Important: While travelling through Ilex Forest, your Pokémon will not be automatically healed after each battle so stock up on Potions! If all Pokémon faint in your party, forest spirits will teleport you back to the Azalea Poké Center.

Ilex Forest is a massive sea of trees that even experienced travelers can find themselves lost in if not careful. It is the most direct route from Azalea to Goldenrod on foot, and is considered by many a time-honored trial for all trainers to muddle their way through the untamed wood as part of their journey through Johto.

The outer sections near Azalea are kept the most tame by foresters, but once past the Dense Thicket and into the heart of Ilex the canopy thickens to the point of keeping the forest floor in perpetual darkness. There are many reports of people feeling eyes on their backs when trekking the darker parts of the forest. Tales of voices whispering through the trees and flickers of spirits darting by their peripheral vision. People have easily become lost in the winding paths, hitting a point where there's no turning back and finding themselves surrounded by thick fog. It is rumored that those who don't make it through Ilex before nightfall join the ranks of the wandering souls whispering in the dark; waiting and watching for the next unprepared traveler to lose their way.

Ilex Forest: Roleplayer's Guide

The entirety of Ilex Forest is a Universal Group Thread designed to simulate the experience of actually wandering the forest. This means that if you are writing your character through the woods at the same time another member is posting in Ilex, should your two characters end up in the same area they are now in a Group thread with one another. It is encouraged to interact with other characters in the area, and perhaps even join up and traverse the maze of paths together.

This also means that you do not create any new threads here; only reply to existing ones.



The purpose of this setup is to build a labyrinth of threads so that each one depicts a different snapshot of the forest at different times. Navigational images exist in the 1st Post of each thread, a picture related to the section of Ilex your character is currently. And within that picture are one or more areas that are clickable and will lead you to another part of Ilex. Navigating through these mapped images is the intended way to travel through the forest maze.

*We know that our current images are not necessarily easy to figure out where these clickable areas are. To help remedy this frustration we have provided a clickable map below, but will be working in the future to find better images for each Ilex area for smoother navigation. Any help would be welcomed.


Each area your character passes through you must make at least 1 post detailing a little bit of the character's time there. There must be some continuous record of a character's path through the forest, but you don't need to wait for an encounter and can just simply have a nap, picnic, or stop to smell some flowers before moving onto the next area. However, if you do want an encounter or to look for items or whatever else may be listed in the area, you simply need to make it clear to mods so they know they need to reply to you.

Similarly, if during your travels through areas you make changes to your party, use items, and/or have an egg in party that needs words added to it, you will need to notify mods either using the Pkmn/Item Updates thread or keep a tally of everything and post it as an OOC note the next time you're waiting for an encounter in Ilex.
