Just as the thunderstorm was finally starting to calm down over Goldenrod City, Venom dashed through the rain, dodged incoming pedestrians, and returned to the place where he met and befriended his Grimer and Koffing. The Underground Tunnel. Why? It was simple, really. No matter how much faith the ninja had in his beloved Pokemon, the fact remained that they simply weren't strong enough to take Whitney, the Goldenrod City gym leader, on just yet. So, to help his Pokemon grow even stronger, Venom returned to the one place in the big city with the highest leveled trainers and wild Pokemon. Although, he took a different entrance this time, finding himself in a section of the Underground Tunnel he hadn't seen before. Regardless, Venom didn't wish to waste any more time than absolutely necessary and began the search for some strong opponents as soon as he reached the bottom of the stairs. However, given the heavy rainfall that had been plaguing Goldenrod City for the past while, the Poison type trainer found himself standing ankle deep in water. The entire tunnel had been flooded, causing the vast amount of trash and other pieces of debris to float around this underground stink hole. Fortunately, Venom was no stranger to soggy, disgusting places. Although, if he was being honest, the swamps he grew up in were somehow cleaner than the tunnel he had just set foot into. After letting out a small sigh of exasperation, Venom gathered his resolve, remained focused on the mission, and ventured deeper into the waterlogged tunnel. He knew that it would probably take a while to get his Pokemon in shape to battle Whitney but given his strong distaste for this city and most of the people that inhabited it, Venom would do his best to get it over and done with as quickly as possible. OOC: Before Team Toxic's training gets underway, I'd like to make a few changes to Venom's party, if you please. First, if it hasn't already been done by March, I'd like to put the Toxel in Venom's PC into his party, moving Skorupi over to his PC in her place. Also, could whoever does that also change Toxel's sprite into the 2D version please? I actually don't care for the 3D versions. Secondly, I'd like to transfer the EXP Share in Shinya's inventory over to Venom's and give said EXP Share to Toxel to hold onto. Also, friendly reminder, Venom's Koffing is currently holding the Cleanse Tag, which means that all wild Pokemon Venom encounters will be at the highest level possible. Thanks for everything!

As Venom made his way through the rather dirty tunnel there was a heavy presence in the air. At first it was hard to say what the source of the atmosphere was as such a poorly maintained area could contain a number of toxic fumes or other undesirable elements. The deeper into the tunnel he went however it soon became clear that the heaviness was not just sitting in one area but was following him. The sounds of a horrifying scream quickly echoed throughout the tunnel before a pair of eyes appeared before him as the source of the heaviness felt it was time to show itself once it was sure Venom was too deep in the tunnel to make a run for it. " Gassssssssttttttttlllllllllyyyyyyyyy" the specter cried out as the Gastly fully formed looking for a fight with the young ninja. The poisonous fumes surrounding Gastly seeped into the knee deep water as it slowly approached the ninja looking for an opening to strike. The Gastly could sense Venom had a number of poison type Pokemon with him and was quite eager to test itself one way or another. Gastly then started to bounce up and down while it continued to look for an opening hoping that the strange motion would catch Venom off guard even if just for a second or two. Gastly (Level 24) wants to test it's strength against Venom's team. Please select a Pokemon. Shiny? KXc5eEFj1-421-42

As Venom waded through the filthy water that had flooded the underground tunnel, he couldn't help feeling a sense of deja vu, and not just because he had been in this tunnel once before. Oddly enough, the last time he came to the Goldenrod Tunnel, the very first wild Pokemon he encountered was a Gastly. And judging by the presence he was now sensing, as well as the toxic fumes filling his lungs, it looked as though he was in for yet another supernatural encounter. Of course, given Venom's natural immunity to poisons, the toxic fumes were basically the same as ordinary oxygen to him. "I know you're there, Gastly. You'd be better off trying to get the drop on someone who isn't as used to Poison type Pokemon as I am. Still, I commend your efforts, if nothing else." With absolutely no fear in his voice, Venom casually addressed the Gas Pokemon, then waited patiently for it to reveal itself to him.
Once it did, the ninja looked it straight in the eye, not even blinking, let alone flinching, as he reached for a Great Ball from his bag. "Well, if nothing else, you'll make a good opponent to get our training session underway with. Come on out, Grimer!" At Venom's command, the orb in his hand burst open, releasing his Sludge Pokemon back into her old stomping ground. And even though it was flooded with rainwater, Grimer still gained a big smile upon her face once she realized where she was. "Oh wow! The Goldenrod Tunnel! I know it's only been a few days, but it's great to be back! Not that I don't love my new home on Team Toxic, but you know what I mean! Right, master?!" Grimer giggled nervously, realizing near the end of her speech that what she said may have been viewed as rude by her trainer and fellow poisonous Pokemon of Team Toxic.
Lucky for her, Venom wasn't so easily offended, smiling back at her and shaking his head slowly. "There's no need to be nervous, Grimer. I know exactly what you mean, and it's perfectly fine. However, I'm afraid we aren't here for merriment or reminiscing. There is much work to be done in preparation for our gym battle against Whitney, and the next step is you defeating that Gastly with your Bite attack. So, go for it!" The Kantonian trainer pointed at the floating Ghost/Poison type as he spoke, giving Grimer both a direction and her orders. Turning to face the wild Ghastly, Grimer was more than happy to carry out those orders, stretching her slimy body upwards to reach Ghastly and baring her fangs at her first foe of the training session. "Okay! Don't worry, Ghastly! This won't hurt a bit!" She lied, knowing that this super effective attack was likely going to hurt a whole lot.

Prepping for extra training for the infamous gym in Goldenrod City, the ninja readily ordered his exotic Grimer to strike the floating ball Pokemon with a taste of the darkness. "Leeeavveeee! Yooouuu Smeeelll Wrrroooonng!" The ghost hummed spitefully, communicating to the Grimer how despite they're both Pokemon giving nasty stench from their body, the Gastly would be the "correct" form of horrible smell. The Grimer could feel the intense stare and glaring energy from the ghost type, but it was ineffective to the Grimer who hadn't done anything, yet. The poison and dark type wasn't phased by this, and went forward to bite the opposing ghost with her bare teeth. The teeth sunk into the opponent, and the floating ball bemoaned in pain. "Nooooooo!" It admitted defeat and phased through a wall to hide and recover.

Despite winning the battle and gaining a large amount of EXP, both Venom and Grimer let out a simultaneous sigh of exasperation after Gastly floated off in defeat. "Why does everyone we meet keep saying that? I know I eat garbage, but I don't smell that bad. Do I, master?" Grimer asked her trainer for his opinion on the matter, turning to face him with a mildly hurt look on her face as she did. While it was true that original Grimer had a rather foul odor to it, which didn't bother the Poison type trainer in the slightest, Alolan Grimer had no such odor. If people and Pokemon actually took the time to do some research, or just gave any Alolan Grimer even a small sniff, they'd find that they were completely odorless. This is due to the fact that, unlike original Grimer, Alolan Grimer produced and stored toxins within its body, which is also how the crystals that look like teeth are formed. "No, of course not, Grimer. The people and Pokemon outside the Alola region just aren't used to your kind, that's all. I suppose we can't blame them for their ignorance, but I do wish they'd stop insulting you like that. Add that to the list of reasons why our mission is so important. In any case, that was a splendid battle, my friend. Well done." Venom explained all of this to the Sludge Pokemon and paid her a compliment, all with a proud smile upon his face, before calling her back to her Great Ball for some down time. The water level in the underground tunnel was still quite high, but the ninja could hear that the rain and thunder had finally come to an end outside. This was good news for all forms of life in and around Goldenrod City, but rain or shine, Team Toxic's special training was only just beginning, as Venom continued to march through the flooded tunnel and search for more opponents to battle. OOC: I appreciate the update, Tiki, but don't forget, Venom's Toxel is holding the EXP Share. So, in addition to Grimer's EXP growth, Toxel should've also gained one level from this battle. Thanks.

Gotta go fast. Faster and faster. It couldn't lose to this swift foe that dared challenge it to a race. It was the fastest of fast. The speediest of pups. It was electric. Literal lightning before the thunder. It totally was breaking the sound barrier here with its awesome running skills. Zoom zoom, those human cars have nothing on it! YET SOMEHOW! This schmuck was keeping pace. This...dark, mysterious figure. Every move electrike made, this shady hound did too. It somehow kept pace as it ran. No matter how fast. Well that wouldn't do. The fastest electric pup in the underground wasn't going to be bested by no dark type! Because clearly, that's what this was. Some spooky ghost or dark type that couldn't take a hint that it was a loser and that it should just quit now! It ran even faster, fur sparking with intensity. With his highly trained senses, it didn't take Venom very long at all to pick up on the sounds of something dashing back and forth through the flooded tunnel at high speed. Water splashed with every single step the speedy creature took, and as curiosity got the better of him once again, Venom headed towards those sounds right away. Upon reaching the source of the ceaseless splashing, the Poison type trainer couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the rather cliche, but still amusing sight before him. "My, my. Seems this little one just discovered their own shadow. Although, they do seem pretty strong for such a youngling." Venom noted to himself, impressed by such a high level of speed and endurance from such a young Pokemon. And as much as he hated to interrupt any Pokemon's playtime, Venom and his Pokemon had work to do, and it seemed as though this Electrike would make a very fine opponent indeed.
"Sorry about this, Electrike, but it's time to crush your rush! Salandit, this one's all you!" The ninja called out to the wild Electric type, then withdrew Salandit's Pokeball from his bag and sent the Toxic Lizard Pokemon out to face it. However, given the fact that she was a Fire type Pokemon, and the tunnel was flooded, Venom made sure to send her out onto a wooden board that was floating in the water nearby. The second she materialized from her red and white sphere, Salandit gasped in shock, just barely able to maintain her balance on the floating piece of lumber, breathing a big sigh of relief once she finally did. "Woah! Woah! Woah!...Phew! Jeez, master! I know I battled in the rain earlier, but I thought we were done with water for a while! You couldn't have chosen a warmer, dryer place for me to train?!" Salandit voiced her complaints to her trainer, glaring at him the whole time that she did.
The purple-haired trainer offered his beloved Pokemon companion a bow of apology before responding to her complaints, maintaining his composure and raising his head to look in her eyes as he spoke. "I apologize for asking you to do battle in such an unfavorable location, Salandit, but as I've said before, I would never ask you to do something if I didn't have faith that you could do it. But you must be careful. This tunnel is filled with metal and water, and our foe is an Electric type. One wrong move, and we'll both be in some very real trouble. So, what do you say, my friend?" Even though not all the information he gave her was in their favor, Venom had absolutely no intention of lying to any of his Pokemon, waiting patiently for her answer after giving her his explanation. All the while, the Kantonian trainer made sure to keep at least one eye on Electrike at all times, ready to act at a moment's notice if the Lightning Pokemon created even the tiniest spark.
After hearing what her master had to say, the Poison/Fire type's facial expression softened, and she took a deep breath to recompose herself before putting her game face on, with a tone of voice to match. "As if I would ever refuse a request from you, master. I was just holding out for an extra pokepuff after dinner tonight. No need to be so serious. Let's do this, master!" Venom regained his smile, and let out a few more chuckles, after hearing Salandit's words, more than happy to fulfill her request. "You can have all the pokepuffs you want after we beat Whitney, Salandit. For now, let's give Sludge Wave a try!" Hearing her orders, as well as Venom's promises of delicious treats, Salandit licked her jaws, turned to face the wild Electrike, then spun her body around several times, whipping up a massive wave of toxic sludge. "Surf's up, sparky!" This wave mixed with the water of the flooded tunnel, creating a rather large wave, which picked up the board Salandit clung to, as it headed straight for Electrike.

Initially uncomfortable at the sight of the unfavorable environment to battle in, the Salandit reluctantly accepted her master's training plan with the promise of a delicious payout. The lizard hissed at the opponent to get its attention, and then hastily twirled in circle to create a nasty wave of toxic sludge toward the Electrike and the surrounding area. The canine barked and tried to jump high, but was limited by the environment it was in. Soon, the wave crashed onto it and slammed it on a wall. The poor dog whimpered in pain, and then run away to hide. The area quieted again, and the Salandit turned toward Venom proudly of her easy victory. With a little more training completed, the ninja's Pokemon should be able to take on the infamous gym leader Whitney.

Having washed away the Lightning Pokemon on a battlefield that gave it the clear advantage, and doing so with great ease, Salandit stood tall on her wooden board, with a smirk on her face and her claws on her hips. "Yeah, that's right! Run away! And be sure to tell all your friends who did this to ya!" The Toxic Lizard Pokemon yelled at Electrike as it ran for its life, then proceeded to snicker to herself, amused by her own words and antics. And although Venom will never find pleasure in harming wild Pokemon, he was also amused by the fact that his team was getting stronger. Strong enough to eventually take on Whitney and emerge victorious. What's more, it wasn't just the usual members of Team Toxic that were gaining experience on this underground training mission.
There was also the newest and youngest member of Team Toxic, fresh out of the egg and the great region of Galar. The Baby Pokemon, Toxel. Until she got strong enough, Venom kept her inside her Pokeball for safety, but he was very excited to finally get to battle with her one day, and he knew that she was just as excited to start battling herself, despite her tender young age. But until that time came, the ninja had to focus on training up his other Pokemon, walking over to Salandit and lowering his arm down to her so she could climb up onto his shoulder. "C'mon, Salandit. There's plenty more trainers and wild Pokemon where that Electrike came from." With smiles on both their faces, Salandit climbed onto Venom's left shoulder, then Venom ventured further into the Goldenrod Tunnel, carrying his Pokemon companion over the ankle-deep water and searching for another foe for them to do battle against.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'. Just a voltorb rollin'.
Rollin' down the hallway.
Rollin' because its the only way.
Because its a voltorb with no legs.
Down the hall it rolled, rolled, rolled until it bumped into something. Was that a wall? Another pokemon? It rolled backwards until it could more clearly see what it ran into. Oh. That wasn't a wall or a pokemon, but a human. It hummed and sparked a bit. Voltorb were notorious for exploding... But this one was just staring intently at Venom, eyes all slanted with frustration and irritation. Get outta the way, punk! It was rolling here and you're in the way. What kinda guy just stands there in the hall and slows a voltorb's roll? It's just not right! A (LV 24) voltorb is rolling along. What will Venom do? Continuing to make their way through the still flooded tunnels, Venom strode confidently, determined to see his training mission through to the end. All the while, Salandit clung to his left shoulder, not wanting to touch the water, but never letting her smirk fade from her face for even a second. This poisonous pair were on a single-minded hunt for opponents to face in battle, eagerly awaiting the appearance or discovery of their next one. What they didn't expect was for their next opponent to literally roll right into them, as Venom turned around and looked down after the wild Voltorb made contact with his leg. "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to block your way." The ninja spoke to the Ball Pokemon in an apologetic tone of voice, stepping aside to allow said Pokemon to pass.
However, when the Voltorb glared back at Venom and said some very rude things to him in response to his kindness, Salandit decided to step in, losing her smirk and glaring back at the Electric type. "Hey! We're just walking here! Why don't you watch where you're going?! But then again, maybe you can't! I mean, we have arms and legs, but you don't even have a neck!" Salandit laughed out loud after that, right in Voltorb's face, not at all worried about the possibility of an explosion. And although he didn't approve of her behavior, neither was Venom. Just one look at this Voltorb, and the purple-haired trainer could tell that it wasn't quite high enough leveled to know the move Self-Destruct just yet.
That being said, after Salandit's rather rude retort, Venom doubted that this Voltorb would just roll along and forget that this encounter ever happened. So, after letting out a small sigh of defeat, the Poison type trainer took action and gave Salandit her orders for this bout. "I'm pretty sure all this water just made it difficult for this Voltorb to see where it was going, but I suppose we are in need of more foes to battle! So, use Sludge Wave, Salandit! And if that's not enough, then follow it up with Dragon Rage!" As soon as she was given her orders, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon immediately started searching for a piece of solid land to stand on or another piece of floating debris. After just a few short seconds, she spotted an abandoned desk chair just a few feet away, then quickly jumped over to it and began her attack, sending powerful waves of toxic sludge at the round Electric Pokemon.

The Voltorb simply wanted to roll and roll and roll and roll, what else was a Voltorb to do? It did not have legs nor arms or a neck as this pokemon seemed to so rudely remind it. It was hard to see where things were when its eyes could not be up when it was rolling. Even as the human moved out of the way, it seemed the pokemon still wished to pick a fight. If it wished to fight then the Voltorb would oblige. It would show them how it could be strong even without having a neck! Even as it took damage from the sludge wave that was sent its way a spark began to give off of the round pokemon before it struck the little lizard with its lighting though it did very little in comparison. Voltorb had to show how strong it was, except it ended up being struck again enough that it was sent rolling off down the tunnel. Well, at least it was sent rolling as that is what voltorbs are meant to do. It would get revenge next time someone stopped its rolling, it swore!

As Voltorb rolled away in defeat, Salandit once again found herself giggling triumphantly, very pleased with her latest victory and her level growth. "Salalalalalalalalalalala! You can roll all you want, but I'll just be stronger next time, and you still won't have a neck! Salalalalalalalalala!" Salandit's antics caused her trainer to let out a small sigh and roll his eyes, but he still smiled at her, walked over to her, and gently rubbed the top of her scaly head. "Yes, yes. You've done very well, as always, Salandit. I think that Voltorb has head enough for now though, okay?" Venom asked the Toxic Lizard Pokemon, attempting to get her to lighten up on the Ball Pokemon, even if only a bit. Thankfully, it worked, as Salandit's attention turned back over to Venom himself, facing him with a happy smile upon her face.
"So, what do ya think, master? Am I finally ready to take on Whitney?" Salandit asked the ninja in a very confident and almost cocky tone of voice, taking on a pose that perfectly reflected that tone as she spoke. Before answering her, Venom gave it some thought, taking into account everything he knew about Whitney and her Normal type Pokemon. Fortunately, the online battle data, available to any and all trainers, gave him all the data he needed and then some. "Yes, I believe you are, Salandit. Everyone else still needs training though. This may take a while. For now, take a break and enjoy your down time. You've earned it." With a smile of his own, Venom called Salandit back to her Pokeball and placed it back into his bag. And with plenty more training to be done, the Poison type trainer once again walked through the flooded tunnel, wondering who or what Team Toxic's next foe would be.
OOC: Before the next encounter, I'd like to place Salandit back into Venom's PC and put Skorupi into his party in her place. Thanks.

The dynamic duo seemed to be doing quite the job for themselves, training and leveling up in preparation for the next gym that they would challenge. The voltorb didn't respond to the idle threats of the salamander, or maybe it was just too busy spinning far away after it had been so cruelly defeated. The bonding moment between trainer and pokemon was not bothered at all in the tunnels that were far away from any other human. Who in their right mind came down here anyway? Oh right - people that wanted to train and fight to level themselves. It did seem however that the two weren't alone even as Venom returned their salamander and got a different pokemon to train it seemed that something was watching. Hidden as much as something could be down here between the debris of things left behind. While normal rats were common this one was slightly different black in color instead of the normal purple. It seemed interesting what the human and pokemon were doing something about ready for a Whitney? What even was a Whitney? Perhaps the rat was a little too curious for its own good. Traversing the flooded tunnel and searching for any and all opponents to battle and train against was rather tedious work, but to their credit, Team Toxic had gotten a lot of work done in a short period of time. Of course, it wasn't always necessary for Venom to seek out opponents himself. Sometimes they found him, like the Alolan Rattata that was trying and failing to stalk him without being noticed. Unfortunately for the Mouse Pokemon, Venom's highly trained ninja senses made it next to impossible for anyone to hide from him, as he narrowed his eyes and glanced over his left shoulder. He knew full well that the Rattata was there but didn't bother turning around to face it. Instead, he grabbed another Pokeball from his bag, pressed the button on it, then tossed it over his left shoulder.
The spherical device splashed into the water of the flooded tunnel, and the Pokemon inside rose to the surface, and unlike Salandit, this new poisonous Pokemon wasn't even the slightest bit bothered by the water. In fact, he felt right at home in the shallow and somewhat filthy liquid. "Huh? What's this? You sent me out here to battle this little runt, master? How boring. Isn't there anything tougher around here? You'd think there would be in a place like this." Croagunk said out loud in an uninterested tone, his cheeks expanding and contracting with every single word he spoke, as he looked down at the Dark/Normal type in front of him at the same time. After exchanging blows with a Gurdurr not too long ago, the Poison/Fighting type was in the mood for some more exciting battles against stronger foes.
However, given their current situation, beggars couldn't afford to be choosers. A point which Venom was quick to make to his Pokemon friend. "I understand your feelings, Croagunk, but this is the best we can do right now. Just be happy that the Pokemon and trainers of this tunnel will get us in shape for our battle against Whitney sooner rather than later. Now, use Drain Punch. Just one should be more than enough this time." Still not even bothering to turn around and face the impending battle, Venom gave Croagunk his orders, and Croagunk breathed a heavy sigh after hearing them. "...Whatever. This gym leader better be worth it though." The Toxic Mouth Pokemon cracked his knuckles a few times, getting as motivated as he could before filling his right fist with energy, and running straight for Rattata to unleash it all.
