Although all wild Pokemon tended to look almost identical to all other members of their respective species, Venom never had any trouble telling them apart from each other. It may have been due to the fact that he grew up in the wild alongside so many wild Pokemon, or the fact that he could understand their language. Either way, the Poison type trainer definitely remembered the wild Electrike when it came into his field of view. And being that their last encounter wasn't too long ago, Venom wasn't too surprised when the wild Electric type recognized him and challenged him to a race. Seeing the state of Electrike's fur, Venom did feel a little bad about before. So, wanting to at least try to make it up to Electrike, Venom happily obliged its request for a race, picking up speed and running alongside the Lightning Pokemon.
"As you wish! Just don't blame me if you get hurt again!" Venom responded to Electrike's taunts, not sounding angry or upset at all, using his ninja training to pick up speed and catch up to the four-legged Pokemon. In fact, the ninja smiled as he ran, enjoying this turn of events quite a bit actually. Thankfully, Goldenrod's underground provided plenty of space for the two to have their race, as they ran past plenty of people and Pokemon for a good ten minutes or so. However, by that point, Venom decided that it was time for the fun and games to end, withdrawing an Ultra Ball from his bag. "This has been fun, Electrike! And I'm very sorry about this, but I'm afraid my Pokemon and I are on a mission! So, allow me to introduce you to Koffing!"
Venom threw the black, white, and yellow orb ahead of him, and out came a purple orb with a skull and cross bones on the front of it. Still racing, Venom and Electrike ran right past Koffing, but given that he could float through the air, it didn't take the Poison Gas Pokemon very long to catch up to them. "Hey there, master! It's been such a long time since I've gotten to come out and do stuff with you! Well, actually it's only been one night, but it still feels like a long time to me! So, what are you doing?! And how can I help out?!" Still as enthusiastic as ever, Koffing smiled big as he spoke to his trainer and floated beside him, very happy to be getting the chance to please him once more.
The purple-haired trainer couldn't help returning that smile, finding Koffing's enthusiasm to be rather infectious, but made sure not to fall behind Electrike as he answered Koffing's questions. "Just racing this wild Electrike! This little guy is full of energy and spirit, not unlike yourself! Still, as fun as this is, we've got training to do! So, think you could manage a few good Sludge Waves while we're moving like this?!" As he gave Koffing his commands, Venom picked up speed, pulling ahead of Electrike and putting some distance between them in preparation for Koffing's attacks. "You bet I can! I love this! Oh yeah! Sorry about this, Electrike, but you've gotta go down! Hope you can swim!" Turning around to face Electrike, Koffing built up massive amounts of toxic sludge in and around his floating body, then sent it all flowing out in waves, heading straight for Electrike in a very familiar way.

The race was on! The speedy, shadow racing electrike wasn't going to lose this time! After all, it was the fastest electrike in Goldenrod! It practiced every day against that shadow electrike that followed it everywhere. Being washed away by a sludge wave earlier in the day had not snuffed its running spirit, and upon spotting that human again, it burned with a passion for speed like none before! A growl and then a howl of determination crawled up and out of its throat. The sound echoed down the tunnel and bounced through every concrete inch of The Underground. People and pokemon alike glanced their way, baffled by the race between wild pokemon and human trainer. On and on they ran, tireless, waiting for the other to slow or stumble. Neither did. Though the human once more changed the game by throwing out a ball and introducing a babbling koffing to the mix. <HEY! THIS IS A RACE!> it snapped, frustrated to once more be interrupted. <Get back in your ball, pet!> The electrike surged forward and chomped on the koffing. However, its bites were a fruitless endeavor when the koffing too packed poisonous tidal waves. The poor like pup was once more washed away and out of sight. <I WILL RETURN TO FINISH THIS RACE!>

"Yeah, it is! And while I may not be much of a racer, most races I've seen have more than a few tricks and traps set up all along the track!" Venom responded to Electrike's protests as he ran, calling to mind a video game series about go-carts and a certain mustached plumber. He was never very good at those games, but he always liked to watch his sister play, regardless. "Sorry there, speedy, but you're not my master! I don't take orders from you! Besides, I'm way too thrilled to be out and about again to even think about going back to my ball! So, let's have a ball instead!" Koffing continued to smile big as he yelled right back at the Lightning Pokemon, his enthusiasm not even going down after being struck by the lightning that came from the fast wild Pokemon.
After that, it was Koffing's turn to attack, and the end of this battle and race was very similar to Team Toxic's previous encounter with this Electrike. Venom and Koffing came to a stop, turning back just in time to watch the Electric type get washed away by toxic sludge for the second time today. "That's cool! I hope I'm still out and about when that time comes!" Koffing was quick to respond to Electrike's vow, treating said vow as more of a future hang out rather than a threat. And just like that, another bout had come and gone, with Venom taking a few deep breaths, and buying himself a bottle of water from a nearby vending machine. The ninja drank half of the water down, before sharing the rest with Koffing, as he held the bottle up to Koffing's mouth so he could drink, since Koffing didn't have any hands himself.
Once the bottle was empty, Venom screwed the cap back on, then tossed it into a nearby recycling bin, hoping that said bin wasn't just there for show. "Well, that Electrike managed to kill eleven more minutes. Shall we head off again?" The Poison type trainer asked his Pokemon, grabbing his Ultra Ball from his bag as he did. But before he could recall Koffing back to the small device, Koffing quickly opened his mouth to make a proposal. "Yes, but can I please stay out here with you, master?! It's so much more fun than being cooped up inside that ball! I need to get in some more training, anyway, don't I?!" Venom gave it some thought, then smiled, shrugged his shoulders, and put Koffing's Ultra Ball away again. "Suit yourself. Let's get going then, Koffing." Venom turned, heading down yet another underground tunnel, with Koffing floating right alongside him, very happy with Venom's decision. "Alright! Thanks, master! Let's keep this party going!"

Venom had a nice run and was refreshing himself with a bottle of water when would hear the warble of a distressed child. Kids became lost on occasion. Even ran away from home on purpose. But regardless of why they were here, alone, to whimper in fear, they were by themselves and quite distressed. The reason became readily obvious when Venom turned a corner to see a child at a vending machine much like the one he'd just bought his drink from. There were coins all around the young child's feet and she looked a scruffy, like that coat and those boots she wore were a size too small, unwashed, and weren't quite warm enough for the rapidly cooling weather. In her hands she held a quarter and her eyes were big and wet with tears as she stepped back from the bright glow of the machine and its face of many delectable snacks. She would suddenly yelp and drop the quarter, scrambling back a few more steps until her back hit the opposite wall. "D-don't hurt me!" she whimpered, wrapping her arms around herself, still staring at the machine. As Venom neared, he would see the machine...shift. And a menacing laugh rattle through the machinery. Glowing eyes formed on the glass face and the child started to sob inconsolably. She just wanted to buy a candy bar and now the bad machine was attacking her! "I'm sorry m-mama," she cried. "I...I...I p-promise t-to be a good girl. Come b-back. Please. Help. M-mama." The ghost would peel from the machine to loom over the crying child, cackling at her distress.

Both Venom and Koffing came to a complete stop when they heard the distressed whimpers of a lone child, then continued around a corner a few seconds later to investigate. Venom wasn't even the least bit surprised by the fact that children regularly got lost in such a big city, but it did kind of surprise him that he hadn't seen one before now. When the poisonous pair eyed the young girl, it was unclear whether she was a runaway or just got separated from her parents. Either way, she was definitely in need of some assistance. And as soon as the sounds of the menacing laughter reached Venom's ears, he knew right then and there what was causing the girl's distress, narrowing his eyes at the vending machine just as it started to move on its own. "Looks like another Gastly's come out to play. And just like always, it doesn't look like its playmate is having nearly as much fun as it is, to put it mildly."
No matter how much the ninja didn't care for human beings, he wasn't nearly heartless enough to just walk away and leave this poor little girl to fend for herself in such a situation. And fortunately for her, Team Toxic had more than a few ways of dealing with Ghost type Pokemon. "What do ya think, master? Want me to fly out there and save her with one good Dark Pulse attack?" Koffing asked Venom with his usual level of enthusiasm, but decided to whisper this time, not wanting to startle the little girl any more than she already was. However, after giving it some thought, Venom grabbed a familiar Great Ball from his bag instead. "I know you could handle this easily, Koffing, but for this particular instance, I think a more tender touch is required."
With that, the Poison type trainer pressed the button to activate the Great Ball, then rolled it out onto the makeshift battlefield, rather than throwing it. The red, white, and blue sphere stopped as soon as it reached the midway point between the girl and the Gastly, then opened wide to reveal the tender and caring member of Team Toxic, Grimer. After emerging from her Great Ball, the first thing Grimer noticed was the crying girl, looking at her with an expression of concern and compassion. "Oh dear. Please don't cry, sweetheart. Whatever is wrong, Grimer will make it all better, I promise." Even though the girl probably couldn't understand Grimer's language, the Sludge Pokemon still did her best to comfort the girl and make her feel better. After that, Grimer turned around, discovered the source of the girl's distress, and immediately changed her facial expression into one of anger and displeasure.
"Oh, so you think it's funny to pick on little girls?! Well, I'll show you something really funny! Let's do this, master!" The Pokemon called out to her trainer for a change, and Venom immediately ran onto the scene, with Koffing continuing to hover by his side. The purple-haired trainer stopped as soon as he reached the girl and knelt down beside her, making sure that she was okay before proceeding with the battle. "Don't be afraid. Team Toxic will handle this and get you back to your mother." Venom did his best to reassure the young girl, then turned to face Grimer and Gastly. "Woohoo! Go, Grimer! You got this, girl!" Koffing smiled big as he cheered her on, followed by Venom's orders. "You know what to do, Grimer! Use Bite back-to-back!" Grimer didn't need to be told twice, slithering as fast as she could over to the wild Gastly, then raising her slimy body up high, opening her huge mouth, and moving closer to sink her fangs into Gastly's gaseous body.

The girl could not understand the comforting words of the grimer and just screamed again as the blob reached out to her, not understanding where it came from or what it was saying. But she did see the grimer turn and lunge for the gastly, who sneered and snarled at the grimer with disdain. <I was busy here! Why are you meddling in matters that don't involve you.> it said, its annoyance a physical force that smacked into the grimer lightly. Surely it was used to that being enough to scare away combatants, but not today. No, the grimer lunged forward and chomped down, making the gastly screech in surprise. NO NO NO!!! It faded from sight, effectively banished in one swift blow. Now safe and sound, the machine no longer attacking her, the girl trembled and fell to her knees to cry. Through hiccuping breaths, Venom might be able to discern that the girl wasn't lost, but a runaway. That 'mama was said mean things when she drank her special juice' and 'daddy hit mommy sometimes'. But she would be a good girl now. It...it was honestly a mess. There was a reason she ran away. Maybe it would be better to take her to an officer to let them sort out what was best. Or maybe he could buy her a drink and a snack and let this kid figure out the rest. That was all up to Venom now. But for the moment, she was safe-ish, no longer being threatening by a ghost.

Grimer was a bit disheartened by the little girl's reaction to her kindness, but the Sludge Pokemon's moral fiber was far stronger than a few hurtful words. This was fully demonstrated when Grimer glared right back into Gastly's eyes, standing her ground, even if she didn't actually have any legs to stand on. "Busy terrorizing a lone little girl?! I won't allow such behavior! Even if she can't understand me, I'll gladly defend her from bullies like you!" Grimer stated in a compassionate and unyielding tone of voice, chasing off the wild Gastly, gaining some more experience, and hopefully bringing a smile back to the young girl's face. However, as the excitement of the battle died down, Team Toxic was met with a rather unsettling turn of events, as Venom, Grimer, and Koffing all turned to face the little girl once again.
Through her tears and childish language, Venom was able to more or less piece together the story behind this girl's choice to flee from her home. "Oh dear...I've heard city life can bring out the worst in people, but to expose a child to such conditions?" The ninja said out loud in a concerned tone of voice, taking a few minutes to consider all of his options and decide what to do with the young runaway. First and foremost, Venom bought her a bottle of water from the formerly haunted vending machine, then opened it and handed it to her as he knelt down beside her, using his scarf to gently dry her tears. "Here. Drink this." After the girl accepted the beverage from Venom and began to drink it down, he continued to speak to her in a tone filled with as much sympathy as he could muster.
"Listen, I'm sure you know better than to talk to strangers, but I'm not gonna take you back to a home like that. In fact, that's no home at all. So, instead, my Pokemon and I are gonna take you to the police station. They should be able to take care of you and hopefully find you a better, more peaceful place to call home. Okay?" As he waited for her answer, Koffing and Grimer both smiled at her, doing their best to look friendly and comforting as well. Then, after getting an "Okay" from the girl, and waiting for her to finish her water bottle, Venom called the two Poison type Pokemon back to their respective Pokeballs, then carefully picked the little girl up in his arms. "Hold on tight." He informed her, then ran through the underground tunnel and searched for some stairs leading back to the surface, making sure not to run too fast though, not wanting to frighten the girl any more than she already had been today.
It took about five minutes, but the purple-haired trainer finally located some stairs, then ran up them and arrived back on the mean streets of Goldenrod City. From there, he made his way to the local police station with the little girl in tow. Upon arrival, Venom gently placed the little girl back on her feet but kept a hold on her hand as they walked inside. From there, Venom explained the situation to the police officers inside the station before handing the girl over to them. "Thank you, officers. Please see to it that this girl is placed in a kind and loving home." Venom said with a bow of gratitude, then turned to face the young girl and gave her a friendly smile of his own. "Take care. I hope you find happiness. Just the way that I did with my new family." His mission now complete, Venom departed from the police station, hoping that the officers will be able to find the girl a far better life than the one she had with her "parents".
