that the residents of Azalea town are quite tough, and so is our star battler, Bugsy.” He commented, stopping momentarily to reflect on the Gym Leader’s awesome battling strategy. ______________________________________________________ Battle!Porter's Pepper |Level 16| Health: 71% (34/48 HP)Status: Normal Attack: A successful Tail Whip. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It took a fair amount of self-control to not squeal over the cute display of Tail Whip. She only needed to remind herself of Angelus' reaction to quash the desire and focus more on the logic. Of course she hadn't thought about Tail Whip, having given more credence to her idea of the fox being more special attack oriented. Even so, if it possessed a physical attack, it didn't gain the same type attack boost look her partner did.
Using a turn for Defense Curl would be a complete and utter waste, and invite a free attack. Tanya cupped her chin, green eyes completely sober and focused. Angelus adjusted the purple ribbon tied around her right ear, making sure it wouldn't fall off when she went on the offensive again.
"I believe you there!" Tanya replied to Porter's last statement, her mind wandering again. Bugsy... she knew about him from the books she'd read, knowing that he specialized in Bug types. She already had the Pokémon to defeat him, but simply lacked the training. There was no rush to go and challenge him though, with plenty of things to do in and around Azalea. Like visiting Slowpoke Well for one thing. Perhaps she'd find some good foes to train her two aces.
Returning her attention to the battle, Tanya sorted through the pros and cons of Angelus' two main modes of offense. If Pepper possessed Quick Attack, then it was essential Angelus get the first strikes for each turn before her health was whittled to zero. Nodding to herself quickly, Tanya raised her hand up and flicked her fingers out in her signature habit.
"Okay Angelus, let's show them how we from Blackthorn roll! Quick Attack!" Tanya grinned, placing her confidence firmly in her little brown bunny. Though she had her faults, the rabbit had done a fine job with the gym battle they had managed to complete, and she had no reason not to trust the little Buneary she'd raised from an egg. With another few mock punches thrown in the air, Angelus prepped herself before launching forwards again in a burst of speed, ear coiling against her head just like the last time.

Once again, Angelus managed to get the first strike in. The Rabbit hopped forwards after a small display. Pepper braced herself for the collision, and this time managed not to slide back too far as she was hit. Angelus headed back over to Tanya’s side, bouncing around, Pepper was getting weaker, so that was good news. Porter chuckled and looked down at Pepper. This combo that the pair always executed did a good amount of damage to many of their opponents, and he hoped Tanya would be no different. Pepper already knew what the man was planning but waited for orders anyhow. “Alright Pepper, spice this up a bit with fire spin!” Pepper, breathed in, letting the hot Summer air collect in the fire core inside her body, before unleashing it all in a spinning vortex of fire. The tornado of flames came at Angelus faster than she could blink, enveloping her in a pocket of fire. Once released, the Buneary panted a bit. Pepper and Porter’s strategy allowed them more access to better damage with Fire Spin. “Wow, I’m having a blast and this battles barley just started!” Porter commented politely, watching as Pepper twirled in her agreement. The flames once again surrounded Angelus, giving her a bit more damage. She was caught in a small vortex, that would harm her every turn, for the next few turns. ______________________________________________________ Battle!Porter's Pepper |Level 16| Health: 50% (24/48 HP)Status: Normal Attack: A successful Fire Spin. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With the air still moist and thick from the earlier thunderstorm, the last thing she wanted was to be subject to fire. Angelus landed her attack and quickly hurried back to her trainer's side, unwilling to become a victim of a sneaky counter attack that she never saw coming. Lots of Pokémon liked to do their return fire on the sly in the hopes of causing more damage, or just getting a little slice of revenge.
The exchange between Porter and Pepper wasn't missed by Tanya, whose eyebrows rose up slightly out of concern just seconds before the fox let loose a spray of fire that wound itself around Angelus like a fiery tornado. The Buneary let out a pained cry as the fire singed her skin before thinning out, leaving her encircled by a veil of flames.
Fire Spin meant constant damage for several turns, but hopefully it wouldn't restrict Angelus from repeating her attacks. Angelus, surprisingly, wasn't worried about taking damage. She seemed more concerned in keeping her flammable accessories away from the whirling flames that circled round her like will-o-the-wisps on an invisible air current. Every time a flame passed too close to her silk ribbons, the rabbit would shrink black and glare at the tornado, looking supremely offended.
Tanya bit her lip and sighed, a smile teasing her face. Sometimes she wanted to crack her head off a wall over her Pokémon, and other times she wanted to burst into hysterical laughter. They had personality alright, and she was glad they did. If they simply did what they were told, then where was the fun in that? Angelus turned, her brown eyes sparking as she became annoyed with the lack of direction from her daydreaming trainer. "Bun, bu buneary!" the rabbit cried, bouncing around to get the auburn haired girl's attention.
Looking mildly at her rabbit, Tanya merely smiled warmly before flicking her fingers at Pepper again. "Sorry sweetie, just thinking. I hope you can handle this!" the girl said to Porter, switching focus mid-conversation. Her green eyes were shining with determination as she spoke once more to get her Buneary moving.
"Same deal as before hun, go for it with Quick Attack!" Tanya ordered smoothly, not skipping a beat. It seemed slightly repetitive, but it was her best avenue of attack. Angelus needed the speed and attack bonus before she became victim to the ring of fire still spinning around her like some odd solar system.
Shedding her usual pre-attack show, the rabbit leapt straight into her attack and raced forwards, the tornado of fire following her. It was a fairly comical sight, to be honest, and Tanya couldn't quite hide a grin from her face as Angelus sprang for Pepper once again.

(OOC: Okay, so I didn’t see the note you made about Saphy way earlier, so I fixed her levels, and would you like her to learn scary face?)______________________________________________________ Porter began to think that Tanya was being repetitive, but hey, who was he to judge? It was probably the only useful move her Buneary had against his Pepper. Angelus bounded forward with all the speed and the grace a Lopunny would have. Buneary was close enough anyway. Pepper couldn't move fast enough, and was hit by the speeding rabbit, sliding back, and panting. Her health was getting low now, and Porter felt sorry he had forgotten to get items while out in Violet city. “Angelus is well trained, I’d be proud if I was her trainer. Though you know, we’ve got some tricks of our own. Pepper, you use your Quick attack too!” Pepper took a few seconds to get enough of her strength back to obey the command, but once she had, the fox was off and running. She ran, faster and faster, until she was in striking range of Angelus, and then she pounced, knocking the Buneary over. After making sure she used enough force, Pepper bounded back over to Porter, who praised her right away. Porter was a nice guy, and not a bad battler, but the sooner the battle was over, the better. ______________________________________________________ Battle!Porter's Pepper |Level 16| Health: 29% (14/48 HP)Status: Normal Attack: A successful Quick Attack. Pound was a viable alternative, and probably had the same power packed in it like Quick Attack, but with Angelus' defense down a level and having her trapped in Fire Spin, the speedier attack was her only refrain. She'd also seen a move spammed against herself once, and the memory of it was nearly burned into her mind. That damn Nidorino... it had taken all of her strength not to rip his trainer a new one.
Tanya watched the two Pokémon square off again, leaving Angelus slightly more worse for the wear. Her Buneary was breathing a little heavier now, kneeling on the ground as she fought to catch her breath. That last attack from Pepper had winded her something fierce, though she was loathe to admit.
A strong urge to start stomping her feet in rage was beginning to rise up, even though it was rather inappropriate. Just because some of her past battles had been smooth going didn't mean all her battles had to go the same way. At the boy's compliment, Angelus blushed. It had been meant more for her trainer, but she caught the gist of it and felt proud of herself for that moment. Tanya grinned at Porter and then fixed it on Angelus, who had turned at that very second. The Buneary squealed and blushed even deeper, pressing her paws to her cheeks and hopping around in a most adorable manner.
"I've been raising her since she hatched from an egg. We've both come a long way since then," the mahogany haired girl agreed, tightening her ponytail before searching over Pepper, wondering if the cute russet fox had any weak points. Perhaps a blow from the side would hit harder than an upfront assault. Nodding to herself out of habit, Tanya flicked her fingers out.
Angelus had managed to sober up from her embarrassment and was awaiting her orders as usual. She tensed, whole little body quivering with anxiety. "One more go with Quick Attack, speed queen! Hit her from the side!" her trainer commanded, watching with slightly anxious eyes as the rabbit ran forwards, angling herself just away from Pepper.
Once she felt she was far enough out and close to her opponent, the Buneary lunged to the side with her shoulder out, aiming to slam it into the Vulpix and jar her a little. A shock attack might be the key to winning the battle and gaining some much needed experience.

Angelus was off like a bottle rocket, only pausing in the attack to jump and land a sharp, fast blow to the little fox’s side. Angelus landed and hopped back to Tanya in a fashion that probably resembled a special ninja or something along those lines, quick and nimble. Pepper struggled to stay on her feet, but Porter only smiled. He knew the battle was over. Pepper had no more energy, and he wasn’t going to make her stand anymore than she had too. He stepped over to her and gingerly picked her up, patting the injured Pokémon softly before returning her. Porter than turned to Tanya and grinned. He was certainly happy at the results of this battle, now he knew she was worth bringing out to Azalea town. “Well, that’s that I guess. I love the bond between you and Angelus, she worked hard to earn that victory for you, and the look in her eyes really showed it!” He pulled out a small envelope and handed it to Tanya. “Sorry I don’t exactly have a lot of money to give you… salary isn’t really high where I work… but, instead I can give you a tour guide for your stay in Azalea! I mean, if you’d like that…” He explained, looking out in the direction of his beloved Hometown. Pulling out another Pokeball, he let it fly, revealing a cute little male Nidoran. He twisted his head and stared up at Porter, though he already knew what the man wanted. Carefully, he lifted himself to his feet and started off in the direction of Azalea. “That’s Salt, he’s too old to battle anymore, but he’s been my main partner ever since I was old enough to train Pokémon.” Porter left out the part about Salt being a bit of a compass. He knew the way to town sure, but Salt always guided him to be sure he was going the right way just in case. The Nidoran did after all; know the path like the back of his paws. Porter quickly cleared his throat. “Well, let’s go then, leave any questions you might have to me!” Cheerfully, he followed after Salt, Azalea not too far ahead. ______________________________________________________ InfoYou have defeated Hiker Porter! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Proving she was as strong as the others on her team, Angelus secured her victory with one final effort, knocking Pepper out at last. The rabbit executed a neat and smooth return to her trainer's side, free from the ring of flames that had kept her its tortured prisoner. She was a little sooty from the experience, but pleased with herself and how the battle had gone.
Tanya knelt down and offered her hand to Angelus, who immediately high-fived it and giggled sweetly. "You did yourself proud there sweetie!" she told her Pokémon in a tone that spoke of immense pride. Pulling the Buneary's ball from her pocket, she recalled the tired Normal type and put it away before Porter approached her.
Accepting the envelope with a bit of reluctance (I already earned my fair share earlier...), Tanya smiled back at her former opponent, glad he was still being kind and hadn't turned bitter over the outcome. "Oh don't worry about it. I live more for the battles than the rewards," the fiery haired girl replied easily. It was completely true of course - while money was nice, she enjoyed the thrill of the fight even more. Tanya slid the envelope into the pocket of her sweatshirt jacket, adjusting the straps on her backpack as her guide sent out another Pokémon, this one being a purple Nidoran♂.
A flicker of unease ran through her as she once again recalled the battle against Samiel that had driven her up a wall. But these were two vastly different Pokémon and circumstances, and she wouldn't let a previous experience taint her view. Tanya listened to Porter introducing the Poison type and waved in a friendly manner at the Nidoran♂. "Awesome. I'm glad you're leading me back. Arceus knows I'd make myself even more lost without some tidbit of help," Tanya joked. Making sure she had everything in place, the girl took one last look around the area.
It was nice enough, but she didn't want to stick around to see if any booger monsters lay waiting for her to get lost again. A shiver ran down her spine as Tanya turned back and hurried after Porter, unwilling to become stranded and have to resort to dire means to get back to town. Better off following someone who had the knowledge and know-how to get back and eventually get home.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Her day started like every other day; exhausted. Sleep deprived thanks to nightmares of what she'd seen the other day had kept her free of a shred of peace throughout the night, and left her a perpetual zombie as she shuffled around the kitchen of her cottage. Sable, her friend, was already at the kitchen table, holding a newspaper aloft in one hand and balancing a mug of steaming coffee in the other. The brown-haired girl looked up at Tanya and smiled. "Morning, T-bird," Sable crooned, setting her items down before sweeping out of her seat.
"'Good' morning?" the other girl replied with bitterness, rooting around the cupboards for a bowl. The birdkeeper walked to the pantry and extracted a box of cereal before whizzing over to the fridge to grab a carton of milk. Snatching the bowl from Tanya's hands, Sable made up her breakfast and placed it at the table and patted the chair behind it. "Sit. Here's a spoon for ya," Sable said cheerily, tossing the silver utensil onto the table.
Tanya sat and began eating mutely, nodding once when her friend set down a mug of coffee with milk and lots of sugar. They ate and drank in companionable silence until Tanya was finished, letting her spoon clatter noisily against the side of the bowl. "I know you've got a lot on your mind, so just go out for a while and clear your head. Why not train that sweet little Poochyena of yours who likes to sleep with you?" the other girl offered, clearing away the dishes from the table.
Verchiel had taken up the post of guard wolf, and had indeed been sleeping on a small bed next to his trainer's. Though young and having been through a near-trauma, he seemed to sense the discomfort Tanya had been feeling since arriving in Azalea. And speak of the silver devil, the little wolf came trotting right in, his red eyes trained on his master. Tongue lolling happily, tail wagging, Verchiel sat his head on his trainer's lap and yipped. Grinning despite herself, the teenage reached over and scritched his head affectionately before a hand emerged in her sight. A blue dog collar embedded with small, blunt spikes and fake dog tags was sat on the table before her, a parting gift from Sable before the bird girl left to train her aerial partners for another day.
Looking at the collar, Tanya reached in her pocket and extracted the Lucky Egg she'd recollected from Tempesta after her evolution. She managed to secure it with the collar against Verchiel's neck by leaving it loose enough to not choke him, yet tight enough the egg wouldn't go flying with a rough hit. "I'm not really the moping kind, and I wouldn't mind seeing your handsome face evolve. Alright Verch, let's go do some training eh?" she asked the Dark type, who barked and raced for the front door.
Already dressed, Tanya grabbed a thin gray jacket from a peg by the door and tossed it on over her gray and black long sleeved shirt before slipping into her boots and exiting her cottage. With Verchiel in the lead, the duo made it to Azalea with time to spare and headed out towards the fringes, ignoring the brisk temperatures and overcast skies to wait around for something, or someone, to find them waiting and huddled against a chilly breeze.

Unfortunately, the day did not have many good things in store for Azalea town’s Porter. The young man paced around the area with a certain concern to him. How could he lose something so Important? And more importantly, how did he lose such a thing to a pair of Jigglypuff and their wily trainer. Here was the situation: He had been carrying a really important parcel for his grandpa, when two Jigglypuff came from absolutely nowhere and took it from him. He knew these Jigglypuff, and they belonged to Vella, a girl who had fallen in love with him to the point of obsessing over him. Though, the poor boy hadn’t been so keen to return her feelings, so to get his attention, she had probably used this ploy. Pepper was licking at her beautiful eggshell coat close by. Being newly evolved, the young Pokémon had picked up a new trick or two, thanks to Porter. As well as being well groomed by Porter himself, which was a good bonus. The Ninetails looked up at her trainer, her crimson eyes following every pace he made. “Nine…” She chirped, sauntering over to him and brushing lovingly against his legs. Porter looked down at her, pressing his hand into her smooth fur. He loved Pepper because she always seemed to know how to calm his nerves. Even so, the problem was still a big problem. He pressed his other hand to his face, trying to qualm his growing headache. The overcast sky wasn’t helping his mood, and he started to walk, followed closely by Pepper. “Pep, what am I going to do? Vella won’t give it back willingly, you know?” He really needed a good battle about now. He remembered the last decent battle he had had was against a girl named Tanya. He enjoyed that battle. Pepper paused, staring out onto the path in front of them. Coming from the opposite direction was Tanya herself, alongside a Wolf Pup Pokémon. “Nine Nine!” Porter looked up, relieved to see the girl. Maybe she wouldn’t mind a battle again. Pepper wasn’t much stronger than last time, anyway. He ran up to her quickly, stopping to catch his breath. “Tanya! I heard…you beat Team Rocket from Kurt, thanks for that. We were wondering why there was no Slowpoke around.” His face turned a deep red. That was a stupid thing to mention at a time like this. “Uh….anyway…I’m having a bit of a problem now Tanya…and for now I want to get my mind off it…would you mind battling me and Pepper again? Like before?” he questioned. Pepper walked up to Tanya and brushed up against her, before standing in front of Porter in a battle stance. “Pep, she hasn’t said yes yet!” Pepper cried out to let him know she didn’t care, and Porter sighed. Pepper sat down, licked her paw and brushed it over the pretty red ribbon around her neck, waiting on Tanya. ___________________________________________________ InfoYou are challenged to a battle by Hiker Porter!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One thing Tanya marveled about was the glorious colours of the trees. Autumn was one of her favourite seasons, and for good reason - all the pretty hues of orange, brown, yellow and green simply amazed her. Verchiel, being a nosy boy, had his snout pressed very close to the ground and was snuffing away, ignoring nature's splendor. He didn't care about these things as much as Tanya did, which was fine. After all, he grew up here, such sights were commonplace to him.
Taking a deep breath of the clean, crisp air, Tanya let her eyes slip shut for a moment. The breeze blew her hair back from her face, letting it trail behind her like stopped smoke, the truly red highlights hidden by lack of natural light. As Verchiel sniffed around, the wind shifted, bringing a strong, smokey odor to his sensitive nose and causing his head to whip right up.
Immediately he began to yip and bounce around on the spot. Pawing at his trainer's jeans, the Poochyena whined once before Porter and his creamy Fire type partner emerged onto the scene, strolling in their direction. Tanya opened her gem green eyes and looked down at her anxious Pokémon. "What's up, hun?" she asked calmly, not once noticing Porter's presence until Pepper piped up by cooing her species' name. The girl looked up, surprised, but smiled in recognition of the Hiker who'd helped her get to Azalea Town when she'd first arrived. The only difference was that his cinnamon colored fox was now a lovely cream Ninetails with crimson eyes.
She waited patiently as Porter jogged over and thanked her for what she'd done by driving Team Rocket out of the area. "Oh no, it was no trouble. I'm just glad I was able to help the Slowpoke," Tanya offered feebly, embarrassed to be thanked again. It felt like she'd driven the Rockets out just for her own selfish sense of justice, to protect the dimwitted Water types. Her ears perked at the mention of a problem.
Tanya bit her lip to refrain from being rude and asking what it was. It was his business, not hers. But when he asked for a battle, the girl cast a nervous look at Pepper, who padded over and brushed her silky fur against her leg, where her hand was still resting. An evolved Pokémon was strong, and Verchiel was still pretty much a baby in most ways. Speaking of Verchiel, the little silver wolf was busy sniffing and bristling at sporadic intervals, unsure of what to do with the big fox before him.
"A battle's fine," Tanya said before Porter could rescind his request. She didn't want him backing out just because she wasn't sure about Verch's battling capabilities. The pup yipped and danced around in front of his new opponent, eager to get raring.
She took a few steps back, letting her worry ease away as she slipped into her strategic mindset. Sand Attack would hinder Pepper, probably drive her insane, but Howl would make Verch's Bite hurt hard. There was always just relying on his type boost to make it sting, or hoping that if she went with Howl after, Pepper would miss with her move and leave Verch with an opening. "Okay Verchiel, listen good. Use Sand Attack!" Tanya called out. Her Poochyena barked in reply and scurried a little distance away from Porter's Ninetails, turning around. His back paws began kicking rapidly, aiming to send a stream of sandy grit right into Pepper's eyes and lower her accuracy just a tad.

Porter was happy to hear Tanya’s answer, and ordered Pepper in front of him. He offered Tanya a call of good luck before thinking of what order to give Pepper. Pepper waited patiently as her ever indecisive trainer to think of an order to give her. Finally, Porter made up his mind. “Start off with Quick Attack girl!” Pepper moved nimbly across the field, her tails swaying behind her as her running speed became faster and faster, and she finally barreled into Verchiel with more power than she had expected of herself. Once getting away from the Pooch, she hopped back to her spot in front of Porter. Verchiel retaliated by turning and flinging dirt and other things into Pepper’s face using his hind paws. Pepper shook her head vigorously, trying to get the offending dirt out of her eyes, but from now on she’d be fighting slightly blind, which lowered her accuracy. She stopped trying after a while, and Porter knew she’d want a bath right after this battle was over. ______________________________________________________ Battle!Porter's Pepper |Level 16| Health: 100% (59/59 HP)Status: Ew Dirt;Accuracy (-1) Attack: A successful Quick Attack. The full force of the blow sent him reeling, though it hadn't been enough to discourage his blinding next move of kicking sediment into the Ninetails' face. The Poochyena shook himself vigorously, looking over his shoulder at Tanya with a gentle whine. This seemed to be a little too much for him to handle, and although Tanya desperately wanted to train him, she wasn't fond one bit of the odds stacked against her silver pooch.
Biting her lip, the girl motioned for Verchiel to trot to her side. Curious, the pup obliged and looked up at his trainer as she reached into her coat pocket. She'd left her backpack at her cottage, but she'd been smart enough to transfer a couple of her Poké Balls to the jacket on the off chance she could have a battle. It had been sheer intuition that she'd done it, and at the moment, she was grateful.
Pulling out an ordinary Poké Ball, Tanya stroked the fireball sticker before tossing it out before her. From the burst of light emerged her Charmeleon, Saphira. The crimson lizard stretched and rolled her head, keen blue eyes focusing on Pepper almost instantly. "Sorry for the change of plans, Porter. Verch is still a bit inexperienced. But I'd like you to meet my best partner and first Pokémon, Saphira," the auburn haired girl introduced, gesturing to the Fire type. Saphira smiled warmly at the other trainer and raised a paw at him and Pepper in greeting.
Verch chuffed lightly and reclined onto his haunches, knowing that he'd get his chance with another battle. T's Charmeleon turned around and winked at the Poochyena, assuring him that she could handle this for him with ease. Though the switch-in would cost an extra attack on Saphira's behalf, it was honestly better in the long run. Raising her hand in her signature flick, Tanya pointed at Pepper.
"Right-o, Saphy, show off that pretty Dragon Rage of yours!" she called out confidently. Though she knew it would take more to faint the Ninetails, it was a steady, reliable move that could wreak havoc even with just one strike. Saphira grinned before her jaws opened wide, a purple and yellow ball of fire growing between her sharp teeth.
The ball grew in size until it was almost too big to sit in her maw, at which point the crimson reptile exhaled heavily and shot the attack at Pepper, watching carefully to make sure it hit home.
